    You rock, lady! You won my subscription. I have been looking everywhere for a cheap, simple treadmill desk and for some reason "silicone hotpads" never crossed my mind. I'll have to make a few adjustments - my treadmill has no cupholder! - but this is a life saver. No way was I going to spend $80+ for a hunk of plastic!

    2023 - still the most practical treadmill desk I have found. Did exactly what's on this video (board and silicon pot holders). Super stable even with walking briskly (but I have this while walking quite slowly while working, which doesn't faze the stability one bit).

Now I can at least try this setup without having to spend lots of $$ to see if it is something that works for me; and if it turns out I need more space, hey at least I was able to try it first to know for sure.

    Awesome video Margaret. I've been using a music stand (not with a treadmill - I don't own one) as a standing desk for ages - back problems led to me not been able to sit for more than a few minutes at a time and I usually walk on the spot, do tippy toe stretches and knee bends intermittedly. I also do my crocheting and other crafts on there too. One is not really big enough, but we have several - so I didn't need to go and buy anything. win-win :)

    Thank you for this, i have just brought a second hand treadmill online and while I think I will set up my diy desk a little differently, as I want to have a larger monitor or multiple monitors (I work in IT and usually like to have at least two screens on the go otherwise it limits my efficiency), this has given me some great starting ideas. For me I am going to try using the wooden area you have as a place to put a wireless keyboard and mouse and then probably put my laptop on a shelf behind the treadmill and set up the monitors behind it as well, so I have the screens at eye height but the keyboard at the right height for my arms.
    I do think you would need a laptop stand which goes a lot higher than the amazon one you mentioned, if you wanted to have a laptop on a standard sitting height desk at an appropriate height for standing, especially if you are taller. Maybe one of those ones which have the zigzag arms on them and raise things up to a foot or so...
    Some very simple but good ideas here. Thanks.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  4 місяці тому

      That sounds like a great solution for adding those monitors. As you work with it, you'll get a better idea of what you need and how to fix it. It's 2024 now and there are even more options out there!

      Good news! You can get a much better effect for free! At a desk or kitchen table, simply "march" your feet. Same muscles, no cost. In addition, you can add variety to your movements which is better for your legs: extend horizontally from the knee, put if back down and switch. Change the way you're sitting for even more variation: edge of chair vs leaning against back; elevate your seat with cushion or folded blankets, etc. Stand and make small movements to the back with each leg... or maybe side movements, or maybe squats!

    I have ADHD. My husband got me a standing desk converter for Christmas with a stress relief pad to stand on and my productivity has gone through the roof at work. But at home, my set up is still sitting. I’m going to give this a shot! (Might skip the coffee, it made me nervous!!! Lol) thanks for the suggestion!!!

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  6 років тому

      Yep! Perfect solution! I'm surprised coffee makes you nervous! Natural forms of caffeine are often used in place of prescriptions. (Most prescriptions are stimulants and coffee is just a milder form.) My 16 YO was diagnosed with "severe to significant" ADHD when he was 6 and natural caffeine saved us over the summers and on vacations when we opted for no medicine! Now that he's older, the hyperactivity part isn't as bad but he still uses tea and coffee when he needs to focus without medicine. However it does NOT work when mixed with a bunch of chemicals like soft drinks. Interesting, huh?

    Love this Margaret! Do you have any suggestions if my Nordic Trac's handles are slightly tilted downward? They are not flat.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  3 роки тому

      Hmmm... that's a good question. Of course, that would depend upon the degree of slant and the width of your shelf in relation to your handles but it seems like you need some sort of wedge (like a door stop) and a strong rubber band to affix it (damage free) to your handle. If put on with the tall end of the wedge toward the shelf, it would act as a shelf brace so it wouldn't slide down the handle. But if put with the slim end facing the shelf, it may help level the shelf. It's hard to say without being able to see your setup!

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  2 роки тому

      Oh, gosh... it's hard to come up with a creative solution without seeing the specific challenge. If you have enough room above and below the buttons, maybe you could use 2 silicon potholders on each side but roll each like a hot dog, secure with a rubber band and place horizontally across the handle avoiding the buttons. Hard to explain in words!

    I could've saved 1K if I went with the traditional treadmill and purchased a plank from the hardware store, but....I wanted what I wanted. Also, the treadmill desk that I purchased does not have an incline feature. I figured that the lack of incline didn't matter a hill of beans until my knee started giving me trouble. Apparently, walking on a level treadmill is like walking downhill. Walking downhill is something to be avoided with the bad knee as such. So....live and learn. If, by chance, something happens to this treadmill, then, Bye-bye, high-priced desk treadmill, and hello to the traditional. Yup, live and learn.

      Or maybe sell it while it's still in good condition! There's no need to put extra wear and tear on that poor knee especially since you know it causes you problems. Alternatively, could you stack a few boards under the front of it to give it a slight incline?

      @@sheepishlysharing I'm going to keep it, and just had a friend put 2 boards underneath. It's going to be a great challenge, as I go one mile, seven days a week, but if it helps my knee; then it's a go! Be well.

      Oh goodness... things I wish I hadn't said! I never heard the negative connotation to that expression back in 2018 when I made this video!

    Love that idea!! I am going to make my own.
    (Side note: I think you might be thinking of "tinker" or "tinkerer". Tweaker is the common term given to people who use meth. You do tweak things, but I fear the comment may be misconstrued)

    it sounds like a good concept on paper but I think it really defeats the purpose of using treadmill for what it is designed for, but hey, you do you

      It’s probably a good practice to actually watch a video before commenting. The whole purpose is to easily convert it for N.E.A.T. when you want and remove the desk for regular “intended” usage in seconds.
