My model of Chromebook (Samsung 4 "Bluebird") doesn't boot if it detects a battery isn't connected so step three doesn't really work... all I get is an endless cycle of the charging indicator light turning red, green, blue, blinking red, and then repeating this pattern endlessly.

Typically that means the battery has failed. The next step to try would be to replace the battery.
@@EggheadFixers I will try that, but I get that light pattern even when the battery is fully disconnected, that's why I'm confused.

the battery gets warm but no light comes on the screen stays dark
When you hit the power button do you hear the fan spin or anything?
