One of my biggest regrets in life was selling my AWD Safari. It was such a great vehicle. I still want to buy another astro van, especially knowing you can V8 swap them
I'm about to put in a 5.3 LS (LC9 I think?) in mine. I was just driving over the mountain pass in Washington State (Snoqualmie Pass) and my engine started knocking. I limped it to an auto parts store, then realized there was nothing I could do. Had it towed home and missed my Red Hot Chili Peppers concert. 😢 Anyways, mine is all wheel drive I lifted it 3 1/2 inches put some 30-in all-terrains on it. Was planning to drive it to my condo in Cabo San Lucas in the fall and leave it there for when I'm down there. I need power and I need reliability! Any help you can offer would be great. I would love to pick your brain if that's possible?
@cheekkeith74 Sucks! I'm about to put a 5.3 LC9 in mine. My 4.3 started knocking as I was going over Snoqualmie Pass in Washington State and I missed my Red Hot Chili Peppers concert. 😢 Had it towed home now I'm sitting here on the internet researching V8 swaps. 😂
I did a tranfer case swap on my AWD and went true 4x4. Makes a V8 swap a little more challenging. So it'll probably just get a spiced up rebuild w/carb. But if I come across a nice 2wd.... ??? Especially one of the shorty's. 😃
This is the coolest thing ive seen this year

Did the stock A/C compressor fit? can see the bracket is installed but no compressor...
I'm also in Ontarrible! Love the build. I've been thinking about getting one and doing a 5.3 or 6.0
Awesome, there's lots of these vans still to be had!

I want one!
Thats exactly what I’m doing to my 96 astro thats bagged and 4 linked
Sounds beautiful, what muffler you got on that thing got me thinking about ditching the long tubes
That was awesome
Gm should have dropped an engine in it like that from the beginning.
Totally, if the trucks can get it why can't this!
Yeah that 4.3 doesn't get any better mileage and putters up hills. It needed a V8 option.
I believe it was originally engineered for a V8, but ended up with the 4.3. I'm sure fed regs had a play in that.

Is the v8 possible for an awd model?
I want this!
Mine will bark 2nd gear. Ls1 2001 Astro
Nice van... any updates?
What muffler did you use. It sounds great!! And are those speed engineering headers?
What shocks are you running on the van? Sick swap
All OEM replacements my friend
Sounds awesome and looks like it is significantly quicker than the 4.3 stock engine.
Is yours an all wheel drive or rear wheel drive?
Thank you! This is a RWD "SLT" model Safari
It’s time to tune that transmission. It’s on its way out. Poor 4l60
What trans did you use
transmission was from a 2003 Silverado 1500
@@eccentricautos 2wd 4L60e
I want it
Can you do mine
Now turbo it
That not how my safari runs
