- It was an absolute pleasure having my fellow countryman Ahmed, a lawyer from London, join me on SRFM.
After moving here 5 weeks ago we delve into what life has been like for him since he upped sticks and moved from North London to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Quite the change of scenery.
It took a little convincing to get him on the show, but at the opportunity of helping others in a similar position, he put his nervousness aside and offers such incredible value.
Ahmed has already done a fantastic job settling and he has some words of wisdom around how you can overcome the inevitable expat loneliness.

Hello Pete, I happened upon this channel a day ago. Very grateful you’re taking the time to create content on such a unique subject, it’s helping me a lot.
I am looking to move within a year, within my firm, based in Riyadh, Salwa Village.
Does Ahmad have social media? I’d look to continue my BJJ classes in Riyadh, and know where to go when visiting Jeddah.
And as for gym memberships etc. Is there non contract puregym type setups there, or is it more private based individual gyms?

Exciting times for you! I don’t believe he does, quite the private person. But a very good place for martial arts, BJJ included, would be Arena - they have a branch in Jeddah and Arena. It’s focused on CrossFit and also MMA so would be a great place to consider and check out.
Funnily enough there is the first PureGym in Riyadh. Other big commercial gym chains too like FitnessTime and B-It, plus more popping up seemingly each day as the fitness industry grows. There will also be some specialised BJJ places, but the beauty of Arena is you have access to the gym!

Unfortunately I would have absolutely no idea the best route for this - I’m in fitness so I don’t ever understand those concepts myself let alone how to find a job in this field. Google I think would be your best friend here mate - good luck!
