I think that some people just don’t see that with the introduction of nil high school recruiting is now just like pro sports free agency. Coaches can only do so much when money is involved. Arkansas made an offer that no other school was willing to match. I wouldn’t be surprised if the kid takes the money and in a few years transfers to where he really wanted to go. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a Nole 2-3 years from now.
That’s what I keep trying to tell everybody they want to continue to look at this from the standpoint of these kids being student athletes and they’re not anymore. They are now professionally payed athletes maybe at a junior level, but professional nonetheless.

@@jabareo I don’t totally disagree. Although if Norvell feels like he was played such in the Travis Hunter, KJ Bolden cases. Then they won’t be wearing Garnet & Gold as long as Norvell is the HC.
We won 23 games in two years with “inferior talent”. I’m beginning to question these player rankings and evaluations.
Me too because half of these kids who turn Florida State down I never really end up hearing about them again once they do or either they wind up at Florida State via the transfer portal

I’d put it more on the actual staffs doing there job/ not doing it. Perfect example Miami. Higher blue chip ratio than us but weve beat them multiple years in a row and they continuously lose games they shouldn’t . That’s on Mario . We should be glad to have the XO’s staff we do but the recruiting for LB has just been atrocious

I should just say Georgia was recruiting this kid as well as a few other schools. I’m never worried about this anymore. You give them a year or two to mature. They hit the transfer portal and wind up at Florida State anyway all I can say is everybody needs to come to grips with the new age of college recruiting free agency and big money in college football has changed the landscape drastically. they say the transfer portal method isn’t sustainable, but I think people are gonna find out that if you a school that can pitch yourself as a premier destination for kids to land at out of the portal if the schools they commit to, don’t work out very sustainable, and I think Mike Norville is the first coach in the country to prove me right. there’s not very many coaches who would turn their nose up at the opportunity to take a few four or five star recruits out of the portal Dabo Sweeney being the exception.

Move Coach Shannon to another staff position and bring in a guy who can get it done with recruiting at the LB position. He has proven he cannot effectively sell the program and that position on our team to prospective players.

This is 100% the truth. Our recruiting is unacceptable. When Jimbo was here. That's the way we expect to recruit
This season will actually be the first season we get to see is developmental skills with linebackers that have been at Florida State since being recruited out of high school.
I mean what percentage of credit would you give him for developing Tatum Bethune who is already a starting linebacker in college?

Just a reminder: last year UGA lost the #1 QB that had been committed to them for a year to Nebraska! NEBRASKA!!! Losing a couple kids isn’t the end of the world.

But I until we recruit at a top 5 level we won’t consistently win against those teams recruiting at that same level. Yea we may keep it close and win a playoff game or even win it all one singular year . But we’ll never have a dominant FSU dynasty that can win multiple chips periodically without those too recruits consistently coming In

Ernie Sims is there and Buster Davis is coaching in Georgia bring him back! I see alot of confusion on twitter that if you say anything about this team IMPROVING in an area as hatred. If you're not doing your job EVERYONE gets held accountable and FIRED, even in college football! This is a results based world, nuce guys are nice but finishers and closers CLOSE! All of this pitty party for Randy doesn't win CHAMPIONSHIPS and average LBs dont make plays when a play is to be made. Their are top LBS still available NOW! Fsu better get off its high horse and either break 🍞 or get out of the way and let UCF, the gators or Miami get the top kids! Its ridiculous, I couldn't name a top LB that went to Arkansas!

My thing is they act like we are intentionally going really far away to recruit guys. The fact is we are recruiting everyone, doesn't matter where. I think this instance shows us that to be the case. We are hitting everyone up. And this guy showed interest. So we pursued him!

@@morganwartman8507 What? do some research dude. Arkansas has Tyson, Jerry Jones, Waltons (WalMart), the Stevens, JB Hunt....several billionairs. FSU is not anywhere in the money league that Arkansas boosters are. The problem is the boosters at Arkansas don't support Pittman so don't give very much. But if it come down to it FSU money doesn't even partially compete with Arkansas money. Not even close.
Randy is an ok coach at positional coaching, but dude sleeps through recruiting. I'm not saying fire him. I'm saying bring on a guy to help him recruit. A schedule keeper or whatever is needed to help Randy. However, if you see an upgrade available, take him.
I think Randy was coaching LBs last year and deloach made the biggest play at Clemson and in the acc championship Bethune made the game winning play. Calm down there are grown ass men that will come to Tallahassee

Ok my take is that dissing FSU as a recruit is trending and everyone is doing it back to back years with 5 stars flipping on signing day it’s just how it is we don’t get money like SEC schools do if you don’t believe me go to on3 portal rankings and look at schools from SEC and schools from ACC it is drastic

I think more times than not, you can't say that the staff gets played only. The local media gets played too. They chase these prospects around after unofficial and official visits, ask the same questions and then all of the FSU podcast and say their "sources" or even the prospects themselves tell them something and it is taken as gospel. Just like we "missed" on Wallace when you all believed we would get him, we got CJ Wiley when NO ONE thought he would commit to us. For now in early July, it's all good..just keep recruiting him and rest of the ones we want and got and we will see what happens in December.
This was brutal. Sorry, you wasted your time yesterday. I'm shocked we went 0-3 on LBs (but not really). I don't think any of these guys' recruitment is over. Games will be played. Ark might only win 5 games at best this year.

KJ’s final media interview at FSU told me that something wasn’t on the up and up. His response about staying true to his commitment was blatantly concerning.
I disagree, we should fire the ACC if we want to seriously compete with the SEC and BIG10! All the best recruits don't want to play for the ACC! There's not enough money or prestige in the ACC to attract the best athletes!!!
And that’s what I think a lot of it is people aren’t looking at the fact either that recruiting has changed so much Florida State is pretty competitive in the NL department so I know money isn’t it clearly everybody saw one of the best defenses in the country on display last year so these recruits know they’re going to get developed and they can shine. I think when we leave the ACC, we see a dramatic change, when it comes to elevating the recruitment of students from the high school ranks hail we’re in the ACC and things have drastically improved overall.

You do bring up a good point. Why does the FSU staff seem to keep getting fooled or even trolled by recruits. I'm not big on continuing to pursue a kid after they do that to the program also. I'd prefer to write them off. Don't have to be rude to the kid, but no thanks.

Very well said my man. I was saying the exact same thing yesterday. Randy is a good guy, has tons of knowledge and is a perfect fit as far as representing the program but speaking on things I'm aware of Randy is more of a quiet person and doesn't relate to kids that well. We lost Tavion strictly on relationships. We desperately needed 2-3 lbs in this class. And unfortunately that's not going to happen. But I definitely agree a change needs to be made. This lb class is history so after this upcoming yr I see Mike moving forward without him.. Noles4Life!! One more thing I will add... We all knew a change had to be done with the secondary, and Mike brings the goat in Surtain. Which has been a home run hire. This kind of falls in the same situation. And just saying Mike would have plenty of options on bringing in a new lbs coach that not only can develop, but can form outstanding relationships. Our lb recruiting is so below avg not only for FSU but for all the other top programs. Very disappointing that a brand like FSU yr in and out we still cannot land elite lbs. I personally had us taking 2-3 lbs this class and now it's looking like we will end up with one so I guess they will once again have to fall back and hope for a portal transfer smh..Big reason why FSU still has that negative recruiting against them..But like you said... Randy is Randy and we all know Mike is well aware of this..Go Noles!!!
The Tavion situation is more NIL than relationship IMO. He could have selected Georgia. The fact that he spurned FSU and Georgia for Arkansas.......I very seriously doubt it was due to relationship. That being said, Randy has to go.

This is a MONEY issue on how much the other teams are offering. Focus on 3 stars that can be developed or grab an experienced guy in the portal. High star freshman who does not get to lay the 1st year are just going to hit the portal anyway so why waste your time. A LB out of high school is NEVER going to start and has to be developed.

What's the standard though TJ? One Miss? Two misses? Three misses? You say you trust Norvell and then you say you don't blame Shannon. The logical link is to put the blame on Norvell.
Perhaps Mike was willing to do the same thing that you're claiming not to do now and that is blame Randy.
Mike is certainly not going to fire Randy now, at this point in time in the year. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see after the season whether or not he thinks Randy can handle ALL The responsibilities of his position.

Let's stop this right now, it's always funny to me how these recruits make these all of a sudden changes/decisions. But somehow we criticize the coach/coaching staff for it, these kids make those choices. All the while, FSU is in the right position & doing all the right things. Then at the last minute, they get swerved for whatever reason. Bottom line is either you wanna come to FSU.....or you don't! There's no in between, plain & simple! Go Noles!!!
I don't know who to blame, but watching former commits walk away is frustrating. However, I really don't care because if a kid is going to a school for a paycheck and not because he wants to be part of a great team, I'm sorry bye. Cormani McClain is the perfect example the kid had no love for the program and maybe it had nothing to do with NIL. Then you have Jared Verse recruited from a lower level school and that man bleed for this team and is a Nole for life. I'm still of the mindset that if a kid gives a verbal commitment to a program and is offered a NIL deal that should remove them from the recruitment pool altogether. If you want to overcomplicate and fuck things up just involve money it will get out of hand quickly.
The recruit far cause we gotta show we can recruit players in other states not just Florida.. every one try’s to recruit from different states as well .. but for us Lb recruiting goes fire Randy that will solve that problem quickly

So we need some changes in recruiting? Yes, but in reality, a freshman contributing is a drop in the bucket. I think they will fill some needs in the portal and we will be fine. Remember when Marvin Jones Jr. went to UGA, the sky was falling. Now look where he is. Thats the issue with stocking your team with highly rated recruits. There are only 11 positions and starters shine. In the age of NIL, there really isnt much loyalty on these SEC teams. Just sit back and watch.
Recruiting means nothing. As long as you can take a three star and develop him into a 4-5 star that’s all that matters. If your a great developer and just a so so recruiter that’s a thousand times better then being a great recruiter and a shit developer.

Everyone is playing the game to make as much money as possible this isn't about football and who the best team is anymore this is a game about money. Also nothing is official until the ink dries... Where do we go ? Not even a relevant question . The Seminoles , go down the same path they been going . Mersanary players come and go who cares ? The program is always losing and gaining recruits . FSU stock is going up. I'm buying in.
Randy is fine. Keep doing what you do in developing. The job is to make the players who do come better. Randy is great at that. If a kid chooses to go elsewhere it's not the coach to blame. If the player thinks grass is greener let them go. We can always get them back in the portal.
We are the portal King. I want the top talent from high school but if the kids do not want to work their butt's off. Let them chase something else.
Let's not get too emotionally attached to kids decisions. If we go down that road it's gonna be tough. Let's focus on the kids who do sign and show up to storms training camp when that time comes.

Portal king? The lack of talen in the portal this year was obvious. FSU ranked high in the portal because they snagged a bunch of blue chippers with absolutely no playing experience. This year on the field you will see the drastic decline in talent on the field and wish this staff did a better job a high school recruiting because it will greatly affect next year . I predict the next two seasons for FSU will be medicore at best , save this post and get at me at the end .
No need to save…but I bet you won’t have the guts to admit you’re wrong when FSU is a Playiff team. There’s no way the Committee can steal their spot this season

Same way I haven't bet on the miami Vs Fsu for the past 2 years because talent differential going FSU'S way. I love my Canes but Money comes first. This year I like Miami'S talent over Fsu so I will bet again this year. I've been betting on this rivarly over the past 10 years and I'm at 80% profit as of now . I'm taking all bets. Ps to make the playoffs you will have to win the ACC I don't think FSU is better then Clemson or Miami this year just my opionion.
I agree with the unproven portion of the comment. The pieces have potential to be special though. Elite speed for the WR room, running back room returns 1, but an Alabama transfer caliber player and a true freshman that looks like a junior.
I can see us run the ball more. Defense will probably take a slight step back but with the way we rotate it will not be too noticeable.
Biggest problem is we are now in a different era. Recruiting takes time to get high school bodies ready to play in college. Portal is a speed pass getting proven ready to go college players. No other team has used the portal better than Norvell. We should have been allowed to compete for the title and prove his product that was undefeated in the regular season. We were mismanaged in the previous two administrations. Novell did the impossible. Not possible without the portal.

Clemson will have a tough defense as usual. Offense is in trouble. Shipley has been like 70 percent of their Offense. He is gone. QB is not that great. Not sure they have many proven players on the offensive side of the ball. Clemson insider article states they are banking on Klubnic taking a huge step forward. Wait that doesn't sound like proven talent either. I look for Clemson to have to find someone to fill the vacancy of Shipley who was special. Can it happen yes, but they have more questions than Florida State does in my opinion. Yes Florida State has to see how new pieces are going to fit together which is fair but Clemson has returners that are still not proven anything.
Looking at who they played how many losses I would say they are set for another tough season losing players but refusing to take partial players.

@@robcastagna7548 Fisk and Colman helped that situation, Bowden didn’t have the same juice as he got older, I’m over 50 and I will tell you, playing games with teenagers is hard to do when you are a layed back type of guy. Blake was easier because of the help Randy received.

I don’t like knocking the coaches but we know that Fuller is a great coach but not a great recruiter and Randy Shannon doesn’t compensate for that AT ALL. So what is he bringing?
