- Here is the full barn restoration time lapse video! this time lapse video takes place over a whole summer. The full barn restoration was very difficult because we had to do it when we had time after work and on the weekends. I hope you enjoy this time lapse!
When I see these old barns and think about the people who constructed them, working hard to fulfill their dreams to run a homestead/farm and support their families, then think about the toll the years take on these old buildings as they sit unused, sagging and decaying - then I see people like you who are literally raising up the heads of these legacies of the past, preserving them and making them useful again. Just moves me so much!
?
SHould watch Carl Rogers video of him restoring an old french barn with his dad. Awesome stuff.
I love driving down an old country road (like on my way to work 😅) and seeing old barns. So much history and love in them. Can not wait until we have our own.
I bet your glad that you did this back when the wood prices were rock bottom.
Yes for sure! The lumber prices are starting to creep back down around here. Hopefully i can get started back on all the projects i have planned to do. LOL!
No question it’s a great job. U saved a part of history. Just to be extra safe...no one should be on the opposite side when an electric power nailer is being used.
You did an insanely good job!! That project was very well done!!! Seems like too many people forget about their barns and let them rot. I’m glad you are restoring your barn the right way!
Thank you so much!
Love it when old barns get a new lease on life, fantastic job. Renew not build new....peace.
Easy to do when you have helpfull family. Great to se that is everybody involve in this. Wish you all best. Keep that great work.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for posting....wonderful family effort
I love that you restored this bard. Very nice!
Nice to see the whole family pitching in to help you
Kids working. Americas Favorite pastime!!!
This was great. Thanks for sharing.
Nice job with the Family. Regards from Germany.
Holy moly that's a lot of work
It was for sure! It’s an on going project! Lol!
I love the kids doing squats with the 2x4s
I just subscribe to you. Hope you become a youtuber. Love the video of family helping out. God bless and one last thing. The music is awesome with the video.
The song on 9:35 🙌💫🍃 the barn become awesome!!!👏👏
hope u become a great UA-camer one day!!keep up the good job❤❤
Thank you for the kind words!
@@TheHobbyFarmHomestead how is the plywood style siding holding up with no vertical supports between sheets. Been thinking of doing it to my pole barn that im building.
@@bobbybass7518 yeah it does. You have to get it stained or painted pretty quick after you put it up.
Great video brother
Thanks my friend!
Great team work.
Thank you!
Great video great job on the construction thanks for sharing all this but the music at times was a little difficult!! 👍👍👍😎🇨🇱
Loved the video, awesome project, great music. Thanks for sharing! It's annoying how much criticism these types of videos get. You burn a bunch of rotten wood soaked in horse feces, and people act like it's made out of GME stock. Everyone's an expert I guess.
Good job
Thanks
Cool 😎 nice music
Nice working skill😍.I like it.fantastic
Thank you for the support!
💪with you !💕
Man I see you burning that barn wood and just see $$$ singing here in California people pay big big $$$$ for that reclaimed wood its nuts but truly understand and love thg he video great work keep it up
That's the first thing I spotted, I hope they're going to recycle that BARN WOOD! No, they burned it,, we don't do that in California, we will dismantle it for for the wood....Great job on the finished project...
@@sherriestockdale7038 the burn is a good protection of the wood. It is just the top layer. Nothing can save sever rot.
@@sherriestockdale7038 this wood is fragile, half-rotted, and likely caked in moss/lichen and animal shit. It won't really be good for anything- we redid our 40 year old run-in shed a few months ago, and all the wood from the back was just cracking into pieces as we pulled it off, no way it would've held nails or screws. It lasts better in drier climates (like Cali), but anywhere wet or termite-prone, you can kiss the barn wood you pull off goodbye, unless it's less than 20ish years old.
v You have left the long base axis on both sides, without any type of protection such as tar, in contact with the ground;
as well as the boards on the sides, in their lower part and the support poles ...
But protect at least the first 50cm with specific products
And impregnate everything else ...
Nice job.
Great Job 🙌🏻👍🏽
If you char the boards with a weed burning torch , they become water resistant and water will bead off of them like water off a duck's back.
And if you paint it, it does a better job of protecting it and you don't run the risk of burning it down. What an insanely stupid suggestion.
@@farmerbill6855 not stupid - Japanese have been doing it for centuries but yes let's slap on a toxic coat of chemicals that needs doing multiple times a decade. See not so nice when someone shits all over your suggestion is it?
@@classicambo9781 ever see a barn burn down? You cannot put them out. Say what you like, still an insanely stupid idea. No matter what the Japanese do.
@@farmerbill6855 The Japanese have been charring exterior boards they put on buildings for hundreds of years and are known to master woodworkers and engineers, so I'm sure they are more knowledgeable than you! And I didn't even imply charring the boards after they where already installed.
@@mrMacGoover Yea, such a good method it's practiced all over the world, right? Nothing against the Japanese, they make great cars, but thousands of years of civilization and they couldn't come up with a fork? Not all of their ideas are gems.
As for toxic, with the Creosote in the posts, the zinc chromate and copper sulphate in the treated wood, and the formaldehyde in the resin holding the plywood together, that ship has sailed. In addition, a nice coat of white paint looks much better than it looking like it's been on fire.
ay who ever chose the music for this video is a legend
I’m building a 30x40 shop at the moment. Steel trusses and metal siding. Been over a year in the making. Cant wait till it’s done.
That’s awesome! Hope it turns out great for you.
Greatings from Germany.
Hello! How’s things across the pound?
I can imagine it was so fun doing this with your family
You guys did a really good job on that barn!
Thank you very much!
Just a thought but I think the reason why the bottom of the outside wall rotted away so bad was because there wasn't much of a roof overhang.
That and it never had any gutters on it. That has been since taken care of. Thanks for the support!
Yes yes yes.... Watching now
The kids pretending to work out with the 2x4s is funny
They are goof balls!
2:25 A crack in the wall looks like a dog! 😊🐶
Good job. Only thing that gets me is why waste roofing iron?
Well we saved a lot of it and sold it to help with the costs of the structural lumber. I would of loved to completely disassemble it piece by piece but I just didn’t have the help nor the time to do that. Thanks for watching!
How are you protecting the bottom edge of that siding?
There not a whole lot to do there other than sealing it like we did. We tried to keep it up off the ground as much as we could. I wanted to put metal siding on it but the cost was to high.
Hello from Romania by Ferma Gradina Bio!
Welcome to the channel
Why'd you tear down half the barn making it alot smaller?
That part of the barn was heavily damaged from rot and wasn’t repairable.
“Whatcha gonna do with the old lumber?”
*lights match*
👀
Sold some and burned some!
Great job and video! Do you remember how much those big treated pieces at the bottom cost? I need to do something similar for my barn.
That was during the lumber shortage so I think I paid around 50$ for them. That was two years ago to so I am not sure on the price now.
Why no windows in restoration?
I plan on putting them back in this summer.
We had a barn similar to that one...It burn to the ground in less than 30 mins...
Oh no! I am sry to here that.
Love all the armchair experts in the comments... Wood that old that's been in a damp and/or termite-prone climate isn't good for anything- it's flimsy and fragile. We redid our 40 year old run in shed a few months ago and all the wood was just cracking and coming apart as we pulled it off. Couldn't have put a nail or screw in it and expected it to hold. So we burned it to get rid of it. Looks like about the same situation here. Finished barn looks great!
How old is this barn just want to know really enjoyed watching this video
It’s around 60 years old. Thanks for watching!
Love how the girls where training with the 2×4×10...
👍👍💕
What no after shot whaaaAaa
Working on that video!
Not quite "FULL" barn, he removed one section. And not full "Restoration", windows not put back in. But it is an improvement to what it was.
9:20 - what is that that you put down? It looks like it packs in nicely! Great timelapse. The barn looks amazing!
It is called slag. It comes from the steel mill and it does pack good. It will get as hard as concrete if tamped.
@@TheHobbyFarmHomestead A truck hauling slag on one of our roadways lost some, and it resulted in many flat tires that day. It made all the local news. Is it sharp and possible to damage tires?
No it isn’t sharp no more than limestone is.
@@TheHobbyFarmHomesteadThanks!
if you put it in .25 speed you can see non timelapse footage
All the videos of doing the restoration are in the play list under horse barn building.
I saw a ton of estrogen, (I'm praying for you my brother) but not an ounce of rebar on that pour. What's up with that?
?
@@TheHobbyFarmHomestead You are surrounded by way TOO MANY WOMEN. I am praying for you. That was my point.
Separate issue..... Reinforcement bars in concrete pour.. I didn't see any.
@@paulnueberg742 now I understand! Lol! We put wire in the concrete plus fiber mesh. Hopefully that will do the job. Thanks for the support!
@@TheHobbyFarmHomestead My pleasure. Still praying 4 u tho.. ;)
That's not a barn, that's a shed. Nice job though.
Barns are like garages they are never big enough. LOL!
@@TheHobbyFarmHomestead One thing is for sure, you cannot build a barn big enough, ever.
La pièce musicale est ARMS OF GOLD (instrumental) de Tape machines
😲😲😲😲😲👍👍👍👍👍
One day people restore abandoned things from the barn and the next day they restore the barn itself.
Windows????
yes we are going to reinstall the windows we took off.
Am I the only one that thinks the first time lapse song sounds like Crab Rave?
You should have chat the bottom off of that rotted wall
thats about a million in lumber these days😜
I hear that! LOL!
Wouldn't it of been better to build it from scratch with how rotten most of the wood is
Well yes it would of but it was my wife’s father’s barn and I wanted to bring it back to life for here.
Standing on the top step of that ladder is just begging for a trip to the hospital. Just sayin.
You got that right!
Music credits?
See : Bcbloc2 - BARN REHAB ..!! IT IS THE SHIZZLE....!! THATS GOT TO BE THE MOST ADVENTUROUS ONE MAN BARN REHAB ON FILE..!!,
Looks good
I would have just patched it up
I thought about doing that but I needed to fix the posts that where rotten at the bottom.
@@TheHobbyFarmHomestead yeah the reason I would patch it is because I’m bad at woodworking, you did a terrific job though!
@@einhundertfunfzig4919 Thank you very much!
Love the video, but the music was insane, just didnt go with the video and was way too loud.
In-laws?, Don't you mean out-laws
I downvoted your video because you put wood against dirt. It doesn't matter that you used treated lumber - you should put in effort to build for the ages, not the range of the moment. A few bags of concrete wouldn't have cost much.
That’s ok! I appreciate the view with constructive criticism!
When my father in law past he didn’t have much but what he did have was just enough to repair his barn. I am well aware of what it takes to build for the ages but I still respect good knowledge! Thanks for watching!
@@TheHobbyFarmHomestead Because you replied kindly, I'm changing my vote to a thumbs up ❤
Error filmar de noche
I know filming at night isn’t really good but it gets dark so early right now. I don’t have much choice. Thanks for watching!
All that roofing metal you wasted..I should be reused as siding or stock shelters. No true farmer wastes a resource. Tut tut.
I saved 80% of it and gave it to my buddy to reuse on his chicken coops. The other 20% was to damaged or rotted to reuse. The stuff on the back of the barn that was tore down was no good. Thanks for stopping by!
No true farmer reuses rusted barn metal. Fix it once and move on.
It would be easier to demolish the entire barn and rebuild the barn
But it would be more expensive in the long run-many places tax the barn on date of build, an older barn date has less tax than a new one.
@@cathiwim lmao taxing barns? is that a joke
@@Fanaz10 you somehow think barns are exempt from property tax? Not a very deep thinker, are you?
@@farmerbill6855 property tax? is that another joke?
A even good homesteader would have kept the barn wood. you are going to regret burning up all your assets
Well not sure what to do with rotten termite infested wood. I don’t think there is much structural strength in it anymore. I certainly wouldn’t build anything out of it and I would definitely not sell it to someone. Therefore in the burn it goes! Thanks for watching!
Lovely video yet i dont understand why you bury the metalsheets from the roof...
The recycle companys around me would not take it, so i just buried it. Thanks for watching!
