It made me sad to hear the person in the third story characterized as a “murderous psychopath” and the man who died spoken of with so much sympathy. He was sexually assaulting that guy and he defended himself.
If he’d gone to the police with the situation, legally he shouldn’t have even been in trouble. Outside of this incident, I don’t know if the cellie was a good guy or not, but assault victims shouldn’t be characterized as the wrong doer.

Agreed. Had he reported it immediately instead of trying to cover it up, he would not have been arrested. if he reported it after he was caught, they may have still charged him with a minimal offense like desecration of a corpse as it could have uncovered all sorts of evidence of other SA or worse. He didn't steal the guys truck or rob him. They might have believed him after all, 16 year olds usually don't randomly kill people .
Instead of worrying about the predators family, he should be thanking God for all the other kids and their families. This guy was probably a serial killer for all we know. The narrator was his cellmate, what did he really do to end up in the same cell as a murderer .

To the guy in the 1st story, truthfully, you were practically a bullet away from death, glen's actions were completely senseless and truly didn't have to happen. With that being said you had absolutely every right to disassociate yourself from someone like that, that situation almost turned deadily and all because he some how felt antagonizing someone is "funny". You never truly know who you're dealing with so it's wise to be respectful to those around you.

True, but infuriating thing is that he would most certainly get a life sentence for doing what he did to that old creep. He possibly could have gotten off if he didn't push the guy off the cliff, but I wouldn't count on it. Sometimes the law needs to look at something as justice served instead of jamming a guy up for defending himself. A person shouldn't have to wonder if they will get in trouble for defending themselves. That split second of hesitation is often the difference between life and death.

i feel like it adds a good amount of lead up though. Like, really helped to set the scene and allow us to get more familiar with the characters, as opposed to "on the way back home from las vegas, my longtime friend decided to be an asshole with my new car and almost got us killed by a stranger."
That's not as interesting or as satisfying to read/listen to.

Yeah...legal gambling age in Nevada is 21. Unless these two were serious underachievers who were held back at least 3 times, they wouldn't be able to do the things they claimed right after graduating. Though I have, sadly, heard of parents that enable their barely adult offspring by buying them a fast car or giving them exorbitant amounts of money, so that part is believable. So is the part about the friend being a sociopath. My brother had three friends like that when we were young -- at the same time. They walk among us.

    The second guy..😄
“I hoped that one day, before I was too old, I’d be able to make it back to the Capitol....if only for a visit”...yes, it was a 4 full hours away....but I’d better break up with my girlfriend for a few hours, say goodbye to my favorite cashier at the local, metropolitan 7-11 & try & grab a snoot full of that big city trucker speed.... to attempt to stay alert during the grueling trek toward my ol’, lame hometown.
Then someone ran over a guy & just kept going.
What happens on 64 west, stays on 64 west.
I decided that I’d be no help as a witness, even though I literally witnessed the whole terrible accident...
...but the past is the past!
and i totally have a wife now. she’s a human, in case you were wondering. and she’s def real.
