Perfect person to make a tv series about Steede bonnet aka the gentlemen pirate is one of the most fascinating person in history. Pirates are really interesting in general such as blackbeard putting lit wicks under his hat to seem more demonic and threatening.

"other" methods), though I'm glad she also gave me the warning to stick with it until at least ep4 as it's a bit of a slow start. Looking forward to season 2!
I'm so happy you watched this, I'm just sad it wasn't in separate videos, cause I have so many tidbits about this show it'd make a comment into a novel 😅 First of all, I need to mention that I've been obsessed with this show for over a year now, I was watching it as it came out and losing my mind along with tumblr, especially after 4,5 and 6 dropped, that full moon scene has had me in its grip since then, it's still my fave of Ed and Stede. Also I need to share my pain that it took over 2 months for them to confirm we were getting a s2 at all, and boy were they torture, I'm just happy the fandom was collectively freaking out and I wasn't alone 😅. Some fun facts about the show: Ep. 1: -Young Stede was played by Theo Darby, son of Rhys Darby (Stede) -The British officer who gets tied to the boat is played by David Jenkins, creator of the show -Nathan Foad (Lucius) improvised the wooden boy voice lines -Kristian Nairn (Wee John) improvised the line about helping his mother with the sawing, because his mother used to saw him outfits for drag shows Ep. 3 -You can actually catch the moment Lucius steals back Jim's knife when he passes by Jackie right after Stede goes to leave -The "We could have made magic" line at the end of the man for sale bit was improvised Ep. 4 -Unpopular opinion, but I believe Black Pete used to be on Ed's crew, but probably in the lowest position, as in this episode we see Izzy and Ivan (I don't remember if Fang smacked him) hit him and that's the only person on Stede's crew to get hit by them. He also immediately assumed the fog was part of Ed's plan, even before anyone else realized what was happening. -I'm pretty sure the moment when Stede asks Ed wether he likes fine fabrics is the first time Gnossienne 5 plays and you can hear that in all their significant moments 🥰 Ep. 5 -Con O'Neill (Izzy) has mentioned in panels that he kind of "blacked out" when he was doing the whole daddy thing 😅 so that was improvised and I believe that scene was even longer before the edit Ep. 6 -David Jenkins confirmed the swordfigthing scene in the beginning was a stand-in for a sex scene, not that any of the fandom doubted that 😆 -When Ed is crying in the bath he's clutching Stede's golden robe and that fact will never not melt my heart 🥲 Ep. 7 -Jim says their favourite colour is teal and Olu wears a teal earring 🥰 -The entire restaurant conversation was, in fact, improvised (so was the tea convo in the beginning of the ep.). You can really tell Rhys and Taika have known each other for over 20 years at this point when watching it, I think. Ep. 8 -Taika improvised both the "Whip my balls, Jack" line and the foot touch at the end when they're already arrested, the duality of man 😅 Ep. 9 -I almost didn't believe we were actually going to get the kiss until I was watching it on screen (even now I'm still flabbergasted by the fact that they're canon, THEY'RE CANON!!! 🥰🥰🥰) and then shit hit the fan 🥲 I honestly wanted to strangle Stede the first time I watched this ep, watching Ed's heartbreak on that dock makes me ache for him even just thinking about it now 😢 Ep. 10 -I love Mary, I love Evelyn and I love Doug. I love Alma and Louis. I've become absolutely obsessed with fics where Ed and Mary meet, especially ones where she doesn't realize he's Ed immediately. I am hoping against hope that we see more of them in s2. -You can hear the people hoisting the piano up commenting they don't need to get it all the way up to the 2nd floor 😄 -I am 100% team Lucius is living in the walls of the Revenge, I absolutely refuse to accept anything else 😅 After all, Stede mentioned the secret passages back in ep 4 and they were never brought up again, so it was perfectly set-up. -I still haven't seen the entirety of the toe scene 😅 and honestly, I don't want to 😅 Omg, this comment came out a beast (sorry about that 😬😅) and it's far from a full list, it's just some of the things that have grabbed my attention the most, but, as I mentioned, I've been quite obsessed with this show 😅💜🏳🌈🏴☠ I absolutely recommend What we do in the shadows 2014 and both of the spin-off shows What we do in the shadows 2019 and Wellington paranormal, they're all hilarious imo 😁
I study a lot of history. Like I read academic papers about pottery shards level of nerdy about history. Which means I'm normally nitpicky as hell when it comes to historical dramatizations. "Our Flag Means Death" is one of my favorite recent shows because it does historical adaptation right - Every single thing in this show is either true to history (seriously, some of the more absurd bits are actually true like Sneed paying his crew a regular salary instead of a percentage of loot), fills in the blanks with plausible events, or makes a direct reference to the actual history when they go off the rails so you know they're doing it intentionally. Plus, as a comedy show, it's not trying to present itself as a complete and accurate recounting of true events so knowing they went the extra mile to be as true to the spirit of the history as they did is amazing.
The writing is great, the improv bits are great, the character development is great. Also "I think I'm just so-so, but I've decided to carry myself as if I'm cute" was the moment at which I decided Lucius was a treasure and needed to be protected at all cost.
one thing i like to do while rewatching this series (or just watching people react to it, like now) is to look for anachronisms and references to other media. this show plays fast and loose with historical accuracy, but in a way that tells you they did the research first before deciding what to toss. my three current favorites: 1) blackbeard's outfit is basically the same one from mad max: the road warrior; 2) olu's crocs; 3) fang's hot topic belt headpiece.

You're completely valid in your reluctance to watch/enjoy this show. Humor's subjective no matter how "popular" it is, like food. But sometimes all the right ingredients come together in the perfect pot & you discover an amazing meal! And OH YES. Oh this is great. I am currently ill, with a fever and dizzy spells, but seeing this pop up is like the best thing ever! As one of the people that recommended it, I am glad you enjoyed and liked it! I love this show and its characters. Like there are so many likeable characters established, with such relatively small screen time. It made my Kiwi heart glow to see Rhys Darby in a leading role in a big series. I like how soft and sweet his character was, but Oluwande, Jim, Lucius and of course Ed were great as well. Plus the humour and the themes covered. Plus the representation. Though uggh yeah that cliffhanger. Going to be a tough wait. Seeing people discover and enjoy the show and talk about it, helps a lot though.
OH HELL YEAH YOU FINALLY GOT AROUND TO THIS!!! i'm a punk w a battle vest and my biggest patch so far is a hand-made replica of blackbeard's flag from this show. i played a pirate in my college pantomime last year (pantos r a big thing here in england, and i'm a performing arts student) and i wouldn't stop referencing this show or recommending it to my fellow pirates. i love everyone, but jim makes me especially happy, being a nonbinary person who loves pirates and loved seeing myself in one in this way, and i ADORE ed - he's just. so relatable!!! lucius is also absolutely iconic and i'd die for him tbh. (i'm also admittedly an izzy enjoyer, but shhh) i'm so excited for season 2 tbh. i'm never gonna shut up once it's been released
This show is amazing and shows truly what Taika can do (outside the MCU), this is on a similar level to What We do in The Shadows for me. Also it took me originally half the season to realize that Darby was the "WELCOME TO JUMANJI" NPC in the new movies. Also I did not expected to see Taika that much in this, I thought he would show up for an episode or two and be gone.....but nope he stayed for half of the show and became an important part of a love story that I did NOT see coming at all (tbf relationship stuff go over my head unless is clearly stated in media). It was right as the WB/Discovery merger was happening that s1 ended, and it seemed likely we’d get a second, but it took forever for the official announcement. Lots of 😬 I do suspect they’re gonna wait a bit before getting Stede and Ed back together. I think it’s gonna get worse for them before it gets better. S2 can’t get here soon enough!
This has been WAY overdue lol I was beginning to lose hope you would finally join OFMD. I am a proponent of the theory that Izzy has been in love with Ed for a while and his inability to deal with his issues plus watching Edward find happiness with Stede is what motivates him. Looking forward to What We Do in the Shadows. You will adore it. The actual story of Stede Bonnet is fascinating.
I genuinely love this series. After the first episode or 2 I was a little worried that Stede's whole arc was going to be how he's a little weenie of a man and always has been, and he'd just keep kinda failing upward and getting lucky, and by the end of the season he'd learn to be confident with being pathetic and just kind of owning it and going with the flow. And that's...just leagues upon leagues less interesting than what we got. I call it the Paul Blart threshold; when you make your protagonist too pathetic when attempting to make them an underdog. I love all the little moments and interpersonal relationships between the characters. I love how much depth Stede has and how we see him grappling with his dreams and his grief. Same for Blackbeard too. I especially like Stede getting closure with Mary; it would have been so easy to depict them as toxic exes the entire time, but they gave them a moment of support and understanding. But most of all, I love that they actually let Stede and Ed's connection be romantic. Apparently the showrunner had no idea queerbaiting was a thing, so he was surprised people were surprised they went for it, which is hilarious to me.
I highly recommend "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" to fans of Taika. I also enjoyed "Eagle vs Shark", but that one has some characters which are difficult to relate to.
Season two is coming, and I'm looking forward to it - but as season one at least roughly traces the actual history and the timeline, it's probably not gonna have a happy ending.
Say what you will about THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER, but I found some things to like about that movie. Fun fact: Hercules in the post credit scene is played by Brett Goldstein, who garnered fame for his role as Roy Kent in TED LASSO. Trust me when I say this, but you will love this show. The most recently released episode was easily my favorite of the entire series.

Lgbtq shows that I could recommend you know there's the standard like Shadowhunters awesome show in Roswell New Mexico which is one of my favorites right now other than the ones that I listed other than that awesome amazing show started in 2019 and finished up last year much like Shadowhunters ends in a big gay wedding happy ending all around awesome show. And if you ever watched Pretty Little Liars you know Caleb played by Tyler Blackburn who came out as a bisexual man. And literally has the cutest boyfriend ever plays in Roswell New Mexico as Alex a gay character returning to Roswell New Mexico after being gone for 10 years. And reconnect with his childhood sweetheart Michael. There are ladies in the show that are also queer there's a lot of people of color and it kind of Harkens back to the book series where the main actress is Latina like in the books instead of kind of whitewashing like the first show. Even though some of the main characters of the first show are actually in it kind of like our main Liz on the first show and the guy that played Max is also in it. So it's awesome and I'm seeing nothing but good things out of the new our flag means death so I don't think you're going to be disappointed overall.. have subscribed keep up the great videos awesome🎉

one thing i like to do while rewatching this series (or just watching people react to it, like now) is to look for anachronisms and references to other media. this show plays fast and loose with historical accuracy, but in a way that tells you they did the research first before deciding what to toss. my three current favorites: 1) blackbeard's outfit is basically the same one from mad max: the road warrior; 2) olu's crocs; 3) fang's hot topic belt headpiece.

Oh this is great. I am currently ill, with a fever and dizzy spells, but seeing this pop up is like the best thing ever! As one of the people that recommended it, I am glad you enjoyed and liked it!
I love this show and its characters. Like there are so many likeable characters established, with such relatively small screen time. It made my Kiwi heart glow to see Rhys Darby in a leading role in a big series. I like how soft and sweet his character was, but Oluwande, Jim, Lucius and of course Ed were great as well. Plus the humour and the themes covered. Plus the representation. Though uggh yeah that cliffhanger. Going to be a tough wait. Seeing people discover and enjoy the show and talk about it, helps a lot though.

i'm a punk w a battle vest and my biggest patch so far is a hand-made replica of blackbeard's flag from this show. i played a pirate in my college pantomime last year (pantos r a big thing here in england, and i'm a performing arts student) and i wouldn't stop referencing this show or recommending it to my fellow pirates. i love everyone, but jim makes me especially happy, being a nonbinary person who loves pirates and loved seeing myself in one in this way, and i ADORE ed - he's just. so relatable!!! lucius is also absolutely iconic and i'd die for him tbh. (i'm also admittedly an izzy enjoyer, but shhh)

This show is amazing and shows truly what Taika can do (outside the MCU), this is on a similar level to What We do in The Shadows for me. Also it took me originally half the season to realize that Darby was the "WELCOME TO JUMANJI" NPC in the new movies. Also I did not expected to see Taika that much in this, I thought he would show up for an episode or two and be gone.....but nope he stayed for half of the show and became an important part of a love story that I did NOT see coming at all (tbf relationship stuff go over my head unless is clearly stated in media). Also I wonder if I can recreate that 100 orange cake lol

I genuinely love this series. After the first episode or 2 I was a little worried that Stede's whole arc was going to be how he's a little weenie of a man and always has been, and he'd just keep kinda failing upward and getting lucky, and by the end of the season he'd learn to be confident with being pathetic and just kind of owning it and going with the flow. And that's...just leagues upon leagues less interesting than what we got. I call it the Paul Blart threshold; when you make your protagonist too pathetic when attempting to make them an underdog.
I love all the little moments and interpersonal relationships between the characters. I love how much depth Stede has and how we see him grappling with his dreams and his grief. Same for Blackbeard too. I especially like Stede getting closure with Mary; it would have been so easy to depict them as toxic exes the entire time, but they gave them a moment of support and understanding. But most of all, I love that they actually let Stede and Ed's connection be romantic. Apparently the showrunner had no idea queerbaiting was a thing, so he was surprised people were surprised they went for it, which is hilarious to me.

Season two is coming, and I'm looking forward to it - but as season one at least roughly traces the actual history and the timeline, it's probably not gonna have a happy ending.
Say what you will about THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER, but I found some things to like about that movie. Fun fact: Hercules in the post credit scene is played by Brett Goldstein, who garnered fame for his role as Roy Kent in TED LASSO. Trust me when I say this, but you will love this show. The most recently released episode was easily my favorite of the entire series.

And if you ever watched Pretty Little Liars you know Caleb played by Tyler Blackburn who came out as a bisexual man. And literally has the cutest boyfriend ever plays in Roswell New Mexico as Alex a gay character returning to Roswell New Mexico after being gone for 10 years. And reconnect with his childhood sweetheart Michael. There are ladies in the show that are also queer there's a lot of people of color and it kind of Harkens back to the book series where the main actress is Latina like in the books instead of kind of whitewashing like the first show. Even though some of the main characters of the first show are actually in it kind of like our main Liz on the first show and the guy that played Max is also in it. So it's awesome and I'm seeing nothing but good things out of the new our flag means death so I don't think you're going to be disappointed overall.. have subscribed keep up the great videos awesome🎉
