That Deerling would've needed a perfect 31 IV and 248 EVs, or 30 IV and 252 EVs in order to hit 143 at level 65. That was nearly perfect by sheer chance.
I love competitive nerd stuff!
They did the math!
You mean "by _deer_ chance."
@@EVPointMaster YES!
30 IVs only need 250 EVs
14:38 So I checked with a stat calculator, and at Lv. 65, a neutral nature Deerling with max Attack IVs and EVs would have 144 Attack. So yeah, your Deerling with 143 Attack had max or near-max Attack IVs and had incidentally maxed or near-maxed its Attack EVs.
Also, he somehow managed to avoid getting any SpDef EVs
@@silverrey7379 It is a pain in the but to get Special Defence EVs in BW, at least for a playthrough. The earliest ones are Frillish if I remember right from my attempts at a nuzlocke. All the other EVs you can get pretty easy, especially ATK as the first route is only ATK ev pokemon, and the next several are very heavy on ATK EV pokemon. Prior to the first gym you only get Attack and Speed.
And Feint Attack would have 2HKO'd most of Shauntal's Pokémon.
@@silverrey7379 The area outside the normal gym, where he trained, doesn't have any! It has three Atk pokemon and one Speed!
@@BardicLasher Don't forget the Lillipups, Patrats and Purrloins on route 2. Is so easy to gain attack in the early game of Black/White...
Deerling learns Faint Attack which would've been a physical move against Ghost. It's pretty weak, but better than anything you'd use with that special attack.
This Deerling was insane. Near perfect EVs and IVs for its Attack stat, STAB Return, and a powerful Fighting move for the Rock and Steel types that resist Normal moves.
Old link died before I could comment.
Now maybe I missed it but I think we missed something very important - you didn't take a fossil so I can't comment to ask which one you took! This is an outrage!
Fun run
Undeertaker honestly made me laugh so much until he threw Mankind off the top of hell in the cell and he plummeted 16ft through an announcers table
IMO its more impressive that he managed to climb back up afterwards and undertaker slammed him through the top of the cage into the ring
Dude, it was a jump kick to Ghetsis off the top of his castle, and that was awesome.
Undeertale...
(dis dood got yeeted)
One of these days I would love to see him try to take on Cynthia in these gen 5 challenges. She is the secret final boss like Steven was in Emerald
Same! I would love to see him challenge her (with rare candies ofc)
I honestly don't know why he doesn't know that he knows we're okay with him using rare candies after he beats the game
@@SoggyCoffeeAddicthe knows, I think he just forgets because we’ve been over that several times😊
To be fair something like deerling would definitely be destroyed though maybe not his insane perfect attack iv one but normal ones for sure
DUDE. I played gen 5 before gen 4, and while exploring post-game I ran into her, not knowing she was a boss. I got WRECKED and was so excited to train up to fight her again
Hmm... I think using Feint Attack on the Ghosts would have worked better than Shadow Ball since it's physical. It sucks that Deerling only gets Seed Bomb by tutor in B2W2 and doesn't get Horn Leech before evolving. EDIT: I checked the Showdown Damage Calculator and your Deerling was a guaranteed 2HKO against Cofagrigus with Feint Attack. Just equip a berry to cure burn.
On our way through, I took the plume fossil. I knew if I didn’t say what I took you’d all ask. Actually now that I think about it everyone ask anyway. Comments are good for the UA-cam algorithm.

Deerling and Sawsbuck is one of my favorite Pokemon from Gen V, and was excited to see it back in all its forms in Scarlet and Violet. In Gen 6 you could only get the Spring version without breeding a transferred Deerling and Gens 7 and 8 just didn’t have him.
Gen 5 is really cool. Would love to see a Litwick only run
Or gen 6 runs as well, a lot of great Pokemon to try
So, your grinding spot of choice has Tympole, Pidove, Sawk, and Timburr. Of these, Pidove, Sawk, and Timburr give Attack EVs, while Tympole gives Speed EVs. By grinding here this early, you likely maxed out Deerling's attack EVs, so it probably had 30 IV, which is still very good. Maybe keep this in mind for future runs: If you want Attack, that grinding spot will get you lots of it.
That was an absolutely nutty run. GG, MDB! And I hope you and whoever else you're living with that's been ill for a while, both feel better soon! And that the delivery from the butcher came through before the storm
Here's a tip for if you're playing Black 2 or White 2: In Mistralton City Professor Juniper gives you a lucky egg which doubled the amount of exp you gain this has helped me a lot in the late game and help me get Chuck to level 70 with ease
@@Tiberium10332 This is Black, the game forces you to take it
Lucky Egg and the rematchable breeders in B/W 2 are lifesavers for grinding fr
Maybe I got them all in post game, but the last time I played black/white I'm pretty sure I had like. 2-3 lucky eggs, not that I used them
@@SoggyCoffeeAddict Idk where you get them in black and white since I haven't gotten very far in playing that game
@@CrazyCyranYT just checked wiki, apparently it's repeatable in post. Only get 1 and no more without trade in bw 2 though
Fallout 4 with no perks
MDB: I think that's going to be a hard one.
Me when my entire first run was no perks because I didn't scroll down the bar and only saw the skills: Vietnam flashbacks to 2018-2019
Finally!!! I have been waiting too long for the Deerling challenge! So excited!!
That little bit of you taking like 3 steps and getting attacked in victory road, multiple times in a row, sums up what Gen 5 feels like with rival fights honestly.
Gen 8 rival fights
The Deerling line is one of my favorite! I know you lucked out with the attack stat, but I still choose to believe that this video shows that Deerling is in the top percentage of Pokemon and its a crime it was so hard to have one in your party after gen V, at least until Scarlet/Violet
These challenge runs are always funniest to imagine in-universe in Black and White, considering how high-stakes and personal the story is in those games. Just the idea of demolishing N's legendary dragon with this small deer and then sweeping the final boss with it always makes me laugh. These challenge runs are great!
Gen 5 runs are always such a treat! Shame they're so difficult thanks to the level curve.
“We took a ton of damage, got burned and lost”
Yep that sounds like a Shauntal fight in a single Pokémon run.
Nice job. Go Deerling go.
I don't think I've ever seen a deerling challenge run before. I like
Love the work and I’m glad to see you going into the later gens more and more!!!
An idea should you ever do another one of these runs! I get why you replaced Snivy with Deerling, but maybe pick a starter so that one rival always has the advantage and one ISN'T weak to you!
To elaborate, I did a run of BW with Klutz Golett and I replaced Tepig so that both rivals had a starter effective against me (It was absolutely brutal)!
It makes me think how different this run would be like had Bianca had Emboar and Cheren had Serperior!
I love how Krookodile's Intimidate saved you from being knocked out by its Foul Play.
Angry Bambi just smashing through the Big Bad's personal monster army with only a little "natural enhancement" was good for a laugh!
I love the little bits at the ends of your videos like the mini rant bits
I love Black and white and always love Black and White videos.
I have an idea for a unique challenge: Pokémon but you can only use stab moves, but you can make an exception at the first rival battle because you’ll get your first stab move immediately after
I'm glad to see another Gen 5 run. I completely understand why you don't do them much, but that just makes it more exciting when there is one.
You know, I was so dumb in my playthrough of Black when I was a child that I never actually got past Shauntel (my fault for having my only good Pokemon being Serperior and Stoutland) that it made me forget that a lot of Gen 5 Pokemon are really good. This was a great reminder
15:29 I 1000% thought you were gonna say "we're fucked" lol
This was a fun run to watch!
Random words of the "Day"™: day 550, 551, and 552: coax, goatee, labyrinth
Who would expect for Deerling to be a good Pokemon? I knew Sawsbuck was good but wow. Nice Run MDB, I can wait to see how the no perks run goes
MDB after you hit level 32 (when deerling naturally learns energy ball) and have the tm for grass knot (and have access to the move reminder [Driftveil]), you would be able to switch between energy ball and grass knot interchangeably. If your deerling had energy ball and you wanted it to have grass knot, all you would have to do is use the grass knot tm, and if your deerling had grass knot and you wanted it to have energy ball, all you would have to do is pay the move reminder one heart scale to relearn it.
However, this introduces another problem, how to get infinite heart scales (legit), but luckily, in Driftveil there is an npc who will give you one heart scale per day if you show her a pokemon with whatever TM/HM move she wants to see that day. So, for instance she might ask you to show her a pokemon which knows cut, at which point you pull out your handy-dandy HM slave and score a free heart scale. Repeatedly setting your clock forward a day would allow you to get something like a heart scale every 2-5 minutes, I would estimate. And it gets better too! The "move lover," as bulbapedia terms her, will only ever ask to see moves that you already have the TM or HM for, meaning that in this one pokemon challenge she will only ask for a pokemon knowing Grass knot (which your Deerling should already know if you are trying to teach it energy ball), all the required HM's which you presumably already have a pokemon for, and the required TMs the gym leaders give you: Retaliate, Volt Switch, Work Up, Dragon Tail, Struggle Bug, Bulldoze, Frost Breath, and Acrobatics.
To that purpose, I would recommend (for future gen V runs if the same problem occurs) catching a scraggy (retaliate, dragon tail, & work up), a dwebble (bulldoze & struggle bug), an emolga (acrobatics & voltswitch), & any gen V ice type (frost breath). While you might be tempted to use the pan--- pokemon (the elemental monkey) the game forces on you since they learn acrobatics and work up, I can promise you that it would not be worth it unless you plan on getting lucky. (If you want to know why, it is in the next paragraph.)
There actually is another 4 (first form) pokemon combination that fulfills all of the required TM's AND include the free monke: a Pan--- monkey (acrobatics & work up), a Druddigon (retaliate, bulldoze, dragon tail), a Joltik (struggle bug & voltswitch), and any ice type (Frost breath); however, Druddigon and Joltik are both problems because you run into them after you get to Driftveil city, the first point in the run that this method of swapping moves should be possible. This is problematic because Druddigon is supposed to represent 3 TM's including retaliate, which you will certainly get before druddigon and even Driftveil (the second gym leader, Lenora, gives it to you). Thus, when you get to Driftveil, you are inable to necessarily get one heart scale per resetting the clock because occasionally the Move Lover will ask you for a pokemon with retaliate, which you won't have yet. The problem is similar in joltik's case: you can not get joltik until beating Clay (they are found in Chargestone cave) but need a joltik to present struggle bug (given to the player by the 3rd gym leader) & voltswitch (given to you by the 4th gym leader). Inevitably you would be forced to catch 3 extra pokemon because no pokemon (you can catch before the elite 4) learns even just two of those (voltswitch, retaliate, and struggle bug) except for joltik, nullifying any advantage you could have gotten by using the free monke.
Concluding statements: I have no idea if this strategy would be time efficient or helpful to you, but I though might as well help expand your Pokemon challenge tool box, especially since it gave me an excuse to research my favorite pokemon game!
(Btw. cubchoo learns frost breath, HM01 cut, HM03 surf, & HM04 strength)
Also, since I got distracted before actually watching the video, I think you are going to succeed. Deerling is pretty good imo though I have never tried one of these challenges so I don't really know if not being able to evolve will really be that detrimental.
Congrats on having the buffest Deerling in Unova right there :P
Also sorry to hear you're getting/you got sick; hope you feel better soon!
Teddy Long: Ghetsis, tonight you're gonna go one on one with....DA UNDEERTAKA!
You could of made this so much easier if you reminded faint attack ( or just kept it) . 60 bp physical super effective move is significantly better then shadow ball or wild charge
I was thinking about Faint Attack, too. Was going back to the Move Reminder too much trouble?
Chandelure's Flame Body might give some trouble.
It's legitimately shocking to me that so many people haven't realized that you refer to your opponent's Pokemon's genders when battling them lmao. That's like one of the first things I noticed about you when I started watching your channel. Keep up, people. 😂
Oh my god that explanation of you getting sick is so relatable, I’ve had that a few times before and it is the worst! I chug so much water when that happens but it’s never enough. Glad I’m not the only one who gets that. You’ve got my sympathy mate.
I want you to know how much I appreciate that you made this video while under the weather! I was born with a compromised and very weak immune system so I catch any and every little bug that comes around. So I know what it’s like to feel like crap and still have to work!! Thank you for all you do, it means a lot, and get well soon so we (your subs) can keep seeing you around.
Undeertaker may be my favorite nickname you’ve ever given a pokemon 😂
Also, in the future for Black and White, doing the elite four again so you can fight Alder as a final boss (similar to Red or Steven) would be really cool
I know you’ve been back in action for a bit now, but it’s really nice to see you back man. Content is great always! 🙂
0:34 before I watch the video, I’m going to guess you took the Plume fossil. Commenting is good for the UA-cam algorithm- so I’m looking forward to the run!
love the Deerling line, but this is going to be rough!
Normal types with Return are so underrated tbh I love having Ursaring/Zangoose/Exploud on my team and just watch them decimate
Oh deer, this looks more challenging than usual. It's good to buck the trend now and then doe.
I always liked Deerling's cry tbh.
Requesting Pokemon B2W2 With Only One Chinchou.
Something for future gen 5 runs. If you go to the house just before the gate that takes you to the desert, you can pick up an eviolite, boosts defense of unevolved pokemon
Deerling line is a top tier design and pretty powerful moves in casual play, underrated mon.
Out of all Pokémon other than Legendaries, Mythicals, Megas and Ash-Greninja, Chandelure has the highest base value for its special attack. So, yes, it really is that much of a beast.
Why I love Chandelure - 145 Base Special Attack. Add in the fact it learns Calm Mind and can learn a variety of Special Coverage Moves, and you have a Pokemon that can be a serious threat. It's a Fire/Ghost Pokemon you don't want to underestimate.
Yeah, Gen 5 was definitely the Power Creep, my friend. And this was all BEFORE Mega Evolution hit.
My idea for a challenge run: any Pokemon without using stab and super effective moves. Shouldn't be too hard but I think it could be fun.
I love learning so much about a Pokémon like Deerling, which I've never used. It really makes you appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into these games, when most people will probably only actually use 10% of any regions given roster of Pokémon.
Which Fossil did you take?
Also speaking about Fossils, how about showing one of them a bit of love again? Pokémon Ruby/Saphire/Emerald with Lileep or Anorith. Or Diamond/Pearl/Platinum with just Cranidos or Shieldon.
Awesome run as always gen 5 runs are always great to see. Hopefully you can fight alder or Cynthia like you would red or Steven in faster runs.
Here's a challenge idea in any pokemon game of your choice use the first pokemon of each gym leaders team to beat the game. Ex: gen 1 Brock Geodude, misty Staryu, surge Voltorb etc. Gen 2 Falkner Pidgey, bugsy metapod, Whitney clafairy, etc. Your choice if you wanna use their exact moveset or not. Hope you enjoy your week and take care
Just got into the intermission about people assuming you made a mistake! I really do appreciate every note you make about your mistakes, nobody is perfect and only few will actually acknowledge their mistakes. It's slightly maddening that people would tear into you, even if their intentions were good.
I love that my personal favorite Pokemon (Chandelure) was such a brick wall for you in this run. Chandelure is a total beast. It's a pain to get it (training Litwick is troublesome), but it's so worth it. Love that haunted chandelier.
Tbh I almost never notice the differences in your voice. You always sound great in your videos.
looking through the early game it's wild to see that almost everything fought and beaten gave ATK EV's up until lvl 32, and if not that it gave SPD, hence the intensely weighted stat spread by the end
it's amazing how black&white runs benefit physical attackers, most trainers will give attack EVs
So glad you're doing better and back. I missed your videos when you were gone. These are so entertaining.
Talk about an underrated mon. Awesome video, and i hope you and your family get well soon 😊
I love how we see deerling change forms throughout the video XD
Return STAB is great in-game plus a fighting move often leads to great coverage except for ghosts types
MDB: I never knew chandelure was such a beast
Me: yeah, if I'm not mistaken. It's a 5 power difference from volcarona right? I remember being super confused to learn that a chandelier was stronger than a pokemon said to have been a replacement sun
10 stronger, Volc has 135 special attack, Chandelure has 145, that's only 9 behind Mewtwo
I will say that this challenge run seems like the one time Camouflage would be a useful move. indoors, it usually makes you a mono normal type. Since Bugsy and Chili are super effective, if you're moveset can handle it, removing your grass typing could've made those fights easier
The Great Bambi?
That whimpy de... no not this one.
This was one IS great
I remember playing pokemon white and destroy 4 gyms with one fighting type pokemon. It was not even my starter. It was just some random pokemon I caught earlier in the game and I went full murder mode with only that pokemon. I didn't even caught more pokemon, my team was just my grass type starter pokemon, a water pokemon and that beast of a fighting type. I almst did the whole game like this.
Really missed an opportunity to have the Undeertakes music play when he first appeared on screen.
Unless that would be a copyright issue, which means that was a smart move not to!
Great video either way!
15:08 “ghost gym” never change MDB
An Idea I think you did something similar to, but expanded: HM [or Field Move] slave only runs for each generation. The Rules:
-You can only use Pokemon that can learn 2+ HMs, ones that can learn them naturally are preferable
-You must replace all or as many of your moves with HMs ASAP
-While you can double up on HP moves among your team, by the time you get the last HM, you must have all the HM moves represented, with the minimum number of pokemon to have at least 1 copy of each.
-Optional: If a move is considered an HM in any game in the series, even if not in the game you are playing, it can be taught if the pokemon doesn't already have 4 HM moves that are not duplicated elsewhere in the team.Similarly, field moves like Dig count as honorary HMs and can fill the 4th move slot if needed, but are not required
Ok, I swear that Gen 5 was the worst about glass cannons. Like, a LOT of fights in that one, for me at least, came down to "Can I 1 shot them? No? I'm dead."
"Would you believe it if I said the electric gym wasn't a problem"- +8 levels and Super Saiyan attack stat deerling
I have two ideas for some runs:
Vulpix in the generation of you choice. I could see Gen 5 being interesting for some move variety, however i'm not sure, if you can get some interesting before the post game.
Second idea: How about an Eeveelution run? I suppose Gen 4 diamond/perl/platin might be interesting for you. You can obtain all evolution stones, all friendship evolutions and the back then new gen 4 evolutions. Otherwise gen 2 in crystal might be interesting, even though it's post game you get the stones.
I looked it up and the first couple routes before Unova's first gym have Atk, Spd, and Hp EVs. Patrat & Lilipup, Purlion & Pidove, and Munna Respectively. So basically, getting stuck on the first gym save you time in the run.👀
12:56 drayden showing off his wisdom of age lol
Since you mentioned editing out the sniffles my mind is adding in a sniffle between every pause - just for immersion ^^
I've been watching a shit ton of Fallout and Skyrim/Oblivion challenges by Nerbit and Mitten Squad, and I'm super excited to hear about the upcoming Fallout 4 challenge. I've missed your Bethesda challenges!
Some challenge ideas;
Fallout New Vegas with only Wild Wasteland items.
Pokémon Platinum with only Slakoth
Pokemon Crystal with only Slowpoke
And, since I hear you love Fire Emblem, how about a Fire Emblem challenge where you can only use the units you start the game with? You pick whichever FE game. Probably not Sacred Stones since you only start with two and one of them is the god-saint Seth, so maybe FE6 or Shadow Dragon?
This is insanity. Near perfect attack IV and EV on that bloody deerling.
This challenge probably would have been more satisfying in B2 or W2, where you have access to move tutors - Seed Bomb and Synthesis would have lowered the level necessary to beat the game. Maybe not Synthesis as much, since Deerling is so frail, but getting physical grass stab? Would have made the late game so much better.
In general I think challenge runs are more interesting in B2/W2, just because of Move Tutors. A lot of single-mon runs that would have wound up just being grind-fests get so many new options when move tutors are accessible.
Deerling is proof even weak pokemon can be good with strong coverage. Jump Kick was the thing that made this run possible.
13:24 exactly that is part of why I don't enjoy nuzlockes
MDBAMA
Now that I finally have reliable internet, I've been going over your challenge videos since I can actually watch them in one sitting now. Thank you for everything you do to keep us entertained on our lowest days and so glad to hear you're doing better!
As for my one (ok, two if you want to get technical) question, if you could redo any of your challenges for any reason, would you? If so, which ones and why?
18:43
I think Chandelure has one of the highest Spatk in all of pokemon, THE highest if you exclude megas and legendaries iirc
The fact that the Lenora fight went so fast that MDB had to play the Watchog fight *twice* is funny to me.
One of these days, I want to see you try a regi run. Start with one one the regis. You’d think it would be easy, given its a legendary. However, they don’t learn new moves for a LONG time, and all they usually have at the beginning is explosion.
I’m surprised by how well Deerling did! It makes me happy because Grass is my favorite type, plus I just like it and Sawsbuck a lot. One thing I will say is that I’m surprised you didn’t get a Heart Scale to relearn Faint Attack when it came time to fight Shauntal. It could very well have OHKOed the more threatening ghosts.
I would like to suggest either pokemon Emerald with only Regirock or Platinum with only Regigigas. I think both would be very entertaining.
If you're feeling like you're getting sick, as soon as you feel like you might be, i get sick like how you described, with the throat thing. eat some fresh pineapple, like a real pineapple, not caned or in those little fruit cups with the juice, a whole one, cut it up and eat as much as you can, they're hella acidic, and will tear up your mouth pretty quickly, but just eat as much as you can handle, after learning about pineapple for colds, it's always moved mine ahead a few days in their usual progression, usually skipping over most of the sore throat bit for me, which is the worst part in my opinion -_- hate colds and i have a garbage immune system, so i eat a lot of pineapple lol hope you get well soon man, love the videos and can't wait for more fallout and elder scrolls stuff =)
Ah I've been waiting for this run I knew he had to do it sooner or later.
Id love to see a shuppret run sometime. Its a pokemon i feel gets overlooked, plus it gets some random coverage like thunderbolt to kill all of the wingulls and tentacools in the sea, ( love your vids btw keep it up, wish your hands well :)
This whole video was twists and turns and man it was entertaining! Keep up the great work, I am looking forward to your next video! And good luck with the oncoming cold, I hate that feeling >.
in place of shadow ball, at 17:55, deerling learns faint attack at level 16. Physical dark move.
this was really fun to watch Deerling can really be a bedst at times
Challenge: Beat Dragon Ball team training with only one Bear Thief
I didn't play gen 5 or later for so long, but honestly I love some of the gen 5 pokemon so much, I'd been missing out. Deerling is a great one, I love how cute but actually strangely strong it is
16:11 reminds me of Dogmeat CAN wear armor 😂
Chandelure's base special attack is 145 so yeah, Bambi was guaranteed to be toasted by base 120 power Fire Blast.
I dunno what's up with Game Freak giving random pokemon an extra normal typing like Pyroar and that olive thing in Scarlet/Violet and it kinda annoys me that they gain an extra fighting weakness, but I guess in this case it was a good thing.
Return was the right choice for the normal stab move. Feint attack probably be great for the elite 4.
He should have named it "Undeertale"
Y'know, because goat mom, and gurs have horns kinda like deers. I think I'm the only one who thinks this makes sense
I like deerling/sawsbuck! Hoping it does well but early game is probably gonna be pretty rough. I did a monotype normal run and had a great time, Sawsbuck and Cinccino were my powerhouse sweepers.
Actually I'd like to recommend a minccino only run then now that I think about it, it's move pool is passable and it's stars are pretty bad, but the Technician and Skill link abilities have some fun uses that could make the run interesting. Skill link is definitely better on the evolved from though, since it learns rock blast and bullet seed
