If an Icom radio is not receiving, generally is due to: wrong frequency, bad speaker (check by turning Sqealch down to 0), bad antenna (check local WX or ATIS channels), water damage/corrosion, bad IF filter. Take it to a local radio shop
You must hold a restricted radio operator certificate in Canada. I cannot say anything about the regulations in other countries. Likely it is illegal to transmit on a frequency that the user is not authorized to use.
@@CuriousSoulCanada Yes, plus you also need to be in an Aircraft to be able to transmit, unless it's an emergency. These are Professional Grade Radios and do not belong in the hands of someone who doesn't have an Aeronautical Radio License. Icom makes fantastic Radios. I bought a Yaesu Airband Transceiver though.
