  • NIGHTCLUB TWO STEP - Step 2 (Left Turning Basic)
In this video, professional country dancers Anthony and Rose Lewis teach you how to dance nightclub two step, pattern #2, The NC2 Left Turning Basic.
A beautiful slow dance, Nightclub two step is a great alternative to slow dancing. Danced with a simple rhythm of slow, quick, quick, the nc2 is an easy dance to take out on the country dance floor anytime you would normally slow dance.
Nightclub Two Step, not to be confused with Country Two Step, is a beautiful slow dance that can be danced anywhere there is slow country music.

I like your version of the Nightclub Two Step basics because / even though it's different from the basic as taught by every other teacher I've seen. I'm not sure if a dance can really be invented by one person, , but Buddy Schwimmer is credited as inventing this dance, so I guess he did. He starts with his left - see from 0:23 to 0:35 at ua-cam.com/video/k7TDAgKPAOE/v-deo.html. Same with Michael Kiehm @ 1:33-2:09 ua-cam.com/video/AI5K7AXuOeI/v-deo.html. I see that you're version works very well - indeed possibly better. Can you help us think thru how these different versions are both possible? Are there some times when you would dance the starting-with-left version? Could the leader dance one version while the follower dances the other version? (I presume that would be problematic, but perhaps it would work for some moves?) It would be interesting if people with "two left feet" could do this dance and succeed even if they are on the "wrong" foot. Thanks.

The reason country nightclub starts with the leader on the right is because of the large crossing step and smooth styling. If the leaders began with the left as usual, the crossing step would force him into "counter promenade position" which can be quite awkward at first. When he begins with the right, he is able to lead straight into something that continues in open or apart position and it just feels (and looks) more natural.
As far as the original style of Nightclub Two Step, it is danced with a rock step and is counted q,q,s rather than s,q,q. If we do a rock step, we are dancing more of a rhythm dance rather than a smooth dance. There is nothing wrong with that style at all... it's just a different thing altogether. This style of nightclub fits modern country music and is danced substantially slower with an emphasis on the slow or down beat in modern music.
To see more of this style, do a UA-cam search for "UCWDC Nightclub". The UCWDC is the United Country Western Dance Council... the largest governing body for country dance competition.

      Cool!
I totally agree that qqs feels like a rhythm dance and sqq feels like a smooth dance, but I have no idea why that change would have that affect. ... Just watched your ua-cam.com/video/u5Qaa5QqBYI/v-deo.html. I should have seen that before writing. Stepping from the foot vs stepping to the foot / with the foot. Cool.
I don't know how I hadn't noticed before, but from my next glance I realize that the steps are virtually the same - the cross (the 3rd step in your version's basic, the 2 in the other version's basic) is still with the lead's right.

The rhythm doesn't change the character. S,Q,Q is just better for today's slower music that has an emphasis on the down beat. The rock step is part of what makes it more of a rhythm dance.
