I love labs but that is a lot of hair and a lot of care especially being home alone and with a disability, I did it with kids and huge country yard and that was a ton of work, they occupy a lot of space, have a lot of exercise demands and the cost of feeding and medical care. Certainly a lot of weigh and measure in prayer.
This warmed my heart so much! It's the exact same dynamic that I have with my service dog and husband. I think it's actually more therapeutic for me that they have such a strong bond, to be honest. I always love to make fun of him though, because before we even got her a few years ago and I was first talking about needing and training a service dog, he actually said "But if you train the dog as your service dog, it won't love me as much." Those have ended up being the dumbest words he's ever said! Also, I wish you all the luck in the world with your cannabis endeavor. I did that once when I visited friends in Shreveport LA! Didn’t realize how BIG and SPRAWLING that city is!!! 🤪 my hotel was way, way on the other side of town from my friends!!! Ever since then, I always ask who I’m visiting to choose a hotel close to them for me! 😂 😂💗
That leg kick was brilliant. I had a German Sheppard and a team of 8 humans. My lass was very much "he's my dad and thats it" I had to sign off on anything before she'd do anything. It wasn`t bad about it, just very much my lass and she let me and anyone else know
When I used to ride public transit to work, a team rode the bus with me in the morning and afternoon. Days we caught the same bus, we sat together because I respected her dog was working at that time. However, during talks with the handler she explained when her pups harness was off..he was a pet. These dogs are highly trained and incredibly intelligent. End story...when not "on duty" Harlow is just as much Judd's.
That situation of only the handler feeding the dog is typically JUST for the bonding process to ensure the dog understands that the bond is between them and the handler primarily. Over time it can change!
It's a good idea to have a back up handle for those times when the handle is unable to maintain our pups training, especially if you predominately use a wheelchair, may have extended hospital stays, or become house/bed bound. Between pressure sores, dislocating my shoulder & clavicle this spring, and the PNW snow apocalypse, my ability to go out with my pup has been seriously curtailed.
When I got a second dog I named her S'more. (Mostly because she was light brown, dark brown, and white, but also because we got s'more dog, lol.) (She was so cute, I was told she was Golden Retriever/ German shepherd/ Pomeranian, but I think she was actually a Throwback Pomeranian.) 🐾
To me it sounds like Harlow is your service dog but with Judd she can be just a pet, be of duty! To me having that kind of balance sounds pretty ideal for the dog!
I know you know this Judd, but adopt don't shop. If you are looking for a specific breed visit the kennels they are at before purchasing from them. Many dogs come from "puppy mills". They don't get good medical care, the kennels are filthy, dogs caged in their own waste. They don't get socialized, and there is a lot of inbreeding which can cause health problems. I am sure you know this, but just a heads up if you didn't, and a reminder if you do know.
There’s also good breeders. If people want to get a well bred dog from a good breeder they aren’t bad. Adopt don’t shop criminalizes good breeders and gives people a stupid hero complex. Adopt don’t shop is the stupidest saying ever. Adopting is good but it’s not the right choice for everyone
Look for a reputable breeder. Make sure they're doing health and genetic tests, don't get them from a backyard breeder who charges out the tail for a puppy with health issues. My aunt is breeding working class GSD with the whole shebang of tests. Elbows, knees, temperament, all of them. Not all breeders are backyard breeders ♥
Uhm.. Didnt they say they were gonna adopt them and if you will buy one you should ask for the liscence to see if it isnt expired cuz if it is you can investigate them to see if they are abusing them

As someone with a chronic illness. I have three dogs in my home because I wasn’t expecting to get my service dog for another year and my Senior dog has been I’ll. Well, now I have three dogs and it is a lot when my husband is at work. They are wonderful, but dealing with three dogs when I am feeling bad. It Is difficult because one is sooooo hyper and needy and the senior needs help up sometimes and I cannot lift her. Three dogs is a lot!

We have a pitbull(female) that is almost 5 and a chocolate lab(male) that just turned 3, and I don't think I could handle another one!! I love my pups like my children, but they are CRAZY at times!! (Doesn't help that the lab is more horse size at 120lbs🤣🤣🐶🐶) I definitely enjoy having 2 though cause they entertain each other.
My organization that I got my pupper from has guidelines where I am only allowed to take care of him and he isn’t really allowed to interact with my parents.

When Judd mentioned the black lab I just wanted to say this 😂. Black labs are known for i think it was a type of cancer I don’t remember the exact one but I had a black lab and the vet said that they are known for that.

Polopony20 Juniper is what they want to name their next dog when they get another dog in a year or so. They don't know yet if they are going to train it to be Harlows replacement or just the basic dog commands. She said all this in a previous video if you want to check it out.
Are you considering picking Juniper or Lilly to potentially be trained as future service dogs? Or are and will they ever be destined as pets? If Harlow has to retire one day, and you'll have to get a fourth dog for a new service dog, you'll have a lot of dogs ;)
I had never heard that in regards to SD programs before. That's sad to me for both the dogs and the handlers. I imagine that would cut out a lot of people from the program since many with disabilities might be unable to care for a dog, especially the breeds favored by SD organizations, by themselves. I mean I could understand if there was some scientific evidence to back that up, but otherwise it just seems ridiculous to me. Every dog/team is different and should be able to do what's best for them imo.
My SD loves my mom but she does know I'm the handler and she needs to listen to me when out or at home, if i have an episode, etc but she's a dog amd loves people abd loves getting petted

I read recently that the "pack" mentality is not correct. The wolves are a family. And there are two leaders. The head female and head male. They are the ones that have cubs. Harlow loves other dogs, so getting more would be good for her. We have a yellow Lab. He's a good dog. He likes to flush turkey and deer when you are hunting pheasants.

Sandra Bentley Wolfs have an alpha couple, they are the only who’s who have pups, the rest of the pack are from former litters or sisters/aunts.
