A cut and weld expert does cut and weld. I would have put the old pin in just the bent ear sleeve and the stick and bent the ear back by manipulating the bucket against the ground. If it can be bent into a bad position, it can be bent back into position until a new pin fits. This likely got bent because the pin slipped out of the other ear. Isaac is great. IC Weld. Amazing work. Very humble as he finds better solutions and corrects himself on video.

I swear I could see that flange move three times when you were heating it. It may not be the way everyone would do it but it was a fantastic job. Like you said in the beginning that there is a thousand ways to do that and I would have done it albeit with an arc gouge probably. Thank you for filming that. Oh, yea Isaac is awesome!

No matter how far we advance in the future, we still need the old ways for permanent fixes. Like you said, a thousand ways to skin a cat. I like the result and not sure I would of tackled it the same way but your liquid steel filled the gap just fine and with air needles made it super strong. No tearing that eye out. I have seen it done on bigger stuff... I will check out your friend... good video, Might get some time and kylon the tool truck enough that she hides her age better. I seen where it came from and you have done so good.

Enjoy? I do this in Minnesota. Well for 2 or 3 more years. I had a bucket bent like that . The operator was using the side of the bucket to backfill a trench. Nice repair.

Pressure and heat shrinkage would be the easy way . A jack or heavy prop and tapered wedge then a heat band roughly where your welding would move it in 20 mins , faster if your allowed to quench . Spent half my life building heavy fabrications for offshore and half of that time straightening after welders did their stuff .

I saw your bracing and I brace as well.....but whenever I am welding on ears on both sides.....as plenty of bracing....the pins get tight and have to be beat out with a hammer...any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed.
I’ve ran into that too. I would like to say that spreading the heat around will help, but sometimes it doesn’t. There have been a couple of times that I’ve had to back gouge the leaning side and pull it back straight by welding. There is no tried and true method just weld a little while. Check things if they don’t look right, you may have to make adjustments.
C'mon!! Look at those stack o' dimes!! Humble is nice but you did great! Just wish I could've sent you a bunch of boxes of 1/2" 7018. Got about 8 boxes from a friend who got a pallet from ESAB and I can't use them in my shop. Blessings friend!
By the way… I found a awesome old welder to restore!!! It’s a …national cylinder gas co. Sure arc 150s portable wheelbarrow welder. Has a onan p243 2cyl gas engine and it’s 150amp dc welder. It’s AWSOME!!!! Old welder from 1953!!!! Waiting on a connecting rod for it to arrive
Oh what trying times are these when excavation companies bring a bent ear to someone to repair without heating it and and using the boom arm as a hammer first!
Enjoyed watching this project. Do you use the umbrella to keep the sun out of your helmet so you can see the weld better? I have that problem out here in the high desert of Colorado.
If you want to eliminate sideways load swing while using a crane, swing the boom in the direction the load is swinging but only go so far as you're above the load, then as it swings back, swing the boom over the load again, keep going until the load is under control.
Recommend using a fire blanket on that pin protecting it from spatter, for some reason these new pins attract spatter and can cause problems getting it to move in and out.
Great job!! But just some friendly advise. I think your welding that a bit too hot... its one thing to have enough amperage to get good penatration on heavy metal, it's another to be running so hot your blowing your weld out the bottom. By "Ving" the metal out you ensured good penatration as you build up welds and that is great, however 7018 welding rod has a much higher tensile strength and would have made that weld much stronger...

Is your boom cable twisted up or something? Everytime you picked the bucket up it spins like a merry go round. Nice fix, lot's of welding.
I’m not sure what was going on. Anytime you put a heavish load on it. It twists. I’m not sure what’s going on but I do need to fix that.
It's the twist coming out of the cable under load. If your swivel hook is working, it shouldn't be that bad. Maybe your swivel needs to be greased?

That was a 1/8” 6010 5p+ pipe liner rod.

That looks much easier than it is trust me
Man that was a nice bucket except for the one ear not alot of patching i would of used a portapower and heat now thay have a usable hacked up bucket.
I would like to see you remove a bend and twist with a portapower.
