My dad used to watch this when he was little and he told me about this show...I loved it so much I learned how to play the songs on the recorder! I’m so upset I wasn’t born in this generation.
The Friendly Giant is the best TV show ever. I've talked to dozens of harpists across Canada and they all tell me the same thing... that Early One Morning is always their most-requested song. And that's simply because, for kids from 9 to 90, it's "The Friendly Giant Song."
This was the show that inspired me to be a harpist. Not this particular episode, I remember it from its black and white incarnation from the 60s, but it was good ol' Rusty with his miniature gold harp that impressed itself on my 5 year old brain
Great show for kids. This is what they need to see more of. Real people making real facial expressions and gestures and having conversations. Not all the digitally animated crap they put out there these days.
The ending is so incredibly sad... it like those old days when you were having such a good time you didn't want to leave, and you would cry when you had to go.
This brings back great memories of being a young child. Wonderful! Does anybody else notice that Jerome the Giraffe sounds a lot like actor Jeff Goldblum?
I just watched this episode, the first one I've watched since we saw the last one nearly thirty years ago when my kids were little. It is still my favourite kid's show of all time.
I had forgotten that they could change the seasons on the way to Friendly's castle! Love the snowplow clearing the road. Rusty played the harp; I had completely forgotten...Jerome was such a character...great, beautiful music...where are today's shows like this? Ones that appeal to all ages, have cozy live-action, never talk down to the kids, and make everyone feel that there's still beauty, fun, gentleness, and security in the world. Perhaps a second or third wave of children's TV will come to succeed Friendly, Mssrs. Rogers and Dressup, Frightenstein, et.al.
Thanks so much for uploading this!. Years ago I wrote to the CBC asking them to release "Friendly Giant" to DVD so I could show my daughter. Never heard back. Too busy cutting programming and jobs, i suppose. Nice to see this again after all these years. Thanks again!!
OMG....I about forgot about this show till this video, I don't know why as I used to watch this along with Mr. Dressing and Rodgers. I loved this show...I now remember wanting my dad to build me a small city so I could pretend to be a giant...lol...thanks for this and bringing back an old memory!!
This sure brings back memories. Growing up in Canada in the 70s. This and Mr Dress Up were on daily.

I can’t believe I’m watching this after so many years....I watched this all the time when I was little. I’m getting teary eyed watching this 🥺
Watched it as a kid. I loved it, i I was abused and he was my savior
Delightful, innocent, relaxing, enriching children's show -- no agenda, no propaganda! Oh, for a return to innocence...
i was born and raised in Canada with Dutch parents...moved to Holland permanently in 1979...but i'll never forget The Friendly Giant...sweet memories
How could anyone dislike Friendly Giant! My love for classical music began here!
I still tear up when friendly says goodbye. Guess he was the ONE friendly sole that was part of my miserable childhood
i was lucky to grow up in the Detroit area. Watching this makes me remember how great the 60s were to be a kid.
Very Special show and loved it as a child years ago. Thank you Bob Homme and cast RIP Bob.

The Friendly Giant was and is an icon...one of the only CBC shows ever worth watching. Bring the original show back...we need it now more than ever.
Who would ever give this show a thumbs down?!? Like, really? Friendly Giant and Mr Dressup were awesome.
We didn't have a colour TV yet, my memories of this show in Canada were entirely in black and white.

I just watched a rooster, in a sack hung on the wall, play the harp. I never thought I'd write that. Ever.
Great show for kids. This is what they need to see more of. Real people making real facial expressions and gestures and having conversations. Not all the digitally animated crap they put out there these days.
In fact this brings me to tears of a better time.
The ending is so incredibly sad... it like those old days when you were having such a good time you didn't want to leave, and you would cry when you had to go.
R.I.P. Bob Homme (1919-2000) And Rod Coneybeare (1930-2019)

I like "The Friendly Giant"we used to watch it here from Niagara Falls,NY it's a shame they don't make programs lie this anymore.
Such happy memories watching this as a child💜
lol! Love the way jerome is dancing. I didn't know giraffe's could move like that. Then again, he is a purple one so maybe they're different.
Miss you friendly giant, rusty, jerome, and growing up in the seventies.
Funny how there was too much snow for Angie and Fiddle, yet Gerome had no trouble break dancing outside the window.
A quintessential example of classic Canadian kids TV at its easygoing finest.
How many shows for kids exposes them to such wonderful classical pieces...answer-none!
I love snow on this adventure!
Wow does this ever bring back memories.
The first television episode aired on Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) in Madison, Wisconsin 1953.
Thanks so much for uploading this!. Years ago I wrote to the CBC asking them to release "Friendly Giant" to DVD so I could show my daughter. Never heard back. Too busy cutting programming and jobs, i suppose. Nice to see this again after all these years. Thanks again!!

a little breakfast music for the kids of the 70's (& 80's)...
I miss these simple basic children's shows.
:(
Fun fact, our giant, Bob Homme is actually a fairly talented Jazz musician. He and his combo would often do the music for these sort of episodes.
I stared tearing up when the drawbridge went up😢
Thanks for posting!!
Look up.... Way up! I miss that...
I think I actually saw this episode as a kid. I remember Jerome singing "Sur le pont d'Avignon" in English
OMG....I about forgot about this show till this video, I don't know why as I used to watch this along with Mr. Dressing and Rodgers. I loved this show...I now remember wanting my dad to build me a small city so I could pretend to be a giant...lol...thanks for this and bringing back an old memory!!
I watched the show as a kid, and it Influenced me to become a harpist.
This is great. Watched it all the time, but only now do I realize that the Friendly Giant was a talented recorder player!
Grew up watching this 😀
Seems like a nice giant
Loved this show so much
Love this show ❤
I tube, U tube, we ALL tube for YOU TUBE: It's friendlier than you ever thought!
For me it was mostly Mr.Dressup but this holds a place in my heart!
He can't be THAT friendly of a giant. He makes poor Jerome stand out in the cold.
I was 6 back then. How life was so simple.
Thanks for this!
The Friendly Giant theme was played by Friendly Giant himself.
Gotta break the 5 year newest comment silent streak....I watched this as a kid...every day.
Reminds me of Mr.Rogers. it's nice.
Love The Flute🎺
The snow looks nice on the castle.
I would love to have this theme song to download.
RIP Rod Coneybeare , puppeteer.
That's one giant chicken. Gotta be at least a couple stories tall when you compare it to those chairs and houses.
The three way comment makes friendly laugh the second time.
to him thats a dusting of snow but really a foot LoL
This is like Canadian Captain Kangaroo or Kukla, Fran and Ollie
A rock chair in the middle 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
oh man. now i want to google the flintsones... this day is wasted LOL
Three people either have lost touch with their inner child or maybe miss clicked
that chicken in the bag always had whatever they needed, lol
+Don Mainville and ya knew that giraffe was cokin' 'er all up with whores all night long, but he gathered himself before a performance. respect.

its sad kids these days don't learn like this lets bring this type of educational learning back into the mix but maybe with a different twist
Their poor little cat feet
Be Careful"Friendly"'we don't want you to slip and fall and break your neck and your tushie.
I MISS THAT SHOW...UNLIKE THE TECHNOCRATIC MODERN CRAP WE HAVE TODAY..😔😑😑
That chicken puppet still gives me the creeps.
Damn that man new how to record. Is that the word? To record?
They're going to have a three way!
I watched this as a child. Was this a Canadian production?
