***I don't own any of the music in this video. This video is intended to support the content, not recreate or use for personal gain.
Haegum is unlocking the forbidden so your observations are quite on par!
I love this song and you are so lucky you get to go to his concert this week i live close but can't afford it have fun
Straight up top tier mv of the year ! Suga August D is the wild one in BTS lol. I'm here for it .
Extraordinario suga!!!
Haegeum is a traditional instrument but it also means freedom or lifting of a ban. Funny how you said he's doing things in this video you don't normally see in k-pop videos because in his documentary, Road to D-Day, which also dropped today btw, he said that people blow the smallest thing out of proportion when it comes to idols. He's smoking in this video, but there will still be people who would criticise him for it, despite the fact he's 31. So, haegeum is about lifting the ban from things they've been told they can't or shouldn't do.
do you. screw the haters that think they can control your life.
@@TheChampOfMedium also, re the end: if you remember daechwita's ending, blond mad king Agust D was shot by the black-haired Agust D, who in haegeum became the cop - the same authority figure he killed in daechwita. then HE was shot by the third Agust D (notice how this third Agust D does not have a scar) because it's a cycle and he's trying to break out of it. hence, the scene where he took the cigarette and set the money on fire.
8:20 - yes! that's what I felt, too. that he's critiquing the society but also acknowledging he, too, is a part of it because he was forced into it. and who better to critique something than someone who was forced to participate in it? You cannot expect people with generation wealth or blood money to say this because they don't what it's like, but for someone who earned their way to the top, they know what it's like because they have experienced it. so, it's about having a choice, self-critique, and a critique of the society we're a cog of, the society we live in.
He really gets you thinking for sure
best reaction, explanation, thank, nice
aw thanks
A Thailand ARMY (shout out to Sky_hxneul) was kind enough to educate us and explain that this was filmed in Thailand and that place is called the "Thief Market" Rattanakosin Island's ( Old name of Thailand from 1782-1892) and it was the first international shoping center in the period after the abolition of slavery.. This is how he explained it : so this market came to exist because the people in the palace freed from slavery when they moved out of the palace, they received some goods from the master and also stole some They then brought those goods to sell them in this area. Now we know that Haegeum is a traditional instrument but also means the liberation of the prohibition..
Very cool, thanks Thai ARMY!
The instrument is hangeum. See title but it also mean liberation of prohibition.
seeing him on the 29th in jersey. im so excited but nervous. my first ever concert and Im going alone
Youll be OK, im from Jersey! Its an easy travel to the venue.
@@TheChampOfMedium i got to uber it so ill get there no matter what
I feel like there’s a hint of the cyclical nature of history & society in how Agust D kills these alternate versions of himself. Partly the battle with trying to become your better self (fighting your own greed and conformity etc), but also the revolutionary who killed the mad king then became the repressive authority himself, and was in turn taken out by the next revolutionary who wanted to shape society his own way.
Yes! That smile right before he got shot was less of an "oh fu*k" and more of an amused "here we go again." And the cycle of trying to tame yourself continues, ya know? It's a never- ending battle.
yes, leader of a gang.. of 6 other memberssssss! he said: Imma make it obvious
💯 first time ever in my life where the lyrics were more captivating than the video. and the video was a fkn masterpiece. They need an English version of it, certain group of my fellow Americans need to hear these lyrics.
They for sure can read... :)
Between the lyrics, MV on their own and interdependently just so much to think about! Loved the conversations it sparked about himself, within my own self and between people! He touched up on so many topics, exploration of self, morals and ethics, societal/politcal challenges, institutions and systems, the music industry, the kpop industry, information economy... like.. bruuuh
Yes... love that man
Yoongi has a full documentary on Disney+, Road to D-day that follows the album journey and has live performances of album songs also 💜
I read that the guy in the suit represented a corrupt cop. When we first see him, he’s walking through a police station and people are saluting him.
So something twitter armys were theorizing is how there is always a rebel to kill the guy that is in power, and when we talk about the 2 Agust D in the video is like in Daechwita the rebel killed the king, that in some level represents yoongi thinking he's on the top of the world, and his greed. Then in Haegeum, the rebel from Daechwita now is a cop, that apparently is corrupt, so there is the need of another rebel to bring him down. For me is like the rebel is yoongi when he perceives that his greed or ego are taking control of him, so the rebel has to kill that yoongi for him to return to his roots or something like that. But then it happens again, is like a ciyvle in which yoongi has to constantly be aware of when his ego is getting to big. I don't know if what I said made sense at all lol
Also, btw, with him lighting up - and the lyrics - I wouldn’t be surprised if this was referencing specifically the hate comments Tae got when the paps publicised pictures of him smoking at the Grammys.
Ooooooo I didn't think of that!
btw... thanks for the drink! Ill take a picture at the show drinking it :)
Would have got you one in person if they’d let me leave! 😅 gits!
Yoongi is a great storyteller. He is definitely my bias.
This album has made me so f*cking happy.
yes this is another chapter of the trilogy. He said in one of the trailer that the 2 part of him that were actually glithing are now both part of him. Probably his final form.
he attacked him with his red chopsticks!!!! pls 😭😭😭😭😭
Freedom isn't the absence of rules, its the perfection of self imposed rules. Discipline is freedom not self-indulgence.
Yep, it's Daechwita 대취타 - PART 2. I think Yoongi is ready to be an actor in a Korean crime drama, heh.
The way he took the Boss' jacket and then had to eat with the chopsticks that he used as a weapon is so genius. STREAM SMART ARMY!!!
Yoongi said during the countdown to Haegeum... That you should watch Daechwita, Haegeum and Armgydala all in one sitting once Armgydala airs on the Apr 25th midnight kst/ apr 24th 11am est. I believe that the three videos are a trilogy themselves as well. if The Boss killed the King, and the gang leader killed the boss.... Makes me wonder what is in store for Armgydala.... so excited for this album... Thank you for your reaction!!!
I love a lot your reaction always you are the best. Great song, great MV, great lyrics and great reaction. Must army must to watch your reaction 💜
Pls react to the whole album especially snooze..it is,somehow sequeal o lfchis song So far away..Suga,actially put the lyrics of "so far away" in thecsong Snooze. Suga is indeed a genius whem in comes to music..I really love my bias Suga..pls do react also to Lige goes on Suga version this time he showcase his vocals😊😊😊❤❤❤..thank you I hope you read my message..
this song can be awarded to song of the year. the lyrics are awesome
Suga is so fine and talented
This song and the mv had me in a chokehold. Not only did Yoongi's acting get MUCH better (and he was already literally a pro), but the entire cinematography backs it up. The song is a banger, no doubt. HAEGEUM is a traditional instrument, but it also means release from prohibition. The mv is so fascinating. In Daechwita, he killed the blond Agust D because he was too corrupt with anger and resentment. Agust D couldn't take it anymore. But in Haegeum the Agust D scar ended up as corrupted as the blonde Agust D. It's interesting that the new Agust D basically started the mv by killing a person and ending with the memory of it. Agust D is a trilogy because Yoongi was finally able to unite with Suga and Agust D. They are no longer apart because he learned to embrace all of his feelings. In this MV, the new Agust D. is a vigilante and violent villain because that's what Agust D is. But instead of just killing the scarred Agust D, who in this narrative, is a corrupt secret agent, (as happened to the blonde Agust D), he ALSO burned the money scar that Agust D had. My interpretation is that this whole mv revolves around FREE SPEECH, which may not be correct. 🤣. Finally, cheers to SUGA for yet another unique work of art.👏❤
you're correct! Idols can't smoke, can't date and gotta behave like they're all 12 yo. Like idol fans say they know they date/smoke etc but they don't wanna see it and are VERY vocal abt it. They say it with their full chest: if you wanna do that, be a commoner not an idol (I'm not kidding, they say this like it makes perfect sense). God forbifd they marry and have kids!.. or worse: have kids w/o being married like we're on the 1950's lmao the scandal they make, you wouldn't believe
You should rewatch the Daechwita video! I didn’t watch this with lyrics originally but it is very much the same story as Daechwita visually. It’s the modern retelling! Instead of the king and the rebel it’s the cop and the criminal. You picked up on the style of the songs mirroring each other, but the videos do too with the same beats. The opening shot with the market, the king/cop being physically higher than the rebel/criminal a lot of the time. When he slows down the rap and drops the music he’s a captive, and then he’s taken to the king/cop who it seems will execute him but instead he kills the king/cop. Even the shot hanging out the police car at the end mirrors in the middle of Daechwita when he’s doing donuts in the car.
I think it’s a really important comparison because it emphasises that rebel and criminal are two sides of the same coin. Like the rebel in Daechwita is kinda unambiguously the good guy, and then the parallel is drawn to the criminal in Haegum who is much more grey. He’s still the main character, still wins in the end, and we’re rooting for him over the cop. But also he killed a guy with chopsticks and robbed that store(?). He is not a good guy.
And I think that links back to the message of the song that you have to re-evaluate your view of *everyone* even the people you disagree with. Even the people you think are criminal/evil.
And now the speculation zone: I think this is especially pointed at Korean society where a lot of things that are seen as fine/normal in the west are criminalised and still socially shunned in Korean society. Being gay, having tattoos, just generally loving outside the “expected” life path. BTS especially in the early days wrote a lot about not having to live how society/authority says you should. Plus the Haegum being another traditional instrument ties this song to Korean culture.
Suga has hinted A LOT in his lyrics and interviews that he’s bi/pan, so I suspect the Korean societal prejudice against queer people is something he’s thinking about here. Not the only thing, but one of them.
Yoongi mentioned ppl tend to go to the extremes and gets really angry if anyone doesn't take a stance between either black or white and he thinks of himself as grey
It's like choosing red or blue in politics. It's best to be practical and blend the two by taking the purple road, which, thankfully, more people seem to be doing.
@@ForeverAmber_1 ahhh is that the way it's called in English when it comes to politics? like instead of black and white as examples it's red and blue? In case my broken Eng. didn't give it away I'm not a native speaker so I tend to miss tons of nuances. In Spanish we used 'black' and 'white' but don't have anything specific when it comes to politics
@fi0rella In the U.S., the color blue is typically associated with the Democratic party, and red is representative of the Republican party. If you mix the two colors, you get purple, and I think it would be a good representation of some kind of political middle ground here. 🙂
@@ForeverAmber_1 oh I get it thank you!! I love that the mix is purple lol very fitting for boraworld issues
Are you actually seeing him too? I’m so jealous. I begged and begged to get time off work to travel to the NY dates and they wouldn’t budge.
Hiii Penny 💜 Yeah, Champ and I have tickets to NY concert.
You’re gonna have the best time! Think of me! *sob*
@@pennynya We will scream greetings to Yoongi from Penny 🥰
💜💜
yes.. it's a ciggie!! may or may not be real sice I see no light BUT it is def a real ciggie in the story! he said: so idols can't smoke? FU, I'm 30 yo look at me not giving a flipping sht Imma do just that
I mean, for the actual shoot it would have been fake. We have props specifically for that, it's just a blend of herbs. Because you have to do so many takes when shooting, using real cigarettes (or anything else you smoke) would make the talent ill whether they're a regular smoker or not.
@@BoraBlooded ahhh that's so fascinating!! thank you I didn't know. I'm sorry for actors now! and Yoongi pfft
@@fi0rella Don't be sorry for us! That's why the prop versions were made. Now it's like smoking nothing. Back in the day when they had people smoking the real thing, that had to have sucked though. lol
Yep, he’s fed up with KPop Idol culture as well, the artificiality, rules and constraints. Also, the rivalry and pettiness. He is emancipating himself from all that, as an artist. Time to get real. The gang violence was shocking, but the lyrics make it clear: we need to be more discerning and stop the tyranny of conformity and greed. The tragic end of MoonBin at this time underscores the cost of idol culture.
I listened to many reactions to this song, rest of them were really stupid, it was so refreshing listening to yours, totally agree with you on everything
Which show are you going to? :o I'm going to the UBS on Wednesday.
Anyways, the way I saw this MV was as a continuation of the Daetchwita mv. We had Modern Agust D kill King Agust D but Modern Agust D also turned bad (as seen in this mv) so a new Agust D (with no scar) kills him. But, Modern Agust D smiles at the end bc he can see No Scar Agust D continuing this cycle...
I watched this KPOP producer say that smoking and murdering someone is banned in Kdrama’s and music. Great reaction by the way! 💜
Oo banned? I figured just frowned upon.
@@TheChampOfMedium I have watched many many kdramas with violence and smoking, even Illegal drugs
Obviously not banned in kdrama
That producer lied!!! 😆 Thanks for the correct answer! 😃
What if he was telling us how he became the corrupted cop? In the end if the video he us carrying the cop's suit and he has the support of the police and the gang as well.
Well, I'm probably wrong but it would be a wild plot twist
I am rapline biased and love them but AgustD is the one I connect to most. He may be less versatile than Hobi and less lyrically talented than RM it is his sincerity and rawness that connects with me. Also his vulnerability. From this album I love Snooze* the most, you might like it as well in terms of the themes it covers. There is no video but I hope you react to it.
*This may change 😂
please react and listen to agust d snooze
I think it'd be worth it for you to look into music in Korea, versus "Korean Music".
trilogy. 1 more yea
Dude stuff like this they've done since christ was a cowboy. If you look back just at their BU stuff alone with V stabbing somebody with a broken bottle, RM's "lollypop" which turned back into a filter when it hits the ground (thanks Korean censorship) plus since pre-debut, songs about violence, drugs, sex, metal health, societal upheaval -pick your lyrical poison. BTS is the "Simpsons did it" of Korean music. No... Music with a capital M.
❤ the channel.. I've been watching you for a while, my guy. So why the 😮 at the chopsticks?? I know this ain't your first pony ride 😅
Tae stabbed his father in I Need U. 🤷♀️
