Huh? Senate has no power to convict and acquit. Hontiveros et.al. are supposed to be doing this in aid of legislation. In Tagalog - NAGIIMBESTIGA CLA PARA MAKAGAWA NG BATAS. Thats the extent of the Senators constitutionally mandated powers. SP Escudero is correct when he said. they should file a case instead.

Poe’s case is different. The question of having a Filipino mother and father for citizenship is not relevant because she is legally adopted thus she is Filipino. This Guo’s is not. The father is Chinese. The mother is not existent. Her information is fraud. Therefore, no Filipino citizenship for her.

Sen Escudero, Sen Grace’s case is different from Alice Guo. Sen Grace was a baby found left in the church. While Alice Guo has declared she has a Chinese Father. It is different case which has to be dealt differently.
I think Mayor Guo migrated here with her parents as business visa. So Mayor Guo is not borned here. Now their business was flourishing so they need to buy land for more business so the parents maybe decided to apply then Mayor Guo for Filipino citizenship. How did she apply for citizenship? He’s not protecting her, he’s just stating facts. Emphasize on his words, that if “may nahanap then alisin” he meant that if they really proved that she’s Chinese and she’s involved in the crime, then obviously removed her from the position and file case against her. He’s pointing on how they are handling the case, as what I’ve understood, his words come out as if there hasn’t been any progress in terms of the truth behind the POGO as to the people involved, as he said no people have been arrested. Again FACTS, he’s after FACTS. And he’s even stating ways on how to investigate it.

As a public servant he should be thinking on the best interest of the filipino people. He doesn't need to answer and say things that would look like he is the lawyer of Ghou. Even if it is about due process the thing is that Ghou is not his client. Or is it? As public servant they should carry themselves according to the norms of the profession and the conduct they ought to practice as public servant.
I think he's not defending Gou, he's saying that senators should face the reality and focus on heavier strikes. Instead of questioning her identity file a case specifically an admistrative case. After all, when the public scrutiny is done, if they won't file a case she'll still keep her position.
He just spoke facts. It might not be what you wanted to hear from him. But he just stated that they would have to go through the court to have Guo removed from her government position and possibly deported from the country. That's due process. You may not like it, but there's nothing you can do about it other than yap about it. As a public servant and lawmaker, he needs to show that they are willing to go through due process and let the court judges decide.

The analogy is not consistent. The issue is Guo is suspected to be a sleeper agent implanted by China. Implanted not as a child. But as a grown up. Very alarming for a third highest ranking official in the government to be nonchalant or ambivalent about the case of Guo when what is at stake is the national security of the country.
He knows how to play the law, that applies to politics for his personal agenda....in the coming days we will know its utmost goal if it's for the country or for his p interest.
