I would keep it for wildlife area, with small pond, wood chip and stones, loads of flowers, bird house. Garden looks fab. Have a lovely Christmas with your family.x
Hi Gemma, In answer to your question, how about edging the area with a rusted steel edger and filling the border with wood bark, not woodchip, and planting it up in a woodland style as you have the trees. Maybe plant with aquilegia, more spring bulbs and ferns. Merry Christmas, my lovely x
You can use from stones to play area you can use bark-chips. And then bring that weeping willow (weeping plant) 1 or 2 feet forward , instead of slap against that fence. That plant is need to be straight.
I love the path you already have between the apple trees, so I’d leave that. The stones make such a difference in brightening up the area. Great job. It’s all coming together nicely ❤
Hey Clare ☺️ I'm hoping to get this area finished by the end of Jan so it's looking good and ready for spring 😀 Trying to do bits when we can ☺️ I think we will definitely keep the path, it just needs a spruce up ✨️ x
Looking very nice ,maybe ornamental grasses of varying heights ,seasonal interest all year quite a few can be grown from seed ,making them a cheaper alternative ❤
Oh lord wait til Danny sees this you’ll be on the posh list for sure 😂. We did she say we Silent Vince 😂😂. Looks amazing Gem, hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, Ali 💨☔️🧑🎄🎄🇨🇦
Hi Gem, it's looking lovely, especially the table, chairs & reel too. Maybe add wild flowers around the edge and tree and keep the grass, a more natural habitat for permaculture. Help your growing plants. Lovely update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
I would put a nice table and seats for under the Apple tree, with bulbs near all the daffodil bulbs you already have. It might be nice for a morning tea in the garden.
Lovely update Gemma! Looks great! We have gravel and it does make a difference around the beds and containers. Maybe you can have a little garden/ fairy area for the kids? You can get those bug hotels and little toys in there under the tree at the back. There's also nothing stopping you just using 3 sides of the wicker to create a triangle bed under the front tree. That way you can still get around there but creates a formal border around the bulbs. You might need a triangle piece for around the metal bed and the border. That way there is access from both sides of the front metal bed. Are the metal borders for the front of the beds or the back? What are your plans re the chimney? We have one that we have been filling up with veg cuttings, etc and going to plant a miniature rose plant i got for Mother's day a few years back. The pot is currently sitting in the chimney and want to make the compost from the cuttings but every time i think it's full enough is breaks down even more. It's surprising how quickly it goes down and how many times we filled it up already! Thinking about your colour scheme now i think the chair and table should be a like a Moroccan red terracotta. We have that colour in our living room as a feature wall and works well with the homemade wooden mantle piece, chocolate brown wicker ball shade. The paint is a bold colour but also muted so not too red more like a rusty peach rose tones. Might be stepping over the mark with ideas but how about a rose gold/copper wind chime hanging from the tree and a personalised "Gem in the Garden" plaque on the fence behind the chimney? Those wicker beds can be used as borders too and can be sprayed if you want to change the colour? Don't forget you can reuse/ upcycle the kids old wellies into plant pots, either for their area under the tree or by the wendy house? If they have the loops on them you can also turn them into cute little hanging baskets. Anyway, food for thought as they say! Hope you are all well and ready for the Christmas period? Fairly quiet one for us. Seeing my Dad at the weekend and to also fix a few things. Then Father in law and his wife on Boxing Day. Random question but are you affected by the bin day changes? Ours is normally on Fridays and now it's 3 days later. I get the Christmas changes but it should be all things weekly during that period, especially with the delays and it being the holidays and fox/rat season. Take care and have a fabulous Christmas and New Year! x
Thank You for so many great ideas! I will be thinking about this over Christmas and hoping to get the area finished by the end of Jan 👏 we have a few of the old chimneys, a few I have ivy in and this one is just holding down the fabric at the moment. Will try and think of a hone for that too 🤔 Merry Christmas and Thank You for all of the support ❤️ x
I think it would be nice to use that area under the apple tree as a a secret path. Tall (ish) plants either side and access it through the planter gravel area. ❤
Oh your garden is really starting to develop into a calming oasis. You were looking for some ideas to the area where you already have some daffodils. What about just doing a couple of nice planters with different coloured plants & flowers for throughout the spring, summer and fall. How great things will be when you’re finished to be able to go out with a cuppa and relax amongst your creation. Well done Gemma! At this time I’m going to send my very special wishes to you and the family for a warm, loving and Happy Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous 2025❤❤
Hi Wanda 👋 Thank You for the great ideas, I really want to spend more time in my garden in 2025, I neglected it this year so looking forward to making progress 😊 Merry Christmas Wanda and wishing you a fabulous 2025 too 😊
I think the rustic willow beds would look lovely at the end of the gravel. They would be on keeping with the cottage garden vibe. It's going to look amazing no matter what you do Gem 😊
Looking good. I'd suggest you put the willow beds between the gravel and the tree's, keeping the stepping stone path. Then plant the willow beds with perennial flowers for cutting.
Great job Gem, love a outdoor project. Lets hope, fingers crossed For spring sunshine and sunny summer days ahead. 🤞Happy Winter Solstice, longer days are coming, thanks for sharing. bfn.🐞🌻🌱
Thank You for watching 😊

This idea ^ ❤❤
@TheFarmyardGarden same Clare, I think this is what I'll go for with the path running through it 👏
Use the willow beds either side of the apple arch Gemma .Great for salads . I'd just leave the path between them as it is .🙂
That's a great idea, I think that's what I may end up doing, Thank You! ☺️🎄

I started laughing when you said, "We'll start unloading the van." You actually should have said Vince will start unloading the van.😅
Hee hee I don't know why I say we as it always means Vince 😂
I love the path you already have between the apple trees, so I’d leave that.

I would carry the path around the corner to the fence, sorry Vince more lifting 🤦♀️ or another long square bed
Thanks Ali that's a fabulous idea 👏🥰
@ perhaps 🤔 if expensive move the one near the greenhouse that would also “open” up the area to the greenhouse side
@myrustygarden yes that could work too 👏
