  • Josh Strife Hayes has a real talk about react content, how it and asmongold affected his content creator career, benefits and the worth of making your original content from ground up in the day and age of react content being the meta.
This is not a video on how anyone should change their behaviour or stop watching any specific category of videos or content creators as stated later in the video (19:40). "I dont want anyone to stop waching Asmongold. I find him very entertaining. I dont want anyone stop watching people who entertain you." -Josh

All Josh needs to do is make his own content, then react to it, and finally react to himself reacting to himself.

I found Josh's channel due to directly looking for a review of an MMO. He got my subscription because of a joke he made about "boobs", then said, "if you just looked over from your other monitor, then you should subscribe" or something along those lines.. I was listening to the video on my other monitor and looked over when he made the joke, so he deserved it..

I just wanna say that personally, I'll take breaks from Asmongold and the other people I follow who mainly do reaction stuff. They come and go like the wind. But I never skip an upload from you, because I know it's why I'm here. To be entertained by someone who has something to say, rather than someone who either agrees or disagrees with what you said. If I want the latter, I got the comments section. The irony of me saying this on the "Says" channel is not lost on me. But hopefully you get to see it all the same.

The best reaction content is when an expert reacts to something in their field.

I'll throw this out there. As someone who started with reactions, I could knock out 7 in a day and have them scheduled. It's very easy content to make.

Asmongolds react video always appears before the original video in my subscription feed. I think that reactors should have the respect to leave it a couple of days before putting up their react video so that the original video can get it's full amount of views. When you discover the original video for the first time through the reaction you have lost views. Watching the reaction first completely negates the need to watch the original video.

I personally think youtube should introduce a partial claim to videos. If Asmongold or other streamers react to your content you should be able to claim a part of the revenue. After all they not only get youtube views but since they also do it live on stream they basically double dip on both markets.

"when I create my own work I profit from it the least" - that's actually how most of the artists are. many of the now renowned painters died in poverty

Love the discussion. I've wanted to talk about this with someone ever since I saw DarkViperAU's series covering all of this but most people don't seem to care. Great to hear the thoughts of one of the OC creators I enjoy.

An easy fix to this whole debacle would be for YT to update it's system so that the reactor pays ~10-30% in Royalties to the creator they are reacting to.

It sounds like Josh is describing starting to get burnout. Once he's starting to think about effort vs reward for output, it can become really demoralizing to keep making content.

For what it is worth I find a lot of value in your content and that is why I watch your main channel stuff as it hits, and I also find watching you interesting due to who you (appear, online persona etc. ) to be. And that is why I sometimes watch these videos.

Damn. When Josh said it “feels weird” when he uploads his own content and someone else benefits more than he does, that hit different. I’ve never had my opinion changed so fast before.

You reacting to Asmongold reacting to you was a masterclass is content creation. When you polled the stream and said you'd start over, I laughed my ass off. Make what you want, your videos make my day happier.

There's definitely diminishing returns each time the same reacting person (Asmongold here) keep reacting to the same channel(s) (here Josh).

The reaction timing is what appears to be the problem. If the reactions took place 2-3 weeks after a video released, content creators will have had the opportunity for the view cycle to conclude. But, by reacting within hours or days after a video is released, the reaction becomes the primary way to view the original content.

On the one hand the reacting to the reaction of the reaction meta is something I dread.

Actually, It would be great if youtube, twitch and other platforms would make content creators share profits for reacting to videos.

I found Josh when I was looking up a specific MMORPG. Then I started watching all his content till I came across his craziest MMORPG ever mini series (I forgot the exacttitle). Shared that with a friend and he watched the whole thing before I got done with it. We're both happy with our subs.
