WoW. Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I have bought a new Boya BM-1 mic and tried recording the sound separately in a simple app in my mobile and then synchronized them in Davinci Resolve 15. That turned out pretty good, but I think I will need a recorder like the Olympus VF-10, because that's more pocketable and can be clipped to the shirt like you did. Thank you again. I will surely share my 1st vlog with you...when I have made it...🙂
I am not into blogging but it was interesting to see your setup. Now if I am able to make a plug, unless I missed it I would like to see your final thoughts on the TG5. Mine is still my go to camera for bad weather.
wow thank you so much for your excellent explanation. Love your content. I was also wondering about the new DIY wireless audio setup you mentioned in the video
Hi Rob I bought the Microphone you recommended here, but how do use it with the mark2 camera, I am puzzled!! Do you record a seperate audio with the pen and edit with the movie later? Thanks
Rob When using the pen voice recorder you were also using a lavender mic. Was the Lav mic plugged into your pen recorder? Also, why did you not plug a lavender mic into your HN 1?
The lav mic was plugged into a wireless mic system into my EM1.2 to make this video. I prefer using the pen recorder over the HN1. I don't think you can plug a mic into the pen, it's a headphone jack. However, you could plug a lav into the HN1 if you prefer that over using the pen.
Hi Rob, I'm a guitar teacher and I'm beginning to use The EM10 mk II for online guitar tutorials. Could you give me some tips about basic settings. For instance could I "bypass" the SD card and record directly to the computer. Also, what app could I record into? and what simple editing software (they will be simple edits). At the moment I'm just recording into Zoom and editing the mp4 file that Zoom records. Am I missing a few tricks .. I plan to do a lot of guitar tutorials .. Many thanks again, Jerome
Hi. I did a video that may help you. It's about streaming but the obs software that I use can just as easily record to your computer. You might want to consider 2 mics - one for your voice and the other for your guitar. Easy to do. After watching, please don't hesitate to ask me anything. -Rob ua-cam.com/video/RuSEw396JZI/v-deo.html
I'm not a vlogger but I am interested in shooting video. It would be nice if you could do a series on video with the E-M10. I don't understand frame rate (p?), shutter speed, profiles, post-processing. It's all a mystery to me. Thanks!
I recently purchased the OM-D 10 Mk2 hoping that I could use it for vlogging. I was surprised that the manual seems to talk only about an ability to record short video clips & stitching them together. As a beginner can you tell me if it can record continuous & longer vlogging videos.
Hi Rob, this is a completely unrelated question to this video (LOL). Are tripod ball heads interchangeable? I have an Oben tripod AC-1321 with a quick release ball head BA-106, I want to replace it with an Arca type ball head because I got an “L” bracket for the camera so that I can quickly go from horizontal to vertical. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Should be no problem to swap ball heads but it might be easier and cheaper to get an arca swiss clamp like this amzn.to/2YUecSt Just make sure the knob will have clearance once mounted onto your BA-106 plate.
Hi Rob, how simple is it to sync the audio from the Olympus VP10 to the video from the OMD EM10 ii? What software is involved, can it be done on an Android Tablet?
It's relatively easy. I use Davinci Resolve on a PC. I've never tried on a Tablet. I use this method ua-cam.com/video/XakNwAqbTbs/v-deo.html There is also an automated way but I found it not as reliable. ua-cam.com/video/vf_o9-ecpHA/v-deo.html
Here's a question, in your opinion what is the better Olympus Camera for Vlogging, the OMD EM10 Mkii with set up similar to in this video or the EPL8 with a Rode Mic connected? Obviously this is the more budget end of Vlogging I'm looking at.
Hi Rob, what lens were you using to get the blurry background please and would that work in a small studio set up? If not what would be the best lens to get a blurry background in a studio 5.3 metres v 3 metres. Thanks
17 and 25 is too tight. The 15mm and 9mm body cap lenses are good. I did a comparison near the end of the video between various lenses: ua-cam.com/video/yKhOWbkWuGg/v-deo.html

Hi. The EPL8 is better for vlogging with the flip down screen. Only difference really are the limited frame rates and iso only goes to 3200 in video. But I've used it for a lot of my vlogging. Check out my video at the 7 minute mark to see exactly how I setup: ua-cam.com/video/KCEa_v5VFwE/v-deo.html
@@RobTrek Thank you! I looked up the prices for the M5 II and the M5 III, the difference is only $100. It doesn't make sense to buy the ii for this very low price difference I think. Hi! Im using the OM-D E-M10 III, with the external mic, when you turn it on does it sync to the camera automatically? Or you combine it with the video when you edit your video? Im new using the camera
Hi. I sync the audio in post processing. I use Davinci Resolve Free edition. It's pretty easy once you get in the habit of turning the external mic on and off with each recording of video.
Hi Rob, I am thinking about getting this camera instead of a camcorder for recording training in classroom. Would this camera have overheating issue after recording over an extended time? and how long does the battery last? can you please advise! Thank you so much!
I'd steer you towards the Panasonic G85 instead. It has a mic jack, unlimited record time, and external battery grip option. That way you can attach a wireless mic and record 2+ hour lectures without stopping. I'd also recommend the 12-35mm f/2.8 lens with it. The em10ii is a pain to work with for long lectures (I've done it). You have to watch the 29min record limit and the battery lasts 1 hour, but not more than 1.5 hours.
I wish I could give you a good answer. I did a quick search and didn't find anything readily suitable for you. I can only say I prefer the Manfrotto Pro series and Sirui brands. The video tripods are generally taller and may work better for you.
I have come up with an awkward but viable solution. I'll have to do a video about it. It's similar to this solution I did here: ua-cam.com/video/hr4QW_Ey6bU/v-deo.html
I bought one but never use it. Found it bulky in my pocket and difficult to switch on and off everytime I have to take it out of my pocket. The small recorder I can leave in my collar and use my thumb to switch on and off.
An external audio recorder is a great thing, but synchronizing the audio is such a pain 🙈 well, maybe I just don't know how to do it. It takes me ages in the Davinci Resolve app. Terribly annoying.
I make sure to use a camera that has a mic jack now. But when I have to sync manually, I found 3 snaps of my finger then verbally saying the time into the mic helps. So 3 snaps then verbally 3:54 & 25 seconds.
@@RobTrek I thought about clapping or something, just don't always have the option - I had to film some musicians playing and had to be quiet 🙊 So the only option for me was to be super careful synchronizing it all later. Thank you for the videos any way, always great information!
