Very clear and informative. Prior to your video I was definitely confused about the Holy Roman Empire. Now I understand better. Thank you for making this video!
It is a double-headed eagle (Doppeladler), adopted in the 15th and 16th centuries. The symbol has been widely used, particularly in European heraldry. It started to be used in Freemasonry in the 18th century.
The vid is nice but I just can't stand one bit of it: "Byzantines were not happy because they were the real Roman emperors although by that time they had no more to do with Rome than the Holy Roman Empire, later would." ... what? A) Eastern Roman Empire controled Rome until 8th century (with varrying amounts of things happening but the fact stands) B) The state called the Roman Empire =/= the original city of Rome at this point in time (even during the days of WRE the capital already switched to other places within Italy and when it comes to ERE, then Constantinople was literally founded under the name Nova Roma and was the capital of Roman Empire while it was still united)
Some fair points, but if people are going to criticize the German-speaking Holy Roman Empire for not being Roman, it seems fair to point out that the Greek-speaking Roman Empire based in Constantinople suffered the same basic deficiency.
this was really interesting, thanks mate
