I admire the fact that you don’t use cordless drill for your assembly/disassembly. Reminds me of building TAMIYA kits when I was a kid.
Appreciate it! 👍😉
I literally bought a 6s xmaxx for $420 and I couldn’t find a conversion kit. Thank god for this video.
Glad you found it helpful…..Yeah I’m not aware of a conversion kit….you just gotta buy the pieces and convert it yourself basically
@Æ sorry….I don’t have the parts list
hello nolan ^.^
awesome video man
very informative
great traxxas ^.^
Thanks! I’m glad you found it informative
How can u tell the 8s axles and hubs? Vs the 6s ones??
It’s very hard to tell unless they’re side by side…the dog bones are slightly thicker and the pins are a slightly larger diameter for the stub axles on the 8s compared to the 6s…you’d almost have to measure them with calipers and look for the dimensions online
Hey did you ever change ge shock springs due to heavier batteries using large 4s batteries
No I didn’t….I’m not sure if the shock springs are any different between the 6s and 8s xmaxx…it still seems to perform well anyways
@RCKnockout thanks iam still with 6s shocks, I guess they work alright, truck is heavy with big 4s batteries
@@stephenb9940 yeah you shouldn’t have any issues…If you want you can always find different spring rated springs though
Amazing parts bro love this truck they should really help bro
Thanks man! 😊
Nice swap 👍
Thanks 😊
I bought a used xmcxx and didn't know it was 6s version...are differentials different too or I could just buy the new drive cups? so I can use the new dog bones and pins..thank you
Yeah the diff gears are different….as well as the drive cups, dog bones and the stub axles are all different from the 6s version
I just wanna say the 6s does come with a center diff but traxxas doesnt make that part anymore hense the reason for the 8s conversion and bulkhead swap to accomidate the larger bearings on the center diff
6s actually doesn’t have a center diff……it has a plastic out drive gear in place of the center diff
Got a great deal on a 6s xmaxx. But by the time im done converting to 8s parts I shoulda just went straight for an 8s one 🤣🤣
Yeah that sounds about right lol
@@RCKnockout haha so far I bought the rear bulkhead and the center diff. Will be buying the cush drive soon. Do I need anything else? Its just those right? Everything else like yhe input gear are all the same? Thanks!
@@kristofferdelrosario1105 technically the diff cups, dog bones and stub axles are all different on the 8s….but they aren’t a must to change in my opinion…..6s ones will be a bit more prone to breaking
@@RCKnockout id just go either straight to the wide kit or jennys rc haha or scratch it for now and run it with the new center diff & cush drive
@@kristofferdelrosario1105 yeah I wouldn’t blame you there
Are you running 8s stub axle carriers, and if so do they mount up to the stock arms.
I just destroyed a rear dogbone and can't find a replacement without upgrading to the 8s but not sure what all I will need to get.
Yeah I believe I’ve switched them all at this point….you’ll need the 8s stub axles and 8s driveshafts…..I believe it’s the same part number as the 6s ones just with an “X” at the end of the part number
You were probably breaking axles because it looks like you werent running a slipper clutch or a differential before. Looks like someone replaced the slipper clutch with a cush drive which doesn't really work to save the drivetrain.
I replaced it with a Cush drive. I haven’t run the slipper in years. If I put it back in I might spare my axles though
@@RCKnockout yeah unfortunately the cush drive just isn't a replacement for the slipper clutch. The cush drive can take a little bit of shock load but it can't absorb big shocks like a slipper clutch or a center differential can
@@DoRC yeah. I agree. I was still breaking driveshafts and stripping ring gears every time I took it out with the Cush drive and solid output gear. I haven’t had any issues since installing the center differential
How would a slipper clutch and 8S ring and pinion hold up? Just deciding if I go with the centre diff conversion in my old 6S rig, someone fitted a slipper eliminator and I just killed front and rear ring and pinion gears in no time.
@@Fredward1986 do the center diff. Its far superior to the slipper
How do you know if your Xmaxxx is a 6S or 8S???
If it’s an 8s it’ll have a Cush Drive rather than a slipper clutch…..also it should have a Vxl8s esc rather than a Vxl6s
Have you ran 8s on the 6s set up
Yeah the plastic spur and plastic output gear strip
Dang man, I finally just picked up a 8s x-maxx what do you think about them
@@1994RALLY much better than the 6s version
@@RCKnockout really awesome!!
@@1994RALLY for sure!
Are you still on the 1650kv? If so how’s it holding up?
Yep it’s still holding up well!
Haven’t stripped any gears yet?
@@omega_rc yeah I’ve stripped some pinions but the motor is still holding up well
Didn’t even know they had a xmaxx 6s
Yeah the OG Xmaxx only came in 6s for the first year or two of production
How could Traxxas ever think it was a good idea to not have a center diff on anything 4S and higher basically. Especially on their top of the line model's, the Maxx and X-Maxx.
You need it to control that power and actually put that power down without balloons for tires. A slipper clutch is there to dampen the torque on everything, especially on Full Throttle Landings. It does lock the front and rear to a point but its not made for that..
I think that’s why they decided to change it for the 8s xmaxx
