i lived for a short while in the french speaking area of Switzerland and loved it, trains and tickets were so easy to book and literally always on time. Journeys had stunning scenery, oh my feeling a little homesick there
Amazing! I'm sorry to say there's lots more of Switzerland coming up in the next few months! 😂🇨🇭
For your information: 1class in Switzerland is not really about the comfort you get. Many people use trains to work on theyr way to the office. In 1 Class its more silent, bigger Tables sometimes even a big conference table. (Can be seen at IC2000 cars after revision in the Car behind the loco in the upper deck)
I know, but they should include complimentary drinks and snacks due to the prices they charge imo lol 🤣
@@NonstopEurotrip No way haha. The higher cost of ticket just barely makes up for the extra space these big seats use up. there's no way that drinks / snacks are included, because no-one would use them. would be a huge waste of money, that the tax payer would need to pay. they better keep investing in keeping the infrastructure as good as it is now, and not making it worse and reducing infrastructure constantly ( because that's the course they set at the moment...)
@@NonstopEurotrip wann machen sie denn Metronom und koleje mazowieckie.
I loved riding the trains in all of Europe and very much in Switzerland. I really enjoy your reporting and I miss my times on the rail can't beat the scenery.
Thank you Mike 😀
Great video! Love the trains in Switzerland! Can’t wait to see your upcoming trips exploring Switzerland. Thank you!
Thank you Linda 😊 I'm excited to share the rest of my swiss travels! 🙏🏻
Beautiful. I find Switzerland such a fascinating place and the transport is great. I’ve only done Zurich so far but hope to see more soon.
Oh absolutely! I've got loads more to come 😎
Awesome train ride. Did this journey (at least in part, often to pick up the Golden Pass or down to Martigny) several times a year 2007-2015. As a plane nerd going on holiday as a kid I'd normally feel a sense of disappointment once we'd got off the flight but knowing I had this scenic trip to come from Geneva Airport actually became a highlight.
What could possibly be better about a flight 😂🛫
@@NonstopEurotrip Hahaha I genuinely don't remember being as excited as a kid when we ended up getting a BA 767 with the RB211s one year.
Those Swiss trains are beautiful. Switzerland is a wonderful country to visit. Especially when it snows.
Unfortunately no snow on this trip for me 😞
@@NonstopEurotrip Sorry to hear that.
I must admit, Switzerland is filled with picturesque sceneries and lots of huge mountains, and I think SBB should provide WiFi since nowadays it's the most common thing in many trains but overall its a comfy train with necessary facilities and looking forward to watch more scenic trip reports from Switzerland. Great video as always, mate!!
Yeah, they are old coaches though. Switzerland is an excellent county to travel by train through, but just some damn expensive 😂🇨🇭
@@NonstopEurotrip indeed, 50 quid for almost 2 hours journey isn't pocket friendly for travellers.
I've paid that for first class travel of a similar duration in the UK. Swiss residents usually buy annual passes that give them access to most public transport, or half-fare passes. When I last looked a Swiss resident annual pass was around SF5,000 (about £3,000) for all access travel. Compare that with the UK where an annual Brighton-London season ticket is over £4,000 and can only be used on that route (and wages/salaries in Switzerland are substantially higher than the UK). Always best for tourists to buy passes though.
Working in the Railway business with customers like railway operators (SBB, SNCF, ÖBB, DB,...) and rolling stock OEM's (Stadler, Alstom/BT, Siemens, HitachiRail,...), I can assure you that SBB has refurbishment projects ongoing which include WiFi-integration. 😊 So stay tuned and keep coming back to 🇨🇭! 😁
@@FunkyTaeng oh, I see, good to hear that.
Great video of my favourite railway system, thanks. Look forward to seeing your next videos of Swiss rail travel.
Thanks! I'm excited for everyone to see them too 😎
Wow that was indeed scenic! And that Bernina Express teaser, stunning!
Thanks Juan 😀
Beautiful scenery!! I would not want to block out the view with the window blind.
Thank you Max for sharing😀😀♥️♥️
Thanks Scott! Would have been nice if the sun was out properly 🙂
@@NonstopEurotrip agreed but Switzerland is beautiful in all weather😀♥️
One thing you missed was an example of the swissconnect system (4:23). This involves a cycle courier dropping off a package to the front/end car of a train, and another cycle courrier picking from the platform in another city. It is the fastest way to get an urgent package from door to door across Switzerland.
I never knew that!
Sure gorgeous ride and super scenery. Memories of a "Treyn Holidays" visit some 9 years ago, going through to Italy. Great Vlog. Loving them.
Thanks Norman! I love this part of Europe ❤️
Absolutely looking forward to more from Switzerland 😊
Yay! I've got LOADS to come ☺️
As always, a great video. It's not for no reason Switzerland is known as the capital of rail!
Thanks Benny-boy! 🙏🏻
... Car-free Ski Resort... Awesome...!! Beautiful Train, fantastic destination...
Absolutely yes 👍🏻😎
The Bernina Express is incredibly ... thanks for the ride.
Can't wait for that video 🤠
Wow! This brings back some awesome memories.
Glad you enjoyed it 😄
Awesome trip... loved it thoroughly. Thanks.
Thanks my friend 👌
i definitely love your videos & listening to all the train sounds is so so so so relaxing
Glad you enjoyed it ☺️
I rided the Bernina Express two years ago, from Tirano to Chur. It was great experience. I waiting your video that runs in the opposite direction. Thanks from Buenos Aires.🇨🇭🇦🇷
Won't be too long 😀
Never call an ICN a Pendolino, that's rude and offensive😂😂😂!
In fact, in Switzerland the word 'Pendolino' is still linked with the dreadful Cisalpino service and their notoriously unreliable ETR470 EMU's, that was discontinued more than a decade ago for god's sake. Despite the time gone since, the term Pendolino is still sort of a swear word, while the ICN is regarded as the climax of swiss railway engineering😉
Nice thumbnail for the video though, as in the background (left low corner) you can notice my hometown. Or a part of it at least. That picture has been shot on the jura foot line between the towns of Olten and Solothurn.
Thank you 🙏🏻
@@NonstopEurotrip the real Pendolinos in Switzerland are the class ETR 610 of Italian railways and class RABe 503 "Astoro" of SBB, they are used on Italy - Switzerland (- Frankfurt) routes and between Zürich and München.
The ICN has Pendolino bogies from Fiat/Alstom, but this is the only thing they have in common. It was built by AdTranz/Bombardier. If you try them both, you will see how much roomier and more comfortable ICN is in comparison with Pendolino.
@@markoobid2005 I have done both- videos will follow 😎 thanks for the info!
ICN the climax of swiss railway engineering? Have we been on the same train?? 😂
The climax has to be the IC2000, with maybe the Giruno finally getting close to the same level of quality
@@LB767 I love the Giruno 😍
I took the MGB from Zermatt to Brig... The transfer was arse. You had to walk over from the street down the length of the train (more like a tram at this point), some more, then cross the street and everything. With luggage it is a royal pain in the rear.
This wasn't an issue at Visp but our train going to Milan didn't stop at Visp...
Great video !!
Thanks 👍🏻
Absolutely stunning! The corruption case involving Blatter and Platini is ongoing and both have, finally, been indicted
Thank you Em 😊
Swiss railways. Where it's not about getting somewhere as quickly as possible, but getting there as efficiently as possible. At lot more countries could learn from that model, especially the UK.
Very very true Colin!
What I appreciate most here in Switzerland (especially since I lived 18Months in Norway) is the Fact that you buy one Ticket from the Start to the Destination of your Journey, regardless of from where to where and regardless of how many times you have to change Means of Transports/Transportation Companies along the Route.
In Norway I could only Buy the Ticket to where the Company goes and then had to Buy a Ticket by the Company that drives the next Part of the Journey and so on. Routes that are served by multiple Companies mean that you have to have the Ticket from the Company serving your tour... That was one of the very few Things I was disappointed in, since Norway is one of the most modern Countries: it's lack of a centralized Ticket System, which was very frustrating for me as a swiss Guy: Me: "I have a two-way-Ticket" Driver: "Yes, that's from Kolumbus, they drive again tomorrow. We are Norway Bussekspress that's not valid here...." Me: "It's the exact same Route!" Driver: "But we are another Company" Me: "...........WTF?.........."
SBB = Punctual ✅ Efficient ✅ Clean ✅ Comes with fantastic scenery ✅ … what more could you possibly want? 😉
Catering 😂🍻
Great video; love watching your content
Thank you Daniel 😊
One more great vídeo. Thank's
Thank you Julio 😊
Nice video! I like trains in Switzerland. The 1st class coach you took is similar to 1st class coaches on SBB EuroCity trains. I hope I will visit Switzerland in the next year, there are many interesting trains I'd like to try :-)
Thanks mate! I've got so many Swiss videos to come 😎
Ill try to explain you in an easy way, why they look similar: There are two types of coaches, that look very similar and that are used very similar. The 1st Class coach he was sitting in, is a Type EW IV (stands for EinheitsWagen 4), they were built in the 80's and are still in use today in InterRegios and InterCitys. They exist as 1st and 2nd class coaches. The other Type is the one he goes into at 11:19. That is a BPM 61 from the early 90's. They also exist as 1st Class coaches with the name APM 61. These have a permission to operate in Germany, which the EW IV's dont have. So the APM / BPM 61's are used in EuroCitys, but also in InterRegios and InterCitys. A normal passenger will have a hard time to see the difference between an APM 61 and a EW IV 1st class coach and thats exactly what im seeing here ;) greetings from switzerland.
@@FMALeDude Thanks for your informations. It is very interesting. I 'm a big fan of classic coaches (especially 1st class ones) :-)
@@PeteBrandy youre welcome. I love them too, there is no train or Coach of the SBB, which is as comfortable as these ones. I had the luck that I got to work on them as a mechanic and even did my final exams for the mechanic apprenticeship on these coaches.
For me as a swiss Guy it's funny that you notice the Wheelchair Lift (at 3:46)
Since in Switzerland by Law everything public has to be Wheelchair-accessible, so Things like these many decades old manually operated Wheelchair Lifts (each staffed Station has at least one) will somday gradually be retired...
Switzerland is so beautiful it makes no sense
Lots of mountains 😂
Ah reminded me of my time in Lausanne. I used to live in Fauconnieresin, and always used to travel by train. Though we lived there for quite a while, we never had a car, cause we never felt the need of one. Just one of the many amazing things about Switzerland. Just wish I was back there once again.
Mahn I sure do hope I live there, just because of those wonderful trains 🥲
Loved the older double deckers, kinda dislike the newer ones, especially the control cars 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
A lovely place to live! 😊
Glad you enjoyed your train journey 🚄💺👍🏻
Thanks Tony! 🙏🏻
Awesome 👍👍👍 bro
Thank you 🙏🏻
Very reminiscent of German railway stations, ps I like the double decker trains
Absolutely John 😊
Wonderful video like and subscribed from Czech Republic 🙂👍👍👍
Thank you 🙏🏻😌
@@NonstopEurotrip you're welcome 🙂
Excellent
Glad you enjoyed it!
I see you ended up in the brig. What did you do wrong?
Paid that much for a train ticket 😅
I think the blinds are in case the sun is at the sort of angle to dazzle you - not a problem on the day you travelled, of course, but it can happen.
Absolutely yes Annabel 😊
New subscriber says great video!
Thank you Tom! 😎
Hey! Do you travel all over Europe for work or for fun and blogging?)
A bit of both 😌👍🏻
Lausanne railway station is being totally rebuilt, the project is amazing :)
Ooh excellent 😎
I absolutely hate the Twindexx, not only for the unexpected shaking but also for its absolutely horrendous staircase and overall discomfort. It really feels like an airplane where in the EW IV where you were in it's much more roomy. And the old IC2000 shows how a bilevel long distance train can be very comfortable. Even the Stadler Kiss trains that were made for commuting local services aren't remotely as bad as this Bombardier. At least once seated it's ok. I also don't like the Giruno for it's constant up and down and diagonal pathing inside the train. It's all jam packed these days where people get on with many things, trains should be as roomy as the EW IV we see here!
I agree with you about the twindexx 😂😂😂
3:48 they just have one problem: You have to call about 1 Hour earlier for someone to come and do this job for you - and when you want to use them on a small station you have to call 2 hours earlier. If you`re unlucky the station is that small that there isn`t even one
That's not too good!!!
Very nice video! ........ Like .......
Thank you 😌
@@NonstopEurotrip OK!
😉👍
😎🙏🏻
Liebe Grüße an unsere schweizerische Nachbarn aus Österreich:)
I don't think that arrangement of local trains (white) and long-distance trains (red) is by accident. I believe that in some Swiss rail hubs (1) local trains are all scheduled to terminate just before (2) a number of long-distance trains call in at a key point on the clockface and then finally (3) local trains begin their journey to their local destinations.
Interesting! 😊
Usually we call it le léman not lake geneva :)
I know but it's easier to explain 😅
It's not called the lake of Geneva my friend. It's the Leman lake.
Same place 😏

"Adequete", is that Swiss French for adequate? Proper padded seats. Great view but no catering? Not even a trolley. I'd expect a complimentary coffee at least for €65... Great scenery - must be stunning on a sunny day. Nice trip report, buddy.
Oui absolutement Mark 😎 Yeah it's pricey, I definitely got value for money from my interrail 😅 would have been nice for a free coffee, I agree ☺️
It's a basically a regional train ...
Hong Kong has Re465 locomotive, looks similar to Re460
Interesting!!!
@@NonstopEurotrip Normally 2 locomotives are operate together at each end of the train, like TGV. The train called KTT, with the made in Japan double deck carriages, provide service between Hong Kong and mainland China since 1998.
It’s called “lac leman”
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Geneva
Which manufacturer of the coach?
Idk sorry, try Google
I'm paying 230CHF (per month) for the AG, and its for real worth since tickets could cost me 30CHF per day to go to work...
Pretty good value!
@@NonstopEurotrip yeah they give a reduction of 15CHF per months after 1 year of subscribtion, in normal time its 245CHF
I think "extortionate" is the wrong description of the fares. Is it so different from a 1st class single out of Euston for a comparable distance? Swiss people take advantage of the half-price passes and the "GA", an annual season ticket, to get better fares as regular travellers. Also, pricing is consistent for the distance travelled, any day, any time.
Some viewers might have been surprised to see passengers with their feet on the seat opposite. This is acceptable only if you take off your shoes first!
Fair comment, but you would be silly not to travel with any type of pass, which is the point I was trying to make 👍🏻
7:50 when the sun is too bright?
🤣🤣🤣
The SBB Re460 Is only the name of the locomotive. You are reviewing standard Intercity coaches
As mentioned in the video...
Your the only one on the train? looks empty ok
It was a quiet day 😂
Video's score: 8.1
Thanks!
riding trains in Switzerland is way too expensive! I avoid it whenever I can..
Yes, if you buy individual tickets...

Not the best video on your channel.
We don't see a lot of things in your video, it's a shame. You could easily have done better. It's also a pity that you traveled in the middle of October, w hen the bad days come, and not earlier in the year. I don't like that background music either that you put at the end of your video and that you use very often in your videos, well all the time now.😔
Better than a UK regional train 😏And I didn't travel in October... 😛
