I'll give you an example, my kid (age 10) plays in a forward position. He wears a white helmet always as his hero Cian Lynch for Limerick does in the above game. That way his team mates always know where he is and more importantly who it is. If they were uniform, that element would be gone. Even in juvenile games we as spectators can pick out the players by the helmet color. Some will choose one that mimics that of a favorite player or county colors etc.

Can an irish fan explain to me why they all are wearing different colour helmets instead of coordinating as a team?
You dont have to wear the same helmet colour as a team you are allowed choose your own colour
Not an official reason, but it allows other players to pick out other players, given the frantic pace it makes sense
I'll give you an example, my kid (age 10) plays in a forward position. He wears a white helmet always as his hero Cian Lynch for Limerick does in the above game. That way his team mates always know where he is and more importantly who it is. If they were uniform, that element would be gone. Even in juvenile games we as spectators can pick out the players by the helmet color. Some will choose one that mimics that of a favorite player or county colors etc.

Raymond. Limerick have won All Irelands in seven different decades, three different Centuries and two different Millenia.
When Cork played Kilkenny in three Classic Finals in 1931 there was less than 30,000 at each of those. When LK played KK in the '35 Final, in the midst of The Economic War, a crowd of over 50,000 attended. The first super star Hurling Team was Mackey's Limerick. No team did more to popularise the game. All this with the sixth Hurling Population in the country and about one fifth that of their neighbours in Cork.
