I cannot even begin ti express how grateful I am that this exists... I have listened to the 3 minute snippet of this so many times, and now I have the full version. It's so beautiful, it feels like it's out of this world..
Totally agree with you, I was able to purchase e the DVD with this performance but to have it on UA-cam is priceless. My opinion, this is the greatest rendition of this masterpiece.
As a student in 1959 (? I think it was) I was busking Bach in a highly resonant shopping arcade in Leicester Square. Mr. Alec Sherman, Menuhin's assistant, introduced himself and most kindly arranged a meeting at Witanhurst, the home of Lady Crosfield, where the maestro was staying. I played the Chaconne. Yehudi's first response was a non-committal "You have made me very happy". Pressed timidly for advice he suggested I was perhaps playing too expressively.."Let the music speak for itself." Several years later this recording shows that he was beginning to allow himself a little more interpretation.
Szeryng,Milstein, Francescatti, Menuhin,Kremer ( the last One). This the Olympus. Each One for the personal rendition and the beauty of sound, from the old gold generation
Oh dear Menuhin, how you soothe my soul and give me comfort through your music on this lonely day of sorrow. May you always rest in peace.
INTERPRETATION. For this is Bach music. Hope you feel better, death is not an option for it is all man destiny.
❤
This piece is unique. On the top of all masterpieces. Maybe in a thousand year we'll witness another piece like this
I've listened to endless interpretations of this work and none move me to tears like Menuhin's recording here. Otherworldly. Godlike. Miraculous.
Agreed! The only version that has brought me to tears as well. Something magic is going on. Especially the last part of the song.
It sounds so much sweeter then most of the others playing it...
The descending part starting at 12:26 is absolutely heartbreaking

@@sylvio1980 I like Enescu's performance slightly more overall, but that *ending*, holy shit, how Menuhin plays the bit at 12:25 is insane

How many times did you have to listen to this piece to start like it?
How many parts it has, there are definitely few changes?
