- The candidates in the San Francisco 2024 mayoral election face off on the city's pressing issues in a debate co-presented by City Arts & Lectures and Manny's.
Candidates included in the debate were: Incumbent Mayor London Breed, former mayor Mark Farrell, Daniel Lurie, Aaron Peskin and Ahsha Safaí.

One thing is for dam sure - I will not vote for Breed. She has got SF into the point of no return.
Mayor London claims she’s cracked down on homelessness, built more affordable housing, and prioritized public safety, but how could it possibly be true? Crime, drug use, and homelessness are everywhere and the problems are getting worse! I’ve lived in San Francisco for 20 years, and it’s never been this bad.
The rise in property values and in rent is the worst it has ever been. The City needs money and besides we have a limited amount of space. Also, the idea of middle class rent is based on the medium income (AMI) for the region. There's a lot of high salaried people here now. Affordable rent is a factor of $8,741 per person. I don't know many people who make that amount.
The housing she created is for her friends from Pittsburgh and Antioch . .....to come here to vote for her😅

Well if you have been in SF for 20 years, why don’t you blame Aaron Peskin? He has been on the board of supervisors for almost two decades.

Her overreaction to covid with school closures, lock downs, destroying businesses and livelihoods while she partied to Tony Toni Toné is enough reason to send her packing.

London Breed is turning SF into another Oakland
Wow, Breed's opening statement starts by insulting the other candidates, claiming they want us to feel bad about San Francisco and are "working against San Francisco", whatever the heck that means. Then she says crime in SF is at the lowest it's been in 10 years, and later she blames the downtown slums on the pandemic. Shamelessly haughty and unbelievably out of touch. She has to go, anyone but her.
I'm left feeling underwhelmed by the overall lack of new ideas/proposals from all the candidates, but Mark Farril seems to be the best option here, followed closely by Daniel Lurie.
Farrell is the clear choice,Lurie sadly is the runnerup.
Please London move on so far you bring the city down crime rates in San Francisco are high homeless drugs lots of businesses are closed down because of you London you’re fire
For years, she down played the issues, and ignored them. When the businesses where getting looted, she was silent. Only in the past year, did she start doing something and saying something. Too little too late.

Downtown is a ghost town. There are are more empty shops and offices than ever. No tourists and barely any foot traffic. Thanks to crime, there are security guards everywhere and you can no longer just walk into shops and browse. It's beyond depressing for residents and an embarrassment for city leadership. Shreve is going, Gumps is barely hanging on, Britex is greatly diminished. Our cities historic and world famous heritage businesses as well as our unique independent shops and restaurants have been obliterated.

She hired Tumlin who has turned city streets into a war zone with insane slow streets,( sidewalks are for people,roads are for cars and other vehicles) speedbumps,parklets that hide stop signs(46 and Taraval).The L Taraval will not go through the tunnel.Tumlin has decided unconstitutionaly that he can demand for a garage door be opened to see if a car can fit in when your driveway is blocked.That is an illegal search without a warrant signed by a judge.A 5.5 million dollar free store for food when the food bank is losing funds. What a waste of money.Not a efficient ,notcost efficient way to give away food.I guests there will be a big dumpster for all the rotton food because the limited amount of distribution time.The food pantries are not good enough for a tiny minority of people? 10:07

There are noooo Republicans or independents left here in San Francisco....or the state of California. Only progressives and Communists 😅
the reason for that is because San Francisco is a city that typically votes left wing, a republican candidate can run but they will likely lose, because the citizens do not like republican policies.
London Breed, you have turned SF into a joke, as much I want my frds to come visit me, I now telling them not to because I don't want them to get robbed or killed. What have you done these few years besides holding your bubble tea or whatever drinks and attended those chinese celebration events only. Too many victims in SF and you gotta go.
She has hired Tumlin who has created massive chaos on roads.

Breed sounds like she's trying to convince herself of her statements.
SF labeled itself a sanctuary city, then CA as a state followed suit. These clowns think getting tough on homelessness and crime will do the trick, when their own policies caused the problem in the first place. The hue and cry is we need better leaders - well, you're not getting it from this panel of politicians. Expect more of the same.
The housing shortage is exacerbated by illegal immigration.
Breed, Peskin, and Safari are the current mayor or supervisor, the very people governing SF who got us into this terrible mess. So definitely can’t vote for them, it would be rewarding failure. Farrell and Laurie both seem to be well meaning and decent guys. But Farrell has the previous city governing experience, Lauries would need on the job training which would be risky.
The board of supervisors is a lot of the problem. Would you agree ?

I have never heard of a political debate that you had to pay to watch! Was going to watch online since the venue was "sold out" (literally). Watching on line was $11.75! Glad I didn't waste my money.
Moderator says at the beginning they can any rules they want, then later says they can’t change the rules in the middle of the debate. I want exactly pleased with the moderators. I felt they behaved a kind of whimsically.

@@jb94103 By Ambulance chaser, I mean anytime something happens in the city, regardless of what neighborhood, he's on the scene to get camera time from the news crews. What he usually says makes little sense when you put it into context. He just wants the airtime and publicity. He uses tragedies and twists them to push his agenda forward, even when his solutions have nothing to do with the cause of the tragedy, like when that women ran over the baby in the stroller on a right turn from a stop, and his solution was... SPEED CAMERAS! It's not about what will actually prevent these tragedies from happening again, it's about pushing his agenda forward by chasing the limelight.
Why on earth would politicians read from talking points per question at a debate. Shameful.
It's normal. All politicians generally know what they will be questioned on in a debate setting.

The moderators were terrible, especially that woman. They sounded like UA-cam/TikTok dummies and couldn’t take the debate seriously. They skipped candidates and only asked direct questions to certain candidates. They also didn’t allow open rebuttals unless they were called by name. What a poorly managed debate. And it wasn’t a debate because there was little to no discussion just stating prewritten stances.
I found the NYT bureau chief's? voice irritating.

During covid the pandemic the bike coalition still got their money and did nothing.The stupid voters were swayed by the bike coalition and mta's manipulation of surveys.Remember the bike coalition is a paid lobby group making huge amounts of money to brainwash everyone else of the need for bike causes

Farrell is the only reasonable choice.Breed has stolen parking for rent a crap bikes,car shares and parklets that hide oncoming traffic. The horrible L Taraval rebuild is anti safety,disabled and business.
My prediction is .....a close race and it'll take 2 weeks to complete counting and Breed will win the race by a nose length....the fix is in.
Breed lying again. i used to go downtown every week or so. i loved it. drug addicts and bums all over is why i stopped going. that is why people stopped riding public transportation. not safe

All of these candidates are inauthentic. San Franciscans are priced out. Instead of promising affordable housing we need to slash the rents to 1995 levels and rebuild. The money we’re flushing down the toilet on homeless services should be redirected to support people who are contributing rather than people who are destroying the place. We also need to layoff all the senior level management in City Government and promote people who will fix this mess. We also need to turn the “everybody’s a victim” knob down and make the cable cars free for tourists and City residents and stop ripping everybody off when they come visit. The rest will take care of itself. If we continue with the same old bullshit the City will further deteriorate.
San Francisco needs public safety from drug addicts, better housing for sober people, and housing authority hasn't been able to assist those that have been on housing listings. San Francisco needs cleaner streets. Mark or Dan are the two that seem to, make good decisions/change.
It doesn't not cost 600k to install an indoor outhouse. 600k should have been an innovative space designed by a master architect. Bathroomgate was embarrassing.

He could barely even make eye contact with the very people he is trying to convince to vote for him because he was too busy looking down at queue cards. We've been lapped 10x over by true world class cities with transit systems, housing and vibrant multi-functional centers.
