So glad you got to see the aurora. I've often found it funny (is that the right word?) that you've spent SO many nights in the bush without seeing them! Happy for ya!
That was wonderful footage of the aurora, I'm 62 and never seen it before. Actually I'm 63 and I've still never seen it. Thanks , and glad you shared that with us.
Hey Jon! Just wanted to say thank you. Posting this comment on an older video with the hopes that you'll see it. But yeah.. Thank you! I've never explored fishing really, except for the 3 or 4 times my dad took me to local dams here in South Africa when I was a kid. 25 now and after enjoying numerous hobbies with my old man (skateboarding, skydiving, hockey) we finally have something to do together again after a quiet few years of focusing on work. Found your channel and it unlocked a love for the outdoors I never knew I had. Thank you again, Jon! If you ever find yourself bass fishing in SA, let a brother know!
Jon, congrats on the northern lights, beautiful. Thanks so much for the comments about shelter tear down and extinguishing a fire. Unfortunately, many of your fellow youtubers are not demonstrating these etiquettes and safety practices
Thanks a lot Will! Yeah I really don't like seeing shelters in the wild, especially on high traffic areas. Leaving it up somewhere you have permission to is one thing, but on public land it's a no-no IMO
Ah man, what a light show, just excellent! Fireworks lake is a beauty and with that wonderful entertainment it is no wonder you will remember that one for the rest of your days. Great couple of nights out, thanks for sharing. :) :)
Seen "Northern Lights" in your caption and thought finally! Glad you were able to see them after all of your attempts. I've never seen them like that, so thanks for sharing.
#1 I am SO RIDICULOUSLY HAPPY FOR YOU! You've been chasing auroras so long, it's high time indeed! Wonderful, just wonderful! #2 I see you too are a fellow connoisseur of breaking ramen up before cooking it! Such high taste! As Joe Robinet is fond of saying, "ain't no peasant life here!" #3 "Leave No Trace" INCLUDES crappy shelters imho! Delightful video, just what I needed. Best wishes to the absent Erin on her masters grind. 💕
Thank you oP!!! Hahah no peasant life here boys and girls! I really hate seeing bushcraft shelters in the wild on public land...they look terrible very quickly
I remember when I was in the Navy we were up by Tromso Norway and we saw the northern lights. It truly is an amazing sight. I'm so happy you were able to experience that. It is truly a sight to behold.
Congrats Jon. Sorry you and Erin couldn't share it but the main thing is that it finally happened and it looks like it was a good one..count every blessing right. Thanks for the post and all the best from Toronto. Roger
So happy you got that northern lights show!!! That's the reason I want to live up north. On vacations in Canada I would go out and look for them all the time. Got to see them sometimes. Thanks
Man, bro.....soooooooooooooooooooo happy you got to see the Northern Lights! Thanks for sharing with us. Sorry you didn't catch any fish. But time outdoors, is better then time indoors anytime!!
Another excellent post. I just came back from winter camping in northern Quebec. We did a similar setup with a tarp lean to facing some boulders as a fire reflector. A lot of work but well worth it.
It comes out differently on camera (many make it more colorful than it is). But its amazing non the less. My uncle lives in Alaska and I got to see it. Its absolutely amazing!
Very true, the colours weren't this saturated IRL, but my eye saw lots of green and even a little red so that was awesome...it really is amazing. Can't wait for the next show
I love the colours in this video. Everything seemed especially crispy and poppin'. Damn!!! Love the aurora. Incredible. For a moment, while the screen was black, we had a good chuckle over what could be happening. 🤣
You do not need to be up north to see the northern lights. I saw them once in upper state New York and another time, just outside of Perth Ontario, just west Of Ottawa, Canada. Amazing to see.
JON!! It finally happened, so happy for you. I know your quest for wanting to see the infamous Aurora Borealis! You’ve mentioned it many times, I always hoped it would happen too. Thank you for capturing and sharing it. Beautiful work, cheers!
I was flying home on the red eye from TO to YXE, the pilot pointed out the northern lights on the left side of the plane (where I was sitting), amazing to see the lights go beyond the night horizon.
Overjoyed that you experienced the aurora after all these years. 💜👀 Spectacular! Thank you for including the yummy recipe - will make a batch this weekend. Be well!
Thanks Jim, it was a beauty weekend! Been such a bad winter for me. Someone who has a cabin just past where I stopped told me "it is not just you. There is very little to be caught in the area." At least that's reassuring...
I saw the Aurora Australis back in the 1980s driving back from a ski trip in Victoria, Australia with friends. We stopped by the side of the road and watched the show for about 20 minutes.
Jon that Aurora was amazing! Wow great footage thanks for sharing! I was gonna say a weak bushcraft frame could be a start for someone in trouble. Glad you got to get out and share with us! Stay safe and keep em coming!
I appreciate that you don't leave your shelter. I hate finding fallen down shelters- especially if they are tied together with synthetic cordage. Looks like a great night with the northern lights!
I recently found your UA-cam channel and have been binge watching your videos. The winter camping videos are my favorite, and especially your winter camping videos. You and Erin (sp?) are fun to watch . . . so silly, down-to-earth, and so respectful of your surroundings. The way you burnt all of the left-over wood, including the wood from your bushcraft shelter is evidence of who you are as person, and that you are not in this for the money, but for the shear love of nature.
That's up there! I moved to the north shore of Superior 3 years ago and thought I'd be seeing them regularly...not the case! Not quite far enough north to get it often
Take care. I am excited to see this video. Thanks many times over to you and Erin for doing what you do. And you do it well. Wish Erin well on her advanced degree. Once completed, she will be her best boss, taking her certification wherever she goes. 🥂🙃😊
Jon, I've been watching you since your QEW2 days, I've seen many videos where you had high hopes of seeing the lights and were shorted everytime. I'm happy for you that you finally got to witness them! Can't wait for that experience myself. Cheers, Ryan.
I am glad that you finally saw a decent aurora. It seems like they were more frequent years ago. I suspect that polar drift is the reason. Since I came to Marathon in 1970, the magnetic pole has drifted 1600 km further away. It moved from 75.9N 101.0W to 86.4N 169.8E.
Thanks Ted! That's a hell of a drift. Possibly also because of the 11-year solar cycle and that we've been in solar minimum in recent years, but it should be on the rise for a number of years now.
My son and I watched the Aurora over lake superior that's a once in a lifetime experience. That was 20 yrs ago. We still talk about it. Glad you were able to experience
have not seen the aurora borealis in such along time , thanks for sharing happy you got to see them in their full glory they are beautiful nice capture. Looked like an awesome adventure thanks Jon
Great video! Jon i saw a quote on a t-shirt that I believe you and Erin would appreciate. "Here I go into the forest to lose myself and find my soul". It is so true! --Marlys
Being able to see the Aurora is definitely on my bucket list. Crazy happy that you were able to finally witness it yourself. We just see a small sliver of the time you spent trying to see it so I'm sure that the attempts by you are exponentially greater. But yeah.... WOO HOO!!!!!
So glad you got to see the aurora. I've often found it funny (is that the right word?) that you've spent SO many nights in the bush without seeing them! Happy for ya!
It seems crazy...I bet I've slept through a number of unforecasted shows without ever knowing too. Thanks Tim!
What a beautiful spot and a lucky one for our. Auroras are beautiful and never the same twice. Thanks for the video. Take care, Al
That was wonderful footage of the aurora, I'm 62 and never seen it before. Actually I'm 63 and I've still never seen it. Thanks , and glad you shared that with us.
Thanks Moe! Dying to see a good display like this again
I'm so happy for you that you got to see a beautiful aurora display! I still haven't seen them yet but one day I will.
Thanks Kelly! Keep trying!
That was awesome. I’m glad you finally saw them. We usually fall asleep and forget to wake up. Definitely worth the sacrifice.
Hahah I often wonder how many auroras I've slept through...probably a few
Oh man! What a display! All the effort paid off big! Im happy for you man
Thanks Jeff!!
Glad to see the new content! Thanks!
Bud, that was amazing! So happy you got to finally see dem lights.
😁😁

YAY !!! Haven’t watched this yet , but had to say YAY ! you finally got to witness the Northern Lights 🥳
😁😁
How good was that ?! So pleased for you to get to witness the aurora ! Great viewing , thanks for sharing 😊👍
admiring your commitment to the closest to nature even if it is frozen and cold! well done
Thank you Claire!
Great cinematography as usual! What a spectacular aurora!!
Thanks Barb!! Can't wait for the next one
I'm so happy you finally got to see the Aurora Lights!!!
Ah man, what a light show, just excellent! Fireworks lake is a beauty and with that wonderful entertainment it is no wonder you will remember that one for the rest of your days. Great couple of nights out, thanks for sharing. :) :)
Thanks J!! Already hankering for the next show
Great video.awesome aurora shot.glad you got to see it
Glad you finally bagged an aurora. Really beautiful.
Way to go . Great little clip
Amazing, glad you finally got to see an aurora 😍
😁
Finally got to see the aurora so beautiful. Looks like a great time.
Looked like a fun little trip. To bad about the fishing. Nice you got to see the Northern lights.
I saw them many times in Minnesota 👍 👁🛶👁
Amazing footage of the Aurora, haven't seen it since the early 60's. Nice video.
Seen "Northern Lights" in your caption and thought finally! Glad you were able to see them after all of your attempts. I've never seen them like that, so thanks for sharing.

Thank you oP!!! Hahah no peasant life here boys and girls! I really hate seeing bushcraft shelters in the wild on public land...they look terrible very quickly
Hey, you finally saw it !.. Congrats buddy !. Extremely happy for you..
Thanks Pete!
gotta love spring crust
and you gotta hate when you drill a hole and it comes back dirty
Especially when the ice is 1m+ thick lol Yeah the crust was amazing at times...pretty rough on the trip out but that's how it goes this time of year
Finally the Aurora siting! Nice photos. Spring is coming.
great video. glad you seen the aurora. thanks 4 sharing
I remember when I was in the Navy we were up by Tromso Norway and we saw the northern lights. It truly is an amazing sight. I'm so happy you were able to experience that. It is truly a sight to behold.
Some spectacular night sky. Glad you got to see them. 👍
The northern lights are the most beautiful sight to see! Glad you got to enjoy them! I appreciate you! ❤️❤️
You could easily make that argument. Truly incredible. Kind of like getting to see a big lightning storm but rarer, colourful, and with no rain 😁
Thanks
You waited a long time for that! Well you certainly earned it!
Fabulous catch on camera of the Northern Lights! We actually saw this past weekend in Copper Harbor Michigan...just across the lake from you!
Right on!! Glad you guys got the show down there too!
That shelter looks like a lot of work Jon. Happy that you finally got to see the northern lights.
Hahah too much work...wanted to try it but I'm going back to the hammock. Thanks John!
Man, bro.....soooooooooooooooooooo happy you got to see the Northern Lights! Thanks for sharing with us. Sorry you didn't catch any fish. But time outdoors, is better then time indoors anytime!!
Thanks Scotty!!
Wonderful video, as always. I'm glad you got to see the Northern Lights, I'm hoping one day I'm able to see them too.
Another excellent post. I just came back from winter camping in northern Quebec. We did a similar setup with a tarp lean to facing some boulders as a fire reflector. A lot of work but well worth it.
Thanks Marcus! It was fun to try but I'll probably stick to the hammock for the amount of work lol
Can't wait for the next show
That is one very good thing about snowmobile tracks, same story to our cabin. It's not far, but when the tracks fail, it's a hike!
10x easier on their tracks!
I love the colours in this video. Everything seemed especially crispy and poppin'. Damn!!! Love the aurora. Incredible. For a moment, while the screen was black, we had a good chuckle over what could be happening. 🤣
Hahaha thanks Andrea!!
I love how it's always camping season with you!
The Aurora in this video is amazing I'm really happy you had your moment to see it
Once again, beautiful video John😊 thanks for sharing those magical northern lights! They are definitely on my bucket list as well😉
Thanks Anyse! They're worth the wait
That is so awesome my friend. Very happy for you
Happy for you Jon. What a cool experience and well earned!
Awesome!!! I never seen the northern lights.. plus that’s a great phish song lol
Looks amazing❄️🔥🍳🌲
I've never seen the Northern Lights in person. Looks incredible, and they're on my bucket list.
Worth the wait, but also leaves you wanting more. Can't wait to see it again
You do not need to be up north to see the northern lights. I saw them once in upper state New York and another time, just outside of Perth Ontario, just west Of Ottawa, Canada. Amazing to see.
@@graceham1 Oh wow, that must have been great to see.
@@ActuallyAndrewFishing Unexpected in both cases. That was many years ago. Have not seen them since.
Thank You!
Glad you finally got to see an aurora display.
JON!! It finally happened, so happy for you. I know your quest for wanting to see the infamous Aurora Borealis! You’ve mentioned it many times, I always hoped it would happen too. Thank you for capturing and sharing it. Beautiful work, cheers!
Hahah lately I've been editing out most of my failed aurora footage...it's just old news. Finally!
I was flying home on the red eye from TO to YXE, the pilot pointed out the northern lights on the left side of the plane (where I was sitting), amazing to see the lights go beyond the night horizon.
Awesome!!
Aw so happy for you!!! :) That must of been so cool to see.
😁
Saw my first and only Aurora 30 years ago. I've seen shooting stars and even a comet while camping, but nothing compares to that. Congrats!
Overjoyed that you experienced the aurora after all these years. 💜👀 Spectacular! Thank you for including the yummy recipe - will make a batch this weekend. Be well!
Thanks again April!! Not the most lightweight bars, but calorie dense!
I love your solo videos!
Just amazing! Thank you so much for sharing it! Great shelter setup as well 👍🏻
Thanks BC! 😁
Beautiful lights Jon, weather looked perfect... fish not so nice... cheers
Thanks Jim, it was a beauty weekend! Been such a bad winter for me. Someone who has a cabin just past where I stopped told me "it is not just you. There is very little to be caught in the area." At least that's reassuring...
That was absolutely stunning Jon. So happy for you. The only thing that would of made it absolutely perfect was if Erin was there. Thank you.😘😲
Too true, really wished that she was but I'll take it! Thanks Trisha!
Fabulous, Jon!!! The entire trip must have been worth it just for the lights! Wow!!!!
Pure catharsis 😊
Good 'ole Naan calzones!! I've seen the aurora...but its been awhile. A worthy endeavor to chase down. Congrats!!! Beautiful show!!
At last :) Thanks J!!
Just went out for the first canoeing of the year ourselves, nice to see another great video from you!
I saw the Aurora Australis back in the 1980s driving back from a ski trip in Victoria, Australia with friends. We stopped by the side of the road and watched the show for about 20 minutes.
Insane video as always ! Im happy for you that must have been an insane night !
Thanks BN! It was cloud nine. Really want more now
Jon that Aurora was amazing! Wow great footage thanks for sharing! I was gonna say a weak bushcraft frame could be a start for someone in trouble. Glad you got to get out and share with us! Stay safe and keep em coming!
Thanks Conar! Lotta work those shelters...
I appreciate that you don't leave your shelter. I hate finding fallen down shelters- especially if they are tied together with synthetic cordage. Looks like a great night with the northern lights!
You even had all the colours, jealous! I've yet to see them either ... One day

Awesome camera angle , your reflection in your sun glasses
Thanks Diane!
Glad you finally got to see a great show!!! Living in Thompson MB we are blessed regularly and they are magical!!!!
That's up there! I moved to the north shore of Superior 3 years ago and thought I'd be seeing them regularly...not the case! Not quite far enough north to get it often
An aurora is on my bucket list, very rare in the UK and certainly not in the south where I am. Congrats on that, and congrats on almost 40K subs.
Thanks rhialobran! Always seems odd to me considering that I live at a more southerly latitude, and that they get them all the time in Scandinavia
If I was a crier I would have bawled for you buddy! A well earned aurora sighting!
Thanks a lot Ryan! 💚
Take care. I am excited to see this video. Thanks many times over to you and Erin for doing what you do. And you do it well. Wish Erin well on her advanced degree. Once completed, she will be her best boss, taking her certification wherever she goes. 🥂🙃😊
Thanks so much Kathy! She's amazing at what she does...she has a great career ahead of her :)
Sorry you didn't get fish, Jon. But your fireworks lake memory will last you a lifetime! Sick! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely epic. Loved the reaction to the lights - pure joy. Tough season for fishing tho 😁 🤘
Thanks Adam! Oh man horrible winter for me
Really appreciate your work. I am sure it take a lot more effort than we see. Your photography in National Geographic standard. Thanks.
Generous but very much appreciated YCHL!!
Jon, I've been watching you since your QEW2 days, I've seen many videos where you had high hopes of seeing the lights and were shorted everytime. I'm happy for you that you finally got to witness them! Can't wait for that experience myself.

Hahah lately I've been editing out most of my failed aurora footage...it's just old news. Finally! Keep trying and thanks Ryan!
I guess know you know what’s in those lakes. Sometimes it’s nice to cross those ones off and not always wonder about them lol
Hahah very true
Wow! Amazing light show Jon! What an awesome experience! Thanks for sharing it with us. Great video
Magic...can't wait to see it again. Thanks Keenan!
Nice! Jon, enjoyed as usual great display! A credit to the Creator!
Looking forward to watching this one.
I camped out in the Kawarthas, they didn't show up here. That's great you seen them.

Wow you finally got one congrats I've only seen a couple myself
Cinematography & story telling are excellent Jon thank u we love your adventures 👍🎯🇨🇦
This makes me really miss winter!
