    Oda was asked a long time ago, why the rivals are not dying..and he replied :- In this world of pirates, everyone is going after their dreams, when they are defeated, its more of their dream getting destroyed, that is death to them, the body is just a husk afterwards.

    When you enter the Grandline it’s very hard to return to one of the Blue’s. If you’re entering for the first time the best case scenario is it’s going to be years before you can return and the most likely scenario is you never leave it. When Usopp is saying goodbye to Kaya he understands there’s a very good chance it’s goodbye forever.
    Also Kuina is dead. It’s not a misdirect. In the manga/anime her dead body is shown as Zoro sees it.

    Kuina's death is referred to as she *fell down D. Stairs* Getting a wetstone for the sword. Her body is shown in the manga. Kuina's father tells Zoro, life can be so fragile and he is thankful to him because before he arrived Kuina had become cocky and Zoro was catching up quickly, which reignited her passion to grow stronger and she was desperately trying to keep the gap between them.
    Her sudden death is just to symbolize, doesnt matter how strong u are, you can just die, so he has to be the strongest, stronger then death, which explains alot of his actions later.

      Just to show the insane juxtaposition that her sudden death due to fate with Zoro beating fate so it doesn’t kill him, Zoro has never lost a fight after vowing it aloud as a solemn promise. But also, he’s a doofus who’s constantly lost, tried using 3 swords after Kuina beat him and he thought more can do it, and also the most loyal friend a person could have if he considers you one.

    I know I shouldn't be annoyed by this cause so many people are watching it for the first time, but I am annoyed by how many times I need to say that Kuina died in Zoro's flashback. She has been ever since the manga first established it and Oda has to confirm it again later at some point.
    Just so people know this part of the manga was written back in the 90s it was targeted for young boys and Oda was sort of new to this.
    I feel like a story nowadays in order to pull something similar to Zoro's backstory need to at least show the person dying.

    Bruhhhh im super progressive as well but l, even though im not a swordsman myself, have seen plenty of videos about it and know that men just have larger reach than women, and combined with general strength is why men have advantage over women. Don't let the wokeness cloud your common sense 😭😭 lol Kuina's doubts make sense. With technique and skill, she could overcome those weaknesses, but it is still a valid doubt to have.
    Knowing about how important reach is made that moment so tough, when she voices how she thinks Zoro will inevitably be better than her, so it hits the heart better when Zoro commits to training with her every day. So while the diologue might seem out of touch and may seem out of place in the now and day, they let it be because it is a realistic obstacle with any hand to hand combat (weapon or not). "A girl can beat a man, but no woman can beat a man". Like, its not exclusively true, but in her mind its a mountain. Their height, reach, strength will always be an advantage. Im confused as to Morgan and the others reactions to that moment 🙃

    In the original Captain Kuro has a hypnotist on his crew who looks like Steven Tyler but moves like Michael Jackson. Years ago they raided a Marine ship and killed everyone except for 2. Jango hypnotizes 1 person to think he's Kuro and the other the think he caught Kuro. The latter turns out to be a nobody named Morgan. He is swiftly promoted for a deed he never accomplished. This explanation happens so fast it's easy to miss but in retrospect explains why Captain Morgan is both arrogant and not cut out for a role he never earned. Just one small detail that interconnects characters in a deeper way that's not necessary but Oda fills all over 1000 chapters with.

    in the manga it's explained that Kuro can move at high speed, but does not have the training needed to actually control himself at the same time - so he goes fast, slices people, but is totally indiscriminate about it, hitting the walls of the small canyon they fight in, and even slicing his crew up. The arc in the live action is interesting enough, and i know they would have been constrained in many ways, but i feel like Kuro was done a bit dirty.

  • @LordZeebee
    @LordZeebee 10 місяців тому +17

    Well the story does get veeeeeery explicitly political and anti-fascist later on but right now we're still in the kiddie-pool, so to speak. There's a little bit of it towards the end of this season but nothing compared to what'll come later. Like without spoiling anything, the manga is currently in the middle of a flashback to how exactly a veeeery plot-relevant antifa militia formed a few decades ago and how that relates to some of the key characters in the story. If there's one thing you'll come to learn about Oda, it's that the man is not exactly a fan of being subtle lol.

  • @XxHunterDarkDragonX8

    On Zoro's Flashback and Kuina, I think I underestimated how much my knowledge of the manga made me overlook certain parts, mind you, I do think episodes 3 and 4 are the sloppiest of the live action, but I do want to mention a couple of things that didn't make it to the adaptation that I feel color the backstory differently. So, the guy with glasses in Zoro's flashback is not only the master of the school, he is actually Kuina's dad. At one point, Kuina confronts him on why he won't train her like the other boys, and he tells her to her face It's because she's a girl, and she'll never get to be as strong as a man, so, ehn she repeats that after she beats Zoro, it comes off less like that It's something she believes and more like something she's resigned herself to after her own fatter and master told her. On her dead, I don't think I can call it anything other than fridging; yes, she dies falling down the starii off camara, and her death is done to inform Zoro's character more than anything--for Zoro, death is a mundane thing that can happen at any point and for any reason, without any glory. Not accomplishing his dream is a faith worse than death for him, that's why Kuina's dead is almost comically sudden and mundane. I'm not saying it can't be criticized, but I would argue is better in the manga/anime and sadly got lost in the time limitations of this adaptation.

    @Sean TankTop,
    18:55 Only the Royal Family and the really rich in Japan got to bury their bodies, everyone else got the crematorium.
    24:15 Everyone in this show is really sticking to their themes. Kuro and his minions are Black Cats, and in cat fashion, they like to play with their food.
    26:54 He's a different kind of pirate, remember? Young Luffy would have wanted to gut this guy, that Luffy learned the hard way what that mindset leads to, destruction. The man that kidnapped Luffy got his crew and himself killed, he likely died a horrible death beneath the sea. Worse still, Luffy cost Shanks an arm.
    27:33 Kuro was an idiot. Had he let Luffy finish his pitch, Kaya would have given Luffy the boat and he and his friends would have been out of their and Kaya would have been all his.
    It seems as though Kuro faked his death, and made his way to Syrup village and worked his way into Kaya's family as help. We heard him during his fight with Luffy about how hard it was being a pirate captain, always having to watch over your back and killing crew always trying to take command. Kuro got tired of that. He wanted to retire, and he was planning to live out the rest of his days in Kaya's home with her wealth.
    Now he's got a bigger price on his head and he's got to keep running since everyone knows he's alive and well.
    29:51 Keep in mind that Luffy was called an orphan, early on. Sounds like he didn't stay home much. He tried living amongst pirates because he wanted to be one, and he emulated the people he saw and respected. We only saw his time with Shanks, and Shanks was the one to convince that what he had seen before was wrong. I don't mind the accent myself, as people do emulate the people they are around especially children. Accents set in for most at around 12, and they're pretty hard to change for some people.

    The maid and chef weren’t a maid and chef in the anime. They were just members of Kuro’s large pirate crew that came to attack the whole village, with Kaya being the main target. And they were both men, named the “Meowban Brothers”. Kuro’s plan made more sense in the anime because the plan was for the pirates to attack the whole village with Kaya “coincidentally” being one of the victims, and Kuro’s hypnotist first mate would hypnotize her into leaving everything to her butler in her will. Here, his plan makes no sense because they just immediately went to murdering her after sealing the house with the shutters, leaving them as the prime suspects in her murder. The anime version of this arc is better.

    Not sure how in depth the love action will go into the hidden story told throughout one piece, but yes the original gets very deep for those who wish to actually look past the surface. But that is also one of the amazing things about one piece and Oda's writing, if you want to enjoy a simple pirate story, you can, but if you want to read a beautifully crafted epic tale that is it's own journey that lies just under the surface, then all it takes is an open mind.
    I HIGHLY recommend watching Mama Drawk read and breakdown one piece because she will open your eyes to things written in the story that most simply overlook and she is brilliant!!!

    Manga soource: Kuina just fell the stairs. Her body was on the ground with a handkierchief at her face and a blanket at her legs while villagers keep arriving in awe. Zoro despairs and her father (the Master) told him about the fragility of life. Zoro ask for her sword wich blade contains her soul and wishes... And then her father training him on the next ten years. Besides in two advanced manga covers its shown her father at her grave leaving flowers, incenses, and newsspaper with news of Zoro.... So, yes she died. P.S. Whats the problem of the green hair girl? LOL! She said some stuffs so wild and out of reality! LOL!

    Imo Syrup Village was handled much better here than in the anime. Sure some details were left out, but it drags on so badly in the anime that it’s only a handful of 20 min. episodes but I can’t bring myself to watch all of them again. I’m caught up with the manga and anime, and trying to rewatch the anime from the start, but I’ve been stuck on the Syrup Village episodes for weeks. 🥲 This is luckily the only arc I’ve ever had trouble watching, though.

    I always felt like Kuina dying to stairs was hilarious because she's a freaking swordman who needs extreme balance and footwork to literally survive. Why not have her die to illness or have her snap her neck riding her favorite horse? Like literally anything but stairs, ha ha.

      I mean it does kinda sound anticlimactic and rather inane, but at the same time I love it ever since I first read about it because of how realistic it is. People die from rather mundane accidents all the time, even those who you think would be the last person who would ever die like that.

    I like how they handled Kuro's fight, specifically his speed, in the anime far more. The fight still had quite a bit of posturing of course, but his speed had a drawback to it. He would cut up *everything* while moving ridiculously fast. However, because he moves so fast, he can't really see what he's cutting or control his targets well. Comparatively, in the live action it seems like he has very good control over his movement, yet for some unknown reason holds back on impaling everyone, when it would be simple for him to do so.

  • @lonewolf9325

    Yeah, many guys have pointed Kuina's accident. Since it was written in the 97, and genre being Shonen, the accident can be viewed as, she was holding her sword, and fell down the stairs, and maybe the sword sliced here gut or neck or it went through her.
