One of his best gags is about seeing a country music artist who kept introducing his songs by saying "...and it goes a little something like this". Carl yelled out "Why don't you play it exactly how it goes".

One of the first jokes of his I heard was the one where he's on a plane, and the flight attendant asked, "Would you care for an orange juice?" He replied,"If it needed me. "...... "Is it going to be alright?"
Last time I watched Carl live, I literally cried with laughter. Such a talent, love him! 🇦🇺
Carl retired last year with a closing show in Brisbane, Queensland. Lovely human.

If you look at the Etymology of ‘Thongs’, the term only became synonymous with G-Strings after an American Ad in the early 90s, prior to that, calling “Flip-Flops” Thongs was widely used in the U.S., and is a very long standing term, Historically, for the Footwear.
The beach boys call them a pair of thongs ,in the song, all summer long..that's how I knew Americans called them thongs at some stage in history

After being a fan of Carl for many years, I was lucky enough to see him perform in Melbourne last year. I just love his humour - he doesn’t rely upon swearing, racism, sexism etc to make people laugh, it’s very relatable/observation based humour. You would be hard pressed to find an Aussie that doesn’t love Carl. He’s a national treasure.

We used to call them scuffs now slides. And yes,if they wear socks, the go between the big toe and the 2nd toe .
yep, the fashion failures over here will wear socks under normal flip flops with the sock being pushed between the big toe and next one. Quite a lot of older people do it as their feet get cold.

Hi Suzi & Travis, I love all your reactions to anything Australian. If you want a real good laugh, then watch Roy & Hg doing their unusual hilarious gymnastics commentary at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Give it a go and see if you don't laugh your heads off, I don't want to say too much as it would spoil it for you two but give it a quick look at and have fun laughing. Micky J.
As a kiwi, I can tell you that one can successfully wear flip-flops (or jandals over here) and socks at the same time...though my wife is not a fan lol
Thongs goes back to when shoes were basically a piece of leather for the sole, held on to the foot by leather straps called thonging, which went between the toes and wrapped around the foot and leg, much like roman sandals. No, slides are slides in Australia too

In New Zealand we call slides scuffs and yeah we normal socks with them usually In winter but we call flip flops/thongs Jandals and to wear normal socks with them you make a indent by pulling the sock between your toes if you get what I mean 😂😂
Ok im Australian and yes we call them thongs for your feet, sandals are the same as you guys. I seriously have never heard the term slides for those slip on sandals before. Theres also crocs which is the same as you guys too. We are pretty Americanised here but i will never call thongs flip flops nope i refuse that one lol
Thongs are thongs, slides are slides and sandals are sandals. All different things
Sandal is a general term for an open shoe, though. Flip flops and slides fall under that term.

What you guys call flip-flops, here in NZ we call them Jandals, which is the correct name. WW2, Japanese issued something very similar to captured allied soldiers. The pow's called them Japanese sandals (hence the word Jandal). A returned pow brought the idea back here, refined them a bit, and the rest is history. Now there's some totally useless info for ya.
Thongs are Thongs or Pluggers and Slides are just Slides or Scuffs. And yes we wear socks with thongs lol. But crocs are taking over lol

Thongs in australia are the flip flops that you wear between your toes. You can get socks that are split where your toes are which enables you to wear thongs (flipflops), but not many wear those...😂😂😂

Growing up in Canada we used to call 'flip-flops', 'thongs'. I still have to catch myself occasionally to not make that mistake.

Where the strap goes in between your big and second toe, when put on a sock you have to push the sock between the big and second toe before putting the thong/flip flop on.
no, people here put socks on and then put the thongs on....ie the ones with the rubber between the big toe and the next one, this was before the slides came onto the market.
