This is possibly the most tragic csse you have covered yet its so heartbreaking knowing the extreme evil and torture that she was subjected to before her death
"I had no role in Anne's murder, I was only covering my cruel mother's crimes. I, too, am a victim in this situation", said Sally, the woman who struck a little girl on the head with a heel so she would wake up.
I normally have no issue with capital punishment when warranted. But to be fair, the daughter did not KILL her. And, if it wasn’t for her(although it was a tad bit self serving but there IS something to be said for what sounds like almost everyone within those 4 walls being abused by this woman-she sounds like she got desperate for her own beating to stop so she made this threat within earshot of someone), she is single handedly responsible for the actual murderer being brought to Justice after the system failed her, the milkman failed her and the coroner failed her. There is a queue of a few people in line in front of this daughter. To be fully fair.
@@NikkiUchihaI don't know about the laws back then or in England period but in the U.S. if a victim is killed during a crime that you helped commit like a bank robbery or burglary, you are held responsible as well even if you weren't the one who actually did the deed. That's how I see this case. That girl was a part of the whole thing that led to Anne's death.
@@NikkiUchiha You're only saying this because she's a young, beautiful white woman! If it were two men, and she (he) only helped, you wouldn't say anything!
Since Mrs. Sara Metyard carried out her threats with such force, all the apprentices were in mortal danger. No person with such cruel dispositions should oversee employment. Though society required such situations, a more humane setting should have prevailed. In the end justice was served, but the poor girl suffered terribly. Thank you B. C. for bringing history to life.
Another wonderful, gripping tale! I'm glad the evil mother and daughter were punished for their crimes. Unfortunately,, this kind of evil still exists today.
This is most definitely among the most heartbreaking story you've ever narrated. I am speechless of the brutality of these two women. They went 4 years without being punished. Such an horrible way to die and to be abused. May she rest in perfect peace
There are a few more 'interesting' details about this tragic case. The reason Mama Metyard disposed of Anne's hand in the fire is because one of Anne's fingers had been amputated after being pricked by a needle. As the Metyards refused to get it treated, the finger became septic. (Who performed the amputation, I don't know.) Mama Metyard feared the missing finger might identify the girl's remains. Sally Metyard finally left Mama's house due to ill-treatment and moved in with her boyfriend, Richard Rooker. Rooker overheard a heated conversation between Sally and her mother about Anne's death and it was he who reported it to the authorities. Not knowing the full details, he thought Sally was an innocent victim and would not be charged. Anne Naylor is featured in some haunted tales stories (not that I believe them). Anne's screams could be heard in the area for years after her death. These screams really spooked Metyard, which led her to turn to her daughter for help, leading to the conversation overheard by Rooker. Much later, after the neighbourhood had been largely demolished and replaced, the haunting screams shifted to Farringdon Tube station, which was built on the site where Anne's remains were dumped. Many tube travellers have reported hearing her screams.
What a typical example of class distinction. The poor were disposable. It would have been inconceivable for them to think that that poor child would be talked about over 200 years later. I think we would all have thought it probable for a man to be that cruel, but rare in women, especially mothers. Another great case BC highlighting the plight of poor Ann.
Agreed, you need to spend some more time on here, see how many horrors have been committed by women throughout history. The women who starved their niece to death and the woman who sold the poor children she was responsible for then murdered them are two that come to mind
These cases really deserve to be dramatized for TV. The stories are so sad and you do such a good job of explaining what life was like during the time.
Sadly these type of abuse and brutality continues throughout the world . A lot of children who are placed in foster care are often abused with the authorities not monitoring them to see if they are properly cared for.
When I was 9 I stayed in a caravan park. I made friends with a lovely black girl who had 2 white foster parents. She told me the man did things to her in the bathroom. I said it wasn't right and we had to tell somebody. She said...its okay..I'm used to it. I don't mind. I went and told my mother. Shevwas horrified but said nobody would believe us if we told the police. What I didn't know then was my own mother had been abused throughout her childhood. Nobody had believed her. Gladly there is help for vulnerable children. In most cases. Obviously not in Rochdale. Yes humans are capable of evil.
The more the story went on, the more I cried for poor Anne. And I got angrier at those two for treating her so horribly. And then nobody else even cared until it was discovered, only because the mother and daughter were fighting. I guess one good thing came out of it, though, the ones taking in apprentices were more closely watched after that.
Elizabeth Brownrigg and Esther Hibner also murdered apprentices through wanton cruelty after the Metyards, Brownrigg was just 5 years after the Metyards were hanged. Esther Hibner was pretty monstrous in the late 1820s.
Good morning, This case was truly tragic, because it involves a child who is innocent Just because someone has an upstanding reputation in the community doesn’t mean that they can escape justice. What they did to this poor young girl was sadistic. I’m so happy they were caught even though it was four years later. And of course they did what I kind of felt they would do, go against each other. This mother and daughter duo terrorized the apprentices that were working there and they did it because they could. Happy to know they were found out and poor little Anne received some justice. Rest in Peace Anne 🌺 Thank you, Mr. Brief Case The story was just so unsettling anything to do with a child or hurting a child it’s just not right or any human being . I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend and look forward to next Monday 🌺
Clearly it wasn't an apprentice program. It was slave labor. Slave labor at the time was still better than the workhouse if the position was humane. God gives the final judgment to these cruel monsters.

Mistreatment because you think you are better than a lowly apprentice . While they make you money... truly sad.
The past really did suck.
It is hard to understand why people can be so cruel to others less fortunate
I felt really sick hearing this case.
Hope all is good Briefy.
Here its cold and freezing outside.

Early Tuesday morning in NZ. Good morning all 😊
Morning!
Good Morning to you too, from Ontario, Canada
It was a very tragic case, but a positive outcome!
Poor baby. I saw Brief Cat over on The Crime Reel!
Another wonderful and informative video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
Yes I've heard this case before the injustices the poor girls had to go through were inhuman
I can imagine there are so many cases you can brief us about the poor treatment of people in the workhouse or even slave labor during this time.
Thank you so much I love these stories❤❤❤❤❤
Thankyou
@@BriefCaseOfficial you are very much appreciated🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
I absolutely hate people who target people that are less fortunate, challenged and is going through a rough patch. They and their coconspirator;,kids , friends and family members who use the excuse "i did it to please so and so because i was under duress". Kindess goes a long way.
