Great video James. I would like to add that hearing weight shift mentioned by so many instructors and in person led me to sliding. I think better terminology could be used, i.e. pressure. If you tell ten people to shift their weight, I'd bet 9 out of 10 will slide. I was one of those 9. lol Thanks for all your hard work and great info!
Better iron stiking. What i did. 1. Place ball a little forward of center by 1 - 2 inch. 2. Lean shaft forward a little bit. 3. Swing club. Think of sliding club between ground and ball. The club will do its job amd get the ball in the air. You dont need to help it. Let the club do the work. I have less chunks. I still thin every now and then but my ball striking is much improved.
I sure am glad you did this video when you did...played my first round in the US this week. The top end and the low end of the bag are working great...but the middle! Bought some Takomo 101 irons even but can't seem to hit the irons crisp. Have to get back out next week and practice this. I can't say that I ever focused directly on the left hip. Thanks James! Cheers
Just come back from the range and frustrated that I don't seem to be able to get any reasonable distance with my irons. Just gone on you tube and this video is just what I needed so hopefully it can definitely improve my iron shots next time out Keep up the good work.
Great tip James! I’m a slider, and need to transition with a turn instead. As a request, can you and Chris do a video on course management, specifically which side of the tee box to hit from based on trouble up the left or right of fairway? I get confused sometimes on where to set up.
Watch golf sidekick. He is all about course management and expectations for your game. He talks thru 18 holes swing by swing and tells you why he chooses the shot he does
It all starts with correct setup and having the correct Clubs for your Swing and level of play.. That simple. If you are new to golf go to the Driving Range and work on consistent strike before you ever consider playing a round. Also make sure you have correct clubs.
James my struggle is continuing turning throughout the swing. I tend to stop turning when I get back to address position which causes me to flip to make contact. Can you show us a drill to help with continuing the turn?
Well I have the opposite issue. Somehow my hips rotate out too much and I dead pull 30 degrees. Been going on for about 5 months and I’m just about ready to quit the game.
I’ve had the same issue, really badly! Something that helped me is rather than initiating the downswing with rotation, feel like you’re dropping your hands straight down, but be careful not to stand the club up vertically. So top of backswing, pump the club down towards your right hip then back to the top and swing through, but maintain that hands down feeling. The rotation will take care of itself at that point. Also, try making less of a backswing which sounds crazy. But when you back swing too far, you post up on the trail leg and it can become straight. So try and maintain a little bit of flexion in that trail leg. Start with very slow swings, so with an 8 iron, it’ll only carry about 20 yards, then when you start bedding in those feelings and see the ball coming out straighter, slowly amp up the speed. Don’t rush! Hope this helps
Forgot to mention, when you straighten that trail leg, as you begin to flex it again, that bumps the right shoulder forward. It pushed my path so far forward in front of me that I was s***king it. So keeping the trail leg in flexion really helped!

Excellent video!! Simple to understand, now just trying to practice and incorporate into the swing!

I'm definitely gonna try this I've been struggling with my irons and it's infuriating!! Thx
James. Do use this concept for Hybrids as well, or just the Irons?
Thanks
Well done James 👏 😊

One would say. Nice turf interaction james

Tour edge iron? Where are your Mizuno JPX tour?
What irons were in your bag for this video James?
Srixon ZX 7 it seems.
Actually, 19-20 launch angle is perfect for a 34 degree 7 iron. That's what tour pros would get with that club

That has to be the shoulders mate

I think, you possibly are the best golfer on youbtube, you should play Peter Finch in his series best golfer on UA-cam
We’re playing next week buddy
@@getgoodatgolf brilliant, can't wait for that video.
😂😂😂If 95% can't hit their irons, why the hell are they still playing?
I keep telling my fat arse to turn, sometimes it just doesn't want to
This channels great, good idea away from both yours own channels to focus on helping us out
Once the thought of hitting the underside of the ball to get it up you may as well sell your clubs and quit🐨
James….I have tuned into you for a year or more. Can you slow down a tad?
tip starts 50 seconds in
Or, as Manolo says, PeePee to Pin!
Too fast, slow down
Such drama - couldn’t watch a minute of this guy.
