TIPS on removing cracked tempered glass screen protector THEN replacing it (invisible shield liquid)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- If you’ve got a tempered glass protector on your phone but now it’s broken, this video shows how to safely remove the old broken tempered glass screen protector. Take a knife and lightly work it in around the edge, then continue to go deeper and deeper until eventually the old screen protector will pop off. Then clean the clear glass on the front of your phone and replace the broken screen protector with a new one.

Thanks for showing that mistakes can be made.
Too many just edit it out and make it look like a perfect installation the first time.
Your video is a more "real-lifelike" experience than others.
It shows what can happen and tells what you can do about it.
remove the old skin with a thin paper businness card, much easier and safe...
Worked like a charm thank you!
Yeah I've done that before its way easier, safe and won't scratch anything.
Paper?
Just did it to mine after reading this comment. Thanks a lot!
Oh
NO! Lay the glass in position and use the tape for hinges. I use Scotch tape too. Then hinge it open and remove the protective sheet. Drop the new glass back in position and it's done. Everything must be super clean, the smallest dust particle causes a bubble.
I sat and stickers forever there’s still a small bubble in the corner idk how but next time to save time I’m just gunna duck tape it away cause the adhesive piece I was givin was not that sticky but did a good job for the most part
Well that rules out doing this in my house, your house, his house, and 80% of America because of the usual amount of dust and humidity in the air.
Just be careful not to touch and dirty the screen before applying the glass. If you do, no big deal, just peel it off and wipe it again with isopropyl. A good screen protector should be able to peel off within the first few seconds of adhering before permanently setting under room temperature
I find going into the bathroom and running the shower for ten minutes to make the room steam up, helps remove dust from the air. I then fit the screen protector in the bathroom.
To be honest I just did it with an x acto blade, didn’t scratch the screen at all. As long as you keep the blade mildly angle away from screen and move slowly. Good guide!
Managed to do it successfully with a knife. I was just lucky I think to find a bit that the knife just slipped under & managed to get it off to 2 complete sections. Thanks for the vid
@Hallo l
Unless you have a really old phone it doesn’t even matter you could use the sharpest knife you have and it won’t scratch the glass
I was surprised how resistant it was I was actually able to cut out the broken pieces of my screen protector and use full force cutting the bottom layer of plastic on the screen like a cutting board using my sharpest knife
You shouldn't use an Xacto knife to remove that because there's always the risk your hand will slip and you will gouge the screen. I've found a toothpick works great and you don't risk scratching your screen. Also, if you don't have access to a hair dryer to heat up the screen for a few seconds, place the phone face down in the palm of your hand and press down with your free hand just enough so that the entire screen comes into contact with your hand. Hold it like that for about 30 seconds and you should have no trouble starting the removal of the old tempered glass. I highly recommend starting at the opposite end to begin removal if your protector is cracked. Go slowly and slide the toothpick with gentle pressure. You'll see it begin to let go. Don't rush it and you'll be able to cleanly remove it. Don't panic if it starts to crack more. Just continue with slow, steady pressure. Once it starts coming off, you can grasp it between your thumb and forefinger and tug gently and watch it let go of the screen. The tempered glass is stuck to something like a laminate film that will help hold the shattered pieces together.
Thanks for the toothpick idea. Worked great!
@@lynnemsmall I second this
For electronics, generally anything plastic is good for seperating things. Like a plastic spudger would be ideal here but a guitar pick or any thin enough plastic really would be ideal
I watched this video before reading this comment and I was like "Why do you assume I have an exacto with me?" and used my finger nails, worked just fine. Why would I want to use a toothpick, does it typically not come off so easily?
Thanks
Tysm I thought I cracked my iPhone screen but thank god it was just the protector and now knowing that you can remove it makes me feel way more comfortable
Thank you! This helped me remove and replace the cracked screen protector on my iPhone 12! By the way, I used a sharp box cutter frequently used to open boxes from Amazon instead of an Exacto knife. Worked perfectly!
I was being careful with the x-acto, but no matter how careful, one wrong twist of the wrist puts a scratch where there was none before...much safer to use a fingernail!!!
Have fun breaking your nail easier than it is to scratch the screen with the exacto
@@okdudewhyareyoulookingatmych fun? breaking a nail? However, my nails are strong and more resilient than the blade was, thank you.
@@beadcomber1 Yes! I would definitely use my fingernail instead of a xacto
the fngernail technique broke a piece off the glass and got a glass shard stuck under the fingernail. youch..
Well, i hate to break it to you, but if a razor scratched your screen, then it's made from plastic. And in that case I recommend giving it to a professional or switching to a phone with a glass display.
Thank you so much. This video helped.
This is a great tutorial on what NOT TO DO.
1. Fragile camera glass sitting on a METAL PAN why???? Just set it on your soft table cloth.
2. Don't put a metal blade to the very screen you're trying to protect. Use something softer, like a guitar pick or credit card
3. Of course your new screen protector was off center. The tape isn't for you to haphazardly try to lower it into place. The tape is for creating a hinge so your new screen protector lands exactly where you want it.
A hinge? Explain, please! You tell him he's wrong, but you don't explain the hinge part. I'm about to replace my screen protector, and I'm not getting skilled demonstrations. Maybe it will tell me on the box cover, but they out 2 stickers on the English instructions!
@trainman1209 OK, place your screen protector on the phone where you want it. (Without removing any of the plastic on the screen protector! You want it to be just like out of the box)
Take your stickers and place them on the edge of your screen protector and roll the sticker over the SIDE of your phone. This should create a "hinge", so your screen protector should be able to open and close like a little door.
Place a third sticker on the opposite side of the hinge. Almost like a little door nob. You don't want this sticker to stick to anything else, it's just meant for you to be able to "open and close" the screen protector "door" you have just made without getting your fingers all over it.
Now open your screen protector door and leave it open.
Clean your phone screen really good.
Remove the plastic on the sticky side of your screen protector.
Grab the door handle and close the door, when you're closing the door make sure to be using the door handle to almost pull away from your hinges. This way the screen protector lays right back where you had it.
I hope this kind of helps, there are definitely other youtube videos that visually explain what I'm talking about.
You don’t need the razor. Just use your fingernails and to get under it and pull it off slowly. That’s how I’ve been doing it ever since I’ve owned an iPhone.
It works
@Kentucky Unlucky I’d wait a few days until they grow back long enough or get someone else to do it.
He had adhesive on his, he used the exacto knife to dislodge it
Or the back of a stapler also works pertty well
Does it get sticky when u take it off?
I ended up grabbing a hair clip to lift up the corner. Once there was enough space I inserted a credit card and lifted it up all the way.
An exacto knife is too risky for me.
That worked just as it should, thank you for the informational video.
Thank you for this tutorial! Glad I had an exacto knife on hand, however I do think anything with a sharp edge would have worked to get underneath. Very thankful for the time you took to film and post this!
Many Thanks! My screen protector was mad cracked but I was able to remove it in once piece😊
Guys to save a little more time this is a safe way but all you have to do is slowly use your nail to life the glass protector from each corner until you see bubbles forming. AFTER you get each corner peeled off you pick your favourite corner and slowly start lifting the screen protector not putting any resistance or strength and it will slowly come off in about 15 seconds with nothing breaking and no glass falling anywhere.
what if all the corners are shattered
Just read your comment and accomplished the task without watching the video. Thank you.
@@vongolatx4828 no issues u use the sides u don’t have to use corners but that’s the easiest way to start 🤷🏽♂️ if broken take - peel off broken bits - and continue 🤷🏽♂️

Thank you! Respect from Romania your tutorial helped me replace the screen protector on my Huawei Y6 2019! :D
Thanks! Very clear, easy to follow. Showing what you got a little bit wrong really helped me get it right.
Thank you! Didn't know how to get it off until I got my exacto knife! Easy peasy thanks to you!

So the guide stickers are so you can place it on the phone that’s why it’s sticky you line it up then remove one side to take off the protectors piece for the sticky side then it won’t be uneven and mine came with instructions on how to place the application stickers as well and you wanna put them on the sides to you can see the mic and camera and such
I put some clear packing tape on screen before starting to remove it so if it does crack it just stays stuck to the tape, and can even pull lightly on the tape to help lift the screen off
Thanks for the clear demonstration. I have to do this for a friend, and your demo helps!
thank you it was so easy after i see the vedio
Well, a nice tool you got there. The problem is where/ how to get hold of that.
Thanks for your excellent video. It worked with my small pocket knife.
I have UV lamp. Should I use that to loosen the glue?
I had a few cracks and one was sticking up sharp and I kept cutting my hand on it so I decided to remove it. It didn’t go well. My whole screen protector cracked when I took it off. I had glass in my hands because I went to fast. I thought it would be satisfying
Wonder if you can lift one side a little and pull a piece of floss under to separate it. 🤔 I have to replace mine soon. Will try that.
You should use the 2 guide stickers to create a hinge like on a door or window, it will make applying the protector a lot easier.
Before installing the new protector you can out 1-2 drops pure ethyl alcohol. Then it is really easy to slip the new glass if it is not centered properly. But you need to wait minimum 30 minutes after the instalation.
I always heard never to use alcohol on your screen.
I think it you put the carrying tabs on either side and not the top and bottom and stand up so you can see better it will be easier. Do you avoid covering the mike and speaker?
Came here to learn, stayed for the ASMR
Lol
I used to place a sheet of package tape over the cracked glass protector then pick a side and peel of . but now I slip a sheet of paper between the screen and protector and slide it down the screen comes off clean. Thanks for info!
Best replacement video I seen.
👍
Thank-you for this video it was very helpful !!
How about using a hair dryer to warm up the adhesive?
Way too excessive
Lol use a hair dryer directly onto your phone, what a genius.
Would heating the front help loosen the glue?
Yes. Any mild heat source like a hair dryer is fine. It is always better to loosen adhesives with heat than pry at them cold.
My invisible Invisible First Defense Shield has been on my phone for 3 years now. It has a few minor scratches on it. Is it still good?
Seen all the hate comments, im sending love! But i do agree with them xx no hate
Thanks for good instructions, I’m going to order a 3 pack and attempt to do this.
How long should I bake my phone on that tray for?
Correct title for this video:
“HOW NOT TO REMOVE A GLASS SCREEN PROTECTOR”
Great instructions! Even without the same tools, I could get great results. Your clear style, and the way you describe the reason for each step, those make a great presentation. Thanks!
I just put my fingernail underneath and slowly peeled the screen protector off my iPhone 8. What's with the hobby knife and letting the protector fall right back down from where you just peeled it off?
3:42 my guy you can make the wet wipes bigger u know

I have a question im sure someone on the planet has asked already..but why does the screen protector have an edge? Shouldn't it cover the whole front of the phone and not leave a tiny gap where your screen is and can potentially stil get damaged
Thanks for an idea I love you thanks so much Omg I was trying to take it off so bad thank you I have. A iPhone 11 thanks I like your videos
This was so helpful, thank you so much. I'm so terrible with these, hope I can align mines.
I would recommend lifting the glass from the opposite corner that isn’t damaged. Use your finger nail to get under there and then gently lift the whole thing off.
*Who else thought it was going to be satisfying 😂*
LMAO
Me 😂
I thought this would be difficult but honestly just used my finger nail and peeled slowly with no glass cracking anymore than it already was
I don’t wanna crack it lol
Thanks a lot it really helped me, now I just need a new screen protector
So what tool you're using?
Thank you so much for this video, was really helpful...... I changed my screen protector myself for the first time and it went well. 😊
What actually cleans the screen as I don't have the wipes. Is it alcohol or adhesive remover?
Alcohol first, then a lint free cloth to make sure it's dry. Make sure it's dust free before sticking down!
always cut away. but you were very carefull. thanks.for the vid.
Thanks. Was exactly what I needed
This was very helpful thanks I just fixed my broken screen luckily no deep cracks didn’t reach my phone (phew)
Thank you so much! I found this very helpful, finally someone who shows what the guide stickers do and how to remove a cracked screen protector!
Couldnt you put packing tape on the surface so if it cracks more, the shards are contained?
i like how he uses a sharp knife and risks scratching the actual screen..
i would be careful with that razor...scratching up the actual screen
So far I haven’t had a problem with the razor, but I have been pretty careful to make sure I don’t scratch anything up
@@livefree6878 you may not have a problem, but someone who has never changed a screen protector before may not know how to properly use a blade. yikes dude!
you cant scratch glass with steel
Newer gorilla glass wont scratch
The razor won’t scratch anything unless it’s plastic
Nice video i was nervous of lifting it and i was able to use an old gift card to bring it up without a knife. Worked out great and prevented extra cracking on mine.
This should be top comment
Thank you for sharing this process. Just completed a screen replacement. Successful thanks to your information.
What if the screen underneath is cracked? Can you still peel of the cover glass without doing futher damage to the screen?
No point being careful if your actual display is cracked tho
@@justsomepandawithinternet i mean u got a point there
Awesome. Worked great. Thanks!
How do you discard the used glass?
Great I wish I had an exacto knife since a kitchen knife would prolly b a bed idea lol
I found finger nails worked well and quickly, also no chance of scratching.
name of the knife
If you use a smaller phone case that wraps around the back, put it back on before placing the new glass to help guide its placement.
I can’t tell if it’s my screen protector or iPhone I’m scared to take it off 😱
really helpful thanks
I just put on a screen protector that cracked whilst peeling the back off...now I can't tell the difference of my actual cracked phone screen and the glass...does it still protect my phone from preventing the cracks getting worse? Or does the cracked tempered lost its effect?
Thanks for the tip for using the X-Acto knife. I was able to easily remove my old one and safely install the new one.
Placement stickers was done in a way that make's it easy to screw up unfortunately. Hinge method is the best.
used this method for my phone, works wonders
Tnx it worked
The adhesive that kept the screen protector attached to the screen of my phone has dried out. This means it's hard and dry, and when I try to get a knife (or anything's) edge under there, it just chips off hard, powdered pieces of a glass-like substance (probably the tempered glass). How do I get it off? It will take FOREVER to get it off via this method!!! 🤯😱😔
Just use dental floss to get the old protector off. Slides right through with no damage or scratch/cut risk.
I wonder how many people are gonna scratch their screen in this process 😆
Guitar pick works well
Thank you!
My screen protector is broken so this pretty much helps
Thanks this helped !
After properly cleaning the phone's screen, using the sticker strips as temporary "hinges" is the best way to exactly position the screen protector. Place the sticker strips onto the screen protector evenly spaced and halfway onto the screen protector along the long edge. Position the screen protector onto the phone without removing the plastic film and slide it in the correct position. Now simply wrap the sticker strips around the side and back of the phone. Place another sticker strip on the other side of the screen protector to act as a tab you can hold while lifting and lowering the screen protector. You can now lift the screen protector up and remove the plastic film. Slowly lay the screen protector down, the tape "hinges" will guide the screen protector to the exact same place it was in with the film on it. Lightly swipe the screen protector from top to bottom and it will magically draw tight to the phones screen.
Thanks Heaps
Was emboldened to try the fingernail at the top of my phone and the whole thing came off quite easily including the width wide crack.. and the film underneath meant it all came off in one piece.. no shards.. no mess. YaBabee! Now I'll mess up the new one putting it on... Using the Kareen system. Good luck!

Wow! Thank you!
windex works for that sticky resude, maybe. I used it to remove a dumb sticker on the back of my oneplus nord

I didn’t need an x acto blade. I just peeled the screen off with no problems.
using thin plastick is recommended
So my screen protector cracked with my phone rip
Can I use a card? I don't wanna risk my new $200 phones screen
