Using Third Quest version with Link sprite patch along with other patches from section C. I, II, and IIIb.
BS The Legend of Zelda is a sweet remake of the first Zelda game from the NES. It uses A Link to the Past inspired graphics and a couple of new features such as using L and R to switch items during gameplay like Mega Man X. Each triforce piece you collect will either upgrade your items and/or cause useful events to happen. I decided to play this version because I can't stand the time limit this originally had.
The reason its called Third Quest because it's a opposing sequel to the Second Quest from the NES game.
This first part went very well. I went through 2 levels without getting hit until I eventually got hit by that stupid fish in the overworld.
Man I love finding these hidden overlooked gems and displaying them on the net! - Ігри
100,000 views. This still remains to be my most popular walkthrough on this channel. Thank you guys so much. Please keep a lookout for some more Metroid and Zelda hacks/rare hidden games I post on this channel!
This game and with updated graphics and interesting different appeal still makes me like and appreciate the original more. Its cause the original is so classic and I love where all the items and secrets are. The original hits home for me so much that's its not even about graphics anymore. And I still appreciate the look of the 8-bit game even now in 2020. And I'll still dig the look in 2030 and 2040 and that says a lot for an 8-bit game how classic the original will always be. 👍
Can someone please tell me where to get this game? Please!
@@douglasbrownell2704 EBay Zelda SNES BS
They could make Zelda All-Stars on Nintendo Switch, and combine it with the existing Super Mario All-Stars, in SNES style, or incorporate it into a reissue of SNES Classic Edition.
Snes Classic is out fo the question now, you can only hope for the first option at this point
The cherry on top would be super Zelda maker
Too much effort for Nintendo. It’s not an already existing thing and it’s not a Wii U game
Gelato101 Fire Emblem Maker would be less effort for Nintendo than Legend of Zelda Maker.
@@davidhill8565 Zelda maker wouldn't be *too* bad. They'd just need to be thorough in text censorship.
17:26 "no"
Okay everyone. I've been getting several repeated questions about this game so I'll lay a FAQ in this comment.
Q: Is this really a remake?
A: Yes. This was released in Japan on BS-X on the Super Famicon system. I don't think there was a physical release of this anywhere. To my knowledge, players were presented this game live during the 90s. Each week for 1 month an episode of the game was released. Players had to get through the game as much as possible before it cuts off on them. Link was not a character to play as. It was usually a boy or girl they had to choose. Someone during the days of Emulation has found this game and made it playable for emulators. This version I'm playing is patched to keep it from crashing due to the original having a time limit. There are several different versions of this game. I'm using Third Quest for that main purpose.
Q: What does BS stands for?
A: Broadcast Satellite. It's basically a expansion pack for the Super Famicon.
Q: I can't find the rom on the page.
A: Click the link, check on the left side. Look under "BS The Legend of Zelda". Click "Files". Check section II. There are 4 versions of it or more if you look further.
1. BS Zelda Restoration Map 1
2. Legend of Zelda - Third Quest (The one I'm using)
3. BS Zelda Link Version Map 1
4. MottZilla Project
Read the info about how each rom works.
Q: How do you play as Link?
A: I'm using a patch found in Section E in the BS Legend of Zelda topic.
Q: Is it identical to the original version?
A: Gameplay wise yes. Main difference is it now has different level designs, new environmental hazards, new upgrades, and much more. It still keeps it faithful to those who played the NES game.
Do people not know how to Google something?
I heard it's way simpler than the NES version, the dungeons designs etc
@condor67 It's pretty easy, you'll have no problem beating it if you've played the NES one.
@@tartuffethesprywonderdog5883 I've never played the NES version, that remastered version is quite interesting, I'll give it a try for sure
@@condor.67 *remade
I wish Nintendo wouldn't sit on this game and just re-release it!!
Me too. I've hoped for years now they'd make a modern day graphic update and release of Zeldas 1, 2 & 3. I'm always holding out hope but it doesn't look like its on their agenda, at least not as of yet. They seem to veer toward open-world Zelda games like BOTW, and when they do release the old titles its just ports to 3DS or the Switch. I dunno, its corporate world mindsets I guess! :)
@@mattterry6197 Although they haven't truly remade A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds is a very similar game so that somewhat counts as an updated Zelda 3 🤷
there might be problems as I'm not sure they have the original source code.
@@GiordanDiodato
They don’t need the original source code for TLoZ. How hard do you think it is to cook up some engine that displays tiles, animations, and can handle the simple mechanics this game has?
The Source Code went Down with St.GIGA
The dungeon music is way creepier than the NES version.
Naw
to me it's the dungeon theme ft. ganondorf
Yes the orig labyrinth BGM still scares me....
I agre, especially when Dodongo be making creepy noises everytime he moves around.
It sounds like something you'd hear from Castlevania.
I gotta say, I really love how impactful that enemy death sound is XD
It's cool that you blow up the statue's mouths on the walls because in the original Zelda game manual there's a drawing of Link entering doors similar to that
I just realized. The dungeon maps spell out St. Giga. Clever easter egg...
It’s a shame we will never officially be able to play this
This is delicious!! Great job!!
when you realise the snes has a lower default resolution than the nes
nes: 256x240
snes: 256x224
SNES Resolution: between 256x224 and 512x448. This game was chosen be match the original closer.
Average TV screen caps out at about 224 visible scan lines anyway. So the top and bottom rows of tiles on the NES couldn't be seen at all unless you play with the vertical hold.

This looks like the best port of the original Zelda! This I gotta play!
Aw man I want this! Original is cool and all but man I want a remake.
Damn ! I didn't know there was a Zelda 1 remake. It looks like an alternative Zelda 3 version though.
Nintendo needs to release this for the SNES on the Switch
But unfortunately the Source Code was shared between Nintendo and St. GIGA, whose partnership ended like in 1999
My my, this has been incredibly well hidden since the end of Satellaview broadcasts!
And i had to be born 2 years after the End of Satellite Broadcasts :( and in South America nonetheless
Just learnt this was a thing today. They really tried with this remake
looks better then what I'm use to but disappointed that when your a room away from the boss you dont hear them growling.
little thing like that I always loved in games
It's ironic that on a system with ample sampled capabilities they make less use of sampled sounds than on the NES, with its limited DMC sample playback capability.
Then was I not hearing it next to the manhala room?
The original Zelda NES labyrinth BGM still scares and give me some chills.... this one is not....
This is great :)
Love this game!!!
this is the bs-x version for the superfamicom made in japan for a thing called satellaview which was kinda like dlc you could say and then i saw a vid about it on did you know gaming and can you get me out of this well thats why theres an echo in this room
Ok this is so cool.
Am I the only one that thinks it looks nicer on the NES?
Woah, I had no idea this existed! O:
It's fairly obscure.
Perfect remake of the original game
I wish it had the NES outfit with the cross on the shield and the brown hair
Hey man where can I find the Link sprite patch? I don't like they default Link sprite with Link with yellow Jair. Thanks
2:11 this game has voice acting (don't ask how or why it isn't here) I guess that's why there is a long pause
Bro, I didn't even know a remake of this existed.
Because it was Satellite Broadcast-Exclusive to Japan
Why did they leave/put an upside down apostrophe where the time text originally was? Does it serve a purpose?
How were you able to get the blue candle to show up in your rom? He doesn't sell it for me... :(
Wait till the time reaches 1:57 then you will start the next chapter. In chapter 2 the salesman offers you the candle
Technically this was the first video game remaster in history
Nice underworld music.
simplemente excelente
The link sprites in this one are better than the version I have
Is there just a ROM of this somewhere? I'd love to play a straight-up 16-bit version of the original Zelda game.
Someone please help me how do I get the blue candle I checked the shop where you buy it at and it is not there
Is this downloadable? Who ever took the time to make this you did an awesome job. I got the beta i just never have time to sit and make games anymore. But i am taking those my aracde games and making them into arcade games like the simpsons, tmnt, i really want dragons lair
I just can't find the blue candle, on E7 there are arrows instead of candle ...
They should port this remake to mobile, adding a new 5th quest you can make for yourself. Called Legend of Zelda Super Edition, and add a hint button to tell you which dungeon they suggest you like this 'The second dungeon is marked on the map, but you'll need a bomb to blow up a wall.
This is amazing... has anyone made a repro cart of this yet?
+Nintenjoel Here one here www.jcretail.ca/bs-zelda-map-1-2/
@@SuperKB Would've liked it if a new hack of BS Zelda uses proto-sprites of Link, Digdogger, Gleeok, and Lanmola found in the Gigaleak?
Is it possible to play as the BS-Character... whoever those kids' names were?
I would do some dark shit to get a remake of Legend of Zelda with the gameplay and art of Dark Souls.
THIS
Why is the overworld map so much smaller???
Because back then, you can only play the game at certain times so the maps got small so you can make the most of your time.
I wish Nintendo would give this project of creating a remake of the first Zelda to Grezzo like they did with Links Awakening. 🙌😍
GREZZO specializes in 3D Games...
I didnt knew this exist!
I would love Nintendo to release this, but knowing them they would make a limited online thing.
I am going to do a Let's play of this and give you a shoutout for sure :)
NintendoVeteran85 Cool! Thank you!
Super KB anytime :)
where is the gameplay?
Why Nintendo didnt remake the full original game with this graphics? They are awesome!
Because it was co-developed by St.GIGA, which ceased operations as a Game Co-Developer in the Y2K
Is Only release via download on sattelaview online service only last 2007
What other patches did you use besides third quest? I want to play it, just don't know what the best version is
+testyourmine In the link I posted in the description, there is a section called "C. Important file patches". In that section I used: I, II, and IIIb. And of course the Link patch found in section E. Be sure to read the instructions carefully so you'll know what to patch on afterwards or you'll might screw up your game.
+Super KB Thanks!
+testyourmine No prob!
...oh Jesus it's a _third_ quest
Currently, the best way to play NES The Legend of Zelda c:
I hope it at least get a port or something :/
Not necessarily. This particular version of the remake has some similar level designs, and is from what I've heard a good bit easier. If you want to keep the same challenge the original had, then the NES version would probably be a better choice.
Nah. NES dungeon music is several orders of magnitude better.
Whoa, a wii
I have one too.
so many rupee stashes I didn’t even know about
if only nintendo release this kind but with better sound and also with a zelda 2 remake bundled with zelda a link to the past.
This is awesome would have been nice to have got it and kind of like we got Mario All Stars
they should have added improvements, like music for bosses
I can’t find the correct patches to get this link sprite, can anyone me?
Am I the only one who thinks link in the first nes game is immensily overpowered at the start, what with getting a powerful projectile weapon that never runs out of ammo and a shield right from the start? In link to the past you start with a damn candle.... in Ocorina you start with a flying candle that never shuts up!
*H E Y L I S T E N*
Nintendo should definitely Re make this game in the style of links awakening HD and sell it for 20 - 35
It's like a clone of Neotopia for the PC engine
Is this patch a real remake of the first zelda or is that 3rd quest thing?
+Tony Horo The whole game itself is a remake made from scratch. Its called 3rd quest because its a different map design compared to the 1st and 2nd quest from the original NES Zelda. Its just some patches I used just to keep the game from crashing, encountering any bugs, glitches, and etc.
You can look up some history about this game here: bszelda.zeldalegends.net/bszelda.shtml Click the "BS Zelda Info" on the left side.
Tony Horo oh I don’t know
How to play in the emulator and play it I can play it cant be played
What a beautiful game! Keep up that good job man! What program did you use? I wish make a game too, i'm using Construct 2 :)
Eh I didn't make this game lol. Its made by Nintendo. You can find and read about it in the description.
+Super KB Oh, lol :)
Qual é esse emulador pra rodar esse jogo?
I like the original. I like that its primitive
Dungeon 1 supposed to be eagle map...why here doesnt look like eagle map?
Wait a minute they screwed up! It’s Digdogger not dodungo.
Can someone play the Decorated Map 1 Patch?
Is this a different quest ?
Nintendo struggles to think of a way to include a female protagonist for Botw, but they casually had the option in this game. Nintendo really is a head scratcher, sometimes.
Thats from satellaview
Is this a real game? And where can i get it?
how do i get this game? Please i been trying but don't know how
check the description of the video
mi like el 666 con musica del dungeon de fondo .. hahah
Onde voce encontra essa rom pra jogar no meu emulador de snes
na internet
Nintendo, just release it...
deixei o meu gostei
How do you get this?
Where can i buy this?
Zelda All stars
Is it 100% indentical to the original or does it have things/dungeons/secrets changed?
It has different dungeon level designs, environmental hazards, new item powerups, and etc.. but it still keeps it homage to the original in terms of gameplay.
So is this basically a patch combining all 4 episodes, removing the timer and introducing Link in it? After reading a lot about BS Zelda no Densetsu I'm still so confused as to what you had to do to 100% the game at the time, since in the beginning of each episode you always start with 3 hearts again and apparently default gears...
@@AndreQozine Very late reply but in terms of gaming, 100% means collect all items, upgrades, secrets, etc.
I want this
I clickied the link, but can't find the rom on the page.
Click the link, check on the left side. Look under "BS The Legend of Zelda". Click "Files" and then scroll down and click "2, The Legend of Zelda - Third Quest rom".
I can't just directly link it due to the website's shenanigans.
If they'd just kept the overworld map just a 16 bit version of the original Legend of Zelda's Overworld, went along with the Master Sword instead of the Magical Sword, and did a few other minor adjustments, this game would have been much better.
Not bad, but the original NES Zelda was better than this one.
It does use the original map. This is a very specific version of the remake that has remixed level design.
Why pay for the items when ya just freed them from their cavernous prisons? I mean they were obviously trapped in there then they charge ya when only explosivess could free them...
Is this for the NES or the SNES?
it's for the Super Famicom
esto parece mas un juego de SEGA Genesis que de SNES
Even though this remake never left Japan, it kinda look and feel like a lazy remake to me. The opening intro sounds okay but the title screen looks like a still image, the waterfall doesn't even animate unlike the original and just froze there. The transcend to night also did not happen. When Link got his new item or weapon in dungeon, there are no jingle sound and when he approach close to the dungeon boss lair, there were no roaring sounds unlike the original which lose a bit of that Zelda feel to me. It doesn't look like a bad game but it does look a bit on the lazy side.
I have a Cartridge of that also, but Link wear a shitty Base-Cap not his green Head like in your Video 😕
Bullshit: The Legend of Zelda just might be the game for me if I'm looking to play something a little more archaic when it comes to a classic Zelda game
Notice that Level 3 map got changed in this version because the NES version had a Nazi sized map assuming the outrage caught up in Japan by the mid 90s I guess....lol
The only problem with this remake is that it's way too easy and unchallenging. The smaller and simplified overworld is also a step down from the original Zelda.
U cant get the master sword with only beating 2 levels!
i thought the BS meant bullshit
