Asheville is great for tourists, but getting worse and worse for people living here BECAUSE of tourists. Prices for rent are some of the highest in the country, and house prices are sky high too. Most of the jobs here pay absolute shit wages and demand far more of workers than they should. I personally know multiple friends that have had to move out of asheville because working 2-3 jobs in asheville wasn't enough to afford an apartment or house in asheville. There's some sort of irony where the city actively pushes out its tourism workforce in favor of more tourism. At some point the city will crash and burn due to it only being inhabited by the rich retirees that don't need to work, and the tourists that come to tour stores with no workers.
I had the same thoughts. Asheville is a shiny penny but there’s an underbelly and a huge class struggle. The highways are overused way past their capacity and the land is being over developed. There was a group who overdosed on fentanyl at the Grove Park Inn recently. It’s an amazing city but the messaging that goes out nationally just encourages more and more people to move here which is unsustainable.
@@robblackwell2774 can't forget about the now weekly car jackings either. It's like our city government wants to get as much money from tourists as possible (which is the reason they help fund trips for influencers like this), and instead of putting that money into the people that are the lifeblood of the city they just put it into hotel development and constructing new attractions over historical and sentimental locations. I cant blame tourists completely though, they're just cogs in a machine being turned by greedy and/or incompetent city officials.
Also lots of homeless/druggies that will harass you downtown and especially in East Asheville. Poor pay, high prices, overrated food scene. Its Trashville now.
Heroin needles and tent cities everywhere. The nice monument that was downtown is now gone. Many of the reasons people used to move here no longer exist.

There are no long A sounds in the word “Appalachian.” Mark of the flatlander. Say “apple-atch-un.” January/February is alway the least expensive time to come to Asheville, but you do risk winter weather messing with your ability to get around.
Nicely done! You showed some of the best parts of Asheville. For those intending to visit just keep in mind there are other aspects to Asheville as well. It’s safe enough but do be aware of certain areas and use prudence as you should in any city when visiting.
@@safromnc8616 River Arts District is not as nice as people say it is. There are homeless tent cities there and everyone is doing heroin. The last time I went to downtown asheville I watched homeless people smoke crack cocaine on the street with a big smile on their face. The police watched him smoke it too and did nothing. If you like total degeneration of society and total dystopia then Asheville is for you. If you like order and nice things, stay away.
Nice video but here are a few things for people to know who are unaware. I'm a local who has lived in Asheville my entire life and here are three very important things you need to know before coming here that wasn't shown in the video: 1. In the recent years we have gotten homeless tent cities pop up all around town 2. River Arts District is covered in heroin needles. The graffiti is really ugly there. A lot of what looks like "cool hip businesses" is actually dirty hippies and homeless people shooting up needles in those areas. 3. The city has turned into a very dystopic nightmare version of what it looked like just 10 years ago. I used to enjoy going downtown, as it was a very chill place. Nowadays, particularly ever since the 2020 riots when people burned some buildings down and a lot of the good police quit their jobs, I hear about multiple gunshot casualties per night, which is really not the same city I remember.
I would also mention that the Botanical Gardens has had so many people get raped there that they had to put up rape phones every so many feet on the trail. This video actually reminds me of those videos of people visiting North Korea where they are guided along and only shown the best possible view of the place while ignoring all the bad things. And there are MANY bad things about Asheville, the awesome views from Mt Pisgah not being one of them.
Not to mention the addicts that are passed out on Riverside before the Haywood bridge you can't go out into Ingles parking lot without the worry of stepping on a hypodermic needle or the worry of having to buy pay for food cuz the cost of living here is outrageous
Oh wow!! My mom has always wanted to visit the Biltmore estates and she would love to do everything you showcased in this video. Thanx sooo much for sharing :-).
I’m so close to Asheville! Biltmore Village is so cute and Omni Grove Park Inn hosts an annual gingerbread house contest that guests are able to visit for free Nov-Jan (?).
I'm from Asheville, you went to all of my favorite spots. Sometimes they do sound healing in the salt cave 🙌🏽 If you come back you should go to Shoji spa!!!
I live in Asheville, it is gorgeous! The mountain views STILL take my breath away and I see them ALL the time! The mountains covered in fresh snow, lets you see their dimension and vastness. Glad you showed that aspect. 😍 I have never had a negative experience here and all the warnings just seem a bit much. The south is filled with quaint politeness and the people are just charming. You feel the slow ease of the environment and you just feel calmer.
You must be new around here. I have lived in Asheville since 1989 and the city has went downhill in a big way! It has gotten this run-down look that it didn't have 10 years ago. And the new buildings going up are really ugly, employing this postmodern brutalist design that does not mesh well aesthetically with the beautiful old art deco buildings.
The traffic and homeless issue is putting such a stress on the system. Highest rent in the state. Housing issue. Too many people moving here. Staffing shortage because workers can't afford to actually live here.
Asheville is my home ❤️ My husband and I felt the pull to move to Asheville after honeymooning here, so glad you’ve enjoyed this magical little city we call home! Thank you for sharing, you’ve introduced us to some spots to explore, be sure to checkout the river arts district next time you visit.

Great Video Allison! Thank you. I'm serious considering moving to the Asheville Black Mountain area from Durham.
Oh wow!! My mom has always wanted to visit the Biltmore estates and she would love to do everything you showcased in this video. Thanx sooo much for sharing :-).
I was literally planning my next vacation to be Asheville in march. Literally!!!
Hope you like seeing homeless tent cities and heroin needles on the ground everywhere
This looks absolutely amazing!! I have to go here!!
It's amazing, I'm from Vietnam, I have the same passion for camping in a small car..!!
I’m so close to Asheville! Biltmore Village is so cute and Omni Grove Park Inn hosts an annual gingerbread house contest that guests are able to visit for free Nov-Jan (?).
This is idyllic! If I'm ever in NC, I'll be heading straight to Asheville.
Just becareful because it's not all peaches and creme in Asheville.
It's nowhere near as nice as the video makes it look. Everyone is homeless and on heroin in Asheville.
I'm from Asheville, you went to all of my favorite spots. Sometimes they do sound healing in the salt cave 🙌🏽 If you come back you should go to Shoji spa!!!
Okay, you have me sold. Some day, post college, I will reward myself with a trip here
I live in Asheville, it is gorgeous! The mountain views STILL take my breath away and I see them ALL the time! The mountains covered in fresh snow, lets you see their dimension and vastness. Glad you showed that aspect. 😍
I have never had a negative experience here and all the warnings just seem a bit much.
This was so well shot!
I live here in North carolina it has some cool places.
Asheville is my home ❤️
My husband and I felt the pull to move to Asheville after honeymooning here, so glad you’ve enjoyed this magical little city we call home! Thank you for sharing, you’ve introduced us to some spots to explore, be sure to checkout the river arts district next time you visit.
River Arts District is literally covered in heroin needles with homeless tent cities and trash
