I'm an industrial engineering student graduating next year and got really interested in the field of data. I've been researching data analytics and data science and trying to figure out which one I should focus on. While studying I currently work at a marketing agency and work with the analytics for Google ads, Facebook ads, and Google Analytics. Would you recommend me to focus on learning the data analytics part, or the data science part? I want to combine industrial engineering knowledge with data skills to really stand out in my career.
Hey Gabriel, good to hear from you and thanks for posting. Your background is very interesting and it seems that a data career would be a great fit. The combination of digital marketing knowledge and data analysis abilities can be a great fit and would make your profile valuable to a number of digital companies. I think the biggest question is which aspect of the work do you enjoy the most. Is it building and analyzing dashboards? Or perhaps working with large data sets and trying to uncover hidden patterns?
@@La_Maquina806 If thats the case then focus on the Analytics initially. I was an Industrial Engineer for almost a decade before making the switch to Data Scientist/Analyst (I'm lucky enough to do both). Although Data Scientist certainly have the knowledge and capability to build and analyze dashboards, their skill sets are usually focused in other aspects of the data pipeline. Data Analyst transition for me was almost seamless as I was already doing that job as an IE anyway
