I wish you a quick and full recovery. Don't feel pressured to release videos if you're not feeling well enough to enjoy recording them. We'll be here for you 😉
Think of Butterfly 3000 as a sequel album to Polygondwanaland disguised as a chill record. It's very prog-heavy and filled with polyrhythms. Also, like Poly, you get a much greater appreciation when you listen to the whole album rather than single tracks as it's greater than the sum of its parts.
@@Sketchykillz96 No I'm pretty sure that it is also true for the last song, just listen to the lyrics. I guess it also applies to this first song and I forgot.
Glad you're back! Hope evertything goed well for you If you do Shanghai, you should definetively do a studio vs live, they change it a lot from one version to another
Glad you're starting to feel better! Really missed ya! This track is nice, a bit on the simple side, but it shows you what you're in for. Lots of this album was inspired by Stu becoming a father, he had a daughter during the pandemic (he also recently had a son!) As a result this album is very bright and happy sounding, but there are a few dark moments, most of them don't last very long though. I'm predicting Blue Morpho, Interior People and Black Hot Soup are gonne be your favorites. Butterfly 3000 (often shortened to B3K) is simultaneously a fairly accessible album for King Gizz and a spiritual successor to Polygondwanaland. There's a lot of weird time signatures (mainly in the melodies), polyhythms and polymeters. It was the first full King Gizzard album I had my girlfriend listen to, and she thought it was just alright. She makes electronic music and recognises lots of the synth sounds they used, and she's not a big fan of pop. There were a few moments she liked and a few she thought were kinda meh, but ultimately she thought it was nice. Next up is Shanghai, the most popular song from the album on Spotify and the only song from it they've played live, though they don't do very much with it.
@@kyles5513 I think I judt have a bad memory honestly. I watched at least one of those performances (if not both) and loved it, but when I remember it all I remember is them going into double time, throwing some new vocal lines in and messing with the synth knobs. I'm not sure why that's all I remember.
Glad you're back and recovering! Keep in mind that this album was made mostly online. Lots of synths and midi plugged into ableton. The next song is a masterclass in songwriting imho, from the structure of the melody to the fact that Stu can sing and play simultaneously in different time signatures (watch Shanghai live). This album is full of polyrhythms and meter changes. The next track starts in 19/8 or some other crazy time signature. Despite the weird time signatures some tracks don't even have actual drums or bass, since Australia went into in strict lockdowns so the band couldn't get their studio setups (plus, they moved the gizz headquarters between lockdowns, and had to remodel and let the police raid the place because the previous owner went to jail for drug and arms trafficking lmao).
Looooove this album. It's one of my favorites to play in the summer. Think you're really gonna dig some of these tracks. Hope your recovery is going well!
Fun fact: a few of the songs on this album were originally for a follow up to polygondwanaland (which I would still love to see btw). Those songs are ya love, black hot soup and Shanghai.
Glad to see you back, and hope everything goes well with recovery. I really missed watching your VIDEOS. Butterfly 3000 is an awesome album, but it has a few songs in which I'm not a big fan. Some of the tracks that I didn't initially like have grown on me, and I can appreciate them for their creativity and instrumentation. Some of these songs are incredibly good. I'm sure you'll like some a lot, and some not so much, but that's King Gizzard for you. 🤘🐊
Glad you’re getting back into it and feeling better, brother! Get as much rest as you can, concussions are a bitch. (Can’t imagine the backdrop LEDs are doing you too many favors lmao)
Sorry to hear about your concussion. It took me a few months to get back to normal when I had mine. Take your time, plenty of life to live but these few weeks will certainly blow.
This album is great. Some pop stuff, some crazy stuff. Each song is built off of a melody line from a sequencer that doesn’t fit the time signature. Maybe it’s 9 beats in the melody but the song is 4/4. I think it makes the songs have a polyrhythmic feel. Shanghai is by far the most obvious example so I’m curious if you’ll notice it while you “experience” the visual
Just think of this album as a synth dream pop version of nonagon infinity. Where each track builds on eachother and leads very well into the next track.
This album is pretty dreampop-ish, but there's a lot of polyrhythms and stuff going on if you feel like something's off kilter. I like to compare this album to rat's nest, in relation to petrodragonic with this album and silver cord.
I hope you get to feeling yourself again soon. I feel like Yours is one of the weaker songs on the album - it's a good opener but not a highlight, and almost needs to be paired with the next song, Shanghai. Maybe consider playing the outro for Yours again, when you do Shanghai?
I listened to this album once when it came out. Couldn't get into it. Left it months before randomly deciding fuck it, I'll give it another go. Instantly clicked that time for some reason! It's an album that sorta reveals itself more as it goes, which probably makes absolutely fuck all sense 😅 It's guid yer shoes are still on. But like I said on my other comment, don't undo yer progress for the sake of UA-cam, as frustrating as it is to not do any of it. Take the time to rest up when you need it, not when yer YT schedule says you can. Concussions are a cunt

I think it should be mentioned this song was written for Stu's daughter who was born before the album came out. Feel better!
Wasn't that the last song?
