I've literally never wanted a new bike more! I love the new Slash but need an ebike due to dodgy knees (amongst other things! LOL) so seeing that bike with a motor is just fantastic!
My Kenevo SL rips! Put an EXT shock and Formula Selva Coil fork and rides amazing .Motor is a little whiny sounding though. The TQ looks like a winner.
Sizing is always so tough for us 5’10 folk… for that reason, I’ve loved how trek made the M/L. Really unfortunate it isn’t available in the Slash+. Do yall think the mullet setup along, chain stay length, and lightweight motor vibes means if you’re in between sizes you could go with the large and still maintain the nimbleness on slower, techier descents? I have a large timp peak now and it feels like a tank to maneuver on some tighter gnarlier tech trails here in the PNW. I think I’d like the slash+ more but again sizing is so hard to determine
Yeah it seems in the current pendulum swing of geo the 5’10-5’11 rider seem to fall in the middle of many offered sizes. Interesting you feel that in the Timp. Do you feel that from the weight or the rear end length? This bike is roughly 5lbs lighter which will help but also has a high pivot design, which means static chainstay lengths will grow at sag, making them even longer through travel before arcing upward. There’s a lot of little nuances to cover, and without a more extended conversation to really learn where you’re feeling your current issues, this bike could help, or not… sorry for muddying the waters even more haha. Hopefully after we spend more time on the bike for the long term review we’ll have more definitive thoughts.
@@TheLoamWolf It could be the weight of it. I just built up a large deviate highlander 150 thanks to some channel sponsors and that has been feeling incredible. The timp peak is most fun on faster chunkier trails where I can just plow through, but I found it lacks the finesse my large highlander provides. I've thought about changing the TP to the mullet but increasing the reach beyond 480 feels like I'd become too much of a passenger and not feel comfortable with my weight balanced or over the front wheel. Medium Slash+ might be in my future, but I also agree I think Trek missed out on a frame only option. Most of these parts I'm going to switch out which feels pretty bad. Float and rhythm on 8k build is really disappointing
The updated upper idler has been released for a few weeks and is considered warranty. If you have a slash go to a trek store and get your replacement idler.
And you don't have to take apart the YT's suspension to grease all the pivots like the Trek bikes that they don't grease before they leavr the factory.
Love seeing more competition in the 170mm SL category, but this Trek is $4k more than an equivalent Transition Relay. Makes me happy I bought a Relay when I did, best bike I’ve ever owned.
Any time Aspekt on when a longer review or comparison of the motors is coming? The Slash + does really seem very interesting if the TQ can Handle long climbs.
It's in our SL Roundup this year, which is on the editing table now. Until then, the TQ HPR50 handles the climbs just fine, it will assist you all the way. You just work much harder, at times what feels like pedalling into a wall, then some other drive systems out there. We never noticed any heat fatigue during our week of back and forth testing, and the 580 battery provides great range. If you ride with friends on any other system but the Specialized SL motors, you will be way off the back due to the lack of power and torque.
@@TheLoamWolf thanks for the info! Sorry that I missed the SL line up in you video list! Will check it out! It’s a hard choice currently. You haven't missed it, it should release in November sometime. The SRAM motor definitely isnt our favorite, but the ekano cf is a solid ripper for sure. There's so many good bikes out right now, with weights continuously dropping and drive systems keep getting better. If you arent finding yourself in big group ebike rides, we would be hard pressed to not recommend the Slash+ (if you can stomach the spec/dollar ratio). We are still in the infancy of this "SL" category which is rapidly evolving and out dating bikes, especially with the launch of the avinox system. It's only a matter of time before we start seeing other brands spec that motor.
Nice bike, seems fun to ride for sure Now we have choice between: Mondraker Dune, Transition Relay and this one I'd like to get an SL but with dji motor and weight of the whole system coming in the next years idk I hope you will get the Dune for testing!
Thanks, looking forward to hear and see more from yourselves as I've got my eye on this bike, aside from all the sales-word bullshit bingo you get from most bike reviewers you guys seem to give the honest thoughts and feedback good or bad. I think it might be just what I'm after to replace a full power gen 3 Levo, although some of the newer DJI and ZF offerings are interesting.
Thank you that means a lot. We always strive to be as honest and helpful as possible. We know these things aren’t cheap and wouldn’t feel right not giving people the best info we can possibly provide.
This is an enduro god basically. Impressive bike. I have 2022 Slash 9.8 xt and rail 2024 9.8 gx, This slash is like combo of both with some compromises. I can imagine what this bike feels like. Its probably an animal in enduro riding, but i think the power output could be a bit higher. 50 NM is good, but i think it would suck to change from my 85 NM on rail to 50 NM. I already felt this when i changed back to my Slash after a while on rail. The lack of power really affected me. I think on big power nervious system kinda visually and neurologically adapts to the power of the bike. So when you go back, your perception is so messed up the non power bike feels terrible. My slash felt like the breaks were on and pedaling seemed like a nightmare. I pretty much now use slash only for downhill. Slash is about 10kg less and the weight felt much lighter than usual though. I think this bike is great, but for me i probably will wait until we get light ebikes with 85 NM power and atleast 600w. If this bike had same weight but 85 nm and 600-700W. I wont hesistate for a moment.
Check out the cannondale moterra sl!! 85 NM 44lbs, I'm seriously considering it. Agreed , if this bike had more power And bigger battery will be a no brainer. Having the same perception issues when y use my Levo SL vs when I borrow my wife's rail. Huge difference

The problem is that the motor is so powerful that your perception overtime gets used to it and when you do something else like Slash it feels like breaks are on. Not because it is, but your brain expects same speed and acceleration that you get from Rail with low effort. There is place for both though. Slash dominates on downhill ofc. Rail is essentially Slash with big powerhouse motor, with a bit less slack of the frame. Rail is heavier, but the power of the motor does not allow you to notice it. You only notice it on jumps etc. Overall its just different types of riding, i personally think ebikes are more fun on everything except like straight up downhill and enduro. For everyday riding in woods, technical lines, casual riding on the mountains its Rail for me any day. If i go the bikepark or point down the bike from some high mountain i take slash. The balance and weight make its better and you dont need to pedal. The thing is with ebikes is the acceleration. You go from low speed to high very fast with minimal effort and it makes the riding feel more agressive.
