So tip. College / University have surplus stores. My local university has dozen of hp, and dell. I picked up a 9020(i7) with 16GB & 512GB HD for $130. I purchased the 6400 to pair with it. @@MisterUrbanWorld Yeah for sure it should be able to run those, I was able to run apex legends on a pretty consistent 60fps. Another thing to add to this. If you’re lucky enough and find one of these with a Quadro K1200 it doesn’t need to be replaced right away. They are serviceable as a comparable to a GT1030. They wouldn’t be able to do well in CoD but the other games it would be fair till someone could find one of the GPUs recommended.

Idk why I didn't see this sooner since I always bought from the source and paid full price for windows activation keys 😅 but absolute genius for the price of this and performance! I am going to attempt this very soon, I was looking for a budget PC for someone and this checks off all the right boxes, thanks for bringing this to light! And hope you are doing well!
Great build!!. For the price you can also buy an Xbox Series S that in addition provides you with amazing portability, VRR and 60fps gaming at 1080p. keep up the good work!
See, this what I should have done. I dropped $500 on a PC intending to upgrade it, only to realize years later it was largely proprietary parts, most damning being the power supply and motherboard connections. I'm planning to just build an entirely new one at this point.
An observation - it's pretty standard in corporate scenarios to keep/slag the hard drive separate from the rest of the system. I just got a Lenovo E470 for free from work because the hard drive failed and IT only supports NVMe going forward.
I'm guessing you could remove the internals and put them in a different case if you weren't too worried about spending the extra money... but I honestly don't mind the look of this. As long as it performs.
I know I'm late, but quick reminder... The 6400 can make use of RSR so you can get way with more frames on those hard to run games. Whereas the 1650 cannot use DLSS
I built this with a used RX 6400. My total price was only $142. It can play and capture in HD. I'm actually impressed. 32gb of ddr4 ram, 500gb Sata, i7-8700
I use the heck outta my Optiplex 3010 that I've upgraded with a used i7 3770 and a used GTX 1060. About $300 all said and done with 1.5tb of storage (500gb in SSD and 1tb of HDD) and 16gb of RAM.

I'm glad people are still doing these up-cycle builds. Tired of the "we're doing a budget build today, and we are limiting ourselves to only $3000, so unfortunately it won't be able to do 4k 120hz with ray tracing" 🤷
Except there isn’t 16 gigabytes of ram. Source: 2:49, says 4gb right on it and other shots of the computer show only 2 slots being used. That’s also ddr3 ram.
Damn I used to watch these videos religiously before I got my gaming pc damn to y’all broke boys who still in high school like me when I was a kid u gone get it man just wait your turn
No hate but these sort of builds are purely situational. In my country you *can* buy these sort off pcs but there is always the problem of weak processors(say core 2 duos at worst or a second-third gen i5s at best) or only 4 gigs(8 if you're lucky) of RAM and 120 ssd or 500 hdd. Even then it would cost around 100-200 dollars. Almost never less. Attempting to buy something off of ebay is certainly an option but the shipping cost alone would make buying a semi-new pc look far better in comparison.
Landed a Lenovo m900 for 109.99 for my dad, sporting 16gb ddr4, i5 6500t, 256gb ssd, windows 10 license, and a 22" monitor. Itll just be a work pc but a solid upgrade from his current setup
Might even improve performance a tiny bit since the gpu can pull in a little air from outside the case. You can also cut a slit in the case and pass a riser cable through it, and just have your gpu sitting outside the case if you really don't care about asthetics
I have an Elitedesk HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Small Form Factor Business PC with a 512 SSD and 32gb of ram, I will definetly put one of those 2 GPUs in to make it somewhat useful. Thanks Zack!!
It's sort of funny how what we see as an acceptable framerate has changed. It used to always be 60fps, you're golden (or admittedly more like 80 in the CRT days). Now a consistent 60 is the *bare minimum* and anything below is totally unplayable.
If you want super clean edges, frog tape from home depot works fantastic. Run something over the edge of the tape to make sure it's flat then wipe it with a damp cloth- and that activates the paint block formulated into the adhesive, which will give you razor sharp edge👍
Nice video, GTX 1650 does better with PCIe 3.0, but it's hard to find for a good price. RX 6400 easy to get new for around $150. P.S. I also recently upgraded office computer.
@@Tech.Closet The HP builds, particularly the mid towers are great to upgrade. I recently got a Prodesk with an i5-6500 which I slapped a 1050ti in. However looking at the connections a PSU swap and better GPU may be on the cards.
@@jeckjeck6943 The 6400 is only on par with the 1650 and that's only on pcie gen 4 not the pcie gen 3 in these office PCs where the performance would be worse. I think the best option would be a used 1650 or a power supply, cable to ensure the slimline dvd can still work, and a gtx 970. The 970 would give about 20% more performance than a 6400 would get in pcie gen 4 so even better in pcie gen 3. A gtx 980 or 1650 super or Rx 580 would be a much better option, and probably cost no more than the 6400. It's a shame AMD gimped the 6400 in pcie gen 3 by limiting the bandwidth.
I got the same pc but refurbished with 32gb ram,i7 7700 and 1TB SSD but I always knew I could definitely make it twice as better if I get a small gpu but I didn't think it was possible until now, thanks!
WARNING!!!! Due to the case and motherboard being proprietary (non-standard ATX), upgrading it past GPU,RAM (DDR4), and HDD/SSD is a problem. If you are fine with the core limitations of the CPU being bound by the form factor of the case (and therefore motherboard) then have at it. But just to let you know, you will most likely not be able to upgrade the CPU due the the physical restrictions of the case's form factor.
Hey man, check out Solidigm NVMe drives on NewEgg. Their 1TB 4,125MB/s Gen 4 M.2 is only $65. And they sound no-name, but they actually have a solid pedigree. Haven’t built a pc in years and admittedly was not aware of some of the technology changes (nvme drives are completely new to me)
Definitely have given me some ideas for something in the near future. Thanks!
*update* so I showed my middle son this video 7 months ago. He’s 11 yrs old. His mother gave his older brother her pc she was using for work but since Covid died down she went back to work in the office. He got motivated by the video, saved up his coins and put this build together a few dollars fluctuated and he sourced a keyboard/mouse/keyboard. This build works and the price was spot on! Thank you so much for this video ❤️❤️❤️
Not bad! Looks beautiful! Old components are getting better and better. Crazy how you can play most new games on old hardware for cheap.
I’m calling it “The R2-D2 PC”.
So tip. College / University have surplus stores. My local university has dozen of hp, and dell. I picked up a 9020(i7) with 16GB & 512GB HD for $130. I purchased the 6400 to pair with it. And I will be adding a SSD. It has the 512GB, but it is not solid state. So it will be great for additional storage.
I have i5-6600K in my "TV" PC for gaming and video streaming(since smart TV OS sucks) and paired with GTX1060 6GB I can still play a lot of older titles from my library. It's really great CPU.
Just picked up a 1 year old GTX 1650 on Mercari for a grand total of 97.28, and the exact same PC for about 65 bucks with 16 GB of RAM on Ebay. I will be using it for a dedicated Batocera build with about 4 TB of games. Can't wait! Thanks for the excellent recommendations!
BRO I'm with you 100%. I got my Elitedesk 800 G1 from Ebay, guy upsold me an i7 for an i3, i hooked a riser in it and crammed my Rx 550. Overclock fried the 16x slot. Plugged it in the 4x slot, still going a year strong, Plays almost my whole steam library including Final Fantasy Remake VII
I spent ~200 USD on a pc following a similar build path before seeing this and only managed an i5-2400 and a 1050ti. Hats off to this guy.
Are you able to play the latest games in 2022?
@@MisterUrbanWorld That kind of dirt cheap pc can still surprisingly run the majority of games at minimum settings, where it really fell short was its HDD loading times and heavily used processor.
@@volgar2045 The reason I asked is because I gave my friend a similar set up 4-5 years ago due to not being able to afford the latest consoles/pc. He has missed out on the last 2 generations, so I was hoping to gift him games to play this holiday season. He's still kind of new to pc gaming, but he mainly plays retro, fighters, horror, adventure games, so not too demanding.
@@MisterUrbanWorld Yeah for sure it should be able to run those, I was able to run apex legends on a pretty consistent 60fps. If he were to get an upgrade it would make the most sense to get an ssd to improve some of the loading times. Some emulators like bluestacks sort of require you to enable "virtualisation" in your motherboard, which older ones might not be able to do.
Now that's a presentation! Loved the execution of the content here no bullshit straight to the point... Grade A quality UA-cam content
i dont see how the parts you need listed add up to 200 dollars , unless my calculator is broken.
I actually got myself an HP 290 G2 MT desktop with i5 8500, 1TB HDD and 8gb ram for $95. Upgraded the ram to 16gb and the psu to 500w. Got a Gainward Rtx 2060s for $170 on Aliexpress. Total build $350. I can play all games on 1080p ultra settings with 60+ fps
Looks like you got yourself a very decent setup! I paid 250 euros for mine in total, GTX 1650 i5-8600T, 750GB SSD in a HP prodesk 600 G4 Mini (GPU is external).
@@hereis_Tiff Fair deal
@@hereis_Tiff The only downside so far is airflow but I've capped all games to 60fps as I use a 60hz monitor. Temperatures are in low 60's on high end games🙂
@@QwecySlim Yeah those OEM's were never built for high performance tasks. Although I do notice that my mini PC stay much cooler than my 1000 euro i7 laptop, which basically melts my skin whenever I do anything remotely "heavy".
@@hereis_Tiff Well yeah. The desktop will obviously have better airflow than the laptop
Just bought the setup it arrives Dec 16th first pc ever!!!!
Another thing to add to this. If you’re lucky enough and find one of these with a Quadro K1200 it doesn’t need to be replaced right away. They are serviceable as a comparable to a GT1030. They wouldn’t be able to do well in CoD but the other games it would be fair till someone could find one of the GPUs recommended.
a 1030 is kinda throwaway garbage tho
I’m not that technologically inclined when it comes to computers and I’d really appreciate if someone could run down all components needed for this build, thanks to anyone that does.
This PC is just so awesome in every sense. Perfect for someone who needs a PC for work and only plays games casually to pass time. These specs are just awesome for the price plus it's SFF so more mobile and looks nice after the paint job too.
Agreed, thanks for watching!
My 17yr old pc plays them all too, as I did what you have done years ago.
At 0:59 when he shows his ad, which this is by no means me criticizing the entire thing but I feel like a lot of people probably don't know that you could just go and buy steam currency off the platform nowadays and it's buy the dollar amount too when I saw the 50 USD for 55.26 USD that is immediately stupid 😂 the others are even more ridiculous that I shouldn't even mention them, the window keys on here however is a definite yes! And hope you are doing well!
gg for the 200k highly deserved !
Great build!!. For the price you can also buy an Xbox Series S that in addition provides you with amazing portability, VRR and 60fps gaming at 1080p. keep up the good work!
Finally a budget build that is actually "budget" 😎.
There's no 1650 lp anywhere on the internet for $100. They are normally $160-$200 as I've been keeping an eye out for a cheap one for ages
Finally, an actual budget build
I've watched sooo many pc build videos and honestly I appreciate your approach and delivery. Well done THANK YOU liked and subbed.
Its crazy how far a paint job can take your computer. It looks sweet!
Me over here rockin' PCIe v1.1...
Thanks bro I was looking for a video like this for a very long time
I've made like 100 of them at this point lol....
The blue trim looks shoddy as hell but nice budget build!
About $300 all said and done with 1.5tb of storage (500gb in SSD and 1tb of HDD) and 16gb of RAM.
i have a lenovo m92p sff.I bought a gt 1650 added ddr3 ssd 1 tb and a 2 tb mechanical ..now the 1650 i bought used for 60.00 i also put a usedi7 3770 for 40.00 the pc was 93.00 fully renewed off amazon which they made it look brand new
dude, man, thank you, thank you, I appreciate the ever living 💩 outta you, I have been putting a computer together for myself and I've been running Windows 10 pro on it but I haven't had activation code because that shit cost $199 you literally just saved me $185 you you are the man my friend and I appreciate the pure 💩 out of you!!!!!!!!
Everyone: "Don't buy an on-the-shelf PC because you can't upgrade them!"
This guy: "Buy an on-the-shelf PC and upgrade it!"
I'm confused as hell now. lol 🤔
Why am I watching this ? I don't even have 50$
Btw, i5 6500 has intel igpu so this pc has quick sync and also you can get a cheap riser and put one fan gpu vertically for same price
I'm glad people are still doing these up-cycle builds. Tired of the "we're doing a budget build today, and we are limiting ourselves to only $3000, so unfortunately it won't be able to do 4k 120hz with ray tracing" 🤷
3000 can do 120hz 4k ray tracing
@@jerdojo4524 you completely missed the point dude
@@Irishrebel092 Just saying
Except there isn’t 16 gigabytes of ram. Source: 2:49, says 4gb right on it and other shots of the computer show only 2 slots being used. That’s also ddr3 ram.
Damn I used to watch these videos religiously before I got my gaming pc damn to y’all broke boys who still in high school like me when I was a kid u gone get it man just wait your turn
You did a good job spray painting that thing
The rx 6400 is a very nice card, since it's rdna2 it even supports Ray tracing although it's not very good unless you're playing minecraft rtx at 720p
You can still stick a bigger graphics card in by cutting the case, just tape around the cut edges so the back of the gpu doesn't short lol
Might even improve performance a tiny bit since the gpu can pull in a little air from outside the case. You can also cut a slit in the case and pass a riser cable through it, and just have your gpu sitting outside the case if you really don't care about asthetics
Lol I've seen some pictures, not my style!
I have an Elitedesk HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Small Form Factor Business PC with a 512 SSD and 32gb of ram, I will definetly put one of those 2 GPUs in to make it somewhat useful. Thanks Zack!!
I know that I often say something like this...but these ultra-budget builds REALLY scratch an itch for my inner DIYer-cheapskate!!!
Glad to hear it, I'll keep making them!
It's sort of funny how what we see as an acceptable framerate has changed. It used to always be 60fps, you're golden (or admittedly more like 80 in the CRT days). Now a consistent 60 is the *bare minimum* and anything below is totally unplayable.
Good paintjob,
That’s a fantastic idea.
I was looking at the thumbnail and thinking that's a nice clean case design
Picked up a little single fan 1650 for $50 yesterday for an ultra budget build.
@cyanic honestly I was a little mad cuz the picture was a 1650 super, but the ad said 1650 and $50 is good either way.
Wow that's a great find!
first time listener you gave a ideal and in the future would like to ask about a ideal great show will be talking soon merry christmas
dude thank you for the OptiPlex reference i went far my guy, thank you
If you want super clean edges, frog tape from home depot works fantastic. Run something over the edge of the tape to make sure it's flat then wipe it with a damp cloth- and that activates the paint block formulated into the adhesive, which will give you razor sharp edge👍
This is exactly the video I needed! My fiance wanted a PC to play on the D&D VTT Talespire, so this is perfect for that!
The paint job really carries the build. But that's an awesome system. Glad there are still affordable pcs in the day and age of the Xbox series S.
everyone gets a once in a life time deal in facebook marketplace but you actually built something repeatable
Nice video, GTX 1650 does better with PCIe 3.0, but it's hard to find for a good price. RX 6400 easy to get new for around $150.
P.S. I also recently upgraded office computer.
Very nice! What's inside yours?
@@ZachsTechTurf I upgraded HP EliteDesk 600 G1, specs: i7 4790, 8gb ram, RX 6400
@@Tech.Closet The HP builds, particularly the mid towers are great to upgrade. I recently got a Prodesk with an i5-6500 which I slapped a 1050ti in. However looking at the connections a PSU swap and better GPU may be on the cards.
@@rmgaminguk7079 Hello. Try the rx6400. You can keep the original psu with this one.
Very cool to see content focused on accessibility. Great job!
I got the same pc but refurbished with 32gb ram,i7 7700 and 1TB SSD but I always knew I could definitely make it twice as better if I get a small gpu but I didn't think it was possible until now, thanks!
I personally always buy someone else's used PC gaming build when I need to upgrade. After some time a deal always comes up if you are patient
1:42 This is why you're my favorite youtuber lol
When Intel cancelled Optane, their SSD division branched off from them and was acquired by SK hynix, taking on the name Solidigm. So, solid pedigree and performance at no-name prices. Win-win for early adopters.
I got an HP computer lol, thanks for the idea of spray painting
You can get cheaper ones with a slightly worse CPU(intel core i5-6500) and they are the HP EliteDesk 800 G2
