"as someone who doesn't play this game, this looks unreadable" maybe because you're not experienced? here's a personal anecdote, when i first saw adofai, i couldn't comprehend how to read it at all. why? because i wasn't experienced. but when i got the game, and got better over time, those hard charts i couldn't read at all suddenly looked readable to me. y'all saying "this looks unreadable" is only because you're not experienced in modcharts like these naturally, it'll become a lot more readable once you get more experience
As a Osu Mania player, i agree. I first went full force on Osu by June, i was very mediocre at the time, the only base of Mania i had was FNF. If i looked to Galaxy Collapse i probably would say "that's fcking impossible." 6 months later, much better now and going on 3 stars maps, i can actually read the Galaxy Collapse chart now, but "read" and "hit" are very different things lol Is all about experience.
How can anyone learn the charts of these games?? Do you just practice using other games with the same chart? Because if not, my mind can’t understand how.
2 years late but since nobody replied, if it hasnt been explained: theres many ways that notitg (or i guess itg in this instance) plays it tricks so modcharters can remove as much from the screen as possible. Its pretty cool actually! 1. The timing of every arrow is color coded! Red is onbeat, Blue is offbeat, etc etc, this means the gap between each arrow no matter how far or short practically doesnt matter! The easiest example of this is that if you see a bunch of incoming red and blue arrows consecutively you'll know you need to tap every half beat, not matter how much on the screen there is. *This means all you need to care about is if one arrow is ahead of the other one* 2. The playfields arrow position of doesn't really need to be arranged that way right? the incoming arrows themselves tell you which key to press! So in that case, modcharters can flip them around, move them, seperate them, whatever, it all comes to getting used to NOT associating keypresses to the regular positions, but the incoming notes themselves. 3. Since notitg derives from a real arcade machine, all gameplay in notitg is usually for the feet! This makes it predictable in a good way, as there are some patterns that are common because they are meant to be played with alternating footsteps. Some modcharters take advantage of this by sometimes removing the visual of 1 single arrow entirely so you can deduct which arrow to press by instinct depending on how the whole pattern looks Theres definitely more, and readability comes with practice, but these are the general biggest things that make modcharts readable i think
the arrows point in a direction. thats how u know what key it is. and also, snap coloring is tells you what type of note it is. aka 4ths 8ths etc. once u get that down just keep practicing modcharts until u kinda get used to reallyyyyy paying attention to the notes and can read better
Fnf player here, I downladed NotITG just for this, and I can say this: the chart is NOT unreadable. You just aren't used to modcharts. Some parts of the chart are actually somewhat easy. I jumped into this with barely any experience with modcharts and although I still failed, I was able to read most of the chart and i got a better score than i expected. If I get enough practice, Im sure I can beat the chart. anyway really fun game, can't wait for more
for a moment, i was about to call you several bad things i then reread your comment and got clarification on what you said i thought you said this was unreadable and then started speaking second person, but thank GOD finally someone that gets this really isn't that hard at all, even if you play fnf
Just to reiterate I do deeply appreciate how hard this would be to create, and that it's a fun video! And for the audience the chart is designed for, I bet it's fun as hell. 10/10 review on that front! I just also think charts like this being defended as 'readable' is indicative of a culture of a twisted sense for what's actually approachable design. I'm still mad that basically no user-made charts on Rhythm Doctor are actually playable to a casual player.
im not an notitg played, but an fnf player _AND I STILL FIND THIS UNREADABLE AFTER BEATING ALMOST EVERY SINGLE MOD ON GAMEBANANA(hellclown and expurgation included)_ edit: i now play notitg and its kind of readable
I mean, that one comment that's talking about "This is Unreadable", it's because you've never experienced this game. But if you play it (in this game NotITG) for like 2 - 4 months or so, you'll get used to it. People ALWAYS recommend starting from Easy to Hard if you wanna experience the modcharts. If you had motion sickness, why would you play it lmao.
I mean sure, I guess if you spend months of your life playing charts designed for a weird in-group you gain a warped sense of game design. This chart might not be unreadable to the people who regularly play, but that doesn't make it a good chart for playing except by the few who have learned to read the unreadable. This is visually delightful to watch, though, and knowing this was done in the engine of an actual game makes it further impressive! And a fun song, too. So like. I guess it doesn't matter that it's completely impenetrable to casual players.
"Yeah, the last level of a game might be fun for people who played through all of it, but is it really that fun for beginners who just hacked the game to have all levels immediately unlocked?"
the mods (and shaders) in notITG are programmed very intentionally and specifically to go with a song and the charting. whereas the "mods" used in stuff like dave and bambi (which i haven't played, but have seen, i lost interest in fnf quite a long time ago but have been playing rhythm games long before it) are just, arrows move around a bit and it's "harder" to read. there's nothing really put into it like people do for charts in notITG, even if it could be possible in fnf.
This one actually took me two years to finish lol. But this is only because of motivation swings, and other projects on the side. In term of actual work hours.. I'd say it took me 100 hours to finish this!

This is called sight reading! Experienced players are only allowed to play these types of maps. Challenge yourself if you dare.

it isn't a sightread after the first time
