In this video I'm talking mainly about what's been going on in my life for the last few years and why I haven't been around much because sometimes people send me messages wondering where I am. This was a hard video to make because there has been a lot of sadness and to be honest this isn't even all of it. I'm also talking about what's happening next with me and the channel which will hopefully now be more positive. Hi, I feel your sadness and I'm so sorry. My Father died when I was 15 and I still carry it with me now I'm 66. All my family passed away since but it was my Fathers passing that changed me. You introduced me to leather craft and it's a big part of my retirement now. Thank you for sharing your skill and knowledge and I hope life gets a lot easier for you in the future. If and when you're ready it will be a joy to see you again but whatever happens I feel your angels will circle around you and help you through this.
Sometimes life is not fair but we have to deal with it. Family and your health are very important. You do what’s best for you and soon you will be back, take care of yourself.

I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve had to go through all of this, Ian. I can relate to an extent, my father died of cancer during lockdown, I wasn’t able to visit him. I then had to deal with all the funeral arrangements, probate, etc, from a distance and wasn’t able to attend the funeral either due to travel restrictions. It’s a horrible situation to be in. Don’t worry about disappointing subscribers, just take care of what you need to. We’ll be here when you are ready! And thank you for everything you’ve shared with us so far, your channel is what got me into leatherwork, and it is now my main occupation. I will forever be grateful to you for that. I used to forge knives and they rarely sold. It was not because the knives were not good but people wanted a sheath included. Well I checked with the limited leather workers in my little corner of the world and because of the lack of competition, the price was more than I made for profit as well as part of my over head and material cost. So I didn’t sell many knives. I saw your videos and from your instructions I now make all my sheaths. Though they are not as professional as yours, they are better than the ones that I commissioned by far. Now I sell all the knives I can produce. I love knife making and until I found your UA-cam channel I was ready to give up. Now I have two enjoyable and affordable pass times, thanks too you. I thank you for your videos and all the excellent content you have supplied. Hope things even out for you and catch your second wind. You make some of the best instruction on leather working on the web.
Sorry to hear all your troubles. I have heart failure myself along with atrial fibrillation and bowel cancer and am in the later stages of running out of steam. Leather work and drawing is pretty much all I do now and your channel was a huge part of my early learning. You are still where I point people with questions and I believe the best on UA-cam. I will watch all your content and will no doubt dream of having the workshop that you will create. Best of luck with all your future endeavours.

This was hard to listen to. My condolences and sympathies to you and your family. That's a lot of very hard things to deal with. The thing with your grandfather reminded me of my aunt Mildred and my grandfather in their respective final days. I can't even finish watching cause that really hit me heavy. I hope you won't be taking this channel down or the videos though. I've been trying to get into a point in my life where i can start doing leather work and was always hoping to follow your tutorials.
Regarding my aunt I was living with my grandfather at the time and he took in his sister Mildred. She used to work for the FBI and she was always acting like she was back in the organization. Everyone in our little town that looked suspicious was a drug dealer to her, every house that looked a little in disrepair was a drug house. We lived in texas but our town had a bunch of Japanese spider lilies all over it. At the start of fall they start to quickly grow and bloom and this can be as quickly as overnight they go from blank stalks to these vibrant red flowers. My aunt woke up one morning screaming for everyone to be on alert because people were trespassing and had put a bunch of red flags in the yard. My father and I tried to explain they were flowers but no, she saw flags. People had invaded our property and put little flags on the lawn. I went ou TV and plucked one and brought it to her and she saw it was a flower. Few days later, similar incident except this time someone had stolen all the flags. No, these flowers just live a few days then die. My grandfather had moments where he became angry at me for having a computer in his room (he was a luddite) and so i went to where he said it was and he pointed to an empty spot on the floor. I tried to show him nothing was there by waving my hands in the spot. He got more angry thinking i was using some star trek level technology to make it go invisible and said i was always doing this stuff. Me and "those kids", what kids? No idea. I'm not a mom and I know no one with kids.
Spot on! My parents are in their late 90’s and still living in their home here in the US. I’ve been looking after them for decades now. It’s a challenge. A couple weeks ago my proud 98 year old father told me that I was the reason he was still alive. You are a good man!

First of all, I'm very sorry to hear of your losses and I hope your Mum is getting better with time. Your story is probably quite familiar for many people during these times we are going through. Our world is rapidly changing and probably not for the better. When I saw your headline about closing down your shop, I was concerned that you would be leaving leather work for good but now I see that you are leaving temporarily and will rebuild your shop soon and put out videos once again. I'm happy to hear that as your videos had a lot to do with me getting back into leatherwork during my retirement after many years of "life". I still learn from watching you and have much respect for your talents. Good luck with your new venture and know that my prayers are with you and I am looking forward to your new direction. I’m sorry for all the challenges. I went through a period of about two years during which I lost both parents, my remaining grandparents, a brother-in-law and father-in-law. We like to think we’re in control of our lives but these times teach us, we aren’t at all. It’s a long road and I wish you strength.

It has been really rough for everybody, worse for some. I'm sorry for your losses. I will say that I perked up at the end of the video when you clarified that you would be back from a different location. I hope that 2022 is better for all of us and that your move is successful and a new brighter chapter in your life. I've been watching your videos since you had your tools under the staircase and have enjoyed the evolution of the space from where you currently work and your skills growth. I look forward to the development of the new workspace and the upcoming DIY projects. I particularly enjoy your meticulous approach to projects. I hope that you include ideas for small efficient workshops, realistic solutions to small spaces, maximizing it, and maybe multiple uses for the same space with folding benches and so forth. I find moving a bit stressful since I tend to place stability and familiarity very high in my scale of mental health stability but, it has also been my experience that, at particular times in life, radical change is for the best. This year I lost a friend by an aircrash. A worklmate died and the grandad of a close friend died as well. I feel with you, Ian. Wow Ian, I'm so sorry to hear about so much sorrow insight a short time. I was wondering how your mom was coping with it all. Too much. Thank you for sharing this personal story, it certainly hits home how horrible the last couple of years have been, moreso for some than others. I just watched the video about the delay in the house. The thing with your grandfather reminded me of my aunt Mildred and my grandfather in their respective final days.
I can't even finish watching cause that really hit me heavy.
I hope you won't be taking this channel down or the videos though. I've been trying to get into a point in my life where i can start doing leather work and was always hoping to follow your tutorials.
Regarding my aunt
I was living with my grandfather at the time and he took in his sister Mildred. She used to work for the FBI and she was always acting like she was back in the organization. Everyone in our little town that looked suspicious was a drug dealer to her, every house that looked a little in disrepair was a drug house.
We lived in texas but our town had a bunch of Japanese spider lilies all over it. At the start of fall they start to quickly grow and bloom and this can be as quickly as overnight they go from blank stalks to these vibrant red flowers.
My aunt woke up one morning screaming for everyone to be on alert because people were trespassing and had put a bunch of red flags in the yard.
My father and I tried to explain they were flowers but no, she saw flags. People had invaded our property and put little flags on the lawn.
I went ou TV and plucked one and brought it to her and she saw it was a flower.
Few days later, similar incident except this time someone had stolen all the flags. No, these flowers just live a few days then die.
My grandfather had moments where he became angry at me for having a computer in his room (he was a luddite) and so i went to where he said it was and he pointed to an empty spot on the floor. I tried to show him nothing was there by waving my hands in the spot. He got more angry thinking i was using some star trek level technology to make it go invisible and said i was always doing this stuff. Me and "those kids", what kids? No idea. I'm not a mom and I know no one with kids.
Spot on! My parents are in their late 90’s and still living in their home here in the US. I’ve been looking after them for decades now. It’s a challenge. A couple weeks ago my proud 98 year old father told me that I was the reason he was still alive.

First of all, I'm very sorry to hear of your losses and I hope your Mum is getting better with time. Your story is probably quite familiar for many people during these times we are going through. Our world is rapidly changing and probably not for the better. When I saw your headline about closing down your shop, I was concerned that you would be leaving leather work for good but now I see that you are leaving temporarily and will rebuild your shop soon and put out videos once again. I'm happy to hear that as your videos had a lot to do with me getting back into leatherwork during my retirement after many years of "life". I still learn from watching you and have much respect for your talents. Good luck with your new venture and know that my prayers are with you and I am looking forward to your new direction. Any DIY video subjects are welcome by me.

I’m sure they were very proud of the man you’ve become and felt at peace knowing you will do great in your life. When you began there were hardly any leather workers doing videos. There are many now- even some using your techniques. That speaks volumes. Your future vids sound great. I’m sorry for all the challenges. I went through a period of about two years during which I lost both parents, my remaining grandparents, a brother-in-law and father-in-law. We like to think we’re in control of our lives but these times teach us, we aren’t at all. It’s a long road and I wish you strength.

It has been really rough for everybody, worse for some. I'm sorry for your losses. I will say that I perked up at the end of the video when you clarified that you would be back from a different location. I hope that 2022 is better for all of us and that your move is successful and a new brighter chapter in your life. I've been watching your videos since you had your tools under the staircase and have enjoyed the evolution of the space from where you currently work and your skills growth. I look forward to the development of the new workspace and the upcoming DIY projects. I particularly enjoy your meticulous approach to projects. I hope that you include ideas for small efficient workshops, realistic solutions to small spaces, maximizing it, and maybe multiple uses for the same space with folding benches and so forth. I find moving a bit stressful since I tend to place stability and familiarity very high in my scale of mental health stability but, it has also been my experience that, at particular times in life, radical change is for the best. Since December 2019 I've lost 2 dogs my grandmother and my father. It's been very hard and I sympathize with you greatly. Leather work and the leather working community has helped me cope, I've improved my skills and found great comfort in my crafts.
