As an ordinary Ghanaian I can’t see the difference between the NPP and NDC in relation to how the economy is run. Both parties are committed to neoliberal “free “market capitalism. What Ghana needs is a complete fundamental reform of the economy not what party is best at managing the economy. In the 1970s a Ghanaian economist named Ebo Hutchful wrote a book titled Ghana and IMF In that he exposed the fallacy in IMF’s one size fits all approach to economic development. Ghana must move away from IMF solutions to our economic problems So long as Ghana continues to be an Import dependent economy the structural reforms required for growth, job creation and economic development will be remain a mirage M
It is very practical. It all depends on the implementations. Let me tell you this; Ghana has capable people with excellent ideas but the ideas are not implemented (get to be practical) because of our attitude towards public service. We don’t want the state to grow, we rather want our pockets to grow 😢
This kind of misconception is one of the reasons for our current situation. What you call academic analysis is a rigorous and careful evaluation of what the problem is… the question is, will we all subject ourselves to the recommendations after such analysis? The developed world depends on what you call academic analysis to make sound judgement for development. I’m a firsthand witness to such academic analysis. When I was in school in Germany, most companies bring their problems from industry for our professors to work on and find solutions. Sometimes, we (the students) were included in such investigations. And we benefited from the experience. Let’s grow up!!
@@emmanuelgbeyI would have appreciate it even better, if you had highlighted your firsthand experience on the implementation of such academic analysis or theory. Nobody is against academic analysis, but where do we go from there. Evidence based practice or theory should affirm as such.
@ the job of the academic is to investigate and report. The job of the leaders in government is to read the report and implement. What happens is that the readers don’t read the report or even think of implementing it. In the rare chance they don’t read the report, they will say it is sponsored by their opponents because it highlights the ineffectiveness of their leadership. We need a total overhaul of our attitude towards public service and leadership.
Excellent Submission by the Professor. Hopefully the new government can take some cue from this. Very informative.
Brilliant submission sir

Splendid academic analysis. How practical can these analysis be?

Why is the guy on his phone whilst on tv?
Say it again!! It seems that in Ghana even the politicians will be on their phones whilst on camera.
You are talking about being on phone whilst on TV Have you watched the parliamentarians in parliament, they have no ethics.
Academic analysis is simpler than practical analysis and I am sure Dr Bawumiah had already demonstrated this!!
