Rob Cohen says that Steve trained Jason Scott Lee for seven weeks for the Dragon screentest : ua-cam.com/video/EiwHDN4zazU/v-deo.html JSL was in the same shape as he was for the actual movie. Growing up, he was an avid surfer and gymnast which would have got him most of the way to his Dragon physique.
QUESTIONS FOR STEVEN + COMMENTS!!. I just finished the Chapter on Dragon: Bruce Lee Story. 1st let me say, I totally respect Steven's feelings of disappointments on the fight choreography in the film since he wasn't involved in that part. My question for Steven is If he remained involved, What would he had done differently with the fights and the choreography ??? I felt the uplifting musical score, the acting and the drama and the way Rob Cohen filmed the movie was so great that it offsets whatever short comings the fights may have had. Jason's impression of Bruce, his intensity, his acting and his emotion in the fights really sell the fights and make them work and it looks intense and believable, for example the stretching scene before the fight with the challenge match with Johnny Sun is really cool. but the message of the film "fight for you dreams" "don't give up" "family means everything" and the theme of overcoming adversity and overcoming racism is present in the film. the film is an EPIC drama. Dragon felt like a Bruce Lee Movie starring Bruce Lee himself except the story is Bruce's real life and not a fictional story, but it is kinda fictional and highly inaccurate too! How did Linda Lee REALLY feel about the film??? I read Linda 'liked' it and said positive things about it but was she just being nice ??? How did Steven feel about Bruce Lee's portrayal in the Taratino film "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" ??? SIDE NOTE: I'm sad to know the Lauren Holly is really a WITCH in real life. Some part of me wanted to believe all these years that Lauren is really the nice, friendly, loving, loyal, & caring woman she plays in the film. Wow!!! She-Devil is appropriate for her. What a shocker!!!
Yes Dragon the Bruce Lee story was a great watch. I thought at the time it also showed just how discrimination there was at the time. Jason Scott Lee also went to a Shaolin temple to train for real. There is a vid somewhere on UA-cam.
@@VikingSamurai Being from the UK I expect it was slightly different in my mind, I didn’t really expect to see the racial side of things in the film. I didn’t quite understand it, but soon realised the gravity of the issue portrayed in the film.
This guy just said after the first test screening that it was not enough and Linda Lee brought in 5 of Bruce Lee students. Which there was no belt system by the way. Well obviously they were the ones to put Jason into the right stage for the role.
And he certainly didn't use peds in my opinion as he already had the frame and muscle. He just leaned up and I imagine his cardio and lifting increased alot. He's very low bodyfat in the film. In the film soldier he looked even bigger but that was just more fat I believe as he loses his veiny graininess in that film. Looked amazing in jungle book to
Hi, bro can't get any notifications from youtube anymore. Anyways, this was brilliant seeking out after this great man. Keep going. Much Respect from a North African aka Moroccan.
I could only imagine Jason scot lee couldn't get any good roles after the bruce lee movie. He got stereotyped like after that movie, i think he had a role with kurt russel shortly after
whats steves problem? he was a major player in all action movies,he had a job that most of us always dream of he got paid AND got recognition, what did he want the stars to do? kiss his feet?
he's just trying to sell his book. You can tell he's making some shit up when he's asked some questions he seems like he can't remember exactly & pauses while he invents some tales imo. I'm sure there's some truth to his stories but hey why let the truth get in the way of a good yarn.
Dragon The Bruce Lee Story is one of my favorite movies of all time. Back in the day I used to not only watch it all the time, but I would often just put it on in the background while I was doing whatever or while me and some buddies were hanging out, so it was like the score for a lot of good times.
It's kind of self evident that behind the scene, there's a trainer, or these actors wouldn't have been able to pull of their action roles. I am not sure if they deliberately did not acknowledge the trainers or they just didn't think of mentioning them in interviews.
I think Jason Scott Lee was natural in that movie too. As for other actors, these days they pretty much all have to sign non-disclosure agreements before going on a program that involves taking PEDs, so they couldn't talk publicly about it even if they wanted to.
Its very interesting part of interview. Thanks you,Viking for this.We allways watch movie, and don.t think, how it was shoot, how actors training, how they shoot fighting scenes.I think now,it very interesting to know about knife fightung like the final fight in Under Siedge or sword fight in Blind Fury, or final fight on Best of the best 2.Because this fight was using a nun chacks, and iron pipes
I'm really not sure what happened, but UA-cam is not showing my comments. Maybe it's just something on my end. Anyways, you know I like speaking with you. Hope you're able to see this particular comment. Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is a cool film, that I watched when I was a kid. These segments of this interview are really cool and I hope there is much more around the corner. TERRANCE OUT
Can I ask who were the five Bruce Lee students who helped with the film? Also, just wondering, why was Jerry Poteet a dud? Just found your channel and I really enjoy reminiscing about the old 80's and 90's action flicks. Not made like that anymore. Have a great Thanksgiving.
🙌 another fantastic video. I’ve asked my mother in law to get me Steven’s book for my birthday next month. Can i ask..what are the Bruce,Chuck and Jean Claude things behind you?
Oh, boy. "I just don't get the credit I deserve, why don't they give me credit? He was a 98 lb weakling before I got a hold on him ... ". With all due respect, I think genetics my have been a contributing factor, too. Did you see Jason Scott Lee in that latest live action version of Mulan? Almost 30 years after Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story Jason's physique still looks great, it looked great in the Time Cop sequel, in The Jungle Book, which of his films did he look bad in? As for Jerry Poteet, I haven't read Mr. Lambert's book, don't know how Mr. Poteet made a negative impression on him, I met Mr. Poteet once, trained with a student of his a few times, but, regardless of what Steve or I think of Jerry, Jason apparently was impressed enough with Jerry to continue training with him long after Dragon came & went. It's starting to sound like Mr. Lambert is trying to take more credit for things than he (& he alone!) might deserve. I mean, Jason trained with more than one person for the Bruce Lee role (including James Lew & Mr. Poteet), right? No one else contributed anything?
Jason trained with a lot, Lambert brought 5 people aboard who knew and trained with Bruce, including Poteet, Bob Wall, etc... But according to Lambert, Poteet ended up getting all the other guys ousted, so he at the very least made a good impression on Jason Scott Lee... But Lambert was involved for months before anyone else, and it was his idea to get the others involved bc they actually knew and trained with Bruce.
Woooow. Steven is legit!!! great job on this Viking. I have to BUY Steven's book now. Tell Steven I'm ordering a copy of his book on amazon right now. holly crap!!! So Steven is the one who got him ready for that screen test. Jason Scott Lee had a LEGENDARY physique in that film. I recall Jason being labeled as a sex symbol in magazines back then. It was his 'BEST' film he ever did and most memorable one too. What a shame!!! But yes it's called ego. Other people taking credit for his work. Daaaamn...the 'Behind the scenes' mini documentary on the Dragon film is online and that Jerry guy got all the credit. They even brought Jerry back to work with Jason on that Time Cop sequel and I recall seeing a behind the scenes video with Jerry geting credit 'again' for working with Jason on the choreography. DAAAAMN. Hollywood Politics is a bitch. Steven Lambert is a true legit guy. I totally respect him now. The Quest, Dragon Bruce Lee Story. - he's done it all.
Could you get Steve Lambert back for a video on Michael Dudikoff (American Ninja) and his relationship with him. Also can you do a video on Sho Kosugi with Steven Lambert. Many thanks
@@VikingSamurai Would love to know what Steven Lambert thought of the fight choreography in American Ninja 2 as he wasn't involved in the second film but Mike Stone had choreographed it and he was Elvis Presley teacher in Karate.

This guy is a clown. Jerry Poteet was recommended by Linda over all of the others. Jason was certified under Jerry Poteet and remains friends with Jerry’s wife to this day. I study with a direct student of Jerry’s who has worked out with Jason on multiple occasions, and has many stories about Jason and Jerry. Nobody knew Bruce the fighter and JKD like Jerry. That’s why Linda chose him.
I think Dragon the Bruce lee story is the best adaptation of Bruce lee life Linda and Shannon they both said it was the best Brandon was offered the role of Bruce he turned it down he said he did not want to do that and he kinda knows he was offered the role cause he was his son he saw right threw that. Jerry potete I remember seeing that on the DVD behind the scence he was known as Bruce student and he got credit for training and teaching Jason for the role. He was doing a demonstration on the wooden Dummy Jerry that is. I guess like so many other he was not who he claimed to be its the HW thing that false narrative and alot of those actors, producers, and directors are insecure the real people don't get the credit for anything every one wants to be a star and say look at me it was me. Danny Isanto who was a real student of Bruce like a brother said over the years people who did come across Bruce in Training or work he showed alot of people alot of things they dont want to give Bruce the credit they said it was all them. Shannon said the same thing but she says the real people who was Bruce real friends no he was the real deal and give him credit for teaching them and showing them things
Wtf are you talking about? This movie sucks in all ways, Bruces back injury was from training with barbell as he leaned forward with weight, not from kick of his oponent like it was in this trash movie, all those fights he had was overchoreographed, there was no Bruces reall JKD esence of simple realistic fight, and also doesnt matter how ripped JSL was it was just imposible to see him as Bruce, there was no charisma, no that kind of confident, it just total inaccurate bullshit movie.

I loved this movie. Definitely in need of a rewatch.
Jason was great in that film. Great actor
Rob Cohen says that Steve trained Jason Scott Lee for seven weeks for the Dragon screentest :
ua-cam.com/video/EiwHDN4zazU/v-deo.html
JSL was in the same shape as he was for the actual movie.
My question for Steven is
If he remained involved, What would he had done differently with the fights and the choreography ???
I am so glad I have found this channel! GREAT STUFF!!
Saw it in the theaters also... it was epic!
.. I've been waiting for this one - check him out in SOLDIER - Both Jason Scott Lee and Kurt Russell got in phenomenal shape..!!
You know what for all the crap dragon the Bruce lee story gets. I love this movie!
Yes Dragon the Bruce Lee story was a great watch. I thought at the time it also showed just how discrimination there was at the time. Jason Scott Lee also went to a Shaolin temple to train for real. There is a vid somewhere on UA-cam.
Pretty bad discrimination, I remember leaving the theater as a kid peeved about that.
Looked amazing in jungle book to
So much great content from this interview.
This guy is full of it. Jason was already fit before this movie. Look at his physique in Rapa Nui
Hi, bro can't get any notifications from youtube anymore. Anyways, this was brilliant seeking out after this great man. Keep going. Much Respect from a North African aka Moroccan.
Get Jason on get his side.
I bought the book and it's awesome! Glad you talked to Steven
9 minutes in, and he STILL hasn't answered the original question, but instead, cries about how he gets no mentions or credits.... Move on...
This was definitely one of my favorite movies growing up im a die hard fan hell bruce is the reason why i love nunchucks
I could only imagine Jason scot lee couldn't get any good roles after the bruce lee movie. He got stereotyped like after that movie, i think he had a role with kurt russel shortly after
Yep in the movie Soldier, nice movie btw, I think it was set in the same universe as blade runner
Don't forget rapanui a great movie.
Jungle book
whats steves problem? he was a major player in all action movies,he had a job that most of us always dream of he got paid AND got recognition, what did he want the stars to do? kiss his feet?
I agree, the more I see of this guy. The more arrogant he comes off.
he's just trying to sell his book. You can tell he's making some shit up when he's asked some questions he seems like he can't remember exactly & pauses while he invents some tales imo. I'm sure there's some truth to his stories but hey why let the truth get in the way of a good yarn.
@@johnlawrence8007 Yeah, I think he is a fibber.
Makes sense, just no incentive in it for them to be honest about that stuff in general too.
That movie is fantastic. Like just a really good movie regardless of how much was factual lol
Jason scott lee said his entire life he wanted to live in the Shaolin Temple and train... He lasted like a week hahaha
I really hope you get a commission off the books Mr Lambert is selling now because you got us sold!
More often than not, true heroes remain anonymous; their names unknown to the majority. But their impact resonates beyond comprehension.
Its very interesting part of interview. Thanks you,Viking for this.We allways watch movie, and don.t think, how it was shoot, how actors training, how they shoot fighting scenes.I think now,it very interesting to know about knife fightung like the final fight in Under Siedge or sword fight in Blind Fury, or final fight on Best of the best 2.Because this fight was using a nun chacks, and iron pipes
what is the Jerry Poteet story?? i looked him up and he seems legit. what is the history there??
My favorite Bio Pic film of all time tbh bro, keep up to great work sir👌👍
I'm really not sure what happened, but UA-cam is not showing my comments. Maybe it's just something on my end. Anyways, you know I like speaking with you. Hope you're able to see this particular comment. Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is a cool film, that I watched when I was a kid. These segments of this interview are really cool and I hope there is much more around the corner.
TERRANCE OUT
I see your comments Terrance, always appreciate them!
Interesting series you and Stephen Lambert have here👍🏿
🙌 another fantastic video. I’ve asked my mother in law to get me Steven’s book for my birthday next month.
Can i ask..what are the Bruce,Chuck and Jean Claude things behind you?
Martial Arts Masters series of books.
@@VikingSamurai thx for replying 🙏 my mother in law “has” ordered me Steven Lamberts book. So good reading ahead
U r a legend for this channel mate! Sub well earned
I’m here!
Nice vid I love the interviews could you maybe make a short vid on how to kick like van damme also almost 30k congrats
I hope we get to the SOLDIER with Kurt Russell vs JASON SCOTT LEE... I was really impressed with Kurt Russell build...
Good movie
One of my best films todate
What I noticed from being a martial artist myself, we all have a big ego.
So steven got to meet Linda Lee, did he get to meet Brandon also? I'm looking forward to getting this book, I'd say its amazing 💪
Yes he worked with Brandon on Kung fu the next generation 1987
Could you get Steve Lambert back for a video on Michael Dudikoff (American Ninja) and his relationship with him. Also can you do a video on Sho Kosugi with Steven Lambert. Many thanks
Definitely!
@@VikingSamurai Would love to know what Steven Lambert thought of the fight choreography in American Ninja 2 as he wasn't involved in the second film but Mike Stone had choreographed it and he was Elvis Presley teacher in Karate.
@@mattk5020
Not Elvis Presley’s teacher !
I think he was the teacher of Priscilla Presley, he take Elvis wife.
Elvis was not amused.
Elvis have payed his Bodyguards, to killed M.Stone, they denied.
New to the channel absolutely loving it 👌
This guy is a clown.
@@borisp9163 I no all that man it's s movie look at all the other bruce lee biopics over all these years. The ones with bruce li the look alikes they were so bad compared to them this is good. It's my opinion you have yours
Ok, I love training sequences in action movies that motivate me to workout. I think the training in the beginning of the movie soldier with Jason Scott Lee and kirt Russel was very cool. I would be interested in your thoughts about the movie and the training. Also I am from hawaii and I know the director had an issue with Jason and cut a bunch of his scenes. That was the local rumor anyway. Just curious if you know of anything
I need to revisit Soldier, have the DVD in my basement.
That would be cool! It’s an old one so there really was not any behind the scenes content available at the time. Kurt Russel was arguably in the best shape of his life and in his 40’s and Jason was a bit of a beast also. The running scene in the beginning when he passes Kurt is bada**. It would be fun to hear your insights on this.
Another winner.
I see this movie as a fun try to tell the Bruce Lee story but Hong Kong cinéma has made beter movies with beter Bruce Lee look a like. Its American made but not with the Bruce Lee heart. Respect for all martial artist but there is only Bruce Lee 🙏 OSU 🙏
Damn these stories are great!
This Steve Lambert needs more credit then he’s been given.
