MISA refuses to get stuck in the thud-thud-thud along behind the lead guitar ghetto that is a common home of bass guitarists, and it's a tribute to her skills that the band feature her so prominently.
Just saw them live 11/9. Akane (the Drummer) has the biggest grin you've ever seen the entire show! I only found these girls recently and the Akane is the first new drummer to inspire me to sit down and practice new things in 25ish years! I never thought I'd ever find a use for my double pedals or the desire to play fast like she does. As for Misa seeming "fun," her mom owns a bar, and it is pretty well noted she usually has a drink handy on stage. But when the "MISA MISA MISA" chants starts she gets embarrassed. Miku will drag her up to the mic where she might say "I am Misa" and FLEE back to her corner behind her bass.
"Secret my lips" ua-cam.com/video/1Vuca7V-5Ec/v-deo.html and "Moratorium" ua-cam.com/video/N7BQCkUb4SI/v-deo.html Bass, drums, and all rythm section. Yeah, and these girls is pure fun. Not mastery and skills for already tedious for me performances in the kind of - see what I can do, but just a mastery for fun.
Nice reaction. You will notice as you go thru more that the bass is always up front in the mix. Unlike some that think bass is just rhythm and that is about it, MISA (the assassin maid) brings it every time. Their mix normally has her in the left ear and Kanami (the Tsunami Lead) in the right predominately. I plan to be right in front of MISA next Saturday night in SF. Nothing says rock like a head banging, thumping bass.
I've "been there"; I happened to have a similar position when I went to one of their lives and was content with it; she has a natural stage presence, without doing anything weird, that probably most performers would kill for; I was at the Lucca show, we were outside and suddenly became very cold (they were pushed late by the preceding bands...); Misa was the first to go on stage in position and begun setting up her gear; naked arms, lights only behind her (thus we were seeing almost only her shilouette), fast precise elegant movements, ideal stance, buffs of breath against the light. Read "no gimmicks, here"....and the crowd goes silent ;D She's a natural: it's not that she only looks "cool", it's that makes people feel they'd like the idea of *them* being musicians; plus ( stage/interviews persona aside ) reportedly she's a very level-headed, cordial, likeable individual (and we got a - very brief - glimpse of it at the press conference). ...enjoy the live show ;-)
@@hlb979 @Xavier Rozes Thanks so much for the insight! Luckily it is an indoor venue, and fairly small (Like 500ish) which I prefer when I see a band the first time.Makes the "introduction" to the real live work more intimate. Not saying I don't appreciate the 5k+ venues for a first time (Santana, Garbage, etc.).. but not as much. It will also be fun going thru the Meet & Greet, though those are usually excruciatingly (for both artist and fan) long assembly lines. I don't know how many VIP there were, but at 500 total, can't see it being even close to half. It will really be fun to actually get to see them face to face. And of course, saving my throat for the MISA! MISA! My wife prefers Miku, so I think we will have a great spot.
I would not be surprised if Miku (rhythm guitar) who writes their lyrics uses Google translate to get her english lyrics. So you end up with lyrics like "Break a new gate" or "I don't know why tear is overflowing down." One of my favorite songs of theirs is titled "Secret My Lips". But for me the bad english is kind of endearing.
If you've ever seen what English lessons are like in most Japanese schools, you'd know that Google translate is usually an improvement. Nearly every student in Japan takes 4+ years of English in school and yet very few Japanese people can actually speak much by the time they graduate. When you realize that it's nearly universal that only native-Japanese teachers (who often don't *actually* speak English either) are allowed to teach it, then it all starts to make sense.
I have a strange feeling, and even certainty, that at the moment in the US and Great Britain probably would be set up a long queue of volunteers who would teach them English for free :)
@@damonbrown5424 I was actually invited to visit a school in Kushiro many years ago when my ship visited. I, being someone who has tried, and failed miserably to learn languages have the utmost respect for anyone who even attempts it. LOL Having seen some pretty hilarious videos of songs put into Google translate, then translated back to English, I'm on board with Riff Raff's theory of Miku's use of Google LOL 🥗🥗
There is a wealth of Japanese artists who put western acts to shame. From sugary pop to hard rock there are Japanese bands that are so talented. No lip syncing, miming etc. Have a look at 'Thrill' which was their first song: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Believe or not, Band Maid are better known outside Japan than they are at home. Misa the bass player is so sultry. She rarely smiles and always looks fed up in interviews and promotion work but I think that is part of the act. When she does smile, the world is a better place :-)
@Glynthepin The (o1:37ish) mark of Real Existence (Live) from last April... And then you have Miku in that one... Flying Pigtails of Death... tell me that is just red "highlights" at the end... LOL
@@Glynthepin Agreed. I am really curious how that is going to play to the LA/SF shows crowds in the next couple of days. We all know it and have seen it on video, but in person... LOL well, it will be entertaining, that is for sure.
Misa, the bass player, is called The Assassin. It's a short song, but there's nothing simple or easy about Band Maid's playing. Listen to the instrumental ONSET live. You'll be able to see where they can go.
The Japanese female musicians have been killing it the past few years. This official live clip is even more ‘metal’, Bridear - “Scream” ua-cam.com/video/Mwp8RKL9RyY/v-deo.html And less metal but extreme talent on their instruments, check this group, Doll$Boxx - “Take My Chance” ua-cam.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/v-deo.html Love the English bits too, Bridear song is all English but tough accents; in DB the lead singer doesn’t use English, but the other 4 do (who have their own main band called Gacharic Spin, if you don’t hate DB, you’ll have to check that too)
ChJF I know, I know. You are still stacking, arranging, and each time the five maids come out of the box in the end and begins to run around the house :)
Best rock and roll band under thirty in the world!!! Mad skills and super hot!! Found on the lyrics you have to play with them a little because in Japanese they put their adverbs and adjectives in different spots. So when translated things are backwards.
Haha, you won't find any mobiles at a Japanese concert! ;) But they are definitely having fun! Their pronunciation is actually impressively good...but yeah...I still think it's funny how most bands don't give a crap about actual grammar. They use the English (or any other) language just as they would use Japanese which of cause sounds funny to any English speaking person. But you can still understand what they are saying so I think it's all fine :) Glad it made you smile!
