Sierra Leone for some reason also surprised me. Would have thought it was more Protestant
when Arabs were doing trade and converting Africans, they could not travel between Mombasa and Kenyan hinterland due to rough terrain. so Muslims never ventured inside Kenya outside the coastal region. only western missionaries managed to do so hence only the Kenyan coast is Muslims. inland, everyone is Christian. In Tanzania, the terrain was more hospitable so Arabs managed to convert many people there. the moved into Malawi and eastern drc and some parts of Uganda. that is why those three countries have a higher Muslim percentage compared to Kenya
