I know and its terrifying to think about my aunt has a ps2 who played horror and final fantasy while my xbox owning uncle had the action call of duty games n64 i had a good childhood but these newer madden games are just greed and laziness thanks ea.
And how much better the NFL football games were. From Joe Montana on the 16 bit systems through "NFL2k"... The players union and EA have an exclusive deal. Once that happened, EA stopped trying. The Madden games on the 16 bits to PS2 era was good, not as good as NFL, but good. With all the advances in technology, you would think that EA would be able to make a game where upper-body movement looks realistic on the field. They see no reason to without any competition. Monopolies are dumb.
The on the field defensive audibles were insane. You could quickly make a TON of last second adjustments and keep the offense COMPLETELY lost in what to expect.
I am actually a youngster (born in 2005) but was around when all of the older maddens were released. The first madden I got was madden 13 for the wii and that game was fun as it utilized the Wii’s motion controls i have the current madden games to just have fun with them I don’t care if people say that they are bad I just had fun with. Before the complete covid lockdown I discovered that my wii system could play GameCube games and I took that opportunity to buy the older madden games that came out when I was a kid and DAMN they are FUN! And now i kind of know why the newer madden games are bad
I think something so frustrating about this problem isn't just the list of features removed or lost but also the AI and feel of the game. It is hard to explain without actually playing the older games, but if you go back and play a game like NCAA 06, the AI even on varsity difficulty just plays so well. When you play madden these days it isn't just the bugs to me, or the lack of features, but how the gameplay is so bland and unsurprising. The CPU will never roll out of the pocket, dodge sacks, make a throw on the run, or use combinations of jukes and spins... Playing against the CPU Reggie Bush and USC in NCAA 06 is wild. He will take direct snaps, throw halfback passes, they will run the option perfectly, stuff like that. In some of the older maddens (maybe madden 07?) Peyton Manning on the colts would change the play and audible frequently. Tom Brady in NFL 2k5 has signature throwing animations and drop backs. What I think it is personally were the sliders and tendencies they coded for specific players and teams, which they don't perfect or fine-tune anymore. Playing against Texas with Vince Young feels different than playing against Matt Leinart. You can also play against Army / Navy and they will run the option out of the wishbone, which is a ton of fun to play against. What it feels like to me in modern Madden is that it's just a "Stat Check" contest. Obviously, Mahomes completes more passes than Nick Mullens, but not for a good reason. It's not because Mahomes dances in the pocket, rolls out, and delivers a ball down the field, it's because his Accuracy is 99. Lol.

Actually I think thats a good move. Don't get me wrong madden blows, but I don't need little imaginary officials out there getting in the way. I would like to see sports games move AWAY from television realism. My dream football game would be basically a squad based shooter but a sports game. It would be like overwatch. You play 7v7 and you and your boys party up and there would be a roster of 20 some dudes to pick and everyone would just be a guy. You want Tommy to run a post...just say "yo Tommy run a post"...and then Tommy runs a post. I don't want fuggin sideline reporters in my game, or officials....or for fucks sake commentators. Just gimme music and player trash talk. Sports sim games are stale. Competitive arcade sports games like rocket league are the future. And the thing is is that "overwatch football" doesn't even require a license. They are all gonna be fictional dudes anyway. I think that even the madden haters have their heads up their asses and can't see that the game concept itself is stale. Take hockey for example...Super Blood Hockey is the best hockey game to come out in years and its basically an indie game. Its a whole fresh concept of what a sports game can be, basically mixing jrpg elements in like its fire emblem. The whole "I want it to be just like TV" attitude is the problem to me.
@@selvinmckay6768 so what...so are commercials. should the game have built in commercial breaks? I honestly hate seeing refs on the field, especially if they are tangible and can interfere with play. Its a video game, get rid of the geriatric old men wobbling about the field while insane, Goku like freaks are doing their thang. Bad calls are part of the game too...maybe every so often you should just get a shitty spot or a flimsy P.I. Maybe 1 out of every 1000 games in Cleveland the fans throw bottles on the field and the game ends early (ok that would actually be dope). The point is is that its impossible to simulate football...thats why you gotta go play it meat and potatoes style, IRL...so since its impossible to simulate, just make a game that feels like football but is actually fun to play. IMO NFL Blitz has yet to be topped because it understands the limitations of sports games and just decided to be a great video game instead of a mediocre attempt at "simulating" football. Like how much of a "simulation" is it if you can put up scores like 35-28 on 5 minute quarters. And thats been the case going back to Madden 98. play Madden (any year) on 15 minute quarters and tell me how its in any way a simulation.
As a retro video game store owner, every single word you said in this video I’ve agreed with 100%. Games used to be packed with fun. Now the first question from development corporations is, “How do we add micro transactions?”
Why spend money on upgrading your store and keeping it clean when customers will still buy from you no matter what? Wouldn't you rather use that money to give yourself and employees a bonus instead? Or maybe put it towards marketing? It's just smart business for them, don't blame the company blame the consumer for supporting it.
@@BoleDaPole No, you don’t blame consumers in this case, because consumers just want a good NFL game and aren’t able to get it because EA and the NFL don’t allow competition. Also, the majority of the dorks maxing their parents credit cards on MUT and funding EA’s trash, are little kids who don’t know any better and never played an actual good football game. Blaming 13 year olds for being 13 year olds doesn’t make sense. EA and the NFL who provide them the exclusive license, that’s the problem.
@@amgbenz0664The fault is on both. You can blame the consumers why would you ever work harder on an Product when you earn even more cutting corners and putting in no effort. If I ran ea I would do the exact same things they are doing.
@@Indy_Bendy Whether or not it is a smart or profitable business decision for EA, is irrelevant to my comment. Blaming kids for being kids, makes zero sense. Even young adults nowadays, have no reference or bar to compare Madden to, so they couldn’t possibly know first hand how far behind the simulation is from where the competition would have had it. If you ate celery everyday since birth, then you wouldn’t know it tastes bad unless you had a burger or pizza to compare it to. Putting cocaine in coca cola was also a smart and profitable business decision, doesn’t make it right nor does it make the consumers the problem.

It’s not just about lack of competition. as a whole, video games should have more possibilities than what we end up getting. You can get more out of a 10-15 year old game than a lot that have come out in the last couple of years. It’s just that Madden is the most stark example of it.
Tbh, it's an issue with sports games in general, but especially Madden. At least in other genre of games, there have been huge jumps in one way or another. In Madden, there's been complete regression almost everywhere.
I get your drift but the problem with sports games is that you know a new one is coming next year lol so when something is so routine and annual, of course the quality is gonna drop off eventually. The call of duty series may be routine as well, but not sports game level of routine 😂🤷🏾♂️

Note: A big one for me is I remember in Madden 05 when one of your players got injured in franchise mode they would be listed as day to day, questionable, or unable to play. If they were questionable and say if it was an ankle injury, you would see that player have that ankle wrapped during the game. Madden 05 mini camp was so addicting. I miss those days. Especially when you load it up and the players say “ea sports it’s in the game”!
Madden 05 and 06 were the best sports games in history. From the soundtrack to the gameplay madden got it perfect those years!
@@dukec2255 Madden 2007 was the last good madden, And I agree with you
Madden 07 is the best madden ever imo.

Features and graphics are 2 different things.. I stopped playing once we couldn't choose if you wanted to play without the analog sticks or not...
I think over 150.
The youngsters today don't realize how good ps2 Madden was. Damn shame.
I know and its terrifying to think about my aunt has a ps2 who played horror and final fantasy while my xbox owning uncle had the action call of duty games n64 i had a good childhood but these newer madden games are just greed and laziness thanks ea.
2 madden fan boys last year said straight in my face madden 21 is better than “do do” madden 08.
Lol.
Gameplay is coming in part 2 of the video! It's a major part, maybe more important than the missing features
@@SOFTDRINKTV I'd really like to see madden switch back to a physics based engine rather than their modern animation based gameplay
The old games would not let you run the same play over and over. After the 2nd or 3rd time they were on it.

The fact they didnt put refs on the field shows EA not giving AF anymore. Lil details like that baffles me
Refs are part of the field..why takem out
Actually I think thats a good move.
Damn I never even noticed that
@@davidrafferty2491 do you want a simulation football game or not? Refs are part of the sports authentication.
@@BoleDaPole Blame both. Both are wrong.
Putting cocaine in coca cola was also a smart and profitable business decision, doesn’t make it right nor does it make the consumers the problem.

without competition, this always happens. If youre job couldnt re replaced would you be any good?
It’s not just about lack of competition. as a whole, video games should have more possibilities than what we end up getting. You can get more out of a 10-15 year old game than a lot that have come out in the last couple of years.
It’s just that Madden is the most stark example of it.
Tbh, it's an issue with sports games in general, but especially Madden. At least in other genre of games, there have been huge jumps in one way or another. In Madden, there's been complete regression almost everywhere.
That's a bullshit statement. Video games are getting so many new features.
I get your drift but the problem with sports games is that you know a new one is coming next year lol so when something is so routine and annual, of course the quality is gonna drop off eventually. The call of duty series may be routine as well, but not sports game level of routine 😂🤷🏾♂️

I haven't bought a Madden game in about 5 years. Year after year I play my friends' who just couldn't resist buying it and year after year I am reaffirmed in my decision to not waste close to $100 bucks on something that was better 10-15 years ago. Exceptional video sir, heading to part 2 now.
Wow, thanks. I'm always annoyed when people mention madden being bad, or videos ranting about it, but they don't explain it. You did a great job helping me understand what the problems are with the current Madden. Not sure if there's a fix but who knows. If enough people see something like this and cause a fuss, maybe when the contract expires the NFL will look for a better partner.
Been playing madden sence madden 2001. The downfall is 100% due to ultimate team. Before that they acually worked on the game. Now they only want you to play ultimate team so they make everything else unplayable.
Mut fans hate to hear that but it is true
100% facts
Yeah I hate how Franchise is forgotten and they copy of of NBA with the player thing I stopped buying after 18 now I have Gamepass and it merged with EA so I get them for free I checked it and it was meh not as good as the oldies
Right there with you. Year one of the ultimate team packs, was the last year I Bought Madden. Played football games from the 80's on and there really was a development wall mid 2000's.
You could say that with not only Madden, and not only other EA Sports titles (looking at you, FIFA), but also any sports game in general like NBA 2K.
It seems the only series that hasn't let an Ultimate Team mode plague them to the death is MLB The Show. Sure they have an Ultimate Team mode, but building said Ultimate Team seems a bit easier there than in other titles.
“They also had PHYSICS.”
-zooms in for emphasis-
Using classic Sim city music to diss an EA franchise... there's levels to this 👏
Was looking for someone who noticed lol. Man I played the shit out of SIM city. Had to cheat tho. Didn't have time to build the city all slow. Never could get that Mario statue.
See at least cities skylines came around to become a spritual sucessor, and unlike EA they actually encouraged modding and provided support.
I miss those sim city days
What song?
@@xThat1Guyxx sim city
This is such a great video, just brought back some great memories. I have not bought a Madden game since 2013, and disappointment is an understatement with that game.
The production quality of these videos is amazing. Great work.
ESPN NFL 2K5 is still the best football game ever made.
Retro bowl on the App Store has more content that madden 21😂😂😂
Such a good game!
Yes bro
I know I love that game
Ah, great game
It’s so true
nice this video is already goated. if this doesn’t get 2 million views imma throw hands
Facts
We gotta spread this video to the other side of the madden community
Yeah what you gonna do come at me! Come at me.....
Why does the NFL keep giving EA exclusive rights? Blame them too.
Money
They are still mad at 2k5 for making their game $20. EA and the NFL are that petty
spiderman< what new stuff is there in the new madden games? i have not played this for a couple of years now... is it all the same? the Espn nfl is a much better game, but EA have destroyed the sport gaming world with their monopoly!
money!
this was nostalgic, yet very sad to watch. Content is everything! The create-a-fan did it for me. I used to love seeing that fan, that MY fan! lol
You honestly deserves so much more praise. Toke, Cookieboy, MMG really don’t put in the effort that you do and yet they still get more views. People like us know that the old madden was great not even nostalgia but factually more packaged and enjoyable. I really hope more people start watching your videos
kaykayes
MMG is the goat
I knew the old games were WAY better but I forgot about alot of these features. And I used to have so much FUN. RIP MADDEN
Angry Joe told me to check this video out, i'll be watching it once i'm done with his review. Any other Angry Army members here?
Yup. What's good brother?
@@badasahog Me too!
I've been with Angry Joe since 2016.
I tend to watch his negative videos above his positive ones, but I am a fan of his.
Man, I forgot how much a I used to love the rich Franchise mode! I haven't played madden in years and everytime I think I might get back into it, I research the Franchise mode and walk away from it. Thanks for this great reminder, I'm gonna go find my old copies and start playing what I used to love again.
you setting the custom score on the Falcons-Patriots game to 28-3 made my day
Even simple things like the training outfits in minicamp, that’s simulation right there. Instead we get teams wearing full game day kit in every mode, just nonsense like that puts you off.
This 100%
Madden 2009 was the last one I can remember having players in actual practice uniforms.
Amazing video! Those of us that are products of the 80's and 90's can tell the difference between quality football titles and what we're playing now. Thanks for informing the younger generation!
Madden 2004 with Mike Vick on the cover was the first madden I fell in love with Madden 2003 was a close second in my book
Facts. I had Madden 04 on ps2. That one and Madden 09 were my favorites.
I agreed, until Madden 2005 with Ray Lewis on the cover added Hit Stick.
RIP Sean Taylor
Madden 2003 was my first Madden. I remember playing it with my friends all the time. We'd play on the same team and run corners non stop.
Cheerleaders had physics😂. Damn EA as really went that low
Boob physics was a standard feature back then. Every self respecting game had to have it.
Boob physics or gtfo.
@@thkarape I believe the first game to have it was Dead or Alive for PS1.
I can’t be the only one who couldn’t ever play against Peyton Manning in the old games. Those 15 20 seconds he’d change the play were so boring lol good times when too much realism is the issue!!
Fr and he always threw dots
I forgot about that. Man that drove me nuts
That’s why I hated playing against Indy
So true.
I learned to never adjust with your own audible or player movements so Manning would hike the ball a little sooner
Only those that grew up playing Madden in the early 2000s understand this video. I remember noticing all of these features disappearing in real time.
imagine 2k21s graphics, gameplay, attention to detail, and career mode in a Madden game
They have became just as money hungry as ea, the graphics would be ok but not as good as you would think, I wouldn't mind sds taking over a madden game
@@b3gemini609 the are just as money hungry yes. The graphics wouldn’t be much better true. However, the core game is definitely better and it’s not even close. Even tho 2k loves to gouge their fan base they still offer a lot more in the game at higher quality.
@@xThat1Guyxx but the online would be unplayable. 2k servers and clipping issues are so much worse than madden. Try playing both games online and I guarantee you madden has better servers
@@succonastick oh I’m not saying that but in terms of franchise and career mode it’s not even close
@@succonastick EA severs ain’t good neither ☠️
I couldnt stop playing Madden ‘05. I played 13 seasons straight in franchise mode.
In my opinion 2005 is the best Madden ever made, next Madden ‘92. I had the 2005 collectors edition. Should’ve kept it. Haven’t bought Madden since 2009 and don’t plan on ever buying it again. I’m about to stop playing The Show too, it’s getting unrealistically over-dramatic. It’s one game where stats and trends matter the most. But hell, throw all of that out of the window. Who cares if they’re dead last in batting, 3 HR’s in one inning because you scored 2 runs on them 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I get it, not too many former athletes are engineering these games.
Being a former athlete I can tell you, majority of these games the last 10-12 years are just in game features to purchase cards, equipment etc. they’ve stripped away all realism for fantasy play.
But the AI is all scripted to do certain things when you do certain things.
@@Nebo888 05 was dope, I hate 18 cuz gronk got hurt n I had to use Bennett
Sheesh I never even knew how much stuff this game took out. They're really just out here playing us.
You can't miss it if you didn't know it existed, shows the demograph they're targeting. It's a trend that far exceeds video games unfortunately.
What I loved about 2k on the Dreamcast was they updated the roster so you didn't have to pick up the newest game just for a roster update.
Agreed
This makes me sad, I used to be so excited every year for the new Madden to come out. Now I might buy it when its on sale for $5 and then get bored of it after 15 minutes because there's nothing new in franchise.
5 bucks it's all it's worth. And that's it. I would buy it for 5 bucks. Atleast I'd know what I'm getting for 5 bucks because the game has the content of a 5 dollar game. But not 60+. The people spending 60+ on this game are the problem.
got the derrick henry off brand madden old spice ad while watching this.
pretty sure that would be a better game than the maddens we have now
2K should make a college football game if they can’t make a simulation NFL game
Duuuuddeee!
Facs
thats only if the NCAA will allow it, but with them allowing players to make money off their likeness it could be a reality soon.
@mike smith what does that have to do with his comment?
They used to have a football game. It was just as good as madden at the time
Interesting video. As an outsider looking in (not a football fan), I feel really bad for nfl fans who play madden. You guys definitely deserve better. Hopefully you guys will get a great football game one day that ea won’t be able to get their grubby lil hands on.
I was never able to explain why I stopped playing madden. Just couldn’t remember all the things I loved lol
My guy made a half hour "part 1" video on Christmas. Props.
Bro could you imagine how dope franchise could be if you had to make a whole playbook and create your own plays
I actually used Madden 07's Historic Teams and playbook creator to recreate the 1966 Packers and some of Vince Lombardi's own plays because I could.
@@NikeTubeStudios just the ability to 😔 imagine what madden could be
@@Hahah100 You mean “remember what it USED TO be”?
@Harry Engel running to daylight with Taylor or Hornung, the whole thing.
EA has done the same thing with NHL as well. 2k had this amazing feel to their ice hockey games but EA won out. NHL 2004 and 2005 had the most amazing game feel, and the presentation, especially in the menus, was incredible. EA has been adding back some of the zany features, but booting up NHL to hear subdued pop music shows they still don’t get it.
EA Sports: "It's in the GAME!"
... except refs.
...and a coin toss.
...and realistic physics.
...and a decent franchise mode.
...and create a team.
...a decent half time show.
It's all about the payroll
And so much more....
...and commentary
...and many more ands.
And cheerleaders.....
and actual sideline physics....
I remember when I got Madden 09 for Christmas from my Dad. Anyway: Merry Christmas ⛄!!!
Your channel the only reason I got a ps2 emulator
Just got myself an Xbox Classic loaded up with Madden 02 through 09. Chilling and playing old Madden games while we start the new season.
Awesome the ps5 and the series x are powerful consoles but there something about the ps2 and xbox era that were golden.
@@adrianjuarez1162 - Going back and actually playing them, 02 & 03 are archaic. 04 is a step in the right direction, and it is 05-08 which became legends.
MADDEN WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THE DAYS ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS MAKING MONEY FROM MUT😡😡
You are right. As long as the money is in MUT the rest of the game will be as cheaply produced as possible so not very good.
The good days of madden are gone
Capitalism... :(
Mut is even garbage
I love the old school SNES Sim City music in the background.
SIM CITY! Yes! I was wondering what the song was! I'm like... I've heard this song for hundreds of hours... where was it from? lol
It makes me so sad, since I had Madden 08, and it was so beloved, and was so excited to see what Madden would turn into. But its EA, and ever since Madden 13, I've learned not to expect anything from them.
It's only the microtranscation counts for them, sad day
