- " Mari Boine, previously known as Mari Boine Persen, née Mari Boine Olsen (born 8 November 1956) is a Norwegian Sami musician known for having added jazz and rock to the yoiks of her native people. Gula Gula (first released by Iđut, 1989, later re-released by Real World) was her breakthrough release, and she continued to record popular albums throughout the 1990s. In 2008, she was appointed Professor of musicology at Nesna University College."

This is more of a proper song, using the Sami language, and not really a joik. A joik is more like a mantra using sounds similar to how certain Native American tribes (especially Akwisasnee) say “oh way hey yo”, or other similar vocalizations. Arguably “vuoi vuoi” could be the repetitive yoik part here, but the rest of it is just a proper rock song in the Sami language.
Quick correction, the part at 2:50 is actually a joik as well.

Très beau c'est vrai mais ça n'a rien à voir avec les Indiens, d'Inde ou native americans.
Mari Boine est norvégienne. Elle est d'origine Saami. Le peuple Saami est un peuple scandinave.
La chanson est en Saami.
Actually, Sami people are not Scandinavian but come from Finno Uralic languages and they have their own culture. Sami have stayed more exclusive. My grandparents left Sampi many generations to escape persecution. They did not talk about their heritage, only that they were "good Norwegians." It wasn't until they got closer to their time up on earth that they opened up about how their ancestors coming from Lapland was a bit different than living in Scandinavian communities. I always thought I was Scandinavian until I learned about the Sami and my family living in Arctic North Norway. I am sure I have some admixture but I was told by a GI geneticist but I have a rare congenital indigenous disease where I lack enzymes to break down sugar (after years of trying to find a diagnosis and they finally sent me to a GI specialist /geneticist.) It was like all the pieces of the puzzle coming together learning about this heritage with stories told by my grandparents. What I have learned is that I really can't call myself a Sami because I don't live the culture nor do I speak the languages or live in Sampi but I think it is safe to say I have Sami heritage.
