The Headband is something like a Magic Lock. As I know, in the Novel, Buddha locked WuKong under a Mountain, and his Master (The Monk who started the jounery to go to the west) release him from the mountain. The Monk thinks he may not be able to tame the Monkey King, so the Buddha helped and kind of "Tricked" WuKong to wear the Headband, and later on it turned out to be some kind Magic Lock / Curse that the Monk can use to tame the Monkey King, whenever he is out of control.
At the start when Wukong said: "My master, safe. Scriptures, sound." He was referring to the story in the original Journey to the West, where he accompanied and protected his master the Tang monk to the West to retrieve the scriptures. The warrior god Erlang that you fought in the intro was also the same one he fought after he wreaked havoc in the Celestial court. The Xiaotian dog (Howling Celestial dog) is Erlang's spiritual beast and companion. The giant they were standing on is Juling god (Giant Spiritual god) and is a giant god with massive strength. The four gods that attacked Wukong after the fight are the Four Heavenly Kings. All these gods fought Wukong in the original novel. (And you can imagine how blown away I was when I first saw this intro.) Why was there a battle between Wukong and the Celestial court? It was because they tried to deceive him by giving him a position in the court (thus making him a god as well), but a lowly position to breed horses for the Jade Emperor. So when Wukong found out he was extremely mad and ate all the celestial peaches and wrecked havoc in the Celestial court, and so the court sent the army of gods to try to bring him in, but he beat all of them. Eventually Buddha came and trapped him under a mountain for 500 years, after which the Bodhisattva Guanyin asked him whether he was willing to redeem himself by becoming a disciple of Tang monk and accompanying him to the west to retrieve the scriptures. He agreed and a headband was bestowed upon him so that the Tang monk could keep him under control (the master could make a headband constricting chant to cause a massive headache on Wukong.) And so the journey to the west began. At the end of the novel when they had achieved all goals, the headband was removed and Wukong was given the title of "Victorious Fighting Buddha." And as you'd seen in the intro, according to this game he was deceived again and the headband wasn't really removed and reappeared on his head. They used the headband to break him and Erlang dealt a massive blow, and so he died. The rest you already know the story 😆
A few more fun facts: The magical stave he was using in the original novel was actually a divine needle that was used to stabilize the sea. Wukong got it from the dragon king of the east sea, and it could change to whatever size he wanted. Wukong cannot die in the original novel. It is because he went to the underworld and struck his name off the "Book of Life and Death" from the lord of the underworld, which governs the birth and death of mortals and immortals (yep immortals can die too but they have a very very long lifespan.) In this game they made him "sort of dead" so that a new story could begin. The Tang monk was a real person during the Tang dynasty. He went from Xi'An, China to India by foot and back to retrieve the Buddhist scriptures. Of course Wukong is just a mythological creation.
some little background story about the game intro characters. Start with sun wu kong. A monkey born from a rock. Sun wu kong lived with other monkey in the mountian for a while and realise he need immotality to continue his happy free life. So he went a way to find a master to teach him that. Eventually he found the master and learnt his immotality and other skills. After that he returned and rob the dragon lord of east china sea and get the stick/staff. The weapon Sun wu kong use is used to be called the sea stablizer. It weighted 6750 kg and can transform to any size and any lenght. Sun Wu Kong normmally shrink the stick and hide it in his ear. The robbery caused a big chaos in the sea and pissed off the gods and finally turn them into war. The monkey was so powerful and no god can fight with him except the guy with 3 eyes. Finally the Sun Wu Kong was defeated by Buddha and burried under the mountain for 500 years as punishment until Tang San Zang which is his master(ShiFu) released him and start the journey to the west. After the journey to the west, Sun Wu Kong was granted The victorious fighting buddha. The guy with 3 eyes : One of the most powerful fighter among gods. He used to use an Axe to destory a mountian to save his mother who is prisoned under it. During the war between Sun Wu Kong and the gods, he is the only one beat the monkey in combat. His pet ( the black dog) also refferd as The moon eater. 4 giants: The four gate keepers of the gods realm. They were defeated by Sun Wu Kong once before during the war. The biggest giant: The god which is known by his size. Looks strong but pretty weak in the book of Journey to the west. The ring on Sun Wu Kong 's head : It is given by Guan Yin to Tang San Zang to decipline sun wu kong at the beginning of the journey to the west. When Tang San Zang cast a spell the ring will shrink. After the journey to the west the ring was released and taken back by Buddha. The pig: One of the other 3 companies in the journey to the west. Used to be a god but got kicked out because he break the law. When he become mortal his soul accidently pocessd into a pig which cause him has a pig head and human body. In the book of Journey to the west he was often known as lazy, greedy, easy to give up, big mouth. But he is a good bro and loyal friend to the monkey. All those stories may not be 100% accurate but most of them are commonly know in China. Hope this can help you guys understand the story.
He didn't rob the dragon as the dragon told him as long as he can lift the stick, it would be a free gift. Also, technically it should be 8057kg, because the weight unit 'Jin' in ancient time is different from the current one. The stick weighs 13500 Jin and 1 Jin equals 0.596816 Kg. Now 1 Jin equals 0.5kg.
You forget one of pig characteristic. He's always horny and literally salivating everytime he see hot chick. In fact his horniness was what get him kicked out of heaven 🤣
mrssushicut, 44 gold medals at paris games 2024 if you count HK and tawian - usa only 40. only nation with space station, one in EV auto exports, # 1 solar power, AI, IC chips, green energy, bio tech, etc.
3:16 Not sure if you know the lore bout what happened before this (before Journey to the west as well) Sun Wukong already pulled up to heaven once before and waged war. He beat every single God until he was locked into a stalemate with the last one when The Buddha himself showed up and basically put Wukong in time out. Then we get the events of Journey to the west - it’s basically his redemption arc to redeem himself. At the end of Journey to the West he was granted as “an equal to heaven” and given the title “The Victorious fighting Buddha” and given a seat in heaven which is what he waged war for originally in the first place. The fact that we’re actually getting a SEQUEL to Journey to the west is crazy, we’re so blessed 🔥
@@birdyrage Also, your own summary at the beginning of the video precedes the OP's summary. In chronological order : 1) your summary 2) OP's summary 3) this Game
Actually he was defeated by Erlang Shen first (although with the help of his dog and some other deities. Erlang Shen is the only God in the Celestial Court that have an equal prowess with Wukong, or maybe slightly more powerful then him (some says Erlang Shen reached 73 Transformations whilt Wukong is 72)) Wukong was captured, and Erlang Shen goes back to his home (since he actually doesn't really care about the politic in the Celestial Court). The Celestial Court try many ways to execute Wukong, but all fail until Taishang Laojun try to melt him with his alchemy furnace (making Wukong as an ingredient for his immortality pills), but Wukong not only manage to survive, he eat up all the pills inside the Furnace and the heat in the furnace actually let him gain new ability know as Fiery Eyes and Golden Pupils (allowing him to see through any magical disguise). Wukong become more powerful and brings havoc in the Celestial Court until Buddha came and seal him under the Five Finger Mountain. *Erlang Shen = the Three Eyes dude who's fighting him in the intro. The Guy is arrogant, yes, but not bad as depicted in this game and some other media.
Not just put out, he is buried by the five finger mountain (五指山) for five hundred years then get rescued by 唐三藏 (Tang sanzang, a legendary monk, a real person in history who went to India to learn Buddhism) then they go on to the journey to the west(today India) , sun wukong is Tang sanzang’s first disciple, then there’s second and third disciples, these three protect their master Tang from the 81 obstacles/monsters/ evils before reaching their destination.
The 72 changes are not about becoming 72 different things, but rather 72 powerful magic and skills, including shape-shifting. Spatial transfer, time manipulation, stealth and camouflage, element control, mind control, prediction and divination, etc
I absolutely love the line 'Immortality? For that word, all realms and beings have ruined themselves.'' The intro is absolutely gorgeous but the dialogue is absolutely fantastic as well.
That 'travel by cloud' thing is called 'somersault cloud-riding' , or I can simply say somersault clouding (筋斗云). His teacher (Patriarch Subodhi) one day checked Wokong's homework and he proudly said he can already ride on the cloud. The teacher watched his show and smiled to him, 'This is not riding on the cloud, this is at most creeping on the cloud. You are too slow. The true deity can travel the world within one day by cloud-riding'. Then Wukong begged the teacher to teach him the method to ride on the cloud. The teacher said, 'Other deity takes off just by stomping, but you just jumped off the ground and made a few somersalt before your cloud-creeping, therefore I create a style from this interesting posture for you, the somersault style', then taught him. It turned out that this was the fastest cloud-riding style known in the novel, since one somersault travels One hundred and eight thousand Li(里),or 54000 kilometers (enough to circle the earth lol). Actually in the novel, I found the speed is adjustable, it's just that he CAN travel that far in a somersault if he wish. That's why in this video, the game maker precisely catched the spirit of that somersault at 4:37. I was smiling watching that.
He was a mischievous, smart but a simpleton monkey who created a lot of laughters, angers and adventures whom stolen the elixir of life from heaven. The starting scenes have those heavenly guardians and heavenly soldiers of different ranks and grades.
It's been known in American for over 50 years and probably longer The monkey king story has been around much longer than you think in many countries around the world.
Sun Wukong (the "Monkey King") is actually from the ancient Chinese novel "Journey to the West" published in the 16th century during the Ming dynasty (China) ... other information >> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_West
There was a little gap between Wukong getting expelled and the Journey To The West, about a 580-year gap, during that time he basically committed a series of Big crimes that ashamed the gods greatly, yet they couldn't do anything about him cuz he was so OP. But he had to be stopped so the gods called for help from the Budda, who came and just one-shotted him and trapped him under a mountain. The monkey spent five centuries of his life under the mountain.
Each character in this short video has their name. Their are five mountain tall gods. These are just one of their menifestation(法相,lakṣana), obviously to intimidate. The tallest guy 6:33 is called 巨灵神(the god of giant spirit),who got ass kicked (literally) by Wukong within a few moves. The four other giants are 四大天王(The Four Heavenly Kings, Chaturmahārāja, namely Vessavana, Virūlhaka, Dhatarattha, and Virūpakkha). They also attacked Wukong at 15:21. The three-eyed god in white is 二郎神(Erlang God). He is the nephew of Jade Emperor, but doesn't respect him deeply down in his heart. That's why he kinda has sympathy for Wukong, it will be shown in the later plot. His weapon 7:03 is iconic 三尖两刃刀 (Spear with three tips and two blades). His dog is 哮天犬(Celestial Barking Hound. In the original novel he is really a hound, the most precise depiction should be a thin Greyhound). The hound and Erlang god together, used to defeat Wukong in the novel, with help from a sneaky attack of another god. That's why Wukong questioned him 'you called that a duel?'.
Wow, 4:52 you can even tell the four heavenly kings apart by the color of the skin or the items they are holding. From left to right is Dhṛtarāṣṭra, white face, Pipa lute; Virūpakkha, red face, Stupa; Virūlhaka, blue face, sword; Vessavana, green face, umbrella. Kudos to the makers!
you miss it completely. his journey didn't start until he messhed up the whole Celestral court and beat up every gods and eventually being put under a mountain by the Buddha himself and later being given another chance by escorting the Tang monk on his journy to the west (India) to retreave the buddism classics and bring them back to China.
yes but how could I have known that before I started the game 😅 I realized it after playing a little. I'm still learning! thank you for your comment :)
@birdyrage, this story is based on what he was commented(he just introduced what happened before this game). We know this because we grown-up with the myth. But great reflections😊
I think you intro has more elements than others. I have seen tens of them but it is the first time I saw the dog also attacked and Erlangshen had the sword.
Ok imma try to give as most context as I can: Long time ago there’s was a rock born from heaven sitting in a mountain, one day a monkey was born out of it, he latter founds a group of monkeys and he becomes their king later the monkey releases that he’s not immortal so he goes in a journey to be imortal, in the way he learns tricks from a teacher in a town, that gives him abilities to transform and duplicate ect, (this is where he gets the name of Sun wukong) until one day Wukong broke his teacher promise of not ever using his abilities to be famous, so the teacher kicks him out, wukong decides to continue his journey of power and immortality, he keep fighting demons and exploring until he founds a palace underwater, he goes in and ask for a weapon he almost didn’t found one until the king gave wukong the magic staff, but wukong wanted armor too so the king, scared called other palaces, they came thinking they were going to fight until the king told them to not engage “he’s too strong,” so they all agree and give wukong pieces of armor, after wukong leaves the kings tells what happens to the gods of heaven and “hell” and they obviously get pissed off so hell takes wukong there, wukong founds a type of temple that has a book, on that books there’s the names of every creatures so he founds his name and the names of his family’s and cross them, this gives wukong 1 point of imortality, after this he goes back to his family but heaven not trusting wukong tells him to come to heaven, wukong agrees, the gods give wukong the job of a stable man, for wukong he thought this was amazing but in reality this was the worst rank on heaven, wukong gets super pissed and leaves, he gets back home and to wukong it’s been just a few months but for his family it’s been years, so they throw a party, the gods (trying to control Wukong) tells wukong to come back that they have a higher rank job to give to Wukong, wukong again agrees and goes, the job is basically to protect a tree, that tree has the peaches of immortality, and it’s wukong job to protect it, wukong agrees and protects the tree until one day a group of ladies come to the tree, asking wukong for a few peaches, wukong ask why and they tell him that the gods are having a party and he is not invited, after the ladies leave Wukong gets super pissed to he eats all of the peaches, this makes him immortal by a bunch of times then he goes to the party (which it haven’t started) and drinks the kings wine of immortality he also goes to the kitchen and eats a bunch of pill of immortality he founds, after he sobers up he relies in the amount of problems he is in so he runs away back to his family, the gods of heaven extremely pissed wants to kill Wukong so Wukong and a group of soldiers that he has goes and fights a bunch of gods he ends up wining so the king had to call Buddha, a then buddha puts in a prison for 500 yrs. One day a monk named Tang Sanzang was “talking to Buddha” aperently there was a war going on and they had to stop it, Buddha gives the monk Tang Sanzang a bunch of scriptures, if someone ever read those scriptures they would be come peaceful no matter what, but there’s was a problem he had to go to the west and a bunch of demons wants to kill Tang Sanzang because they believe they will be immortal if they do this, so Buddha gives Tang Sanzang a group of body guards first (Sun Wukong) then a god that haves been kicked from heaven then cursed to turned into a half human half pig (Zhu Bajie), and a cursed half human half fish (Sha Wujing) before they left Buddha put on them a golden headband, this would help Tang Sanzang so if they tried something the golden headband would squeeze causing a lot of pain. this formed the trio that would help Tang Sanzang through the journey to the west. (I’m going to skip ahead because I would be texting this all day) when they finally get to the west the trio are finally set free and found peace, this is where black myth wukong kicks in, after wukong comes back to his family for some reason the gods of heaven started killing wukongs family, this pisses a lot wukong so he goes amd tries to fight them but loses, a few centuries later a recantation of sun wukong is born called the destined one, his job is to find all wukong artifacts to posibly revive him. This took ages to type, sorry if I was wrong in some stuff (I’m new to jurney to the west) I would appreciate if you found something wrong to tell me since I’m also learning, also sorry if my English isn’t perfect I’m still learning, I had to skip a loooot of stuff from journey to the west because the book is really really long, but I really recommend it, also I really recommend this game, I stared playing and it’s amazing.
The gold ring on Wuling’s head was given by Tangseng (Tang monk) who was escorted by Wukong to the west. Whenever Wukong did not obey his orders, Tangseng would repeat a mantra which would shrink the gold ring to make Wukong a big headache and losing the magic power
Journey To The West is one of the most must-learned literature for us in far east Asia. The main story of redemption, faith, loyalty and perseverance. From Xian, China to India to collect the Holy Scripture by the order of the Emperor, and the journey was so perilous and being tested by both Gods and Demons, to tempt the gank for failure. Not mentioning many demons wanted to eat the monk for the immortality. The journey was so crooked that the main route to India was blocked and they had to detour through Central Asia (The Tans' countries) .. It was an awesome lore ..
The Handsome Monkey King this was such a great opening introducing the legendary Monkey King Sun Wukong his stories are legend especially Journey to the West he's one of my favorite Chinese Mythology Figures👍👍👍
Thx for Birdyrage introduce the story . Here are few my PO of Novel id like to share if u be interested. 【Erlang Shen】 is the nephew of the Jade Emperor. His mother, as a fairy, secretly came down to earth and married with a mortal then【Erlang Shen】been given the birth. Then his Mum was sealed in Mountain by Jade Emperor when 【Erlang Shen】 was 7 years old, to save his mother 【Erlang Shen】as kid, used a mighty axe to split the mountain. So, at the beginning of the game, a video of a big axe piercing into the mountain was played.
The Head Belt is a crucial aspect of Wukong, functioning as a head-restraining device. Only Wukong's master has the ability to trigger the Head Belt. When the master utters the trigger word, the belt tightens increasingly around Wukong's head.
Thanks for the intro video! Actually in the collection edition game box, there is a sort of paitning, you can see wukong with a pig and his master together to talk with a someone else, that's the real journey group, 3/4 people not full group though. I hope one day they can make the real journey of west game, there are 9 X 9 = 81 trials from budda, many of them are famous monsters or yaoguai, would be cool
What happend in 16:30 - 16:35, is that his curse has taken on him. That crown like ring is called 紧箍(Titening band). It was created to control him. When they tricked him to put it on, it can never be taken off. It will be activated by the spell 紧箍咒(The spell of tigtening the band) , and create the unbearable headache, therefore his master could control him. It was said that after he became the Buddha of victorious fighting, the band vanished. Obviously shown here, it is not. In the later plot expecially the true ending scene, it will be explained, this band is key and the reason of the story of this game.
Those 4 big guys (the smaller ones) at the beginning are the Heavenly Kings. They're gods of the cardinal directions, and protectors of Buddhist law. The biggest dude is Juling Shen, god of the Yellow River.
Journey to the west is not just purely a normal mythology fiction. Its level for chinese is same as Shakespear literature in the west.It is considered one of the 4 greatest chinese classic literature . The fiction inspiration is base on the true journey record of Tang Dynasty monk (Xuan Zhang). It will take some Tao and Buddhist philoshopy as well as Tao religion to know the fiction better. However the game is only using the mythology fiction character and not the fiction essence itself.
im your Chinese fan😁,Thank you for patiently learning about this story. The Black Myth story takes place after completing Journey to the West. The cute black dog is the pet of Erlang God--the Howling Heavenly Dog. One of your skills is the Body Fixation Technique, which once immobilized the Seven Fairy Maidens for 7 days. However, after Wukong immobilized them, he just wanted to steal peaches to eat😂
@@birdyrage This game happens after the events in the novel Journey To The West - a Chinese novel written in the 16th Century. In the novel, Wukong was a monkey born from a magical stone. At the beginning of the Universe, Nuwa ( the Goddess of Creation ) used her power to create all lives in the Universe. One day, a great flood occurred on the earth. The water came from the sky (consistent with the world-destroying flood in Greek mythology). As the mother of the human race, Nuwa’s mother contributed her own Life collected colorful stones to mend the sky, and Sun Wukong's stone was one of the excess stones. So he roams the land, seeking a master to learn the secret of immortality. After a long time practicing Taoism magics, and had achieved immortality, he returns to his mountain and named himself The Great Sage equals to Heaven. His playful and cocky nature doesn't sit well with the Celestial Court ( led by the Jade Emperor ) , so between them, there was a beef. Fearing that Wukong would cause destruction, the Jade Emperor offered him a job in Heaven. During this time, he wanders around 33 levels of the Heavenly Palace, achieved 7 more layers of immortality ( by eating A WHOLE ASS GARDEN of immortality peaches, drinking Wine of Immortality, eating gourds of Immortality...... ). He even goes as far as going to Hell, bullying the God of Death, and erases his name out of the Book of Death, granting him another layer of immortality. Wukong is technically a force of the Universe, and now he can't die due to 7 layers of immortality. These acts made the Jade Emperor furious. Then, the Jade Emperor ordered the Celestial Court to sent 100.000 heavenly soldiers ( including Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings in the video above ) upon him, Sun Wukong defeated them all. He destroys the whole Heavenly Palace and threaten the life of the Jade Emperor. In a panic, the Jade Emperor had to ask the All Mighty Buddha to intervene. Buddha defeated Wukong, and trapped him under a mountain for 500 years to teach him a lesson. After leaving, Buddha said that in order to repent for his sins, Wukong must embark on a Journey. His mission was to escort a monk named Tang Sanzang from the East ( China ) to the West Heaven ( India ) to acquire the Scriptures of Buddha. Guanyin ( the right hand of Buddha ) gave Tang Sanzang the Golden Headband to keep Wukong in check ( because Tang Sanzang was only a mere weakling mortal ). By chanting the right words, the Headband will tighten around Wukong's forehead, giving him excruciating headache ( that's what happened in the video - maybe someone was reading the chant when Wukong turns into a bird - could be Buddha or Guanyin, i don't know ). After 17 YEARS of walking ON FOOT, defeating hundreds of monsters, they reached the West Heaven and acquired the Scriptures of Buddha. The party, including Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Pigsy and Sandy - were all given Buddhahood for their achievements. Sun Wukong was named The Victorious Fighting Buddha. All the events in this game happen after that.

No the game is in between the Journey, This event happens after he rebelled against the Heaven gods. He was then trapped in the mountain by Buddha. Then afterward, a human monk is given a mission to journey to the west spreading the transcript, in order to do safely, Quan Yin freed the Monkey King to guard the monk. As the reward for the Monkey King, he will be granted freedom and become a god himself.
The master did not teach him immortality. He taught Wukong the art of 72 magical transformations; few of which included the ability to make a somersault and ride on the cloud (nimbus) as well as spawning multiple doppelgängers of him to fight independently. How he got immortality was when the celestial court decided that, in order not to shake the heavens because it’s just not worthwhile to start a war with him due to him being overpowered, inducted him a role in the heavens. First time, they had tricked him by giving him the lowest of all being in the heavens, a stable keeper. When that happened, he got enraged and wrecked havoc… The celestial emperor, just kept sending deities to rid him only to have them fail one after another. Eventually, they inducted him ‘proper’ giving him the job of being in charge of taking care of the celestial peach garden, Wukong, began feasting himself with the peaches which, other than how delicious it was, also learnt that these were peaches of immortality. Amidst that, he also learnt that the Jade empress was hosting a peach feast and basically invited everyone except him which just goes to show that the heavens was merely putting up with him with all that as a false pretense. So no prizes for guessing what happened next… Amidst all the chaos, he somehow broke into Lao Tzu’s (a great sage, with a prowess in magic and meditation and who is also the creator of the Taoist religion) property where he conjures immortality pills… Unbeknownst to Wukong who was just relishing in his folly of making a statement for how he’d been misled and betrayed, and as always, he basically popped every single immortality pills which had taken aeons to formulate (and just FYI; the longevity or immortality peaches were grown and categorized into 3 types of trees in terms of the time it took to grow a batch; the top range required 9999 years each to bear a batch of ripe peaches which also determined its potency in longevity. Eventually even when Wukonf was captured and sentenced to death, he was basically unkillable because wlexi they tried to behead him, his head was detached but immediately popped right back onto his torso (presumably one of the 72 transformations)… they tend tried to kill him by electrocution (asking the thunder god/deity to strike him with lightning) which also failed miserably cause he was able to dodge them with ease. Lao Tzu suggested to throw him into a magical furnace of eternal flame where he conjures and transmutes things.. He firmly believed that nothing can survive being kept in this burning furnace for a period of 49 days where he'd continuously chant and meditate to keep the flames burning…. No surprises yet again and this time around, Wukong, having to survive being trapped within this endless barrage of fire, has developed 'True Sight' with a new set of golden lashes and a fortified skin of protection….. and the rest is history. Imagine attaining immortality by gouging yourself with peaches known that by merely having a single bit is enough to make you an immortal… as well as gourds filled with Lao Tzu's pills with each one, being able to give the same effect in not being able to die…. you'd think that this sums up how immortal he is, right? No. haha….Dude was casted to Hell and basically got so OPed that he wrecked Hell. When he finally confronted Hade, Hades begged for mercy and claimed that he was just following orders.. Wukong didn’t believe him so Hades showed him the book of death because it basically records all the particulars of beings who have entered hell (in chinese buddhist culture and belief, unless you have attained buddhahood or be inducted officially by a deity, everyone else will enter hell eventually upon their mortal deaths and be placed on judgement to determine how much suffering they will have to undergo based on their doings). Wukong, being the mischief professional he is, decided to scribble his name off the book of death which essentially meant that his name can never be marked (as if it’s some ridiculous glitch for them to re-instate him in the future or something). That was how unkillable and OPed Wukong’s take was.
72 magic skills is not about transferring to 72 things. ... The first one is : Carry Mountain - thats why Wukong didn't die after being trapped in the mountain for 500 years ... Another one is : Walking & Diving in the water like fish ...
You are 80% correct. That is long before Journey to the West. Black Myth Wukong is post Journey to the West. It is now creating by this moment. I am 65 years old and never know anything about post Journey to the West. Wukong in China is more famous than Bruce Lee.
In Chinese mythology, Wukong is a symbolic figure representing the qualities of freedom, defiance against authority, and resistance to hegemony. He is undoubtedly a childhood hero for all Chinese boys. It is one kind of symbolic spirit derived from Chinese philosophy (Black, aka Bad, is not indeed Black, White, aka Good, is not indeed White). Wukong is far from a model figure, but he stands as a true hero when compared to all the gods.

This game was inspired by Chinese mythology "Journey to the West". WuKong accompanied his master name Tang Zeng, a very high rank monk during Tang Dynasty, year 601 AC to India for Buddhism pilgrimage. Finally they brought back Buddhism scripture to Xi An.
Noooo the actual journey to the west happens over 500 years after you stopped reading the story in the beginning. Sun Wukong goes to two key places on his own before then: 1) the dragon palace under the sea to get his staff, 2) the heavenly palace where he wrecks everything. As punishment, Buddha buries him under a mountain for 500 years until Monk Tang frees him to be his bodyguard on his journey to India.
i don’t think you will get the plot of journey to the west through this game since it take place many years after the end of the mythology but it could still be a good intro if you’re interested in sun wukong
я плохо помню английский но у вас очень крутое произозношение какое то американское и почему то вас могу понимать без переводчика, p.s ишу на русском так как лень писать на английском
The meaning is a bit lost in translation if you are listening it in English. The original Chinese conversation between the characters are much better. Oh my god, Sun Wukong's voice really sounded exactly like when I was watching the original TV series in the 80s
Kind missed a huge chunk lol. In short, Sun WuKong didn’t like heaven, waged war against it. Heaven used all kinds of ways could not defeat the monkey king, ask Buddha for help, Buddha trap WuKong under mountain for 500 years and the only way to redeem himself is to assist a monk from Tang dynasty China journey to the west to get Buddha script so he can come back to China to teach Chinese the way of Buddha.
Sun Wu Kong, The main character in Journey to the West (Xi You Ji) story is where AKIRA TORIYAMA got inspired and created "Dragon Ball" original anime and manga. Dragon Ball's Son Go Ku is the Japanese name of Sun Wu Kong. Also the magic cloud 'Kinton'un" based of Sun Wu Kong's Jindou Yun. The original story is Journey to collect the holy Buddhist sculpture in India. The west here is refer to India, since Buddhist came from India originally. Many may know Dragon Ball more than the original Journey to The West itself, especially for non Chinese. Not surprising.... Netflix Original once translated Journey to The West with Hollywood perspective and change it title to "The New Legends of Monkey". This serial really sucks, all characters change to Caucasian, they called it "Whitewashing" and modified the original story line with hollywood version. That is the worst Journey to West (Xi You Ji) ever adapted as movie / TV live action serial in history...Like those hollywood made Dragon Ball movies.... And now thanks for Game Science for developing and making this Black Myth - WU KONG as a great game. Hope more people will know and interest to Sun Wu Kong and also Chinese Mythology....
i dont like to correct people but. theres no such thing as god. buddha made sure of that because buddha said so and if buddha did say there is god he have his reason for why he said it but. i know people better than them selfs. they are ingorant by maximum level of brain wash. and those arent god. they are thevada in english you call them angels. and most of what you just said arent true. dont speak the word god so casually if people arent sure if god exist or not. the word god is made up by people not god dont miss undertsand that from now on. even buddha wouldnt care say im god. does any one of you brain wash out there even know what the word god is??? sheesh man. i know some people they say they see. god. man they crack me up. lets say there is god. even god wouldnt want to take such a responsibility to watch human and everytime when people made a mess of things. in fact people make a mess all the time everyday. I know what that mess is but im not going to tell anyone.. if people truely say they smart than they would know what that mess is
To fully grasp the logic of this game, it's essential to have an understanding of the Chinese novel Journey to the West (西遊記). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_West

Headband is a restriction to limit Wukong's behavior forever by the Heaven's ruler
Fun fact, most of statues and buildings really exist, Game Science team went and scan them in person and put them in the games.

(And you can imagine how blown away I was when I first saw this intro.)
Why was there a battle between Wukong and the Celestial court?
A few more fun facts:
The magical stave he was using in the original novel was actually a divine needle that was used to stabilize the sea.
@@davidw.2467I mean, technically he became immortal 7 times for shits and giggles😂
You are right perfactly
some little background story about the game intro characters.
Thanks for the great explanation!

Yeah what a legend! thank you for your comment!
@@birdyrage Also, your own summary at the beginning of the video precedes the OP's summary.
In chronological order :
1) your summary
2) OP's summary
3) this Game
Actually he was defeated by Erlang Shen first (although with the help of his dog and some other deities. Erlang Shen is the only God in the Celestial Court that have an equal prowess with Wukong, or maybe slightly more powerful then him (some says Erlang Shen reached 73 Transformations whilt Wukong is 72))
Wukong was captured, and Erlang Shen goes back to his home (since he actually doesn't really care about the politic in the Celestial Court).

Spatial transfer, time manipulation, stealth and camouflage, element control, mind control, prediction and divination, etc
the fighting is amazing
soo satisfying
I have to find journey the west drama and watch again. Recall my childhood memories
I absolutely love the line 'Immortality? For that word, all realms and beings have ruined themselves.'' The intro is absolutely gorgeous but the dialogue is absolutely fantastic as well.
Travel by cloud is one of the skills his master taught him. He can travel 108,000 miles per jump from the Journey to the west book.
Black myth wukong looks like a great game.
Birdy you are the only streamer I watch who does research first. Much respect😊❤
That cloud is called "Jin Dou Yun", it's one of Sun Wu Kong's magic😅

@@medalgearsalad1419 Wow, amazing. From the standpoint of an Asian.
@@medalgearsalad1419 Wow, amazing. From the standpoint of an Chinese.😁
Your summary of the start of the long story was quite accurate. 👍
So beautiful
Sun Wukong (the "Monkey King") is actually from the ancient Chinese novel "Journey to the West" published in the 16th century during the Ming dynasty (China) ... other information >> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_West
The head band is called the "Golden Tightening Head Band", put on Wukong by Buddha to restraint his misbehaviour.
Not sure if anyone have informed you already, but the storyline happened after the lore, so there will sure be a lot of callback from the lore
you miss it completely. his journey didn't start until he messhed up the whole Celestral court and beat up every gods and eventually being put under a mountain by the Buddha himself and later being given another chance by escorting the Tang monk on his journy to the west (India) to retreave the buddism classics and bring them back to China.
yes but how could I have known that before I started the game 😅 I realized it after playing a little. I'm still learning! thank you for your comment :)
@birdyrage, this story is based on what he was commented(he just introduced what happened before this game). We know this because we grown-up with the myth. But great reflections😊

Just to explain what Wukong mean , it is "Emptiness realization" , a wisdom concept in Buddhism
Ok imma try to give as most context as I can:
Long time ago there’s was a rock born from heaven sitting in a mountain, one day a monkey was born out of it, he latter founds a group of monkeys and he becomes their king later the monkey releases that he’s not immortal so he goes in a journey to be imortal, in the way he learns tricks from a teacher in a town, that gives him abilities to transform and duplicate ect, (this is where he gets the name of Sun wukong) until one day Wukong broke his teacher promise of not ever using his abilities to be famous, so the teacher kicks him out, wukong decides to continue his journey of power and immortality, he keep fighting demons and exploring until he founds a palace underwater, he goes in and ask for a weapon he almost didn’t found one until the king gave wukong the magic staff, but wukong wanted armor too so the king, scared called other palaces, they came thinking they were going to fight until the king told them to not engage “he’s too strong,” so they all agree and give wukong pieces of armor, after wukong leaves the kings tells what happens to the gods of heaven and “hell” and they obviously get pissed off so hell takes wukong there, wukong founds a type of temple that has a book, on that books there’s the names of every creatures so he founds his name and the names of his family’s and cross them, this gives wukong 1 point of imortality, after this he goes back to his family but heaven not trusting wukong tells him to come to heaven, wukong agrees, the gods give wukong the job of a stable man, for wukong he thought this was amazing but in reality this was the worst rank on heaven, wukong gets super pissed and leaves, he gets back home and to wukong it’s been just a few months but for his family it’s been years, so they throw a party, the gods (trying to control Wukong) tells wukong to come back that they have a higher rank job to give to Wukong, wukong again agrees and goes, the job is basically to protect a tree, that tree has the peaches of immortality, and it’s wukong job to protect it, wukong agrees and protects the tree until one day a group of ladies come to the tree, asking wukong for a few peaches, wukong ask why and they tell him that the gods are having a party and he is not invited, after the ladies leave Wukong gets super pissed to he eats all of the peaches, this makes him immortal by a bunch of times then he goes to the party (which it haven’t started) and drinks the kings wine of immortality he also goes to the kitchen and eats a bunch of pill of immortality he founds, after he sobers up he relies in the amount of problems he is in so he runs away back to his family, the gods of heaven extremely pissed wants to kill Wukong so Wukong and a group of soldiers that he has goes and fights a bunch of gods he ends up wining so the king had to call Buddha, a then buddha puts in a prison for 500 yrs. This took ages to type, sorry if I was wrong in some stuff (I’m new to jurney to the west) I would appreciate if you found something wrong to tell me since I’m also learning, also sorry if my English isn’t perfect I’m still learning, I had to skip a loooot of stuff from journey to the west because the book is really really long, but I really recommend it, also I really recommend this game, I stared playing and it’s amazing.
basically nothing could control him until the headband , yes he is that powerful
The gold ring on Wuling’s head was given by Tangseng (Tang monk) who was escorted by Wukong to the west. Whenever Wukong did not obey his orders, Tangseng would repeat a mantra which would shrink the gold ring to make Wukong a big headache and losing the magic power
Actually the golden head band is given to Tangseng by the goddess of mercy to control wukong. The mantra is also taught by the goddess of mercy. 观音菩萨。
Calling for and travel by Uber cloud was apart of his teaching from his Daoist master. 😅

Love the lord and the story!
The head band one that keep Wukong on the leash.. Wonder when this band are removed from him..
The story of son wukong is more long that what she said.😊
Those 4 big guys (the smaller ones) at the beginning are the Heavenly Kings. They're gods of the cardinal directions, and protectors of Buddhist law. The biggest dude is Juling Shen, god of the Yellow River.
It's actually 72 earthly spells, transformation is just one of them
Journey to the west is not just purely a normal mythology fiction.

This game is what happened AFTER the journey to the west
yes! I realized that after playing a little hehe :)
He was incredibly strong and smart from birth, and was named the Monkey King by all the monkeys in the Mountain. But, he still could not defeat aging and death.

Have you ever played the game or are you just trolling here?
Game of the year❤🔥
The master did not teach him immortality. When that happened, he got enraged and wrecked havoc…
The celestial emperor, just kept sending deities to rid him only to have them fail one after another.
So no prizes for guessing what happened next…
Amidst all the chaos, he somehow broke into Lao Tzu’s (a great sage, with a prowess in magic and meditation and who is also the creator of the Taoist religion) property where he conjures immortality pills…
Unbeknownst to Wukong who was just relishing in his folly of making a statement for how he’d been misled and betrayed, and as always, he basically popped every single immortality pills which had taken aeons to formulate (and just FYI; the longevity or immortality peaches were grown and categorized into 3 types of trees in terms of the time it took to grow a batch; the top range required 9999 years each to bear a batch of ripe peaches which also determined its potency in longevity.
All I know, Wukong is real god.
You are 80% correct. That is long before Journey to the West. Black Myth Wukong is post Journey to the West. It is now creating by this moment. I am 65 years old and never know anything about post Journey to the West. Wukong in China is more famous than Bruce Lee.
This game is after the story's journey to the West.
nice looking!
you see the word Sun, but its pronounced as Soon
Greetings, fantastic story, thanks for sharing, fabulous game
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Wukong is far from a model figure, but he stands as a true hero when compared to all the gods.
undisputedly and undoubtedly the best game of the year !

In Chinese, the surname 'Sun' is pronounced as 'Soong'.
Suen, not soong lol..
Monkeyyyyyy
🐵🐵🐵
This game was inspired by Chinese mythology "Journey to the West". WuKong accompanied his master name Tang Zeng, a very high rank monk during Tang Dynasty, year 601 AC to India for Buddhism pilgrimage. Finally they brought back Buddhism scripture to Xi An.
so only the first part of sun wukong no buddha and monks its not journey to the west
I think it's nice to have the backstory!
actually in chinese it should pronounce like "soon wu kong"
Chinese mythology is the oldest in the world so underrated
я плохо помню английский но у вас очень крутое произозношение какое то американское и почему то вас могу понимать без переводчика, p.s ишу на русском так как лень писать на английском
hehe happy to hear ^_^
中國人懂識字的第一神仙童話故事..每個人都想當自由在的孫悟空..他的棒子是來自東海龍王宮殿的柱子..那不是武器..但能變長變粗..孫悟空很喜歡..平常縮小擺在耳朵裡..
Smash
Bro is replay
Yes, those are the gods. But this Black Myth is not the original story of Journey to the West.
Wukong .... Japanese anime make Son Goku
The meaning is a bit lost in translation if you are listening it in English. The original Chinese conversation between the characters are much better. Oh my god, Sun Wukong's voice really sounded exactly like when I was watching the original TV series in the 80s
WOW 厉害 几乎还原 西游记
Kind missed a huge chunk lol. In short, Sun WuKong didn’t like heaven, waged war against it. Heaven used all kinds of ways could not defeat the monkey king, ask Buddha for help, Buddha trap WuKong under mountain for 500 years and the only way to redeem himself is to assist a monk from Tang dynasty China journey to the west to get Buddha script so he can come back to China to teach Chinese the way of Buddha.
And the only part that’s real is the journey to India by the Tang Monk Tripitaka. His name to today is still in Nalanda university hall in India
New game form chinese PC n PS5 game
法国美女,千万别让二师兄( 🐷 )看着 😆
not him
Turn to chinesee
i dont like to correct people but. theres no such thing as god. buddha made sure of that because buddha said so and if buddha did say there is god he have his reason for why he said it but. i know people better than them selfs. they are ingorant by maximum level of brain wash. and those arent god. they are thevada in english you call them angels. and most of what you just said arent true. dont speak the word god so casually if people arent sure if god exist or not. the word god is made up by people not god dont miss undertsand that from now on. even buddha wouldnt care say im god. does any one of you brain wash out there even know what the word god is??? sheesh man. i know some people they say they see. god. man they crack me up. lets say there is god. even god wouldnt want to take such a responsibility to watch human and everytime when people made a mess of things. in fact people make a mess all the time everyday. I know what that mess is but im not going to tell anyone.. if people truely say they smart than they would know what that mess is
This game looks like a movie I watched before istg
The game is based on a mythology. In fact, it is a novel, one of the four great masterpieces of China.
It is pretty well known in the western world. Just not well known among white, black and latin people.
Nice
hi are you still playing the game. we are waiting 😅
Yes I am :) here’s the latest episode >>> ua-cam.com/video/HFto72gBJR8/v-deo.htmlsi=B2IZrzWsunpIPZL-
To fully grasp the logic of this game, it's essential to have an understanding of the Chinese novel Journey to the West (西遊記). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_West
the word 定 mean stay still😊
