Beautiful instruments and nice playing good job. Tone rolled off a bit on the sunburst? I'm going to try out a set of low tension flats. In the Minnesota winter time I need to tighten up the truss rod quite a bit. Some times the truss rod nut gets maxed out on certain basses.
I live in Vermont and solved the same problem w/ Thomastik-Infeld JF 344 , which these Labella's share the design, sizing, and tension with. The LaBella version seems to have a more lows and less mids than the TI on this great demo.
Different basses & pickups tells us essentially nothing about differences in strings, esp. similar strings from same manufacturer. Love this channel though so happy to listen to Andy’s playing anytime!
@@snstyvr7597 it's all absolute nonsense the tone really comes from the player. On my P bass I have flats and on my jazz I have rounds and I love the way they take you in different directions. Hi brother, I have a Hofner and want to buy these LaBella beatle flatwound light, but I'm worried because I use the bass half step down. Do you think the light gauge works well with Eb standard, or it's better to pick the standard gauge? Thanks
Aw, yeah! Andy, I just searched for an LTF comparo, and you came up! Well done dude. Question, there seemed to be some low end distortion with the LTF's. Was that because of the strings? Best to you.
I'm about to try a set of LTFs on my late 2000's American Standard Jazz bass in an effort to see if I can save the neck, which has way too much backbow, even with the truss rod maxed. Anybody else try something like this?
All I'm hearing is the sunburst being noticeably darker (in the high mids - imho neither bass has real 'highs'). But is that because of the age of the strings? Different pickup winding? Maybe someone can weigh in and say if the Low Tensions are inherently darker sounding, or what.
These vids have made me curious about the Low-Tension flats. I've never been able to get the old DTFs to work for me. I haven't even tried TIs because I figured that the extreme low tension wouldn't work for the way I play, so I haven't spent the big $$ to find out. The LTFs seem like a good middle ground. Right now, I'm using a hybrid set of Fender 9050ML and 9050L.
Trust the TI's are great. My rick wasnt setting up properly and i couldnt set the action low cause of the high tension of some of these flatwounds. Problems immediately solved upon putting on the TI's i wanna give the la bella low tensions a go on my P bass but it honestly feels better to play.
@@lisaredsatl2571 The 9050Ls aren't stiff at all. The 9050 MLs are stiffer than most round wounds on the D and G strings, but aren't incredibly stiff. They sound great, but if you like the La Bella sound, you might not prefer the Fender sound.
The Deep Talking you used, are the Höfner light gauge 39 to 96, the low tension are quite a bit thicker gauge 43 to 100. Either way, i like both, and found both similar in tone. The "playability " would be a better comparison, as the much lighter gauge, would have compensated for the lower tension of the heavier gauge.
That’s just him using the wrong image. The Hofner strings wouldn’t even fit on a P bass… Just turn your brain on for half a second and think about it… and you can look (using your eyes) and clearly see the strings on the red bass are fatter than the strings on the sunburst bass.
Don’t suppose you remember which set of 760 flats it was? I can’t tell if the silks are black or blue. They’ve got a brightness to them that I’ve struggled to find so far, I’m sure a 61 P helps!
I'm pretty sure those are 760FS (black silk). Unfortunately on my Precision with the pure vintage 63 pickup they sounded a bit muddy so I currently have d'addario chromes, but I've heard them sound fantastic on P basses with brighter pickups and/or maple fretboards. It all depends on the pickup/strings combo in my opinion
@@andysvintageguitars2335so yours saying the extra light didn't need any truss adjustment? Which strings can you move fastest on? Which are better for slap? Im considering one of the 2 sets for my fender jazz, have any recommendations for which would be more suitable for the jazz? Thanks
@@Trey-jl9ruThat doesn’t make sense. They didn’t say they couldn’t hear a difference. It’s that there are differences beyond just the strings. How pickups are wound can make a big difference. Hi, love the tone (and playing) of the DTBs.. is it ok to use hofner 39s on a P bass then? Aren’t they for a shorter length? Sorry for noob question!
It would have been helpful to have the strings on the same bass for the comparison. Both beautiful sounding basses and strings though.

Yeah I wanted to know this too
I doubt strings would do that. It's probably a signal or gain issue. Just my 2cents.

Tonally not much difference but the 760FHB2 seem to be a little brighter and less prone to distorting, especially on the open E string.

Also with that set the E string will sound darker, but that's usually true with all La Bellas, it's a classic flatwound feature
Are the low tension flats really that much darker sounding or did you have the treble rolled off?

The low tension as the neck wanted some relief cause the strings don’t pull much
