    Hey Ashley 😊. We're a one income, one car, family too! Great tips and encouragement 👍🏻. Its so sad the stigma of low income has to be so negative. I came from a low income family and have mostly been a low income family my whole marriage as well. I agree that its ok to use the benefits that are available if we qualify. I also agree that people need to see the bigger picture of why everyone isn't able to hold a steady job. I've held many jobs in my life but once I became a mother I found it very difficult to work. So for the most part I've not really worked outside the home for 13 yrs now. And yes mental helath / disability is very hard to hold a job. There is a season for everything. Thanks for sharing your tips ❤

    • @herhomemakingheart
      @herhomemakingheart  5 днів тому +3

      @built_to_serve Yes, so true about the stigma. Many families I know are happy on one income, most are choosing that, even in today's tough economy. It's a blessing & a luxury to be able to, and still have our daily needs met! I agree, it is very hard to work outside of the home as a mother. One parent at least has to be more available, otherwise it is basically after-school programs & daycare, and it's a lot of time outside of the home for everyone which can be more stressful & overwhelming for everyone, and sometimes not even worth it.
      Thanks for watching friend 💞

    We’ve been budgeting every single dollar and I tell you it’s so helpful when on a lower income. We’ve cut back in so many ways. We cut out fast food completely and only eat at home. That has helped so much!

      Thematic offers free music. You just have to put their link in your description box. I cut out epidemic along time ago because of the cost. I miss it at times, but I’ve been able to find a good selection on thematic.

    Loving this video! Thank you for your tips. My family lives on one income. We only have one car. I homeschool our kids. We dont really follow a curriculum because the curriculum are so much money. Next year my friend gave me her 1st grade teacher book. So i will be ordering a first grade book. For my daughter. Food prices are Nuts!!!!! Everything is expensive.

      You are very welcome! 💞 I don't blame you for not following a curriculum they definitely can be pricey. When we homeschooled the first two years ago, I remember feeling like I had to spend a fortune because of comparing to what others are doing, but there are so many free resources you can print etc. Do you know about Easy Peasy? I have a video about it on my channel. It's a free curriculum online!

    Low income due to chronic illness here!
    I have gotten really good at finding what I need for the least amount of money possible. I only buy certain things when they are on sale, and if I need something and can't wait for a sale, I shop around. I also use "buy now lay next month" type options, but only if they don't add extra cost (like interest). I use my items and clothing until they break, and try to repair what I can. I use one streaming service at a time(we don't have cable or watch network). When I really want something, I try to give it at least a couple days to see if I still want it, in case it was just a dopamine rush or short term excitement. I save some money every month upfront, and if I have anything left after each month, I put it to savings also. This way I have some emergency funds for dentist and whatnot.

      Hey! These are really solid tips! Thank you for sharing them. It's so true about waiting a few days to see if you really want something. I love that rule of thumb. Amazing tips my friend!! Cutting back is so worth mentioning and DOING! We have worked really hard to manage and watch our finances, to get out of debt and are now working on living on one income so I can be home with the kids. Purchasing things with intention well said!

    We also gave up cable tv. We are currently using UA-cam TV and it's super cheap and we get to watch everything we like.
    I had to stop paying for Amazon prime because it was getting too costly for our budget.
    Your house always looks so comfortable and pleasing to the eyes ❤️🤗
    I prefer videos without music 😊

      @carolO22 Giving up cable was such a wise move for us too. I regret not doing it sooner, we were barely even using it. Such a waste of money. I use Amazon Prime very often so it makes sense for me, but if you don't use Amazon a lot it definitely is unnecessarily costly! 😰 Thank you sister, I really appreciate your kind words!! Even though my home is an older house, it still feels like a cozy little home to me. 💞 I'm starting to prefer no music too when I watch videos! your mitten on a stick reminds me of one I have😂 It is literally a cotton glove stuffed with fluff and sewn around a long wooden dowel! It was my grandma's but I have no idea where she got it.
    Regarding "just get a job"...I used to work full time and part time, and at once point I was the only one working while my husband finished his degree. We ultimately decided that me working was not worth the stress because my paycheque went to gas and take out food, since I wasn't able to keep up with my house work. For ME working and keeping house was not feasible so I stopped working and became a full time homemaker and homesteader.

    • @herhomemakingheart
      @herhomemakingheart  6 днів тому +1

      Good morning, Christina!
      Oh, that is super neat that your grandmother had a similar contraption, lol!!! It worked well, I think it could have worked better but these are "popcorn/textured" walls here in my living room, I'm not sure who on earth decided that was a good idea lol! They collect so much dust, but they look cool!
      Yes, it's not always feasible. Sometimes, the cost isn't worth the toll it can take on your home, mental health, finances, and more. For me I'd have to pay child care for 3 children, because the ability to find a job without the school hours is nearly impossible! A lot of companies want flexibility, which is understandable but just doesn't work for everyone. They have to do what works for them. It's okay. There are plenty of ways to live a happy life on a single income! If anything, it teaches us how to manage our money better.

  • @mollydeckman

    Such a blessing you guys are able to use the food bank. I don’t think I ever thought that was an option back when I was living alone and barely had any money to buy groceries. We’ve been cutting out some of our streaming services. I forgot to cancel one this past week as planned oops! So I need to do that. We are actually going to cancel Disney because they keep increasing the price.
    Wow is epidemic sound really $25? I think mine is $18. But I guess the costs are different between the USA and Canada.
    Eating out several times a month is something we are so bad about or ordering door dash. Now luckily I have our budget figured out with buffers in case we go over! So so glad I finally figured out how to make our budget work so well for us we are no longer living paycheck to paycheck! Hoping to make a video series about that next year because I want everyone to have that freedom so bad!
    That was a great idea using your broom stick with your Norwex duster!
    After working remotely now for over 7 years and my kids are so young it makes me not want to go back into an office. For me it is so much better to be at home even if I’m working. Doing so allows me to take care of the kids as I need to, and I’m so grateful my job let’s me 😊❤

    I'm in low income housing. I'm on disability. I bet you could get free clothing at a church that has a free clothing closet. I get most of my clothing at the clothing closet. I used to volunteer there. I have another couple tips: keep the heat at 66 degrees in the winter, just layer up. Get Lliheap. (Or what your state calls it.) You can get free heat throughout the winter. And there is rent rebate if you rent your home. I got 500 dollars last year from rent rebate, I paid off my cat's credit card. (I can not afford her vet care without it.) And unless you can not afford medical care for your family or animals, don't get a credit card. But i find that the vet card keeps my cat healthy. Also, shop end of season sales, and get a size bigger for your kids, and the clothing will fit them the next year. My sister does that. There's nothing wrong with Suave. And keeping longer hair is a big help because a pixie requires a trim every month. I'm growing out my pixie, I don't have 25 dollars every month for my haircut.
    Just some helpful tips.

    Hoping one day our channels will pop off and we can make money. I really wanna start doing more to get sponsorships, i just never know where to start 🙃

      Sponsorships would be the dream! 💞 I love a few of the companies I've had the privilege to work with! I worked with one Comfelie that I really enjoyed. I didn't make money from that, but they were so generous in what they sent.💞 It would be super cool to do that more!

    Things are getting more and more expensive. Plus my husband's work was in strike for 6 months last year. Not his department but it still affected him not being able to work and having to be on EI which is barely enough to cover mortgage.

    • @herhomemakingheart
      @herhomemakingheart  5 днів тому

      Yes, EI is a pay cut for sure! What is it now like 55% of your original wage? I think that's what it is in Ontario but maybe I'm wrong. They don't make it easy. I hope things are looking up for you guys. 🙏 💞

    How do you function on one vehicle? We homeschool but i do take my daughter on field trips or meet with other homeschoolers regularly and too far to walk. Plus she has a couple of extra curriculars in the afternoon where I need to drive her.

    • @herhomemakingheart
      @herhomemakingheart  5 днів тому

      Like anything else, you learn to work around it and manage. It's a sacrifice like anything with else. Now, if I had a vehicle where there were no car payments and just insurance and the upkeep it might be manageable, but to add a car payment yeah no that wouldn't be affordable at this time. Yes, homeschooling without a vehicle is more difficult. That's one reason that school works better for us, too. The homeschooling meet ups are out of range for me most of the time, but I know some homeschoolers who make it work. It's just what works best for your family really.

    Epidemic sounds is great but I don’t use it anymore. I use free Thematic that is very annoying and they still want $ for better songs. I hope you will get monetized soon because you are really trying and it shows ! But you will make very little like 20$ a month - based on your current views. In month of July when I wasn’t UA-cam lazy I made 15$ haha. Coffee money as I like to call it :)

      Hey Ewa! Yes, I've noticed that the selection is limited. I honestly don't even mind not having music really! I find it overstimulating sometimes & some others have told me that too, but maybe I will look into those for the times I do use it here & there. I hope so too! I know what you mean, I don't anticipate to make a lot at all lol! I have an Etsy store too, and even that can be very hard to earn anything on, due to taxes, fees etc lol! But I'd be happy to at least have the potential to earn a little bit! Another friend said the same, coffee money! 🤣💞 thank you for watching friend & for your kind words.
