I've been listening to a variety of artist driven music (as opposed to mass produced synthesised rubbish) for over 30 years ... and I can say without ANY reservation whatsoever ... that this is the BEST hard rock band I have seen for balanced, individual technicality and group cohesive performance in decades ... and there's been a LOT come and go in the last couple of decades ... these girls remind me of Iron Maiden in their prime 1979-1986 ... except (dare I say it) these girls have so much more scope and variety in their music ... definitely not hair and makeup cuties ... definitely not mass produced garbage and if Kanami doesn't win some sort of Hall-of-fame award for her compositions later in life, there is no justice in this world!! ...
Miku (girl with Rickenbacker rhythm guitar in this vid) was the one who came up with the idea for the band and writes a lot of the lyrics - she intended to be the lead vocalist to start with but quickly discovered her vocal range was not what she envisioned for the band and decided to go looking for someone with greater range that she could share the duties with (How freaking adult is THAT move?? - Knowing your limitations and being ok with taking a back seat to the role you were going to play) ... It just shows how mature the whole unit is ... you can see in this vid she spends more time grabbing the microphone and doing backing vocals and the camera avoids her hands-on-guitar frames - that's because she was only just starting to learn the craft at the stage that this music vid was made (Kanami is her teacher). You should see her now though ... Kanami is getting to focus more and more on complex lead work because Miku is VERY proficient with her side of the equation now - and has selected a brand and style of guitar that she likes best (replacing the Rickenbacker that she first used because she thought it looked stylish and had a good brand name) ... she's the band spokesperson and the all rounder ... Rhythm, backing vocals, crowd entertainer while the others grab a breather during the set.
MISA is the Bass guitarist with mystique. She tends to look like she's rocking out to her own private party most-times ... though happy to interact with the crowd or other band members occasionally - likes walking around on stage barefoot and is referred to as the barefoot assassin, carries her own bottle of alcohol on stage and loves whiskey ... Akane, referred to as A-Chan or Gorilla (when the other band members are teasing her) is the eldest and really the one that the rest look up to as the leader ... was the second band member recruited by Miku after Kanami ... a VERY accomplished drummer, she had done some session work with Kanami in the past and suggested MISA to the other girls for Bass work. Jimmy Page (yep - didn't misspell that at ALL!!!) was so impressed with her work at a concert (referred to her as being like John Bonham reincarnated I think?!) that he asked to have a photo taken with her backstage after the gig ... Akane (bless her) initially thought she was being pranked - The girls look up to ground breakers like this guy (wish a few more in western culture would do that today!!).
Saiki was recruited by stealth ... she still recounts that she thought the music was brilliant - but thought Miku was off her rocker (and the others) when the maid uniforms were trotted out ... she took a day or so think it over before joining ... Now these girls are inseparable - best of friends off stage as well as on it ... happy in their work - and it shows on stage!! Performers of the highest calibre and continually striving to do better all the time.
This is just the tip of the Band-Maid iceberg. They really are worth a deep dive into their discography.

Speaking of journeys, this is BAND-MAID in their infancy. You need to see how far they've traveled since this, their very first music video. Please, continue on with some music videos like 'Dice', 'Blooming', 'Rinne', and 'Warning'. Then it's time to experience them live. Live is where they really shine with songs like 'Domination', 'Real Existence' or the instrumental 'Onset. All of these songs can be found on their official channel and wont get you a copyright strike. Later, should you journey far enough, you can find some of their older performances like 'Puzzle' (my favorite), 'Moratorium, and 'Don't You Tell Me' (epic bass vs. guitar battle) on other sites (bilibili). To the OP - I think you’ve got an excellent list of tracks there. Band Maid are amazing and their live performances are 100% where it’s at. I cannot get enough and I enjoy the reaction videos, especially the first timers because I see my own initial reaction in them. I pretty much went ...w...t...f...?!... Moooaaaarrrr!!
And then I go and watch their super kawaii insta videos or interviews and my mind gets blown all over again. I love this band.

I know you have have seen it said a number of times now, but this was their first MV and really saved the band as it was their last jab at being successful. It took off and the rest is history. I strong suggest, as others have said, to check out their lives. I would put out Domination (live), Play (live), Onset (Instrumental - Live). For regular MVs, Rinne, Warning and Manners. Warning and Manners from their new CD released in January. Have a great one!

@@Chief322 MV first only because the Live was an online stream and not in front a crowd of fans. They're best in front of a crowd. So in this case the MV first. But musically the Live is just as awesome.
Their first MV and they have come a long way since then. You can already see the brimming talent in this MV. Akane, the drummer, is a bit subdued here, but whatever next video you react to, you will see her unleashed! Check out their live videos! Not only are they shredding their instruments, they are having a blast doing so. It is for a reason why everybody says Band-Maid is the happiest hard rock band out there. They make it look so easy!

This was their very first video. If you pay attention, you can see that band founder Miku Kobato (red flower), who didn't play an instrument when she started the band (she planned on being the lead singer) and only started taking lessons from lead guitarist Kanami Tono after they signed Saiki Atsumi to be lead singer, is using her guitar as a prop.
That was back in 2014. She's a solid rhythm guitarist now.

I’m glad to see your liking them so much. They have come a long way from this song. I think it would be a disservice to jump directly into the latest of Band Maid. I’ll suggest you listen to and watch the official videos for. DICE , THE NON FICTION DAYS , REAL EXISTENCE and also ALONE. After getting to see the growth from there watch some of the early live performances with the songs MORATORIUM AND PLAY. By the time you have heard at least this small list of songs you’ll be on that journey like most of us have lived from the beginning of the lifespan of this iconic band. This band is that special . Take the time and explore all of it. You’ll be there within a month or so upto date and be happy you did. Rock on Brother!!!!

Akane (A-ka-ney), Drummer for Band Maid (BM) wearing the tiny hat in this video (RIP Akane's little hat), was influenced to become a drummer by Nao Kawakita, drummer for the Japanese band Maximum The Hormone (MTH). So, to get the full experience of the genius that is Japanese Music, it is a must to reacting to MTH. Between BM and MTH, they are genres all its own. Nice to see the first time response, great reaction. P.S., I see that the Band Maid Army has arrived, Po!

Thrill is probably still the best "entry-level" song to introduce Band-Maid. The video really captures the dichotomy between their cutsey maid outfits and their aggressive rock sound. That said, the band has continued to evolve and improve. Their live performances are something else. They are one of the few bands to do good old-fashioned rock-n-roll: not prog rock, not metal, not post-punk-core-whatever...just rock. And they do it really, REALLY well.
Best metal/hard rock band to come out in the last 20-25 years. Amazing talent and they're even better live. Check out "Domination", "Daydreaming", "Different" and "About Us".
I started to listen rock/metal when I was 12 years old. Then I have been listening a lot of music for 40 years, and I came back this band.
Like so many other maidiacs my band maid journey began with this song and it got my attention with the catchy riffs and amazing solos. I went to "Dice" MV next and I was hooked for life from the first 15 seconds of that song. Just the absolute best rock band in decades.
Mate! I'm honestly already chomping at the bit to hear more. I definitely want to do it properly and watch their progression and growth in the right kinda timeline. I think that the next video should be DICE for me too, right? If I want to do it properly haha.

Enjoy the journey, these ladies are simply amazing in everything they do.
I followed that same path lol. Then Freedom (live) then an entire playlist. Now I buy the albums.
This is their first video from 7 yars ago and while enjoyable, just the start. I'd suggest their video for "Choose Me" and then their official live videos for "Domination", "Freedom" and the instrumental "Onset". Truly one of My favorite bands right now.

The singers harmonize perfectly and the musicians are excellent.
Once exposed to Band Maid be prepared to disappear down their rabbit hole of 100 compositions. Best band on the planet, without doubt. This video is 6 years old now and all of them are only getting better. Their arrangements, texture and pure excellence of execution is phenomenal !

Former metalhead here (now I listen to everything [atm only band-maid lol]). i have been on the journey listening to ALL of their music for the past year and for me this was the first song i have ever heard of theirs. they have evolved ALOT. Once they got the go ahead from the label to start writing their own music those sick bass lines and and guitar solos only got more epic these ladies are real musicians, composers, and songwriters. MORE BAND-MAID Literally any song and I know its hard to understand but their live videos are better then studio.

Right on Chief 322, you were stunned just like I was! The analytic put the vid up and I clicked on it not having the faintest clue what I was in for! 10 seconds in I thought--oh my God these women are SERIOUS! That heavy, grinding guitar tone, the riffs...just like I like it! Akane the drummer's open high hat and precise stick work and good kick drum got my attention, then when MIsa's potent, supple bass came in I was in shock! Nice little line Kanami plays then wham--back into the crunch chording for the verse, the riff she plays underneath the vocals is dope too as you mentioned! Yes, the mix of English and Japanese is something they do alot of-it's very effective. I was wondering how'd you react when MIsa kicks in that bass solo--it's so unexpected and killer, she's a VERY talented bassist! I love how the song is put together too-Kanami follows her with the shredding solo, it's the old "What in the hell just happened"? vibe. Love the little details like Akane hitting the bell of her cymbal in sections to add to the groove and yeah-Saiki and Miku do a bang up job on the vocals. This caused me to fall down the rabbit hole and really get into them--and most certainly have not been disappointed! These ladies can rock with the best of them. After seeing Band-Maid in concert and wanted to meet the band personally for a photo op with Akane. So if Jimmy Page says so then it's gospel!! 😇

this is the very first song from Band Maid that hooked me in too. As i stated in the Nemophila video. I started 3 years ago with Baby Metal. Now my collection has 105 unique bands and 355 albums. The only rule i had for additions to collection was they had to be all female or minimum female vocals. I would like to suggest a song by the group Bridear - Light in the Dark.

Band-Maid and Nemophila are two of my favorite bands right now (not just Japanese) and you could already see why. Musicality, skill, passion ... and fun, fun, fun !!!! Here you will be offered many fantastic Japanese bands that have revived and revitalized rock and metal music, and you will not go wrong if you pay attention to any of them. I will suggest you a band that plays the music of the future. Songs you've never heard in your life, songs you can't sing or dance to. Songs that you can only listen to in astonishment, not believing in the skill and musicality that you attend. The other band I will suggest to you "Asterism", has also chosen a harder, non-commercial path to express their musicality and genius. It is probably the most talented young Metal instrumental band in the world. They are currently about 19 years old on average, but most MVs on UA-cam were recorded when they were 16 years old on average. Dude, this is their FIRST release... it is over 7 years old... You should see them now! They are dope at recording but their forte is live performance... I have never seen anything like them and I go back to Led Zep days! Check out their instrumental "Onset" and "Without holding back" to see their incredible playing skills. Check out the songs "Dice, Freedom, and "Play" to see Kanami's writing / arranging brilliance as well as the band playing live.
Band Maid is hands down my favorite band! Of all time! Hands down! No questions! Accidentally found them in 2014 and have been hooked from the first listen. There is a band slowly creeping towards the top (but wont surpass), and its another all-female Japanese band called TRiDENT (formerly Girls Rock Band Kakumei). Either iteration of that trio is awesome!Highly suggest Continue or Just Fight (TRiDENT) and Voltage (GRBK)

Historywise: Miku (rhythm guitar/backing vocals) is a singer. She actually came up with the idea for the band, but they decided her voice wasn't quite right for the music they wanted to make, so they brought in Saiki as lead vocals, and Miku learned guitar to help beef up the rhythm section.
So Miku is on the left and Saiki on the right.. right? lol! Thank you, bro! I appreciate this :) Also, Freedom is definitely high up the list of Band-Maid songs. I got you brother!

This tune was given to them by their management, but the treatment was theirs. Then finally they began to be allowed to record their own compositions, which get better and more complex sometimes and just effin' amazing as they go.
Lead singer Saiki is queen of Japanese soul and a great frontwoman in live concert. And BTW if this seemed like a jam, you will really be shocked at how good they are live, and how they will take older material and expand it and jam with it these days. Everyone gets a chance to shine and each is outstanding in her own way.
Kanami is the guitar goddess on our right, riff royalty. She is today the principal composer, and this whole time has been the guitar sensei to Miku, who has grown wonderfully and now has her own signature guitar by Zemaitis on the market.
Miku came up with the whole Band-Maid idea, having worked as a "cafe maid," and is now second vocalist, second guitar, and chief lyricist. She and Kanami create some impressive tunes.
Akane is a world class drummer who chooses to play a smaller kit and make it sound big. She uses a double pedal on her single bass and knows exactly how to support and drive every passage of every tune. In 2016 at a music festival in Tokyo, a fellow named Jimmy Page was highly impressed and asked to get a picture with her. That was shared on social media and is still circulating out there.
Akane's friend from music school, Misa, took up piano early, then guitar, then became one of the most badass bass players alive. This was a tiny sample. The group recognizes that she can play bass solos and bass as a lead instrument and has made more space for that, especially recently.
A lot of us believe this is the best hard rock band on the planet right now. Keep listening and you'll know why. They have over 100 songs available and not a bad one in the bunch.
"Choose Me" was from about the same time, the first of theirs I heard, and it hooked me fast.

The Band-Maid Army. We're a fairly happy bunch and as a rule, just want to be helpful and support the folks who share our favorite band - i.e., you.
You can ask questions and someone will answer. I see that BM 4-Life has dropped off their basic Band-Maid fact sheet which is great. The members were all professionally experienced when they came together in 2013, and no one outside the group put them together and the maid outfits themselves were Miku's idea. Not everyone was thrilled about wearing those, but they had such great musical chemistry they joined anyway. They are hardworking professionals but they can get silly and have fun together too.
Each member has her distinctive quirks and a lot of "lore" about her history and preferences and behavior that comes out in interviews and is seen onstage, and of course, we who adore them find all that fascinating and love to share that stuff.
For example, Miku Kobato means Little Pigeon and she plays on that constantly, saying she is really (a reincarnation of?) an 810 year old pigeon, saying "karuppo!" which is the sound attributed to pigeons in Japan. They have one word for pigeons and doves, as they are basically the same bird, but a "small pigeon" would in fact be a dove. Her recent solo "hippie-poppo" April Fools project was called Cluppo which typically in Japan would be pronounced Karuppo since Japanese doesn't have an L.
So you can hear her in interviews ending nearly every sentence with "po" the short form of karuppo, like a period. She says she can't stop now and it really bugs her family.
However, Miku Kobato is a stage name she took when starting Band-Maid. Her previous work as a pop idol in "Li'l Cumin" and as an actress (small feature films etc.) listed her as Mika Noguchi. Is that her actual birth name? Maybe.
And the lore goes on and on. I love it. Be warned.
