Her whistles notes are like Whitney's belting notes. Powerful.
Too bad your fave Céline never had whistlle register
@@thesunshines1460 Well, it’s just whistle. I’m more about how the singer can make the audience cry because of beautiful singing. 👍🏼
@@JohnDeLeon28 Then what are you doing here ? Lol Go on videos of singers who make the audience cry because of " beautiful singing " ! Lol
@@thesunshines1460 I’m here for Betty since I don’t know her and glad this video exists and now I’m a fan of hers. She has this powerful whistle. I think she’s the only singer to have this “Powerful” whistle note. Amazing. 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@@JohnDeLeon28 You're a fan ioif. Celine ! And you are insecure at. mariah's superiolrity over her, thjjat's why you troll over videos featuring Mariah to discredit her. That's why you don't seek for Betty Wright soloo video is but the ones having her vs Mariah .You're here to stalk Mariah and discredit her, like in other videos .You're an akward liar.
Betty has a very deep soulful sound. Makes her Whistles sound.....nice!!
My opinion
Those are some of the most powerful whistle notes ever.. She must of literally blew the roof off when she hit those things!
I think Minnie Riperton is the Mother Queen of whistle register in pop and contemporary music!!!
100%
Mariah Carey is the whistle
@@ThekingOfMonsters1954 no she's not...
@@LettingGo757The best one at it tho 🥶
@@ThekingOfMonsters1954
No 💀 she’s amazing but she isn’t the queen of whistle notes. Betty Wright and Minnie Ripperton are way better. She just used her nodules to do whistle notes.
R.I.P. Ms Betty Wright! :(
She is one of the queens. I dont understand why people want there to be only one. She is great at what she does. Minnie was excellent at what she does. Mariah is amazing at what she does. They all bring something to the table that the others dont. Minnie with her strong never-ending routines, Mariah with her acrobatic agilities, and Betty with her fierceness. Thanks to the pioneers we have a songbird supreme. Stop the hate. There is room for 3 queens. Lets call them the "Trinity". Ok? Only love for these 3 proud black women. We love them and truly respect them at their game.
You do realize that this woman has been singing since well before Mariah was even heard of right?
The fact is we're not aware. Sorry flop.
Mariah popularized whistle and made it mainstream
@@erpmo3326 lmao you mad?
Purr I love that but Mariah still the most known whistler even though I would say Betty is the best at power Mariah just has so many different flavors of whistle but this about Betty not mariah
Doesn't mean Mariah isn't the queen of it. She's has the best
girl yes I think there point is Mariah brought whistle to mainstream and desired in today's singers
Singer/divas from 70s-90s are much better and have powerful voices because back then, PROPER vocal techniques is so important, unlike to the new generation of singer (only most not all) that even they don't have proper technique but sounds good, they become a star unlike before. :)
It's not about who goes higher, it's all about who does it best. And that goes goes to Minnie Riperton!
Minnie Riperton, Rachelle Ferrell, Betty Wright & Lisa Fischer are all scalp snatchers
Thanks for sharing. Amazingly, she was not given credit and recognition for her range. She was known for her soul. ❤
R.I.P. Miss Betty Wright!!!🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤🌹🌹🌹
Betty is ine of the most talented woman in the industry! Minnie was the ground-breaker!!!
THE LIVE SHIT IS THE BEST!!! DAAAMMNN!
Miss Betty Wright's high notes are just very superior, out of this world, amazing,& awesome man.
Dang... I knew Ms. Betty could whistle but I didn't know she had it like that... Go head gurl. Betty, Mariah and Minnie IMO are the best...
Rest in Peace you beautiful iconic Queen, thee Betty Wright!
Whitney and Mariah had great voices, came from the same genre and had mass success among white and black audiences. They were both marketed as pop, adult contemporary and R&B singers that could appeal to a broad audience early in their careers. Perhaps their eurocentric looks help fuel their marketing potention, but again that is irrelevant in terms of talent (which nobody can deny). Neither of them are as great of singers as they used to be- for whatever reason, but they're icons nonetheless
That note in no pain was the best..love Betty
Very Underrated!!!!
Compared to other whistlers, Mariah Carey's voice and tone are more colorful, beautiful, and her music and melody are incredibly melodic and beautiful.
betty wright is the queen of powerful whistle. Mariah Carey is a the queen of beautiful whistle.
Why do we have to bring up Mariah?
Just to let you know, I'm squashing all of this race talk right now. Mariah is mixed (black and white). Everyone knows that and she's always said that. She's a great pop AND R&B singer and she is an icon. Whatever got her there, you can't deny her talent nor can anyone deny Betty, Shanice, Whitney and the others (Beyonce included). They are/were all great in their own way and race has nothing to do with it. Everyone has their own personal favorites and let's just leave it at that shall we!
both betty and mennie has strong whistles and something that is crazy in their voice but still i can only hear the whistle part but MC managed and merged the whistle with singing which is more beautiful and controller
wow! she really went high on 2:56 and 4:11 with no pain, no game. My grandma loves that song to death I tell you and on 4:29... wow. SHE IS THE FIRST WHISTLE QUEEN, AND MARIAH IS THE NEW WHISTLE QUEEN!!!!
Yes. She writes and produces a lot of music now. Most recently she's worked with R&B singers Angie Stone and Joss Stone (no relation).
One of the best!!!!!
You did a GREAT job putting this together. Thanks!
Mariah is the queen of the whistle register because she is always getting compared to others. Plus, Mariah's is a musical instrument and she executes her notes the best and never was a blatant show off.
Ssdggfd The reason why everyone is compared to Mariah is because she is a pop singer who became the most famous and commercially successful, largely due to how she blatantly showed off her whistle register (as a gimmick) on her first two albums. Not necessarily because she is the "best" at it (which is completely subjective anyway).
captainbryce1 A good example of a singer using her whistle register as a gimmick would be Chante Moore. Mariah's register is a musical instrument and she never over did it. Mariah always knew how and when to incorporate the notes. This doesn't change my point that Mariah has the greatest whistle register. All a person has to do, is listen to her.
Ssdggfd I agree with you about Chante Moore. Here's the thing though, Chante Moore is a whistle register singer who sounds the MOST like Mariah when she does it! Light, airy, and similar in tone. And Chante only really does it when she's remaking a Minnie Riperton song (she's done like 3 of them) or Deneice Williams. So it's clearly intended to show that she can sing like Minnie Riperton. Same thing with Shanice! In any case, when Mariah first came out, her whistle register was also a gimmick. Nearly every reviewer at the time thought so. She's had like 15 albums and has been out for 27 years, so obviously she's learned to use it more effectively and stylistically over the years. But she still does it on every album. Betty Wright did not. In fact, there is no whistle notes on most of her songs. She did it more live than she did on her albums. So it wasn't really a gimmick for her.
Yeah I suppose you're right. Nice comment, by the way.
@@captainbryce1 Why she did it more live so it wasn't a gimmick? It doesn't make sense
yes she's the QUEEN of the whistle register...i've got chills
I love to hear these ladies hit the whistle registers, they all have their own distinct sound regardless of who can go higher, they are all great singers!!!!!
To me out of all the singers with these amazing whistle registers, she and Rachell Ferrell have the most soulful voices.
She's amazing!!!
I love Betty, I always forget that she has that wonderful gift.
Minnie was def. the Queen and I'm not sure who is the reigning Queen because it is so many gifted singers that can really sang (that have that gift).
Mariah of course is the most popular but that doesn't make her the Queen of Whistle. Shanice is another person that to me can really just blow.
This year, on May 10, 2020, the world lost Betty Wright. She died at 66. She sang "the clean up woman", "no pain, no gain", "Tonight is the Night"...
She had a genius level IQ at 140.
Of course, she had this amazing whistle register range. She was very talented.
RIP LEGEND I LOVE YOU SO MUCH
all I can say is DANG!!!!! she can sing! :) no wonder my grandma likes her so much . ha. forreal my grandma do like her!!
My God. Now I'm big Mariah fan, and I'm not sure anyone has topped the versatlity and control of her whistle register, but these are the strongest, clearest whistles I've ever heard. And even better they fit her music far better than Mariah's. They actually come at the right points in the song musically, and actually feel essential to the music.
u should see Mariah's singing and talking in whistle notes with phrasing the words, and she can transform a chest register into a whistle register directly.
That last note stole & slayed my WHOLE life OMG Amazing CHILLS!!!
Oh my!!! That last whistle just gave me the shivers!!
She is my favorite to learn whistle notes from.
The song at 1:09 is called Say It Again which is posted on here. It came out around 1986 on her "Sevens" cd i think. The song as 3:22 is called Milk and Honey from her last cd titled Fit For A KIng. It came out in 2001. It's a real nice cd. I highly recommend it! The title song Fit For A King showcases her whistle register. The notes are so "high" they dont register on certain audio equipment.
Have u heard no pain live omg the best
There is a guy named Michael Speaks with a 7 octave range. He released a r&b cd in 95 called "No Equal" and later released a gospel cd around 2000 or 2001.
And Mariah has a perfect/excellent control over her whistle register
had**
BluestarBray has**
Kit Mash petty lmao
Whos talking about mariah?
@@divo9455 had.
Just because I put down my opinion does not mean that I'm hating. MOST of her whistle register sounds like screaming. It's just not as effortless as other whistle register's I have heard..such as Minnie Ripperton Etc.
wow she has a great vocal range and she hits the whistle notes so effortlessly.
For those wondering that is known as the whistle register, or more commonly, the whistle tone. The famous high note that artists like Minnie Ripperton, Betty Wright, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and Ariana Grande are known for.
betty's got #1 whistle if you ask me, due to her control and improvisation mastery with a range as low as deep bass through whistle. Aretha and Gladys can go pretty low, but Betty can sustain melodically in low registers.
1 in whistle? Lies! Bs!
@@erpmo3326 my opinion
Finally someone who knows what they're talking about! ;)
While each woman listed in this thread has their own style, Minnie is the leader of the pack....I love each of them differently
someone needs to make a full vocal range video for her.. loves her
Unsolicited Advice. It's off the Mother Wit album. All the songs are listed under more info.
Betty's whistles are definitely the strongest, but I don't find hers as pleasant to listen to. I enjoy the lighter ones like Mariah Carey. Though I prefer MC, they're both still amazing!
Same but Betty is only good for storng ones that sound like she's singing that high in her chest voice Mariah sings here in any way strong soft light heavy powerful riff&runs breathy and airy ascending notes I mean anything you can do with your regular voice she can do but Betty's just pick you up and throw you across the room
minnie riperton is the best i think
Shanice isn’t bad 🤷🏽♂️
I have seen her sustain it live and she has an amazing voice but I think Betty Wright is more technical and stronger and does it at eaze. But I salute them both...Hooah!!
I agree. I think that detroitpsalmst is saying that he prefers Minnie's style in that range more (although that just comes down to personal taste). I feel that Betty's WR is actually stronger (louder) in the 7th octave than anyone elses. But Minnie does have more control and flexibility of WR notes in general than anyone else I've heard. Rachelle Ferrell, Adam Lopez and Mariah Carey also get shout outs in that department.
georgia brown-G8
adam lopez-C#8
mariah carey- A7
minnie ripperton- G7
betty wright- F7
I am also aware that other ethnic tribes can do it as well. Your right about that. I was stating an article that did a test results.
After Minnie comes betty they both had strong whistle registers
yes minnie first for me too
Nope honey Mariah at the top with her agility.
Yeah she belts that whistle out strong as an F7
Amazing
Just WOW!!!
4:44-5:09 is why I think she is better than Mariah
Clemsonshawty agreed, she's better than Mariah Carey.
No comparission but her last whistle tone is freaking GOOOOOOOD
Clemsonshawty that is Betty Wright's business card that small segment there lol!!!!!
no
Betty wright has amazing strong whistles.
Minnie, Betty, Mariah, Cynthia Fischer!!!
Hellz yeah ! Shanice can wash the kitchen floor with Betty's weave all dayum day lmao!
3:43 RIP Betty Wright
0h man . she is the best !
@captainbryce1 Her voice is strange, it's true, but I like her a little and she has high notes in chest voice too, I listened to a G#5, but I don't remeber her song
I had no IDea Betty Could get up here.
Cool. It'll be nice to know she has seen it. She's an awesome singer. I actually just discovered her a few years ago (I'm only 30 so I was only a kid or not born yet when she first came out). But I listen to her all the time now.
GREAT!!! I just think that her whistle abit limited mostly she whistle with long sustained notes and some poked with chest notes .the arrangement of the whistle is almost in this video. She Iess of staccato, melismatic whistle, transformation from chest note to whistle note directly. but she got the most powerful whistle as well as minnie ripperton.
I've updated the song list for everyone since people have been curious about the song titles. Just click "more info". Sorry, I don't know exactly what note that last one was except that it was higher than anything I've heard from Mariah!
"she can control her voice, its not just at one range"
That doesn't make any sense! "Better" is a subjective description. Betty's voice is not just at one range and she is demonstrating perfect control throughout. What are you talking about?
That's a good point. Don't know if I completely agree about who the "best" is, but at least this is a logical argument. Kudos!
I'd just like to reiterate for everyone that this is a NOT a declaration of who is the best whistle singer. Betty, Mariah, Minnie and the others are all good in their own way and I love all of them. At most, this should be a FRIENDLY comparrison between their voices. That's why I put a question mark at the end of the title and not a period. I leave it open for everyone to decide themselves. I'm just trying to get Betty Wright's voice out there because some younger people don't know her.
"Milk and Honey" has similar ad-libs of "If We" by Mariah Carey from the soundtrack "Glitter"..or is it just me?
True. I would also put Mariah Carey, Betty Wright, Rachelle Ferrell and Adam Lopez on the list of best WR singers in terms of their ability to control and manipulate notes.
Not everyone noticed her from as a whistle register because her biggest hits "Tonight's The Night" & "Clean Up Woman" don't display that vocal rage. Even the famous 1978 live album didn't display that vocal talent. I guess since Minnie was around that time, someone must have told her to be different or we can't have two whistle register singers in the business. I guess when Mariah came along, Betty let the world know, I can hit those notes too. Either way, she can hit those notes.
Just click "more info" at the top right corner to find out what all the songs are. The song at 00:30 is "No Pain, No Gain".
mariah's highest note is G#7 but her highest sustain is E7
betty wright's highest is G7 but her highest sustain is F7
minnie's highest note is G#7 but her highest sustain is F7
adam highest is C#8 but his highest sustain is F#7
and georgia highest note is only G#8 but her highest sustain is F7
Yes thats true not everyone can do it. What I ment was women have a higher chance of obtaining the technique. But being able to do it and being able to control it is two different things. Minnie obviously had the best control.
Wow...She's really way better than today's whistling singers. And in my observation black singer are way better in producing such high, supreme WHISTLE NOTES like Betty and Minnie.
HEr whistle voice or register is superb cause she can overlapped a high whistle and still sounds very pleasing to the ears.
@FloridianWolf "Something's Going On". All of the song titles are posted if you look under more information (next to number of views).
@soulandmore What about "Emotions" @ Arsenio Hall and "Emotions" @ VMA? or "Dreamlover" @ Sweden, or "All In Your Mind" a cappella Saturday Night Live...
For I Want To Know What Love Is, I thought The Alan Carr show was live. I guess she does always lip the high chest belts.
If Mariah is not second, then who is? And what place is Mariah?
They were both great. My favorites with whistle ranges are Lisa Fischer and Angela Bofill..Enjoy:
Whistle Queens..... 1) Minne 2) Betty 3) Mariah
she's actually hit it several times, especially on her Music Box tour in 93 in Emotions performances. And some people report it as being possibly higher than G#7.
?
Music box is Mariah but this is a Betty video logic?-?
@soulandmore Nasty Whistle? Never heard that before xD. And okay. In Arsenio Hall, Mariah goes up to a F#7 and in VMA, Mariah goes up to G#7. I like Mariah's Husky whistles too. My favorite whistle singer is Mariah.
I never heard Debelah before.
OMG!!!Are these people like 10yrs old that say Mariah inspired her?Go back to bed kiddies!!!!!Betty is damn near 60 & still can hit the whistle notes, she was teaching that girl on one of Diddys making the band shows a few yrs ago!!!!!
her and Minnie are queens but Minnie did it first
Betty's highest note is C8 Mariah's highest note is actually Bb7 but they both have good techniques.
my bad but I've heard her sing a Bb7
sorry
Mariah's highest note is actually a Bb7.
Here is the proof:
/watch?v=VfTrXXg_4dM
/watch?v=WsFYKak6OAU
+jawad akabani it is Bb7 people say but I'd say A7 and because of bad technique at the time it cracked and went up she did it in emotions she would go off key for the first scat and then fix her self for the second part
jawad alakabani Mariah hit a Bb7 in the same performance she hit the G#7.
depends how you do it if your like actually screaming it then it must hurt or stop but if your singing it or doing it with ease then your not hurting youself
impressive a pre mariah
It's uploaded now. Just search for it on youtube or find it on my profile.
I prefer Mariah's whistles to anyone else's because they have a nice tone to them. She can control their volume and power effortlessly, while other singers just sound screechy.
Agreed.
@jeremimi All the songs are listed on the drop down menu. The song playing on the 5:00 mark is the live version of "No Pain, No Gain"
Alot of her songs are about pain, nice.
Yeah, you're right
